Hey guys and welcome back to my channel today I’m going to be doing a sorority girl related video because I recently got an email asking me about my experience in a sorority as an African American who joined a non African American city so I hope you guys like

This video stay tuned I think you have any questions let me know in a comment section below but let’s get popping anyways let’s get started okay Wow my name is Carly and I’m 23 years old I joined a sorority when I was 22 was I 21 at a time I joined assure you

When I was 21 turning 22 so I rush this spring semester of my junior year and during that time I was going through a lot so I felt like it was better for me to experience that right then so I had made some friends and I decided that I

Want to rush like I want to join a sorority so I joined Sigma Lambda gamma National sorority incorporated Oh shots all my gammas I cross spring 14 and that was the most exciting part of my life recently but Jeff um after that I was in my sorority for a year and a half

Because I recently graduated from undergrad and in May so I am one year again the gamma bursary is in a troll song turn Ella yes so that’s really exciting but you asked me how is it being an african-american in a non African American story well I joined a multi-cultural sorority

Which is part of the multicultural Greek Council at the University of North Texas shout to my Eun TVM oh yes anyway so um I did that within my sorority but at the time I was crossing I had one other african-american girl and her name is Sydney that’s my best Seifer SC’s and

The rest of them were Hispanic and Asian and chili and all kind of makes races so it was not hard for me to sit in just because there was never really a black and Hispanic thing going on it was meaning just hey you know a sorority girl thing basically so it wasn’t right

At all at first I got looks and I got comments saying why didn’t you join a multi-cultural sorority in you’re a black girl and she said I’m PC and all they stopped and people were like giving me looks like oh my goodness you still want to be a white girl

You joined a white girl sorority first stop pop hold your brakes homegirl no I did not join a white girl story and there’s no such thing as a white girl already it’s called Pamela hammock yeah and get it together whole place that that was pretty sure I said it right but

Yes so there is a lot of stories within the whole entire United States PHP vis family and there’s multicultural Greek Council so yes so within those three councils there are a number of sororities and I need family to go alongside cultural because I felt like

That’s why I fit in the most so maybe an African American I didn’t see color I just saw a group of girls that I know I would get along with and that I would have a really good undergrad experience which I did because an end-of-day I love

My sorority my sisters on the bomb I got a little she is so precious easy her she’s so cute and I miss her so much shout out to my little Ashley and during that time I only got one little because no one else fits with my little perfect

Family and we are the bottom no one else offended them but yes so maybe African American join a sorority a lot of people felt like I was betraying my true self and I should have joined a black sorority but that’s just not who I am I

Didn’t feel like I fit in yes I went to some events for a black sorority originally I wanted to be an aka which is alpha kappa alpha sorority incorporated but when i was doing those um events and stuff i it wasn’t for me I

Didn’t feel like I fit in so I chose my behind somewhere else and I did um Sigma Lambda gamma and I am still in love I’m still alive to this day no one is perfect no story is ever perfect everyone is always gonna have their little crazy stories and stuff but it

Wasn’t hard for me to adjust to almost a cultural sortie being african-american just because the simple fact we didn’t see color um my sisters were very supportive but my sisters was so excited that oh my goodness I can’t believe you join me so worried like I’m so excited

Well my sister married a Hispanic and my niece is half black and half his fairy so my sister is so cultural and all that stuff but the main thing that directed me towards that was the fact that one of the principles was cultural awareness and I’m big on culture I’m West Indian

I love everything about culture I want my kids to be diverse like my kids are going to know their roots like they’re gonna know that mama is was teeny and she crazy they’re gonna know the grandma crazy too they don’t know all that stuff because

That’s who I am I am proud of where I’m from I’m from the US Virgin Islands and I rep that all day every day my line Jackie even have my flag on it because home girls love culture but yes so um to answer your question no wasn’t

Hard for me to adjust the multi-cultural story with things like council all the people were really friendly and really nice no one was ever like my goodness look at that black girl like no we are in the 21st and she were things adjust people get used to it you know

There’s no more coloreds and whites bathrooms and stuff like that so yeah so overall I really Greek experience I love my undergrad shout to my gammas hey y’all watching this turn up but anyways yes I had a really good time during undergrad at my sorority experience as being african-american was

Really good I never experienced racism or anything crazy like that Oh someone call me we don’t answer that later but yes so if you’re thinking about rushing or joining a shorty in your african-american and some non african-american sorority do it I mean if that’s what you wanna do don’t let

Anyone else’s opinions affect what you want to do in life because the NA this is what you want these are the next best four years of your life like you don’t want to be stuck with a group of girls that you’re not going to get along with

So that’s just my advice to you I hope you guys enjoyed this video if you want some more sorority related video and give this a thumbs up but hopefully you guys enjoy so let me know what you think in the comment section below a little link in the description box the link to

My sorority and all the extra stuff and then my furious sorority girl tag so make sure you go ahead and check that out but until next time guys I love you
