Move upward get better and be better so this is your career guidance to become a corporate cowboy in the workforce foreign this question is asking for advice and it’s coming from from someone who’s a little closer to my age range this person their their subject says should I leave a 100K salary
Unfulfilling career and they’re asking for advice now the tldr on this is that they are a 28 year old male with an amazing 120 000 salary but to depressed and lonely due to working from home thinking about switching careers and studying abroad or getting a masters I have over 50 000 in
Savings what should I do starting from scratch seems daunting but need a change ah so here’s the full story they say hi hi all I’m a 28 year old I’m a 28 year old male I’ve been struggling and I’ve been struggling with this since quarantine I tried changes but now I’m
Back to square one I’ve been working in Tech that’s the software for five years and loved it up until 2021 when quarantine took its toll and a work from home became the rule I was really struggling working from home because I got very lonely and basically had no human interaction and
Still rarely do my friends all have moved out of state or don’t hang out because they’re married or have a partner and only like to catch up once a quarter co-workers stopped hanging out and basically don’t meet up now that everyone is working from home I became
Very depressed and have been seeing a therapist but it got expensive I’ve worked my way up in the tech industry starting at 45 000 and now 120k I did this by switching jobs and improving my skills the job I had in quarantine paid 85k and at first it was awesome I was saving
About 3 000 a month and obviously it didn’t outweigh the fact that I was always sitting at a desk staring at a screen and alone in my apartment anyway my therapist and I decided switching jobs doing switching jobs doing what what switching jobs doing would help
I don’t know what that I don’t know what that sentence means anyway my therapist and I decided switching jobs would help there you go so I got a new job still in Tech and I’m making more than I ever have 120k with a 10 bonus unlimited PTO great benefits
Etc however I was under the impression that it would be hybrid where I work from home some days and some days in office it turns out that most people just work from home 100 of the time and those who are in office only go once a week
So I feel like it didn’t help much in fact my whole team is remote and out of state so the people who are in the office aren’t in my department and it’s hard to forge friendships with them when I’m the only one in my department I’ve gone into the office
And tried to forge relationships but it still feels very lonely for reasons I mentioned I sit at a desk by myself while other teams have their whole crew in office during lunch I approach people and try to sit with other folks but people don’t make the efforts to get to know me
What all right hold up so I’ve been thinking this this great salary isn’t worth it additionally my body craves movements and I sit all day I’ve developed physical health issues despite exercising every day I’m thinking about going back to school and studying something I’m passionate about like International Affairs or
Studying abroad getting a master’s degree I have about 50 000 saved up and wondering if I should take time off to switch careers is this a Brash move I feel I need a drastic change all right we’ll right off the bat I could just let you know that
I got people who would kill to be in your position I got people who would put you out of your depression for 120 G’s I know folks that’ll do it for 10. oh [ __ ] sounds like this person ah [ __ ] my bad maybe I’m in a I’m in a dark headspace
Because I’m under the weather and all but bear with me here ah [Applause] what this person needs is to grow curious to grow confidence to grow interesting they have to be more interesting I mean what’s up with that second to last was that the third to last paragraph
Where they’re like during lunch I approach people and I try to sit with other folks but people don’t make the effort to get to know me fam nobody gives a [ __ ] who you are you have to be interesting you have to be interested in others that shit’s reciprocal you have to go
Out of your way to meet people to get to know them nobody gives a [ __ ] that you’re working Tech nobody gives a [ __ ] that you started at 45 and are now making 120 you have to find a way I mean to make friends or incorporate friends about
As trustworthy as you can throw them but you need to make our Associates and if all you know is how to be uh I don’t know what you are have programmer some type of developer if all you know is how to develop don’t know how to socialize and actually network with others
You are in for a bumpy ride my friend a bumpy ride because I mean you’re 28 you’re still young you’re still young but if you think you’re out of options at this stage in your life it’s because you lack creativity and you’ve been creative enough and
Driven enough to get into Tech to work yourself up from 45 to 120. I cannot believe I refuse to believe that you’re stuck I refuse to believe that [ __ ] that’s that’s [ __ ] ridiculous that’s ridiculous now I would start by by uh yeah my first if real life revolves around Tech right
If tech is something you enjoy doing which I mean at this point it sounds like like it’s not because you are either burning out or you are seeking to Branch out of technology I mean I don’t know what is it you want to go back to school and study for a master’s degree
