We get into all of that stuff um I I’ve came with the agenda today we are going to um well hey hey y’all in the comments share where you’re located all right and also I would love to know uh what type of locks do you have let’s start there
Do you have um traditional locks and this is typically centered around the sizing so you got traditional locks you have Micro locks um sister locks um free form locks Wicks like what what’s your hair doing these days post that in the comments um if you have your water definitely make sure you grab
It we are going to be getting into some juicy stuff and I would also say warm up your hands hopefully your hands don’t sound like you start a fire like mine but warm up your hands because you’re going to need to be doing some typing okay we gonna have some some fun today

Loocks for those of you um that may have heard about that name on the streets is Sister loocks a patented b a trade secret or C trademarked let me know in the chat is it a patented b a trade secret or C trademarked what is the sisterlock
System y’all know some people you may have been in your research or you may currently be a part of the the system s loock we’ll say crew we’ll say sorority the is loock sorority um and there’s a lot of conversation around it so our sister locks a BC all right let me know
In the chat let’s see who gets this uh right and I can acknowledge that for for a little bit of time even though I am a train I’ve been trained through the sister loock system I still misspoke and I’ve said I know in past videos and
Probably on my blog I have to go back and search but I’ve said that it was C and then or rather that it was a patented but in reality sisterlocks is actually only trademarked which you see and the difference being and why this is important to tonight’s conversation talking about the
Throry O the soror is of Lo this is about to get juicy um is because the sister Lock’s name it holds a trademark so if you trademark something do you have any business owners here shout out your salon or business put in the chat definitely um a trademark and I
I I have a I have a couple I’m not gonna pull them up there I got a couple trademarks but a trademark what it does it basically allows you to own the rights to either the name or the image um under specific types of things so like if I
I have crown elements right and so I trademark the name Crown elements for hair care for education for beauty but someone could come out with like um a I don’t know a brand of paper stationary and call it Crown elements because I don’t have the trademark for
Crown elements paper if that makes sense so to have the trademark on something you have to specify where you own that in what type of space or industry that is owned whereas a patent gives you um protection for years around a certain system and y’all know because I’m a
Little nerd I’m a a little Little Nerd here do y’all does anybody remember back when uh cell phones you could go get a phone right you could get a phone for like $100 like it was very affordable and all of a sudden phones became $1,000 do y’all remember that when it used to
Be super inexpensive and all sudden it was just like dang why I got to outright buy a phone for thousands of dollars uh one of the things that changed that was because somebody forget their name they patented the technology for cell phone usage and
Legit it is two boxes and a line I think three three boxes in the line that’s the trademark to basically say you have a receiver you have something that intercepts and you have somebody that is initiating the call so they initiate it they they route it and then someone
Receives it they said that is telecommunications I own that and this is not even a person that like does it but they patented and so you have patent protection you got to pay the person that owns the patent to use that type of technology and so all the cell phone
Companies now have to pay this guy to use cell phone or to create and sell cell phones so you know of course naturally they pass it down to us so just a fun fact go look that up patents and trademarks totally different things but they give you some protection
So how that relates to tonight’s conversation and shout out to you if you picked uh C for our quiz saying that sister lock is actually trademarked that is true and because of this trademark distinction it has created a world of I’d say chaos and if you watched my recent video um it has
Produced a world within locks that is not I believe it’s not necessarily a safe space but watch watch that video I posted on my channel earlier tonight we’re talking about the sority do we have anybody in the in in the Divine n in the uh sorority sorority uh sisters
Here I myself am a part of alpha CA Alpha sori Incorporated and for those of you that may be part of Greek life or maybe you’re not a part of Greek life if you’ve you’ve kind of heard you know aka’s Deltas um SG R Zetas like omegas Alphas
Like you heard those names before but you didn’t really dive into it just a little quick quick history quick and dirty here um alphaa Alpha sori was the first soror okay um and in 1908 that’s where he was created from those members and back back then there was
Some standards T again that had to do with your s it’s just it’s we’re not going to go all the way there but there were members of that sority Alpha Alpa AKA that didn’t like really how it was operating and so they were like you know what yeah we said
We’re gonna be AKA but nah actually we’re going to start our own and they created Delta Sigma Theta and but it was originally AKA so that’s where kind of that like beef happens because you started here but then okay you you want to do your own thing because you found another way to
Do it so but they still are intending to share the same Mission well I have learned that well let me before before we get into that let me show you something and I apologize if you’re listening to the audio experience you can’t see it um check the link um
We’re around 10 minute time Mark skip to that so you can see the picture that everyone else is seeing right now in the comments looking at this picture are these sister locks press uh a one if you think they are sister locks press A2 if you do not
