For his lifelong and continuing support of his career industry, his community and family, and the Fraternity, Phi Delta Theta is proud to announce that Brother Michael S. Hyatt, Oklahoma State ’66, was awarded the Legion of Honor Award at the 2023 General Convention.

The Legion of Honor Award was established in 1978 to recognize a member of Phi Delta Theta who has made a major contribution of his time, effort, and energy to serve the Fraternity and improve its stature; has distinguished himself in representing the Fraternity’s principles of Friendship, Sound Learning, and Rectitude; is widely recognized as a leader of fraternity men and identified with the promotion of fraternities; and has widely advanced and enlarged the opportunities for growth and leadership among college men through fraternities.

Mike is an alumnus of the Oklahoma Beta Chapter and was initiated into Phi Delta Theta on April 3, 1964. During his undergraduate years, Mike served as the chapter alumni secretary, and treasurer, and ultimately became OSU’s Interfraternity Council vice president.

Mike has served Phi Delta Theta as a volunteer for many years in several capacities, including as alumni club commissioner, chapter advisory board chairman for the Oklahoma Beta Chapter, and later as Rho North Province President. He has been very involved with the Fort Worth, Texas Alumni Club for decades. Since 2017, he has been a dedicated Phi Delta Theta Foundation Trustee, and in 2019, became chairman of the Campaign Committee. Most recently, Mike was appointed as a board member of the newly founded Iron Phi Foundation.

A financial professional for over forty years, Hyatt joined UBS Financial Services in 1992 as their senior vice president of investments after coming from Texas Commerce Bank Fort Worth, where he served as president. An active member of his community, our recipient is treasurer of the Fort Worth Zoo Association, past president of Leadership Fort Worth, and vice president of finance and director of Trinity Terrace, Inc., a continuing care retirement community in Fort Worth. In addition, he is the past president of Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention, Inc., Casa Mañana Musicals, Inc., and the Texas Boys Choir, and an advisory board member and past president of Fort Worth Sister Cities International. In 2014, our recipient was featured as a Phi on the Road to Greatness for his impact and influence through Sister Cities International.

Hyatt has continuously given to his communities, and his contributions to the Oklahoma State University community are no different. He serves on the Oklahoma State University Foundation board of governors. He has created a scholarship for new business students and a scholarship that is awarded annually to a full-time graduate student in the School of International Studies. In 2016, he was inducted into OSU’s Spears School of Business Hall of Fame, the university’s highest honor.

“Mike’s lifelong dedication to Phi Delta Theta in every capacity possible serving his chapter, the General Fraternity, and Foundation goes nearly unmatched. Although he may be too humble to admit it, his leadership and commitment to his alma mater and community make him more worthy of this award. The Fraternity is very thankful for his lifelong and continued service.” Executive Vice President & CEO Sean Wagner said.

Mike has a passion for students and their Phi Delt experience. Because of this, he has served as a faculty member many times for the McKenzie Family Presidents Leadership Conference and the Kleberg Emerging Leaders Institute. To further invest in students’ lives, he and his wife, Rae, are generous supporters of the Phi Delta Theta Foundation and have funded a Whole Man Scholarship for the Oklahoma Beta Chapter.
