So excited that you’re joining us and I’m very very honored and excited to have some very special women talk today as we are a part of the be the beat campaign we have here uh talking in a very special time we are not only American Heart month but this is also
Black History Month we have some very wonderful black women who are here we’re going to talk about the the necessity for us to learn CPR cardio pulmonary resuscitation and also perhaps get a small demonstration and talk to some of the greatest leaders of our time right now we are talking to three presidents
Of the divine nine sorority so I I hope that you will enjoy our conversation and will be with us throughout this and also join our challenge today we are going to have as our guest Dr Catherine Brown also our 2023 go red real woman Leslie
Jordan went to you hear her story and of course as I mentioned divine nine sorority presidents to talk about CPR and why it should matter to Black Americans and why it’s so important for black women let me just give you this one thing that I learned while I’ve been
Working with the American Heart Association women who suffer from Cardiac Arrest outside of a hospital are less likely to receive life-saving CPR from bystanders and it’s especially true black women and Latina women so we are challenging everyone to be the one in your family be the one in your business to learn CPR
Right now and change this statistic take the American Heart Association be the beat challenge so without further Ado let us meet in this wonderful young woman her name is Leslie Jordan she has an incredible story and I’d like her to share that with us today Leslie hello
With your beautiful smile how are you where you’re right um great thank you so much for having me such an honor to be here I am just so ecstatic to just spread the awareness for cardiovascular disease and during the heart month of all months and my
Story begins shortly um I was 33 years old and I was diagnosed with preeclampsia my pregnancy was fine yes during the pregnancy third trimester is genuine preeclampsia is diagnosed and during that third trimester is when I actually got the diagnosis the pregnancy in itself was fine until that actual
Point the actual delivery was fine I didn’t have any issues with the Livery but I noticed that I didn’t feel well after I delivered so hold on hold on I and I and I’m loving that you’re telling the story but you also have a video that you
Have shared with people that I would like to share with our viewers today and our listeners if you would oh absolutely I would love that okay great When I had my first major stroke I was the age of 33 years old foreign trimester I was diagnosed with preeclampsia and I will admit when that happened I was devastated It was about 48 hours after I just delivered and I had this Thunderclap headache and I felt like I could not hold my head up the next thing I know when it was ran into the room my speech was slurring and I felt this sensation
All over my body like my body was on fire and at that moment I yelled as loud as I could I am having a stroke and I blacked out when I woke up several weeks later I was in ICU I tried to get out of the bed I was paralyzed
Recovery is a journey I think if it wasn’t for my son sometimes I might have given up representation matters I’m a black woman in America we have such a high proportion of us going through strokes and cardiovascular disease I want someone to look at me and say hey you
Know what it’s a possibility that I too can have a stroke so if you know what the signs and symptoms are you can react and you can take care of yourself and give yourself the best chance of survival life is again we’re all not promised but if you’re still here it’s a beautiful
Thing and you’re going to be okay Wow Leslie Leslie Leslie that is an incredible story I want to thank you for sharing it um you you said you need to know the symptoms and and you have to be the you have to be your biggest and best advocate for knowing something was happening
Um and you have shared that with other people what’s the what’s the one thing you want to leave with people who are watching and listening today I want to leave with anyone that’s watching and fortunate enough to even be present to hear my story to know that
You have to give yourself permission to take care of your health nobody is going to seek out nobody’s going to really force feed you the information you have to know your body you know your body better than anyone else you know if you feel good you know if a smile sometimes
We smile and we don’t feel well or sometimes we’re in pain it’s not always a typical crying and sadness that genuinely shows our pain so you have to speak up if you don’t have anyone to speak up on your behalf try to reach out there’s a lot of organizations like the
American Heart Association as well as the Go Red For Women as well and which is why I’m so proud to be a part of this real woman movement because these are real stories I’m a real person I am a stroke survivor and if I did not give
Myself permission to take care of myself and learn about my health and advocate for myself I don’t know if I would be here today so please please take care of yourself you are so wonderful we are so glad you’re here to tell your story to share it and to make such a big
