On Friday, April 21st, the Greek community at UGA participated in the annual Greek Day of Service. Over 250 students participated in the event and volunteered at eight different service sites within the Athens community.
The service sites for this year’s event were the Athens Area Humane Society, The Backpack Project of Athens, UGArden, Williams Farm, Nuci’s Space, Rabbit Hole Studios, Athens Community Council on Aging and Healing Path Farm.
To kick off the event Erica Lee, the Assistant Director for Community Engagement at Engagement, Leadership, and Service, came to speak to students before they left for their sites. The 16 site leaders and their groups then headed to their service sites where they spent the afternoon volunteering and assisting in various projects.
At the conclusion of the day, the volunteers returned to the Intermural fields to have a Jimmy John’s lunch and to enter giveaways to celebrate.
The Greek Life Office would like to thank the sponsors of these giveaways and for their help at Greek Day of Service, as well as Alpha Xi Delta, who sponsored the GLO’s service site with the Backpack Project.
