Looking back on things that I would have done and would not have done in my college career and among them came the subject of sororities specifically be jell-o’s I’ve had a couple people come up to me and asked me Serina are you gonna join like a sorority like why
Didn’t you join a sorority like you seem to be the type to like join sorority and I’m like no I just I didn’t and I never did and I’m gonna tell you why so I would say there maybe that’s to say I must say there about 4 reasons why I
Didn’t join Authority so the first reason is being that in my house sorority and Greek life who has not heard of like I actually for a long time didn’t really know about them and when I did find out about them I still didn’t really know what exactly they were about
So it’s just kind of like coming from a place where it’s just sort of unknown and now that I think about it I don’t really have any cousins I don’t have any aunts or uncles I don’t really have any like family members even that were part
Of any BG oo so again like it’s just kind of like something something that’s unknown my parents are military vets they were in the military like as soon as they got out of high school so they didn’t really have that college life in experience so I feel
Like that’s part of what what it is to now the second reason the second reason for me not joining a sorority I would say the cost from what I have like heard from like other people who have joined I have heard that they have had to get a
Job or multiple jobs just to pay for like dues and all of the things that come with it like paraphernalia all of that stuff and me like I just I just can’t like I don’t the money that I would be spending on joining an organization I could be putting towards
Food books gas and tuition like I’m sorry like I can’t I don’t I don’t prioritize my money you know in spending it on an organization so that’s another thing I’m it’s very expensive and I just was not willing to pay that kind of money to join now the third reason why I
Didn’t join the sorority it was because of the commitment and like how much like the process of getting in and all of that light as far as again I’ve I’ve watched a bunch of YouTube videos of different people from different organizations talk about their experiences so some people are saying
How there was like an interview process some people were saying how like girls the girls I guess like the leaders in the organization would like call them in the wee hours of the morning or like super late at night to do things for them you know everybody has their own
Little stamps on hazy I wouldn’t say that every organization Hayes’s I know that’s not that’s not true but you know they have their ways of like doing things that are kind of annoying to put things in like simpler and I did not want to deal with that I
Just did not I didn’t want to deal with that and yeah it’s a commitment I understand that you know you have to go to your meetings and I know you have to do like special events and you know even when it comes with to the parties I’m
Not that big of a party person either like I don’t want to have to if I want to go to a party I want to go to a party because I want to go to a party not because I have to because that’s what my organization is doing you know what I
Mean and then my next reason for not joining a sorority I feel like if I were to if I had joined the sorority I would not I don’t feel I don’t think that I could I know I say it’s just it just would not be in the path for me it’s as
Far as as what I want to do with my life and with my career if that makes sense I understand that a huge aspects in sorority swery life is to network I understand that but as for me I did not look as I did not look as at a sorority
Being my only way to network and if anything I try to look for other other organizations that are not freak laughs at all there’s just organizations or like other people to network through that organization to network where I don’t have to pay dues and I don’t have
To be like obligated to like do certain things yeah like I said it’s that’s like the best I can put it again not saying that people who aren’t stories are not independent but I feel like I feel like for me I would I would I’m I’m such a
Person where I want to do a lot on my own and be on my own path and a lot of times it’s not the traditional way and if it is the traditional way then it’s still somewhat different yeah that would like that will clash with what I would want to do so yeah
That’s no reason why than join and then I guess the next reason why I didn’t join a sorority was just because I’m losing my train of thought gah bring it back to me yeah so I from what I hear again this is off like from
What I hear from people who are in there it’s a lot of like it’s like a lot of like you know rules and standards that you’re held and you know when you are in a sorority or a fraternity but I’m just speaking as far as a sorority once where
You’re in a sorority as far as like wearing your letters like the different logistics as far as like how to behave which to me actually is a pretty good thing you know if you are in the sorority you know and if you’ve paid a lot of money and you’ve worked hard to
Get in it and you should be held to a certain standard to represent that organization for me from what I hear it’s a looser restricting like and I’ve grown up with enough of that I literally grew up going to a school telling us I mean I went to a private Christian
School so they’re gonna tell us well we can’t wear but it was like to the next level it wasn’t just wear a uniform it was just like you can’t do this you can’t say this you can’t you can’t and from what I hear from like my the people
Who aren’t in sorority like there’s certain things that they can’t it can’t do it just puts me back in that place that I don’t want to revisit so I was at I was like okay oh I believe that to you all but it’s not for me and then I would
Say the last reason why I didn’t join a sorority was because I just knew that I could make good quality friends and join a sisterhood without having to go through all of that and then at the end of the day I just think it’s just something that’s not for me okay maybe
It’s for some other people but maybe it’s just my personality or the type of person that I am like I find ways like I would find ways to like you know get done wanting to get done and when it comes to making friends like I’m pretty
I feel like I’m a pretty friendly person so I love meeting new people and I love making new friends so joining a sorority and paying lots of money and going through all of the steps I don’t know as just as far as forming a sisterhood for me I was just saying that
I just felt like I really didn’t need all of that and that I can just do it on my own but with all of that being said shout out to all of the BG ellos both sororities and fraternities you guys are really fun to watch although I personally was never
Interested in joining a sorority back in March I actually went to Kappa Kappa Alpha Phi Kappa probate and it was really it was really cool it was really cool I will have to say that that was actually the first probate that I ever went to
And my juice my senior year I know I waited until my senior year to go to probate but probably shows because like I didn’t know like of any of the probate or really like I go to PWI and even in the PWI I still didn’t really know much
About off like the activities and things that were going on within the black community so my friend invited me to go to program like yeah I’m gonna go to probate like I’ve never been to one and so I wasn’t say like I had a good time
So so yeah shout out to all of you videos continue to represent yourselves continue to worry colors with pride continue to you know grow your community and you have support from the outside looking in and yeah that’s all I got to say so well you guys I hope you guys
