To Fifth Street on the Baylor University campus for the 114th anniversary Baylor homecoming parade I’m Lori fogelman along with the voice of the Bears John Morris and also joined this year by kcen our great partner uh of course with Chris Radcliffe the week night uh anchor
For Channel 6 we’re so thrilled to have you with us Chris great to be working with both of you today we’re looking forward to an exciting day of course this time of year you never know what you’re going to get late October and here we are peeling the clothing off it
Feels like the Caribbean out here so we’ll see if everybody along the parade route uh brought an umbrella and maybe a fan I think you definitely need a fan we saw some of the video from past parades and and John we’ve been out here so many
Years doing the parade and and times uh we look like the Michelin men because we are just bundled up or at least I am uh but you you don’t need a you can uh go Sans the coat today so it’s a it’s muggy out here but we’re so thankful we’ve had
Rain but we don’t have rain during this homecoming parade and you know the great thing it doesn’t squash the enthusiasm of Baylor fans family there’s a great group here on Fifth Street and it’s fun we’ll show you some of those sites in the parade route that began in downtown
Waco there’s folks lined up the entire route so this is going to be fun it’s going to be really fun this morning yeah the parade stepped off this morning about 8:00 from uh fourth and uh from eighth in Austin they go down to Fourth Street go all the way down fourth they
Make a little bit of a turn uh they weren’t able to go all the way down Fifth Street now which goes straight into the Baylor campus uh but they got on Fourth Street the usual route made a right turn on the Frontage Road and then we’ll be turning down uh Fifth Street on
Campus here in just a little bit but we also do have another guest with us uh who’s joining us from kcen and that’s Mike Rogers he is our roving reporter along the parade route today and we’re really excited uh that Mike can bring us a little bit of a different perspective
Uh along the parade route uh last night we unfortunately weren’t able to have the bonfire and the pep rally because of the rain and the lightning in the area it truly was uh just some dangerous lightning and we needed to make sure everybody stayed safe but we had a
Wonderful new tradition that began and that was over at the Mark and Paula herd Welcome Center which is at the corner of University Parks and I35 it is a a front door uh to Baylor University a spectacular new facility and we had homecoming at the herd and John it was
So remarkable to see so many people of all ages enjoy that facility it was it was remarkable yeah and what a great building like you said a front door to the university so many people uh were there last night it’s like we’re coming for homecoming where we going to meet oh
Let’s meet at the herd Welcome Center so it’s perfect location and a perfect meeting spot for alums coming back for uh for current students you know to go to and for future students to come through when they come to visit Baylor campus absolutely and and you know what
It was it was nice to have that facility because because it was indoors and everybody could be indoors be last night yeah with plenty of room and and again all of the uh the special features there and all of the fun events that were scheduled the photo Ops and and uh it
Was just a it was a wonderful evening or afternoon and evening and that will become homecoming Central uh on our campus uh Chris we mentioned one of your colleagues Mike Rogers is on the Parade route and and I believe he’s ready to speak with us this morning yeah Mike are
You out there let’s let’s hear from you yeah guys there are hundreds of Baylor fans out here celebrating the Bears today of generations past and present hundreds of people lining the street as you can see as you can see we’ve even got some police es uh one second we have couple

Check us out on Twitter wherever you find us uh any streaming device and uh you can watch the parade today while you’re at mobile running your errands before the big football game starts yeah that’s I think one of the most amazing things now is it does not matter where
You are in the world pretty much you can watch this parade uh we do appreciate so much uh kcent TV and our uh great partners and and in broadcasting the parade but we also want to give a special thank you this morning to the uh sad Joe Black Family Foundation they uh
Have made uh this Foundation at STI Joe uh the late STI Joe Black a professor at Baylor Unity university has made this parade uh available to everyone uh she was a longtime faculty member in family and consumer Sciences uh she passed away in 2010 but her presence and her
Influence continued to be felt by the Baylor family uh she established and her family established numerous endowed student scholarships and academic funds there’s a garden endowment that enhances the beauty of Founders mall on campus and that extends to the support of the parade broadcast this morning to ensure
That everyone has the opportunity to enjoy the parade wherever they may be so this morning during this Baylor homecoming parade the 114th anniversary homecoming at Baylor we remember Professor sad Joe Black and we appreciate the generous support of the STI Joe Black Family Foundation what a legacy STI Joe Black
Has left behind and we are all benefiting from that so thank you very much to the S Joe Black Foundation I here the Golden Way band not far away right at the mouth of Fifth Street here so a Parade’s about to hit the heart of
Campus this will be fun it will be and I believe along this Parade route we will see around 13 floats if we understand about 12 balloons uh we it all just depends if you have’t you know those balloons are hard to to handle you have to have enough people around uh to hang

Homecoming weekend um honestly just kind of hanging out with my friends um it’s really popular that we do the bonfire and everything and so yeah obvious it’s just overall just a lot of fun so is a bonfire like a Baylor tradition for homecoming yeah we do it every year um
Just a bunch of students gather around and they just kind of have a big event for Baylor and they just light the fire and then like all the sports and Athletics perform and everything so yeah it’s just a really fun time and finally you know the atmosphere everyone really
In a good mood today everyone got their Baylor Pride out today you know how’s it feel be it’s actually a lot of fun being here at Baylor we actually got up at like 6:00 in the morning to like get our seats and like see all the floats and