But just know that that shit’s gonna come with student loans very few very few people get into master’s degree programs with uh like forward scholarships and [ __ ] especially if it’s in [ __ ] degrees if they’re not like STEM related if you’re gonna go in for like a soft science or something something that you
Enjoy doing like International Affairs get the [ __ ] out of here bro get the [ __ ] out of here if you’re not already if you don’t already have ties to working internationally and yet sure you don’t you don’t include that in the body of your question but if
You don’t already have those ties to be working internationally breaking through now at this stage breaking through from just working from home because you have again you have the option to work hybrid so you go you could go into the office or you could stay home and while you’re at the office
Are you just sitting on your thumb now you’re just like [ __ ] sitting and waiting for people to approach you and talk to you like who the [ __ ] are you dog you could be home and hitting reps in between hitting sets in between I don’t know lines of code
I refuse to believe that you’ve developed physical health issues because you sit in front of a screen and stare at a computer all [ __ ] day I’ve been in your position I’ve been in your position and even I didn’t develop physical health there’s physical health issues to that extent and I wasn’t
Getting paid like you were I was not getting paid like right now if I was getting paid I’d probably value myself a little bit more I’d probably take a take a step away from the computer leverage my position if I can leverage myself into a Ford wrestling position do some [ __ ]
Push-ups God damn now uh I’m I’m hesitant because I mean we are on Reddit and Reddit tends to be a very uh quote unquote safe space very quote unquote extreme space because it could be either very blue or very red some of these are going to be either coddling this person
Or they’re going to be berating this person and I mean I’ve already done a little bit of both I’ve already done a little bit of both nothing to any real extreme but pretty much trying to expose this person to a little bit of humility like who the [ __ ] who the [ __ ] cares
About you and your position in life if you weren’t interested in others you shouldn’t care about anybody trying to reach out to you getting to know you that sounds a little uh narcissistic and for all we know this person could be narcissistic and they’re just going through it because they [ __ ] deserve it
Cute how our own brains I forget how the saying goes but our own brains make Heaven into hell and a hell out of heaven or something like that but it’s true they could be they could this company that they work for could have the best company culture and yet
This person is just down in the dumps and depressed because they’re not getting the the kind of social interaction that they want all right well as far as switching careers I mean I’m not going to say it’s late in the game but at this point you’ve you’ve already climbed a couple
Of rungs in this corporate structure in the in the corporate world we’ll call it even if it hasn’t been at this one company you’ve climbed a couple of rungs in the corporate world where it would benefit you to uh to remain in the same industry that you’re
In and expand broaden your skill set even further so that you’re capable of of uh of them see I I wouldn’t even want to put them in a [ __ ] manager’s position I was gonna say when you can start managing teams and managing projects but no I mean with the with the with the
Narcissism that I already seen up front I’d probably boot this guy across the ocean go study International Affairs if that’s what you wanna because sooner or later if the if they end up in a position that requires uh oversight they’re gonna they’re either gonna be a micromanager or they’re just gonna Power Trip
Because their employees aren’t making the effort to get to know them like who the [ __ ] cares about what you do on or off the clock there are ways to self-improve I mean can you hit 30 push-ups just off rip I don’t know start there in just one sec can you do that
I mean it’s it’s weird how people prioritize those some things in their life over others Wow Let’s Take a look at somebody’s comments real quick the first one says here honestly I feel like you shouldn’t be looking to your job to fill your social needs to begin
With so I personally think it’s a Brash move yeah I would agree I would agree how about you started just going to the [ __ ] gym you say you exercise every day but I low-key doubt that because this is the internet and folks lie on the internet so go to the [ __ ] gym
I would focus on getting friends outside of work yeah I would definitely agree the second comment pretty much says to focus on getting friends outside of work don’t rely on the workplace giving you friends because typically the people that you work with are not there to be friends to
Make friends to begin with they’re there as co-workers they’re there to provide uh technical or logistical support but they’re not there to give you emotional support if that makes any sense I doubt I doubt you’ve been through any kind of measurable uh Crucible that has forged the bond
The type that this person is looking for like this person wants people who are enamored I’m I mean literally just just given by by what he says people don’t make the efforts to get to know me yeah people he wants people that are just enamored with the
Fact that he’s 28 and making 120k but folks couldn’t give a [ __ ] [ __ ] they’re out paying bills also saving up their monies and probably visit therapists too what they need to do is uh is get out more just get out more touch grass bro go to the gym