Think these are sister loocks when you look at these pictures would you say they are sister loocks one for yes two for no okay I’m not gonna give you the answer yet not going to get the answer yet all right cash your vote now take a look at this picture
This picture number two do you believe these are sister locks press a three for yes and a four for no are these sister locks so curious of your answer okay so what I’ve shown you in fact um and asked you whether or not these are sister locks I I’ve shown
You two pictures of two very new Interlocking Systems that in fact are not s locks nope neither one of them not this one and not this one okay they are not sister locks but to um probably to you and I well I’ll say to people that are not um Consultants or locticians
If I’m scrolling on Pinterest I’m looking online to try to find pictures for how I want my hair and I stumble upon these I’m like oh I want this this is what I want I want small locks okay and you know maybe they’re they’re um they’re I want fullness like those are typically
Some of the words to describe them well in fact some people that were here went through that good old sister lock program was like actually I can do it better came up with their own system their own way of doing things and in my opinion this is this is just me I once
Believed that this was absolutely a form of Chaos because it creates confusion like what do I get how do what’s the difference like it looks it looks very similar but you’re telling me because I don’t get this one two three and I only
Get one that I I I don’t have it and so back in the day we called these the stepsister locks like it’s really crazy I want to say crazy but it’s mindblowing how the sister lock system in particular has been able to ingrain itself within the lock Community but when we come
Back I want to talk to you about how this impacts you and what you got to be mindful for oo this girl just told me my locks smell good and I was like I am so glad that I sprayed the pure scalp on my hair after that workout because sis I’m out here

The lock world and again I very much thought this was a confusing chaotic process because people that often came to my chair saying they wanted one thing but not understanding everything that goes with it they’re just like more confusion and within our culture within our black hair um industry in particular
I feel like that confusion only makes it worse for us like it doesn’t allow us to move forward because we’re stuck with like I don’t understand how to move and so we need Clarity when we think about these different Founders or these different systems and how they impact our lock
Journeys or how they allow us to obtain Freedom with our locks because I believe a lot of having locks is about Freedom instead of trying to decipher what’s this type what’s this or what’s this or what’s that or instead of that fundamentally getting back to the basics you know it’s it’s always amazing
How getting to the basics the root of things just brings more clarity we are so out here but when we have Clarity or start at the bottom at the foundations it makes it helps make it all make sense what this comes down to or what I believe hair locking can be boiled down
To if we’re getting that to the found foundations of it is how they are maintained because that’s that’s the most biggest part of your lock Journey yes foundations and parts matter yes the the technique that is used to start matter I’m not saying they don’t but that is the
Start but for the life of your life what’s some what is what you’re going to be doing all the time grooming them so how are they maintained and I believe that if we ask ourselves and we like okay I want locks we think not necessarily about the system the sorority the foundations of
How we’re starting them or what we’re going after but rather how do we want our hair to be maintained how will having locks best fit within our lifestyle and for a lot of women that see these really small locks or they see that really intricate grid and the parts
A lot of them are not necessarily looking for sisterlocks or this thing up here or microlocks this obscure word what they’re looking for is versatility and flexibility which I believe interlocking offers and so at the root of it you are looking to have your hair interlocked now which bucket or system
Or sorority you fall into is going to depend on um how you choose to show up and in sorority or Greek terms who you’re trying to serve or how you’re trying to serve that is when you then go okay I want to get Bell micro locks because I
Want extensions or I want to get tiny locks because I like the flexibility of going to these particular people or I want a sister locks because I want to have the package of the consultation and the the products and the that’s when you start going out there but when you’re at
The bottom at well not at the bottom at the start the beginning you’re thinking about my roots and having locks how do they fit in my life I’m cool with having a a smaller number of locks so that I can easily maintain them and um I want
It to be quick for maintenance all right go ahead and go with retwisting palm rolling that’s where you live and then from there you can like okay I want to have locksmith and I want then you can start going down those paths or you know what I like my I like
My roots real full I like um you know just getting my hair maintained a few times a month I’m not tender-headed all right I think I would work best with the crochet method and then you start going down all the Consultants systems or whatever that do crochet but when you’re talking about
About having really small locks when you’re talking about having a um hair Locking System that you can wash regularly you can exercise with that is um for lack of a better word very similar to Loose Hair you probably want interlocking then you can go down the rabbit hole or start trying out different
Sorties for how you can um achieve a state of interlocked hair does that make sense does that offer some clarity because for me seeing the high levels like see going recently and this is very this is a recent Revelation going to this convention and seeing how more and more sororities or
Sister systems are being introduced into the market and are compared against this one standard of sister loocks it was not helpful but having it just taken back down to the to the basics really was like you know what that’s what we need so hopefully this conversation helped
