In truth I am ecstatic to be with you all this evening I want to thank my pastor for allowing me to share in Bible study As We Worship the Lord and we’re starting a new series it’s November 1st and Thanksgiving is right around the corner so we’re starting a be thankful
Series right come on let’s bless God for our pastor’s Vision be thankful and we have so much to be thankful for amen amen Thank You choir for bringing us in uh Zion songs if you could please open your Bibles to the book of Philippians chapter 1 we’re going to look at verses 3-
11 with an emphasis I guess you could say on verses 3-6 but we’re going to look at verses 3- 11 if you have it say amen amen let us pray gracious father we thank you for allowing us to come into your house one more time Lord we thank you that we can lift
Your name on high yes CU we know that you are high and exalted father God and so we love you and that’s why we’ve come to learn of you and to worship you and to get closer to you father because of how you’ve blessed us and been so kind
And so gracious and so loving and so forbearing and so forgiving and we could go on and on about your goodness but we just thank you for tonight allow us now Lord to draw nearer to the cross and to hear your word on tonight it’s in Jesus name we pray amen amen
Amen Philippians 1: 3- 11 and my Bible reads this way I thank my God every time I remember you and all my prayers for all of you I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now being confident of this
That he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus it is right for me to feel this way about all of you since I have you in my heart and whether I am in Chains or defending and confirming
The gospel all of you share in God’s grace with me God can testify how I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus and this is my prayer that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight so that
You may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ to the glory and praise of God this is the word of God thanks be to God you may be
Seated be thankful for his Joy friendship is essential to the soul and although I’m not GED I’ve never pledged in a fraternity that is the motto of the Omega Sci-Fi fraternity and friendship uh in a sense what they’re saying is that they share a common Bond uh a Brotherhood amongst each
Other well here in today’s text Philippians chapter 1 Paul is addressing his friends and family in the faith his brothers and sisters in Christ us and so as we look at the scriptures it’s evident that he knew the church in Philippi quite well by way of background Paul first
Went to Philippi during his second missionary journey primarily motivated by a vision that he received in traz where a Macedonian man implored him to come and help to share the gospel this Divine call inspired Paul to evangelize in Macedonia which eventually led him to Philippi but Paul’s work in Philippi is
Significant to each and every person in this room and anyone watching uh if you’re a Believer it’s significant because it was here where Paul uh did baptize a few early Believers but he was also incarcerated here and if you remember in Acts 16 him and Silas they were incarcerated and they were what
Praying and singing hymn to God and then of course the jail doors flew open and and we know the story that uh many the Jailer and many who were listening came to the faith so he made a great impact here at Philippi not only that of course
We can never forget Lydia the first European convert that made it possible for the gospel to cross continents and to come to us amen so you can see the work in Philippi is quite quite Rich here there’s a rich rich history between Paul and the Philippian church and so he writes in verses
3-5 he says I thank my God every time I remember you and all my prayers for all of you I always pray with joy because of your Partnership if you’re looking at the uh the NIV he says but your uh partnership in the gospel from this day
From the first day until now so in your handout Paul is thankful for the joy of Fellowship Joy of Fellowship you could also put partnership but we’re going to do that on the next one but he’s thankful for the Joy of Fellowship to be able to
Fellowship with one another so um and if you if you’re looking at the King James it says um it says Fellowship but the NIV says partnership but they’re interchangeable right they’re interchangeable so we are thankful if you’re looking at number one on the handout we are thankful for the joy of
Partnership and like I said fellowship and partnership they’re interchangeable when we truly Fellowship in the faith what we’re doing is we’re partnering together together for the furtherance of the Gospel amen here on planet Earth and there’s joy in doing that so there’s joy when you come to Christ
Amen uh uh does anyone quickly uh want to share the The Joy when they came into the knowledge of Jesus Christ your testimony if you will keep it brief for us tonight I know we all have every Christian has a testimony anybody want to share the joy
That you had when you came to Christ okay thank you I would simply just say you know knowing that all of my mistakes God takes them and turns them into something positive and that can encourage somebody else in this world thank you man thank you anybody
Else thank you for that yes God can take our mistakes and not only turn them into something positive but he just removes them he he just washes them away that that’s that’s that’s the that’s the good news right there anybody else want to share before I move on okay I’ll sh go