Head I had a couple slots had a couple reps uh somebody responds to that saying this the the focusing on getting friends outside of work they say this I see too many people base their whole social lives on their jobs it’s good if you click with your co-workers but
Personally myself I like the separation of work and home life myself damn this guy this person all right all right just relax Alex relax for me work isn’t for socializing I’m just here for the paycheck amen I’ve been buddy buddy with co-workers before and it bit me in the ass before a
Worker had an obvious crush on me and didn’t think I was giving her enough attention so she ratted out my business the funny thing is it was actually Mutual until she did that I was getting ready to ask her out on a date bullet dodged yeah I don’t don’t [ __ ] where you work
Bro don’t [ __ ] where you eat op you have an amazing job they say that most people would sell their souls to a Crossroads demon for it I don’t know about all that I mean they probably go out and kill themselves a crossroad demon but sell their souls maybe if
You’re [ __ ] weak don’t give that up find fulfillments in other ways they say if you go to another job when this is working out for you just for socializing and it turns out to be toxic or not even that far just not as good as a working environment you’ll kick yourself
Go out and volunteer or join a club or something go to the gym and meet people there if you’re not that scared of kovid I’m terrified of covid so I just stay home but I’m okay being alone I just want my basic needs met maybe get a pet if you don’t have
One for now to keep you company I myself miss having cats around to keep me company somebody else says here find a church with a group your age get involved donates time in a Food Kitchen Pregnancy Resource Center or a jail Ministry laughs yeah those are all really great
Suggestions notice how I would say to those because a lot of this person sounds like they’ve made work their life so if they want to find fulfillment outside of work they’re gonna have to get creative me myself work is life right now everything that person just said like volunteering
Joining up was it volunteering donating time joining a club foreign all that you could do and keep a healthy work schedule or you could also do that and be working at the same time it’s just not working I mean a lot of those you see maybe that’s I’m just exposing
The way I think but all those areas that they touched on are run by corporations and me myself knowing how I work I’d be looking to network with the directors the executives the managers the supervisors I just want to know the ins and the outs of every organization that I
That I uh come into contact with somebody else here says bloody hell get a hobby work isn’t supposed to be your life take up a nice hobby with that dollar um I mean I would say yeah get into Firearms or something but this [ __ ] this guy sounds depressed he more than
Likely ended up taking himself out so yeah I mean with that dollar um yeah not just just blow it on therapy dog blow it on therapy because at least you’re you’re providing no don’t even take the therapy matter of fact go to ig right go to ig there’s a page

Anyone has similar hobbies and wants to hang out I mean that’s how you know shit’s getting out of hand a little bit with this reddish [ __ ] is that trying to find a subreddit for your area what kind of [ __ ] people do you think are on Reddit like the majority the majority I mean
They’ve got to be serious minded right to for them to even be on Career guidance but then like all the others are gonna be mostly mainstream normies where you’re going to be questioning whether or not whether or not it was worth leaving your house whether it’s worth leaving your work
From home position in order to socialize but you never know for every uh for every torn piece there is a war in peace for every torrent piece there is a rip piece there’s a there’s a saying there’s a proverb yeah I mean they say they want a drastic
Change but what they could have done is just continued looking for another job you never know maybe end up at a job where you can work in the office and the hybrid is is actually hybrid and you make more than 120k it’s like this [ __ ] just gave up on ambition
Just [ __ ] gassed out and he’s done and he’s just done he quit like I’m not gonna say depression ain’t real but if your State of Mind dictates how you carry out living your life I mean fam you got you got serious issues and they are all they are all internal damn bro

Offing yourself or what but it sounded dope get a sit or stand desk and stretch every hour go on walks and work out on your lunch break make digital friends through a hobby like getting on a Discord so there’s people to talk to whenever I’m sure there’s other things I’m not
Thinking of too stick to it and make where you are better or your problems will just follow you wherever you go see this person seems like the happy-go-lucky type even if they did start off their comment with some dank sentences here bearing this job before it’s dead [ __ ] I
Might have to take that this next comment here says I assume you’re single and relatively unattached if I had 120k per year with nothing to tie me down I’d go explore the country and possibly the world you could either do the van life if that sounds interesting to you from what I
Understand you tend to meet a lot of like-minded people at the various locations and set up spots so you may start to build a bit of social life you could also opt for short-term rentals live somewhere for three to six months and enjoy that enjoy that enjoy what
