Hey YouTube welcome back to my channel for today’s video we are going to be talking about the number one phrase that I hate and you’ve heard me talk about this phrase before but this is a phrase that is commonly used by people who I feel don’t necessarily know the reasons
Behind what they want or the reasons why they want to join an organization in itself and that phrase is to before but this is a phrase that is commonly used by people who I feel don’t necessarily know the reasons behind what they want or the reasons why they want
To join an organization itself and that phrase is to be a part of something greater than myself when asked the question of why you want to join an organization that should not be your answer and the reason why I don’t think it should be your
Answer is because like I said it is the number one phrase that people use when they’re asked why why they want to join an organization and I feel like if you want to join an organization you should have a more clarified reason as to why
You want to be a part of an organization because if you want to be a part of something greater than yourself you could be part of a a service organization a church community group anything you could be a part of anything to be a part of something greater than
Yourself the thing that I want you guys to think about as far as why you want to join an organization is what is it about that specific organization what is it about that particular group or that particular chapter or whomever what is it about that thing that resonates in you that
Makes you want to be a part of that because to say that you want to be a part of something greater than yourself is not a clear answer and I want you guys to stop using that because it is something that almost everyone says to
The point where if I hear someone say it I’m like that’s not a good enough answer for me and I’ve been a a part of intake and I’m still being a part of intake so I say this to help you think about why you actually want to join that
Organization and the way that you can figure that out is do your research I’ve said it before and I’ll continue to say doing your research is probably one of the best ways for you to figure out why in fact you want to Jo an organization
And if you would actually be a good fit and what do you have to bring to the table of that organization to make them better and to make your community better if you can’t answer those three things then you need to really evaluate your reasonings why one thing that I always
Tell people to do too if you don’t know the reason why is especially when you’re in the early stages of finding out what organization best suits you do this before you even go in and go to intake or go to uh intake orientation or any of
Those things I want you to take a moment and write down the things that are most important to you write down your values write down your interests write down char ities that are important to you uh service initiatives that are important to you write those things down before
You even look at the organization that you’re interested in joining and I want you to look at every single organization that interests you if you’re interested in a fraternity look at every single fraternity’s mission statement if you’re interested in sorority look at every single sorority’s mission statement and
See if what you wrote on that paper aligns with what that organization says they do and if they align then maybe maybe there’s a connection there if they don’t align and some other some other organization does then maybe you need to re-evaluate your reasons why you want to join that initial organization and
That’s that’s pretty much all that I have to say about it but I it’s you know for it to be so close to intake or for it to be intake season I want you guys to succeed and I also want you guys to present yourselves as the most Optimum
Candidate that you can be and doing that is really digging deep and finding your reasons why and being certain that your reasons are going to be reasons that make people actually want to choose you not based on Surface value not based on who you know but based on the things