Difference for other women and men who are watching you today God bless you Leslie Jordan thank you so much for joining us thank you for being a go red real woman and keep up the great work and sharing your story thank you so much I really appreciate it I we appreciate
You thanks so much for joining us um that is an incredible young woman telling her story Leslie Jordan and uh we encourage you to take Leslie’s advice and and understand what your body is saying to you as well as to be your best Advocate and if and partnership have a
Partner someone who can also speak for you on your behalf if you are unable to do so thanks again Leslie Jordan let us now welcome in Dr Catherine Brown Dr Brown has an incredible story she is uh she has a a resume that goes from here you
Know as big as our hearts you know if we stack them up from end to end along the country um but Dr Brown is a woman who knows what it comes when it comes to talking about cardiac initiatives she’s a woman who knows her business and there is she
Will go around the world in ever in order to share her story she’s willing to go and help save lives and teaching CPR welcome to uh to the show today Dr Catherine Brown we appreciate you joining us thank you so much Sybil for the opportunity to be here with you
Today and with this distinguished panel to discuss an important topic well I am so glad you’re here and I can’t wait for you to to be involved in the conversation with the uh presidents of the divine nine sororities but I do want to have you give people a little bit of
Background what possessed you what was the the moment that that pushed you into your involvement with the American Heart Association how did that come about I have actually been a volunteer with the American Heart Association since I was 16 years old I know I took a day
Over so that was like a couple of years ago last month how did that come about so here it is 33 years later I’m still with them um because my mother was a trauma nurse on the south side of Chicago and she was born heart association Volunteer
And fast forward I was a senior educator at an inner city Hospital on the south side of Chicago and the CPR numbers were so alarming that I actually resigned and opened up the first freestanding CPR company on the south side it was on 87th Street uh Dr Catherine and Associates
CPR courses I know where that was okay okay all right yeah yeah yeah so here’s the thing they say build it and they will come but I had placed my CPR company intentionally in a zip code where people were least likely to receive CPR lives were on the line and
They didn’t come so failure wasn’t an option for me I knew that they needed to know CPR so I took CPR to them I got my four children now here’s the funny part my children now are 29 22 21 and 14 but back then the youngest was a baby on my
Hip and I literally began door knocking campaigns I would knock on people’s doors and say hey is Dr Catherine if someone in this house went into cardiac arrest would you know what to do at first they were like is she crazy but after a while when I kept coming back
They began to listen and they let me teach them and then I started holding signs on the corners that said honk if you know CPR if you don’t pull over and I will teach you and I started teaching people on the corners the sidewalks I’ve been in biker bars churches traveling
Internationally South Africa South America the list goes on so much so that I have literally trained over 300 000 people for free and CPR and in essence here’s what it was Sybil teaching CPR enabled me to empower people to serve their families and their communities they were armed with
Knowledge and skill to help save a life and so in fact since that time I’ve taught for National leadership conferences sororities you gave a TED Talk I got a Ted Talk on CPR I’m known as the CPR lady the founder of learning CPR America as you know I’m a national
CPR spokesperson but the be the beat for me and why I am involved is because I’m committed to locking arms with you Sybil with everyone watching from sororities fraternities corporations churches schools housing projects anyone with a pulse that will listen I want to share the American Heart Association resources
And education with them because the AHA has given me an opportunity to serve I serve nationally on the diversity leadership committee but they are true their mission their work and so for me I remain a loyal servant for all of my years that I have on this Earth I’m
Committed to saving lives because people sometimes don’t know that they need to be advocated for so I love teaching the most vulnerable populations because your ZIP code should not determine how you live or die and if you receive CPR so if you are watching and you can teach a
Child how to ride a bike I can teach them how to learn CPR no matter how the challenge oh that’s my challenge I want to serve because Family Matters and when lives are lost because we don’t know how to initiate CPR there is cause for concern so for me it’s my calling I’m
