Hi it’s Erica from Blackson period films and today is day four of the writed series for Black History Month today is February the 4th 2017 and on December 4 1906 the black fraternity Alpha Phi Alpha was founded at Cornell University I believe that the divine nine as they called the nine historically
Historically black fraternities and sororities would make a wonderful story there’s there are multiple founders and they have different backgrounds different personal personal triumphs and different personal tragedies and so I feel like having all of their stories together in the series would be a really entertaining and really educational we’d
Learn a lot about how it was to be black how it was to be black and educated and how it was to be black and in love and at this time and so most of the organizations were founded in the early 1900’s the arm I’ll just go down the
Line real quick Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity founded in 1906 Cornell University Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority founded 1908 Howard University Kappa Alpha Phi Phi fraternity founded 1911 Indiana University Omega sci-fi fraternity founded 1911 Howard University Delta Sigma Theta Sorority found in 1913 at Howard University Phi Beta Sigma fraternity founded 1914 at Howard University
Zeta Phi Beta Sorority found at 1920 at Howard University Sigma Gamma Rho sorority found it 1922 at Butler University and iota Phi Theta fraternity founded 1963 at Morgan State University all of these institutions have rich histories and deep legacies and I’m not a member of any of these groups but
Where I live there’s a historically black college HBCU and at game times and at anything that they have where you where you can where the public can go you just feel like this sense of community even though you’re not a part of them you still feel like the community they have amongst themselves
So I think it would be really wonderful to see how they were at the beginning and I think that would be a wonderful miniseries or Regulus series actually the divine nine series covering all of the histories and the founders there’s so many so much information to work with
I just collected a few images and there are so many images of these people online so I’m not going to include a reference page for um today’s video but if you want to find out more about the divine nine and their founders then I suggest just looking online if you were
Writing something about them because of the various pictures that you can find all over the internet dare describe do you know they have images of them I didn’t do a fan casting because there’s so many different founders and I’d be this would be a very long video and I do
Kind of want to keep this series kind of short and here are pictures of the guys they’re very handsome and just like the lady is very well dressed and put together and I think it’d also be interesting to see college life at that time for black Americans early 1900s if
They could be very interesting so a series about the divine nine or a novel about the divine nine you could make it be about the actual group of people or you could make it be historical fiction as you’re one of the incoming members and you just know the founders I think
That I’d be really interesting what do you think comments suggestions leave them down below if you’re not subscribed subscribe and you can see us at our website at black and blacks and period films calm or at our tumblr at blacks in period films tumblr calm thanks for watching
And I’m going to say once again if you think the divine nine is a great story and you want to see some historical fiction about it I think you should go go out and write it
