Hi everyone and my name is Laura Donato and I’m serving as the assistant director so for today’s presentation we’re gonna go over basically the national talent community on in the multicultural community that we have here at Jerusalem but on the Statesboro and on from campus so that’s just giving
You perspective on what the information is gonna be specifically yeah and we also will be providing you some context of providing you some updates based on the coverage 19 and some things that we decisions we made when it comes to that so with that so we’re gonna get started
So basically a quick overview there our community we have over 40 tuned for Chinese in tour we have 42 fraternities and sororities on both campuses so that really makes the entirety of the fraternity so we’re in community here at Georgia Southern so basically what that means is that you will only find
Fraternities and sororities on the Statesboro and on from campus not behind on campus so again those are the only groups that you or campuses where we have some semblance of Greek life currently and we believe that joining a fraternity or sorority is one of the best experiences that you can have in
Your undergrad experience because of the opportunities that come out of being in for eternity or sorority there’s so many leadership opportunities giving back to our community I’m holding ourselves to a higher standard especially when it comes to academics and so we truly believe that when fraternity is done right that
Is the that it is the best experience that you can have throughout your time at Georgia Southern so diving a little bit more into the both communities so basically Afghans from campus we have ten chapters six of those are sorties for those of our fraternities when it
Comes to counsel so I think I counsel zazz these are the groups that oversee these chapters or in in our sense the way we phrase it is that there are the Governing Council of these specific chapters so we have the college panic the Interfraternity Council and then we also have the multicultural Greek
Council so just to kind of backtrack here a little specifically for the island on campus our multicultural Greek Council does include chapt currently includes chapters of the national pelling councils I mean that something that we’re working through to kind of change and shift a little bit on so this is
Something that again was we came to us from from a that makes sense after consolidation so those are some things that we know need to be changing Greek to moving forward so that’s something that we also wanted to kind of note on that front and you’ll see a little bit
More once we get into a little bit deeper into those conversations when it comes to the Statesboro campus we have 13 key chapters 12 of those are stories 24 charities and again when it comes to the council’s or the governing bodies of Orsini’s chapters we have the Interfraternity Council of the National
Pan-hellenic and Penn Atlantic Council and the panelling Association so looking at our Armstrong campus and as Francis said some of our National pan-hellenic or impatiens fall into our multicultural Greek Council so we have four active organizations that make up our multicultural Greek Council and and the
Next slide will talk more about that so for our chapters that are part of our Armstrong campus we have Alpha Kappa Alpha Delta Sigma Theta lambda theta phi fraternity and then Zeta Phi Beta and so the best place for you to meet and start to interact with our mgc organizations
Will be once you get to campus there’s opportunities and so mgcp will be hosting a meet in Greek on September 3rd so that’ll be one of the ways that you can meet them we’re doing that virtually and so we’ll have more information to come with the zoom link and how you’ll
Be able to interact with our chapters and so we’re working on that and then the other opportunity that you’ll have to meet them will be during our why go Greek presentation and so this will be for anybody that wants to join a fraternity or sorority and on the
Armstrong campus and that’ll be August 26 and again we’ll have more information to come out with and so our chapters that followed our mgc councils participate in intake so that process is a little bit more discrete you’re not going to know exactly when an organization is having
Members come in right away they have to take their time to figure out if they’re ready to have a new new line come through or new members coming through I mean so again there’s just ways that we help you interact with those chapters and so that way you can figure out which
Chapters the best fit for you so that way you can get into that intake process and I think here in states where we have the national community councils so again the NPC so again as we talked about earlier this organization really oversees the functions of these chapters
And what they can from a community perspective so within that structure we have eight hundred nine divan chapters here on campus so you can see we have alpha kappa alpha alpha phi alpha go to the sigma theta identify theta Omega sine Phi Phi Beta Sigma Sigma Gamma Rho
In Zeta Phi Beta so in order for any student that is interesting joining one of these organizations NPHC has an MP su 101 which is a requirement for you to attend if you’re interested in joining so basically we ask you to attend the NPC 101 and that’s really good for
Entire year so basically in that presentation you get to hear from the chapters one of the chapters requirements specifically if and when they’re doing intake when exactly happening as far as informational meetings that you can attend so that will basically happen supremum or ninth but with that said and this kind of goes
Into the next slide i believe i’m just gonna pick dump a little bit ahead is that we are doing this virtually on there just because of the things that are currently on the ground it doesn’t allow us to basically pull off this event safely in person so again this is
Going to be done virtually so we’re currently working with our MPSC council to get everything ready for that September night presentation so you just know that when it comes to intakes similar to what Laura went over the chapters will base we have information pieces out there for
You to look at and know when these events are going to be happening one of the things have we done here in Statesboro is that again we will be posting fliers on the office glass if that makes sense so that way you already know who is some intake when somebody’s
Gonna have an informational meeting to talk to learn more about the process for joining that specific chapter so in the the pieces I said over like I said everything that we are doing moving forward will be from a virtual standpoint as of now we’re working with our chapters and no matter what counsel
Around on to make sure we have a better understanding actually how how they’re going to be conducting intake and if they gonna be condemned to conducting intake how are they can maintain a safe environment for the new members coming in but also for the type of perspective
So those are things that we already have started asking questions to our choppers to kind of have a better understanding how the actual intake process is going to be performed from an individual chapter perspective so we can have a better idea for what information we need
To provide them when it comes to safety measures are they need to take into consideration as they consider joining take this semester and so looking at our membership requirements for anybody that wants to join an organization if you are an incoming freshman and I’ll say typically our organizations that fall