Committed I’m going to commit to continuing this conversation with you our sister today tomorrow and as often as is needed until more lives are save because it is time to sound the alarm for CPR and Dr Catherine y Brown will be knocking on somebody well I you know what we’re going to save
You from knocking on doors today because I understand you can show us how it’s done absolutely and here’s the thing Sybil at first you may be afraid even petrified what can you do to help save a life but because Dr Catherine y Brown is here with Sybil Wilkes you’re going to learn
The two steps of hands-only CPR step one if you see a teenager or an adult suddenly collapse you want to check and see if they’re okay hey are you okay they’re not breathing or responding so I have to initiate step number one call 9-1-1 step number two I’m gonna push
Hard and fast in the center of the chest two inches deep the heel of my hand is going to go right in the center of the chest and normally I’d be on the floor but my friend Saul is up here but this position here okay and it’s push push
Push push push now that might sound like giving childbirth if they’re not watching me but I’m really talking about CPR civil so let’s do it again hey are you okay they’re not breathing or responding hey you call 9-1-1 get an AED all right help is on the way and I’m
Gonna get pushing all right here we go push push push push I’m pushing hard and fast in the center of the chest two inches deep and I am not going to stop pushing until help arrives or they become responsive why because lives matter and so there you have it you’ve
Just learned hands-only CPR with Dr Catherine y Brown and silver Wills there you have it several two steps they were like bravo bravo doctor that is that is amazing and I know all the folks in 606 19 appreciate that and as well as 606 43. hello that’s right that’s right
Um but I I want to thank you for not only you know demonstrating that but as as my friend J Anthony Brown says he you know wants to he hadn’t been near some women’s breasts in a long time so um but that’s not why we’re doing this
Jay and gentlemen that’s not why we’re doing this we are here to save lives not not as you said through childbirth to give life but to Save a Life and um we are the least likely to get help from a bystander and also one thing I do
Want you to point out if you’re alone yeah and you have your phone um you get someone on 9-1-1 yes there and symbol if I can add you brought up a powerful coin but we know that women are least likely to receive CPR because of this you know uncomfortability and insecurity but
Guess what we need you hey yes they’re breasts all right hey you need to help save a life have a feel if that’s necessary but but let’s get to the business right into the business and it’s like the heel of the hand has to go on the center of the
Chest two inches deep and so that’s why I take my friend Saul Mr Save a Life with me to show people it’s right here in the center of the chest you need to save a life life is why and it’s the more we can get this education and
Message and even thanks to the work that you’re doing civil we can actually help save lives so absolutely we’ve got to get the message out in our community and if not us food and if not now when it’s time to sound the alarm for CPR we got
To be the beat that’s right we have to be the beat and we are here to save lives so I’m excited and so I just need to take a breath and uh with Dr Catherine Brown we are going to introduce our presidents of the divine nine sororities thank you so much Dr
Brown Dr Brown is going to stick with us and let us now welcome in the presidents of the divine nine sororities and uh and and start our discussion about how we can all as black women get involved in this be the beat campaign and challenge so may I first introduce to you the
President of the divine nine sororities Dr I’m sorry Dr Stacy Grant the international president of Zeta Phi Beta hello doctor oh look at you with your nice little background okay document and doctor I bring you greetings from my sister of the microphone uh Sheree Nicole she absolutely loves you she is
Not only a member but she is a big fan of the Dr Stacy Grant Family well thank you Sybil you know our stock goes up when we’re here with you so thank you for having us as a part of our National Council of presidents our divine nine sororities who are representing and
Getting the beat Dr Brown had me dancing and laughing uh hard and fast right in the center of the chest we’re ready to go and excited to be here and Sharita Cole is absolutely one of zeta’s finest so please give her my love when you’re with her again I absolutely will we’ll
Talk in the morning and let us also welcome the national president and CEO of Delta Sigma Theta sorority Incorporated Elise cook homes hello president Holmes how are you how are you it’s actually Elsie but uh it’s great to see you cymbal and uh thank you so much for
Um having hosting us for this very very important conversation I too was listening to Dr around and I said we are ready we are ready to make sure that we can make a difference in this area and I’m always delighted not only to be with you simple but certainly to be with my