That location has to offer you I misread that move somewhere for three to six months and enjoy what that location has to offer see who you meet along the way and you may find your and you may find you love a location and decide to stay maybe it wouldn’t matter that work
Wasn’t fulfilling if the rest of your life started to be and someone says this is the best answer yeah I think that second half is the best answer but the van life maybe not so much maybe if you lived in short-term rentals or if you had a a feasible model I mean maybe
It’s because I’m not that minimalist I’m not that minimalist I mean I’ve got a lot of hardware and tools I suppose I could put in storage but if if I had to go out for an extended period I mean I’d probably be going I’d probably like to be at a short-term
Rental I think a short-term rental that way I get to see parts of a state or a region that I’m in otherwise I’d be bouncing around from hotel to hotel I’d be living it up on 120k a year but at the same time if this person really really really wants to go into
Work fam just just apply for a new job I’ll I don’t understand what the holdup is I don’t mean this to be rude but your job doesn’t need to fulfill your social desires somebody else says unless you’re working so many hours that you aren’t able to have a social life in
Which case you should definitely leave hobbies and being outside your home when you’re not working will help you can also just go to a co-working space if you are so if you so desperately need to work around people I just can’t fathom throwing away such a
Big salary if you find an office job making the same or more go for it yeah I mean folks are saying throwing away this big ass salary but keep in mind that this person was making less at a place where they were almost entirely work from a home and at this new spot
You see like this one of my mind where my devious mind goes at this new spot they have a hybrid model where you can either work from home or come into the office and they make more money so you have money it sounds like you got time
And you have a little bit more resources to actually go out of your way talk to some other people in the [ __ ] building and make a network and make some moves but if you’re stuck in a position in life where you think you’re you’re self-important you believe to be self-important and you’re waiting
For somebody else to make the move to get to know you nobody’s gonna [ __ ] care nobody’s gonna give a [ __ ] about what you’re up to and that’s life that is life right there I mean yeah this person might have a point in saying that your job doesn’t need to
Fulfill your social desires but me personally being a social researcher my social desires revolve around my job as as a researcher so again I suppose it has to do with with the different interests and frankly the only reason I could per I could conceive of this person wanting to go back to
School risk running up with debt some student bones risk ending up in a dead end with a with a dead end degree or some or some unmarketable degree is is for the social aspect of the classroom that’s that’s just called the maladjustment that’s a maladjustment of having entered the workforce having into
The workforce with no [ __ ] social skills no [ __ ] social skills because I mean not to be rude but also kind of to be rude this person might have peaked in high school you feel me this person might have peaked in in undergrad and now they want to go back and relive that
When people or when they thought that people were really interested in them and they actually struck up a conversation with people but that might not even be true that might not even be true that’s a [ __ ] illusion and what they want is to what they wanted I guess is to never
Have is to never have left the illusion they want to continue in The Matrix and that’s a matrix within the Matrix because when you were young and dumb you don’t see the Matrix around you but when you graduate or when they finally let you leave the education system you see
The world for what it really is and that is a matrix so hence a matrix without a matrix and if this person wants to go back so the first Matrix from once they came from effectively they’re asking to be infantilized they’re asking to have a safe space created for them a safe space
That gives them the minimal mental stimulation without the physical aggravations of life that’s why they got a therapist anyways if these kind of episodes which I mean they’re not one-off right they’re they’re part of the series but if you do like these episodes go ahead give it a

Of who you can befriend don’t wait for somebody else to befriend you you want friends go out and make them you want Associates you have to associate to make Associates you have to incorporate them to have them be your Associates that’s that’s that that’s what the corporate
Cowboys that’s pretty much the the motto of the corporate Cowboys it’s they’re powered we’re powered by incorporating Associates so imagine that imagine that it’s just a circle of life and for some I guess living in this state of depression is more valuable than actually exiting it otherwise they’d be making moves to get
The [ __ ] out but hey maybe uh that one U.N study was right was it the was it the wef study said that like salaries above twenty thousand dollars or some [ __ ] like that actually yield negligible amounts of Happiness which I don’t believe but there’s just a mindset for everything there’s a mindset for
Everything and this person might be sitting on 120k salary right now but [ __ ] we don’t know if they do have loans from undergrad and maybe those undergrad loans are [ __ ] them in the ass but they think it was worth it because they were sitting around people that