Another big float headed our way here about to make the turn toward the fountain well that’s Eagle Christian Academy represented in the Baylor homecoming parade we appreciate uh Eagle Christian Academy a private Christian School here in Waco their vision is to raise the next generation of leaders
Rooted in their identity in Christ to impact the world is it fun M shows how this is a a Bor event yes but it’s a Waco event also absolutely remember the parade starts in downtown Waco as it has traditionally way back when in 1909 it kicked off at 11th and Washington so
This morning fourth in Austin on the way to campus this morning they are followed by our friends with best buddies yes best buddies is a club here at B that establishes friendships with people in the Waco Community who have intellectual and developmental disabilities they are paired with biddy
And Bose Coffee coffee shop that has a goal of radical inclusivity and uh Acceptance in the workplace for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities we got another big uh homecoming float with us from Tri Delta and Delta do Delta Dreamland is the theme they’re living in a Delta Dreamland a

Culture and the Aloha spirit with the Baylor Community yes Laura you can relate to that can’t you yeah spent some time on the island sure did fun brother still lives on Maui and and uh love the opportunity to go back back and we’ve got a wonderful community of Baylor students from Hawaii how about the urban dance Society we’ve got a hipop dance organization at Baylor University that promotes community and inclusion no matter your skill level experience or lack thereof in my case you’re all welcome to come dance so have a good time and strike a pose today got another school organization with us
Today the Vanguard College Preparatory School celebrating its 50th year in education just added sixth grade from what I understand they are growing cheerleaders looking great today again that uh color of scheme of blue and white all invited to the green and gold parade today well you definitely stand out that is for sure
But again that’s what’s fun about this parade is as John was saying earlier it’s not just all about uh Baylor University uh Baylor welcomes our our community uh Waco is our neighbor and Baylor is a neighbor to Waco and we are great partners and we love to have all
The community members the schools and organizations in the Baylor homecoming parade today as you mentioned Lori many times that uh it’s not just on campus parade it starts off campus and travels this way so it really involves all of downtown the whole Community campus Realtors is a property
Management company located on 8th Street next door to Common Grounds Heritage crey you know what I’m talking about off campus housing in the Baylor bubble we appreciate campus Realtors got Asian Ministry inter Varsity with us an oncampus Ministry that desires to see asian-americans transformed as they explore what it means to follow Jesus
Together well another semi means another large float headed this way we’ve you said 13 of them today right we’ve seen about seven or eight of them and this uh this looks like another impressive Masterpiece oh wow look at this it’s sailor Bears summer home apparently all right Alpha and beta
Upsilon Kai it’s the Sailor bear summer home absolutely uh beta Upsilon Kai invites you to go along with the journey to sailor bear summer home inspired by Baylor’s retro sailor bear logo this float takes a look into the home away from Baylor where sailor Bear spends
Most days setting sail in the brazes sea illuminated by Pat nef inspired Lighthouse he often finds lots of Hidden Treasures like Dr Pepper barrels and football game highlights stowed away in a bottle yes if only we could dream that is nice man I’ll take some Dr Pepper
Barrels yeah exactly is that a good vintage yes yes so they are a uh saor bear then ends his days relaxing in his very own all Britain house which with his friendly neighbors of course president of Baylor Linda Livingstone and first jent Brad Livingstone who served dinner to the
Baylor campus the other night one night this week what about that believe wed Wednesday night I believe had dinner with the living stones again the the weather held for them and thousands of Baylor students on the front lawn of the livingstones home at Albritton house and
Uh all the food trucks uh the favorite food trucks from throughout Waco and and the local area serving free food to Baylor students that’s amazing this is student government carrying the bu balloon that is great welcome to student government and we appreciate them and their contributions to life on the Baylor campus
And good morning to more of our Student Government [Applause] Representatives I have a viewer question sent in wanting to know Lori we may or may not know the answer to this but where are these huge floats built when you think about the size of these and
The height there’s got to be some kind of Warehouse or open space where these can be put together yeah there are a lot of spaces all around the city of Waco most of them are pretty secret okay but uh but yes they’ve got to be in a place
Where they can uh where they can work where they can work safely where they can protect their uh their float that they’re constructing but that’s a great question um but the the best thing about them is you can see all the floats on Spade Avenue in front of Waco Hall
That’s where they will be where you can come by and take a look at them and see them up close because they’re pretty spectacular yeah then that’s neat you see them all at once and you can go by and kind of pick your favorite and look
At the attention to detail and we did just a few minutes ago we had Waco city council members with us this morning and I saw with a a great arm just slinging C uh candy to the crowd and that was our Waco mayor Dylan Meek with us this morning proud Baylor grad Dylan
Meek this Baylor student or Baptist student memory uh Ministries Baptist student Ministries is multiple different Ministries on the Baylor and BSM campus within the buo community and I think they are in football game mode already with their sick and bears they’re quite excited and ready I like the the uh the bubbles this
Morning couple more homecoming Court nominees come by all right there’s Judge Thomas West I was wondering when we were going to see him with the 19th District Court I had the pleasure of being called to his court uh this summer spent a day with him before being finally excused but it
Was good to see uh the judge yes you had us a little worried there Chris no call to court in the working fashion yes that’s right jury duty that’s right nice of saying that my wife was called last Monday she was very lucky home by 9:30 wow wow they said too
Many people here were sending half of you home and she was on that group so when she walked through the door I said whoa that was a fast case wo Park Rangers we appreciate them and the way they Patrol the brazes glad to report we uh got over a
Foot up on our Lake now Lake Waco just because of the rains the other night we’ll see if it holds of course but uh want plenty of rain but we don’t want it all at once cuz that leads to that flooding but that’s where these guys come in that’s right very important job
Especially when you have sailgating on the brazis river outside of mlan Stadium yes a fall Tradition now are these some [Laughter] Pirates it’s the Kappa Alpha or their theme is Marty Gro Marty gr themed float okay hello to capap Alpha that makes sense now with the purple and gold
Yeah who’s got the king cake who’s got it well they’re not a secret society but they are the Society of Automotive Engineers that’s right they spend over a year designing building bu and racing roads off of Baja Vehicles so let’s head along the Parade route and learn a