Sister presidents of the other Divine organizations that is so great and I feel like an honorary Delta because all my girlfriends um you know are preaching the the Delta way of life and the Delta Spirit so thank you so much for joining us from down the road and speaking of down the
Road let us head to Texas and talk to the international president of Sigma gamma rho Rashida Liberty hello Madam president how are you doing well doing well thank you for the opportunity um to be with my sisters my sister presidents we work hard together in the
Field we just were with each other days ago so um it’s great to have this opportunity for this important discussion well it is important and I think you have you know a lot of us have just gotten caught up in the spirit of Dr Brown and and knowing the importance of learning
Hands-On CPR hands-only CPR and the cardiopulmonary resuscitation we don’t think in terms of the likelihood of it happening but it can happen just like that we saw it on a football field with a young man seemingly very healthy and Demar Hamlin of the Buffalo Bills we saw what CPR did
It saved his life not once but twice and so Dr Brown um can you talk about the necessity and and how anyone can learn this particular effort in order to save lives absolutely and the reality is that anyone can learn CPR and everyone should because the life that you save may
Actually be a loved one about one out of 10 people who suffer Cardiac Arrest out of the hospital survive one that number is far too low and what we’re dealing with with is the reality is that researchers saying every 45 to 90 seconds someone in the United States
Will suffer a sudden cardiac arrest and they will not get the help that they need but why is this important because with learning hands-only CPR we can double and triple the survival rates when we think about survival we need to think about family time mothers having times time with their families
Grandparents having time with their grandchildren and and barbecues and birthdays we lose all of that because without CPR it’s simple math civil death plus death equals Death plus CPR gives people a chance at survival and we must arm ourselves and equip ourselves with a message of Hope with two simple steps be
In the beat pushing hard and fast in the center of the chest and that’s the reality and I can’t think of three greater women to join this Challenge and to spread the word in their sisterhoods about this because we all know that we are the background uh the backbone of
Our families of our organizations of our churches and you name it and and so now talking about this and and leading the discussion amongst your sisters ladies could you all talk about you know and I’m sure you all can give us examples of how we talk about the disparities within
Our neighborhoods and and within our communities in terms of narrowing the Gap narrowing the health Gap in our communities and and this certainly is a great example I’m sure uh Dr Grant you have talked about this and and now that you’ve heard this how’s that pitch gonna go with your
Sisterhood do you think it’s going to fit right in with our current International theme which is the year of the international woman serving and advocating for health Justice at home and abroad so when we talk about the health of and wellness of Hearts we we share our hearts through service but in
Order to do that we have to be healthy and being the beat means that we’re taking these platforms we’re utilizing all of the service that we do as our Collective organizations to have these conversations to talk about the importance of knowing CPR to have the opportunities to share workshops in the
Communities one of our programmatic thrusts is around zeta’s helping other people Excel Z hope and through our Z hope programs we actually have on hand training with experts like Dr Brown who can show you how to do CPR what are the signs what are some of the uh social
Determinants that create the stress that causes the challenges that we see with over 50 000 black women having Strokes annually knowing that this is a conversation that we can take Beyond just here and take it to the action of being able to educate and utilize the
Two quick steps on how to save a life we never know when it’s going to happen until it hits home and this hit home for me rather last 72 hours A girlfriend of mine had a stroke the signs were there and thank God there was someone around
Who could act quickly and be able to call for help make that 9-1-1 call and start applying those two Beats very quickly to make it happen so as a sorority we’re committed on our health Justice focus and part of that is having the conversation creating The Messengers
The Credible Messengers that allow us to know it’s not something to shy away from but to lean into so that we can be healthy enough to serve collectively as our organizations do across the globe and president Elsie um we we talk about here on on the Civil Wilkes show as well
As in our partnership with the American Heart Association how heart disease and stroke is the number one killer of women and stroke disappoint disproportionately affects the black community um this is this is important information and I’m sure you’re also having that discussion with the members of your sorority