Within mgc mph so you do not accept first semester freshmen for college they want you to establish a college GPA kind of get your feet on the ground get a good feel for what campus is like and then they will be open for membership for you again that’s not all of our
Organizations but most do that um so if you’re coming in as a freshman from straight out of high school you need to have a 2.75 GPA and this is based off of admissions so it may not necessarily be what your high school transcript says is based off of what admissions accepts
Into the university if you are a college student and have at least 12 credits or more you need to have a 2.5 GPA as a minimum for membership there’s no it’s no exceptions to this again as I said earlier we hold our students to a higher standard for
Academics and that’s part of why we set these GPA requirements and as a new member you will be required to complete a hazing prevention module so you’ll get information on when that is due based off of the council’s and and when you decide that membership is ready for you
And if you’re a dual enrolled student you are not eligible for an organ or not eligible for membership right now got to be a full-time student for that and also we have a policy in place that is really meant to keep our students safe you are only eligible to join an
Organization that is at your home or primary campus so if you are attending Statesboro as your home or primary campus you are only going to be eligible to join our established organizations at Statesboro and vice versa for Armstrong and part of that is just we want to make
Sure that our students are saying and when it comes to you to the membership requirements that each chapter may require and the highway that’s in-between Statesboro and Armstrong is notorious for accidents and so that’s really part of the reason why we have this policy in place and then that’s I’m
Pretty sure that cover to hold that but yeah so that’s just some of our requirements again each chapter and they have some different eligibility pieces but for the most part that’s what they’re going with and then looking at our first semester dues so this is a breakdown based off of the chapters
Require maintenance and for for first semester dues and typically your first semester is going to be your most expensive semester this goes into some new member fees there might be a test that you have to take and that recovers that you’re paying typically headquarters for your membership things
Like that there’s some counsel fees and they’re those are usually small and comparison into what the chapter is is charging for and then it also get ties into the operating cost of the chapter and so if they’re doing events or if they’re doing anything that may require money so
Things like that so this is what your first semester kind of range can look like and so if you’re at Statesboro the range for our chapters is from 900 to 2200 dollars a semester and then at Armstrong our range is from 425 to 1500 dollars a semester again that’s just our
Range from our chapters and so it may be a little bit more it may be a little bit less but again your first semester is typically your most expensive and our chapters typically have payment plans so that’s something that if you’re looking for membership within a specific organization that’s something that you
Can ask them you know how do you expect these to be paid all upfront and is this a one-time payment per year is their semester Li cost things like that but this is again what we see I’m coming from our chapters within that first semester of membership yeah so that kind
Of out covers everything that we wanted to go over with you um we just wanted to also give some time for for you to be aware ask questions about anything when it comes as it really is doing and anything about the community a couple things in the chat function I’m gonna go
Ahead and send you our office website but also a Facebook group on the specific these are in force or students that again you can go in there and ask any specific questions specific to anything or general questions as well so just know that if you go through our
Website there’s a on the menu bar there is a tab titled soar information where you will also get a lot of information from a soar perspective that that can definitely help you out but with that said again feel free to post your questions on the chat function on zoom’
Or you can just make sure you meet yourself in ask the question so a couple things that we come you’ll think about questions you want to ask or a question that we’ve seen or heard throughout the years here so couple things is that people typically ask us who wins the right
To join for us it’s really up to the students inside that I think within PSC and you see it’s a little bit of different like Laura said because typically our NBC and NBC and PSC chapters are looking for a well-established student that has been involved on campus and community service
And leadership different leadership opportunities on campus before they even consider joining one of these organizations so that’s really it’s – a typical of our community when it comes to these two groups but also like Laura said there are some exceptions or some chapters that we know do you take first
Semester freshman I mean again that’s really up to them the other question we typically get asked when talking about our NPHC MVC groups is that when are they actually doing intake that’s really we don’t know until they tell us right so there’s no formula or there’s no
Specific things at the unit a the reality is these chapters are the ones that decide to see or do membership intake we just support them when they decide to make that option for available to the the campus of that make sense so we help them navigate that process so
Once they inform us that they’re gonna be doing intake that’s where we in collaboration with councils were to make sure that the the information is being put out there in order for the masses to be able to see it and in hopefully attend it that makes sense so so that’s
The other piece that again will typically get asked and just make sure that you’re following their social media accounts I think they put out a lot of information when it comes to those pieces on their social media accounts again all the other thing that would give typically asked is how can I learn
More about this organization again sorry lobby is a game there’s a lot of information out there we definitely encourage you to look at their national website so there’s a lot of content is already provided there so that way when your gets that point where you’re really ready to go inciting word which chapter
You’re interested in aim you have a better understanding of what the requirements are and what is expected of you so I think some chapter from a national perspective some of that organizations are doing a good job having a lot of our information on the website so yeah if there
Are no questions we can call it a day but it will stay on for a little bit more to see if there’s any questions but again if you have any questions you can either use the chat function or you can go ahead and on your self and ask the
Question so hearing none and seeing that like I said we appreciate you taking the time out of your day to join our soora live session if there’s any questions concerns you can always reach out through the word myself you know laura is based on the Yongsan campus are based
In Statesboro campus so we can both help you in that perspective on either campus so feel free to reach out like I said if there’s nothing else again we appreciate you attending and again if there’s any question concerns feel free to reach out enjoy whatever Street yeah hi everyone
