Good morning robin at this point eight fraternities here at usc have just affiliated severing ties with the university now one mother speaking out saying her daughter was raped at one of those fraternities this morning at the university of southern california a greek life crackdown is now underway as the school
Year begins eight fraternities now cutting ties with the university over strict rules requiring security guards at party entry points and in hallways and stairwells leading to bedrooms a ban on kegs no fall recruiting of freshmen and sexual violence prevention training for fraternity members after sexual assault and drugging allegations rocked
The school last fall it’s very upsetting to me as a student especially as a women i don’t feel like my safety is a priority at the moment greek life temporarily suspended before permanent new rules went into place the fraternities that are now separating from the university say it’s not the
Rules that are the problem but the blanket punishment writing in a statement over the past several years our partnership with usc has significantly deteriorated and became largely unworkable but for those who say their lives have been upended by a night at a frat party they believe the precautions could have made all the

It was just it was not her element according to the lawsuit she and her daughter filed her daughter was underage when she visited usc in january 2020 and went to a party at sigma alpha mu despite being visibly intoxicated and having some difficulty walking she says she was served drinks became separated
From her friends and was taken to an unattended room what did she say that happened she says i don’t know i was unconscious and i woke up to a person i don’t even know assaulting me according to the complaint after a title ix investigation her alleged assailant
Was dismissed from the school he denies any wrongdoing and charges were never filed against him his lawyer says he passed an independent polygraph examination the mother and daughter now filing a civil suit against him and the fraternity alleging that more could have been done to prevent her alleged rape
Two years later they say they’re still dealing with the emotional trauma this is really probably certainly top five of every parent’s worst nightmare that you send your child off to school and something like this happens a civil trial is set for next summer sigma alpha mu says they have advised
Their local chapter to fully cooperate with the investigation they also say the local chapter has been in good standing with usc since that time and since disaffiliating the alleged victim wanted to share a statement saying in part check in on your friends keep your friends safe and never leave anyone