Absolutely civil so the members of Delta Sigma Theta have is one of our five-point programmatic thrust physical and mental health so we certainly focus on how to um enhance and improve the Health and Welfare of our members but certainly um to the communities that we serve as well
One of the focus areas for this uh Administration for my Administration is around empowering our communities and we certainly want to make sure that we’re not only arming our members but again our communities which with this much needed information we have long had a partnership with the American Heart
Association there one of our charitable partners so we partnered to get the message out and to make sure that our members understand the disparities the challenges we have focuses on Mental Health this year so the mental health Focus uh in terms of how that can impact heart disease as well stress and mental
Health challenges can affect heart disease but we feel that it is extremely important to be the beat so expanding the conversations we’re already having about heart disease how it disproportionately affects women and how each one of us knows someone with heart disease it runs with my family I know
Many members when the envirosaurus have this I have similar situations and we know directly of members who have been saved by CPR we also know of those that were part of that unfortunate 90 who were not able to be saved at after going into cardiac arrest so I certainly want
Everyone my sisters of Delta Sigma Theta and everyone else under the sound of my voice to make sure that we take this seriously that we each learn the two steps of CPR and that we make sure that we share it with our family our friends and our communities because we can make
A difference in saving lives in our communities and I am not gonna leave out our president Liberty and talking about uh the women of your organization and the necessity of having these conversations with the women that you work with with the women that you serve in your
Sorority and how important it is to have that conversation not only with the women but in the met with the men in your life as well yeah I I think the so in short the women of Sigma gamma rho sorority Incorporated of course we’re headed towards greater as we always say
Um in our foundation and Our Roots but in Greater we understand that we have to apply our oxygen Mass before we um take it to others and so we have noticed that when I came into office in this particular Administration we were hit very hard with covet and one of the
Things that we knew is that with covid you are more likely to not survive or to become more ill if you do have some underlying issues well a lot of those underlying issues were surrounding blood pressure heart health cholesterol the things that really lack of exercise and
So we knew that we had to approach it a different way not only did it survive the covid pandemic but also to say Okay so let’s prepare ourselves as these things happen again and not only taking care of the health piece or to help Equity peace because it always starts
With how our members in our community these are being served if you don’t have a hospital if you don’t have services near you you’re more likely to die outside of that situation and so we had to figure out not only how to take care of the health the health of ourselves
But also think more strategically about the legislative action and creating equity in our communities and the way I look at Fitness in our organization we look at it as really for major thrusts with our Women’s Wellness Year and that is a Financial Health piece right because those create unnecessary stress
Mental health or Neural Health I mean take care of yourself because once again those create stress and there’s social health making sure you’re protected against abusive situations and then of course our overall health Fitness um is the key so those things are top priority for this Administration and
Have always been in our Sisterhood How likely are you all to agree with the with the statement that if mama ain’t happy or if mama ain’t healthy ain’t nobody healthy or happy in this house Dr Brown you have demonstrated how you’ve encouraged your children and and as you were by your mom
Um taking this out but the importance of women leading the way in being the beat absolutely it’s the foundation of what we do so when I started going into churches you know who I would get first before I got sometimes the pastor if the pastor was the male I would get the
Mother of the church I would get those powerful voices that would say wait we gonna take a pause and we’re going to listen to what she has to say when I would go to you know people would be in the park and I would walk up and they’re
Having a family reunion uh and the ribs on the grill and I’m like throwing a mannequin like what’s up do you know what to do you and they like for real it was those mothers that would say listen we give life and we have to know how to
Help save a life right the life not just the life we bring forward but the life of our community the beat of our community the maternal Instinct of a woman to help save life and so with with the hands-only CPR I think women are a critical part of the conversation and I
