Don’t Join A Sorority!

Hey guys Welcome to The Vibes and Pearls podcast on today’s episode Diana and I are going to talk about reasons why you should not join a sorority stay tuned come on yeah I see you Diana okay Gia DST D9 let’s go let’s go let’s go it’s violets and Pearls with the Delta girls

Wearing crimson and cream call them chocolate Supremes and if you’re shopping for things like popular things they got all of the things from clothes to jewelry it’s a dream to talk about things to do nine way it feels good to be Greek and change lives man it feels

Good to uplift to give back and speak back Dallas and Pearls is where it’s at come on yeah VMP everybody say hey guys so we’re just gonna jump right into it so um our first podcast episode we kicked it off with reasons why we joined our sorority Delta Sigma Theta sorority

Incorporated but today we want to talk about reasons why you should not join a sorority Okay so have do you have any thoughts about that I do I have some thoughts about it and I feel like we can probably feed off of each other on that but um

Honestly one of the top reasons I think you should not join a sorority is just because you like the colors like you red and white are your favorite colors you know pink and green are your favorite you know blue and gold don’t you want to sorority because you like the colors it

Has nothing to do with oh what we what we what we do and what we have to offer you know do you have I think also do not join a sorority or a fraternity for that matter if you’re not ready to put in some work yeah okay this

Is not one of those organizations where you just wear lettuce yeah that’s not the intent for it the intent is to better the community and serve um the mission and the principles to the to the particular organization that you did not decide to join and if you’re not

Ready and willing to put in the work and hit the ground running don’t join don’t be a t-shirt work wearer don’t join in order just to say I’m a part of a Sisterhood now dad may be a reason for a lot of people they want to be a part of something but it

Kind of needs to go a little deeper than that to me um you need to be in alignment with the purpose of the organization is like what are they doing and why are they doing it and is it a good reflection of who you are right um you know join a sorority

Also because you feel like you look like the people in the sorority you know some of them have this running theme of um all of us are a certain skin color where our hair certain well you know just dress a certain way don’t join a sorority if you think you’re going to

Get into it for those things because it won’t be eventually those things will just kind of die out and go away and then you’re in it you know for nothing I also don’t think that you should join um a sorority if you are looking to find find yourself right yeah yeah

Um and I say that because so many people can get lost into an organization and they’re the organization becomes all all of all what they know right and it can turn into something quite negative right I think you have to know who you are um what you bring to the table and what

Your contribution is to that organization and how that organization also can enhance you but not necessarily identify you right I agree um I have another one don’t join a sorority to make friends you know that’s not a reason to join us so we don’t join us already just because

You you feel like you need more friends um but friends are a benefit of sorority so it’s um it’s a great place to network and have people you know that you do future business with but that necessarily means y’all gonna be free like you may not find your best friend

Someone to hang out with you know a lot of people have their own lives and their own things and they come together you know for this um cause that we are having coming but don’t join the sorority to make friends that’s a good one I would also say um

Don’t join a sorority just because you think it’s cool like do your research right do your research and not just what you see you know in terms of like step shows um don’t take the surface as like your reasoning do your research and truly get to know what each organization stands

For what they actually do um as Diana said do you align with that mission of that organization and are you ready to to put in the work yeah because the surface that that’s the fun part but there’s actual work you know this this is serious yeah for sure

Um don’t join the sorority so that you can throw up the symbol or so that you can make the call don’t do that don’t do that and don’t don’t do that those things if you’re not that part oh my goodness of the organization it’s been plenty of people

That just I’ve seen you know and it’s so disrespectful because we you know it’s a privilege for us to do it and you certainly have not reached that point in being able to have the privilege of of doing the symbols and doing the cause if you’re not a part of the organization

Don’t do that yeah in addition to it being a privilege it’s also earned okay absolutely you know so um it is very disrespectful so be mindful of that now um to express your interests that’s okay discreetly right um but not to the point where you are um are disrespecting a particular

Organization because then it could actually backfire right it can and I’ve seen it backfire meaning don’t join the sorority because you want to get closer to the brother fraternity don’t join us sorority thinking you’re gonna marry a q if you’re a doctor or if you’re if you’re AKA trying to be AKA

Trying to marry Alpha [Laughter] so they always be with it the apples and stuff and I want me an alpha man and I know I can meet one if I become a part of their sister sorority so don’t do that yeah and I would also say going

Back to what I said in terms of knowing who you are insecurity like do not join an assistant hood or an organization looking for it to give you security because if you lack insecurity going in nine times out of ten you’re gonna lack security throughout the process and afterwards

Yeah and I think I want to reiterate one more that you kind of said before don’t join a sorority if you have no intentions of being fully in it you know it’s we all know at certain points life takes a hole but um these sororities are a lifetime commitment and so when you

Make that oath and um people certainly depend on you to be in it for the continuous amount of time so don’t join it in order it should just be in it for like a year or two and then distance yourself join it and be in it for the Long Haul

Yeah I agree and don’t don’t join it just to join like have have a reasoning of why you are joining an organization don’t do it because oh that’s the that’s the organization that’s popular on campus right right now because that changes yeah um also don’t join it because you just

Think it’s cool or you know some of your friends are part of an organism so you don’t want to feel excluded don’t do that yeah don’t do that oh and one more came to me do not join a sorority because your friend is joining the sorority because y’all want to do it

Together yeah don’t do that don’t do it because your friends is doing it because you know this is not good looking it’s not it’s not yeah so we don’t know if you’re a part of an organization or not but if you are looking to join yeah be mindful of the

Reasons why you are joining and if you resonate with anything that we’ve said it then maybe it’s not your time and maybe it’s just not for you yeah yeah who you want to be it may not even be a part of a D9 maybe something totally different so you know

Um good luck on that search if that’s something you’re interested in but these are our reasons not to join a sorority have a good one