Think we’re birthing something we’re birthing of movement and that movement is gonna go forth through the D9 organizations through the churches through the schools it’s gonna keep going and we have to be the life force and remember the power of a woman we speak life we give life and we must be
Able to save a life and whatever civil we’re right there on the Forefront of it absolutely that’s right and you’ve got three very strong women here who are are not in agreement and understanding the power that you all have and the power of The Sisterhood in spreading the word and
Talking about this and and especially during this month when we’re talking about Black History Month and black women who have made such incredible strides in improving our country and and bringing us to such a level as well as American Heart month and the Heart being
The the center of all that we are in our lives and in our bodies and in our homes and and and talking and encouraging people to take care of themselves you all have these programs that you have spoken about um and and now we’re ready to take it to
The next level in terms of CPR and and extending the lives of people um is there a way that you all is there a language that you all speak to make them understand or is there something that you need to that Dr Brown can perhaps give us uh in order to uh make
This this this initiative so clear and so necessary so if I may just jump in with one of the ways in which we make it actionable and we take this information that Dr Brown has shared uh during our membership meetings where our chapters across the globe meet uh monthly to discuss how
We’re impacting and creating the changes that are necessary in community a quick way that we’re able to Institute change or initiate change is to be able to have a small CPR training internally to make sure that our members know about how to get the beat how to do and apply the
Hands-On CPR so that’s a fast way for us to immediately utilize all of our membership hours and time we spend together planning and working taking 10 15 minutes it didn’t take Dr Brown that long to be able to give us that example and then we plan for the programming
That takes it out to the communities and we add it as a part of what’s already being programmed it’s an easy add-on so that’s the challenge that I have for our Sisterhood is to take the action now and bring in a Dr Brown there are many health professionals in our areas that
Know CPR my husband is a retired scout master I raised two boys who were trained in CPR under Eagle Scouts and also working with all of our youth auxiliaries within Zeta Phi Beta sorority Incorporated we can immediately start the beat rolling in our own meetings and then taking it out to the
Streets with those that we work with so that’s the challenge that I have for Zeta Phi Beta sorority Incorporated put it on the end of the agenda and everybody practice the Hands-On CPR that’s right and and president Liberty um you and I have spoken before and and
Had conversations and and I don’t know if I share with everyone but my my business partner my best friend Yolanda and I own a yoga studio and we had and with the woman that has trained Us in CPR um encouraging her to have the classes
In our business and so isn’t that a way uh president Liberty and president homes for us to encourage people to have a space as you mentioned Dr Grant in at your chapter meetings and things like that but figure out a space where we can all kind of come together and we don’t
Necessarily have to wait for Dr Brown to come knocking on our doors or or interrupting our cookouts no kidding um but you know what I mean in terms of providing the space and and not make that an excuse Dr uh president Liberty yeah I I do agree that you have to
Create the vehicles for us to be successful in this work we have just aligned with American Heart Association to try to change our trajectory of our mou to really be focused on CPR um it’s it’s resonant to us and I I think even before you take the action
Sometimes you need to testimonies behind it and Demar Hamlin was a real live Miracle testimony for a lot of people including our men right and I also believe that we have a very personal issue that happened within our Sisterhood or one of our past National officers saved her husband’s life while
She was in a national office and he would not have survived had she not known CPR and was able to save him even though uh and she also had to teach her mom in the moment while she had to run and go open the door because she
Couldn’t stop the CPR and she saved her husband and so when we think about those live testimonies that creates the reason to believe and then once you had a reason to believe you had the programmatic thrust once you had a programmatic Thrust you create the space for it to happen
Wow if that is not a reason to keep a man in a relationship look I saved your life okay just leave it there Dr Cook homes what do you think about this um very similar just from the standpoint that um that we want to make sure that our members can really feel and
Understand and that’s why it was so great to hear Dr Brown um really kind of breaking it down uh with respect to um it not being a stigma to talk about making sure that it is something that we know the importance of I think that um a couple of things it’s important for
Everyone to understand their why I know American Heart Association uh that everyone was talking about um what each person’s why was and so we all have to think what is our why as we want to encourage our members to each encourage what is your why for the importance of doing this work
Um I know that there are so many of our members that have testimonies that they can share and if it’s not uh an individual testimony it’s about something that has happened within their family as I say every single one of us I know uh either know someone or has like
I do multiple members of my family who have heart disease no my mother had heart disease so for the long a long time in fighting for this work she has been my why along with a number of other family members and extended family members as well but having our members
Understanding their why making sure that we’re able to um at our conferences our conventions and then our individual chapters not only in our meetings but to encourage the continued health fairs and other things that our chapters are already doing to get this message out to the community that’s awesome that is
Awesome and speaking of the why uh there’s there’s a young man that we’ve mentioned uh obviously throughout this show and that is DeMar Hamlin or as he likes to call himself D ham and he has begun a partnership with the American Heart Association and has a challenge so
Let’s take a look at this young man and see what he has to say about CPR what’s up everybody it’s dham once again I want to thank everybody for the love and support over these past few weeks as you know CPR saved my life earlier this year
On the field and CPR can easily save your life or someone you love that’s why I’m proud to announce that I’m partnering with the American Heart Association and kicking off the mar Hamlin’s three for heart CPR Challenge and of course this one’s got Three Steps step one go to heart.org three to watch
A short video to learn hands-only CPR step two donate to the AHA to fund CPR awareness and education and step three Challenge three friends to do the same to kick things off I’m challenging the goats LeBron James Tom Brady and Michelle Obama you’ve all been challenged and one more thing make sure
You share your videos on all socials and tag me and have your hearts up hearts up D ham I love that and I I’m gonna take the challenge I’ve learned CPR but I am going to Challenge three of my friends and um first of all I mentioned him earlier and he needs to
Learn how to do this if not to just get a date or something it’s Jay Anthony Brown and and it’s not just because he’s just hasn’t had a chance to get his hands near a woman’s breasts in a long time but that’s another story all together
Um but I I do challenge to Anthony Brown I am also challenging two other two funny Mamas and they understand the importance of good heart health and that is my friends and comedians Sherry Shepard host of the Sherry show and Kim Whitley who is also a stand-up comedian
And an actress they understand the importance of it I am challenging them and since uh dham mentioned one half of the Obama family I’m gonna I’m gonna challenge the president he is uh he’s he is the goat for for many of us and so I challenge you President Barack Obama to
Be a part of the three for heart Challenge and ladies I don’t know if you are ready to share who you are challenging but um if if anybody wants to give those challenges that you would like to make here um or think about them for in a little
Bit and um I I heart I encourage everyone heartily if I can use that word to to make the challenge and to follow through on it and to make sure that we are the beat that we be the beat in order to carry on the successful program
The American Heart Is is now encouraging us and and following in the footsteps of Dr Catherine Brown we so appreciate that as well anybody else want to make a challenge well I tell you I’m jumping out there I’m personally challenging all nine of the D9 presidents to learn CPR
And a double challenge I’m willing to jump on zoom and travel to them to teach them so that’s my Challenge and she’s going to bring Sal with the president I’m falling on you I’m calling y’all all out and Dr Catherine might just knock at your door and make sure that you know
CPR so Dr Grant president Liberty president cook homes that’s my challenge if you don’t know it I’m here to teach you if she’s going to come into the church house on a Sunday morning or go to the family barbecue or to the domino game you know she can put the challenge
And meet you all wherever you all are I’m going to meet him wherever they are that’s right absolutely and we take your challenge so just put it off I know I’m speaking for everyone they will speak for themselves though but we take your challenge we take the opportunity we
Will take the opportunity to bring you in that is exciting for me and at this point in time I’m challenging it’s more than three but I’m challenging the rest of my executive committee our other officers as well as all of our regional officers um to lead the charge in your respective
Regents I’m also challenging the leaders of our national headquarters staff to learn CPR because that way we will be able to make a difference and save lives and think about this ladies how with your vast memberships we’re going to cover the country if not the world with
People who are CPR ready and certified to do this how great is that it’s awesome 2.5 million plus yes come on exactly we are stronger together and uh just like President cook home said you know I I was able to learn CPR but I will take it again as part of the
Challenge and also challenge our International board of directors as well as my extraordinary eight regional directors so that they can move this forward I think we can have a lot of fun with this and I love D Ham’s video and we can utilize social media to encourage
One another to take the challenge we never know whose life we’re saving and it is an honor to be in service so when we take that seriously 2.5 million strong we can go out there Dr Brown and we catch the beat get the beat and get
All these Hearts pumping so thank you to American Heart Association for this opportunity to partner and to use our Collective voices to save lives that’s right yeah and president Liberty would you like to have a closer I’m going to challenge Beyond just my board of directors and our you know our Board of
Records comprises our regional leadership as well but in our headquarters staff but I’m going to say I’m going to challenge each chapter fast alive so each chapter president locally you have to be lead by example and so if you do it I expect that you and your
Chapter members will do it as well so I’m going to challenge our chapter leaders which comprises an additional five to six hundred people um and if we stretch globally and then I’m going to cattle off some of our more notable members I’m going to call out NC
Light Fantasia and I guess I’ll throw in congresswoman Robin Kelly as well there you go bring the shy in that’s something chocolate and that will expand to the whole Congress and Congressional Black Caucus and everybody there that’s awesome that’s awesome ladies we’d like to end
On a lighter note and um since we are talking about life uh and and extending life and and continuing great lives of our family members and Friends uh whoever we can affect here uh we have a fun question we’re going to ask uh the young woman who has shown us the
Importance of recognizing and being the beat Leslie Jordan to join us uh back for our final question and that is your life you all are such incredible women if the life story were to be made of your life if a movie were to be made of your life what would the title be
So for me I would say um simply based upon my life it you know a blessed beginning or a blessed life um or blessed from the beginning some because I feel as though my life has been a blessing from the time that I was born until now and so uh and and with
All of my friendships and Partnerships and things like that I would go with blessed from the beginning anyone else have a a movie title you’d like to share I’ll I’ll go so yeah Dr Brown my mannequin’s name is Saul s-a-l Mr save a life so my movie would be called my life
With Saul because this has been my buddy for a long time and he doesn’t talk much but we’ve been a lot of places together so my life with Saul with saving a life that’s my mom Trust and Believe sometimes when they don’t talk a lot that’s the best partner to have it’s
Just just saying I’ll shake it off onto that civil Dr Grant do you have an idea oh yes uh the title will be faith in action my steps are ordered and everything that I have done and accomplished has given God the glory because I know I’m not here
Just because of me or for any acknowledgment but to carry out the destiny that I’ve been called to live and walking that out in faith is something that I consistently do so it would be faith in action The Best Is Yet To Come I absolutely love that what
About you my friend Elsie of Delta Sigma Theta sorority Incorporated I am thinking uh but um mine would be um faith family and fellowship with sisters amen oh I love that at first I thought you were actually talking about a real movie title and I had quote you never know you
Never know maybe maybe he was still Magnolias because it has to be still his Sisterhood and supportive sisters so you get the theme Around The Sisterhood I love that and and what about you Grand basilis uh Liberty what about you I would uh I love my last name Liberty so
It would have to be um maybe Liberty or impact the intersection of purpose passion and provision okay okay I like that purpose trademark that one yes and and you beautiful Leslie Jordan are our go red we’re a woman what do you think what about your life story what would you call it
At this point in my life I think my life story would be amazing is love because love has guided me through everything in my life um God’s love has just succumbed everything and he’s the reason why I’m here to love my friends my family my husband my son it’s just love that keeps
Me going each and every day and that’s just what I aspire to share is love and joy to everyone and you know keep doing your hearts I love that and you bring a beautiful heart to all of this and thank you ladies for sharing your time and and