Ahead I know for me personally um I had grown up in the church from a young age and then um of course when I moved out of the house and went to college and got away I just kind of ran off and did my own thing but uh years and years went by
And finally I I just realized that you know life was supposed to be a whole lot different mhm and uh it almost felt a whole lot like uh prodical son mhm just out there doing my own thing and and and knew that life was supposed to be better
And um yeah I I knew from growing up always sitting in church on Wednesday night and church on all those other nights and and I just fell away from all that yeah and uh but God called me back I guess he spoke to me however and uh I
Was just came running back to make a change and things didn’t change in my life just just like that but the more that I found myself clinging and getting closer to God the the more I could feel that I was changing as I look back at
Time as time went by yeah amen amen thank you for that thank you so much yeah there’s joy when you come to Christ there’s joy when you join the church and begin serving in Ministry on fire for God partnering with God’s people with the right motives you should feel a
Sense of Joy because you’re not solely partnering and fellowshipping with each other but what we’re partnering and fellowshipping with God ultimately and so through our human experience and interactions glory to God but ultimately Jesus is our joy he’s our joy and he sticks closer than any brother and
That’s why he says I no longer call you servants but what friends and then what he says and then I’m going to make you joint HS you know so now we in the family we’re brothers and sisters with Jesus Christ for those who believe and so uh uh with that we’re partakers of
The promise and hes to an inheritance not made with human hands true Joy uh in your handout true Joy comes through humble faith in Christ Jesus and an extension of that Joy causes us to serve one another we should serve one partnering is serving so I have a question um
Hopefully you can answer this anybody want to share the joy that they had when they began serving in Ministry you found Christ you join the church Christ is coming to your heart you’re excited and now Christ Jesus said hey where you going where you going to
Work I’ve gifted you how you going to use that gift go ahead now tell me about your joy you got for Ser this is an easy one for me um for me that has always been my passion but when I got to The Church Without Walls it became almost
Like um it was pulling me it was not me pulling and and having to do it God was calling me to different things but the joy that I feel when serving it reminds me that I’m doing it not just for me but that I’m actually helping build the
Kingdom up and I’m helping to bring others to Christ through my service and whether it’s women’s ministry the choir um and the carigma actually not carigma it’s the fellowship for the women’s ministry when you do the Bible study classes it gives me a greater purpose because I’m not just sitting in in the
Pew anymore I actually look forward to giving back some of the things that he’s given to me because I can’t repay him but I can give him my time and my service and for me that’s that’s actually helpful it lets me know no matter what we give so much of our time
To everything else but to serve God it is more rewarding for me I’m not trying to buy my way into heaven but I can at least give back some of the things that he’s given to me absolutely thank you thank you thank you anybody else the joy
That they felt when they began serving in Ministry all right yeah everybody should be standing up about talking about the joy serving I would say when I started well yeah I’ve been in church my for the most part of my life um and when I moved to Houston started looking at
Churches the church the churches that I was interested in of course including Balo they were big churches and they felt so intimidating but when I got active in the church it made me feel so good because it made the church seem smaller yeah and it it you guys just became my
Family away from home and that just brings me joy my closest friends that I have in my life today are like my sisters they are my sisters and that’s what brings me joy just having them in my life from now majority of my life and through all the things that I’ve been
Through in my life I have sisters that I can call on every day yeah and that brings me joy and I I met through through the the church amen thank you for sharing that I was just going to church with my mother it’s like she didn’t go to church I didn’t go to
Church and I would just go sitting in the pews and one Sunday the minister said do you want to join the ushers my mother said no and and the minister said you got to let her grow you not going to be with her always and I joined the
Usher Ministry and I became another family and I’ve been enjoying the ministry of ushering joyfully since amen amen anybody go ahead my sister um my joy um since I have you know just joined a church I’ve been on and off but I fully just joined like a
Few months ago like as a usher and everything but since I just been coming to this church I just felt so much love um my grandparents are here but everybody that I met is like family aunts and uncles and everything like that and it just inspired me to not just
Minister and have a family here I made a family outside of that where there’s people come to me that don’t know God but I’m showing it and I’m I’m like I’m hyped for I’m hungry for Lord so I’m telling people about it and people that
Just kind of ran away from God I said no God loves you he’s going to accept you so the joy of this having this big family has made it like she said smaller and I and that’s my joy I just love I want to tell everybody about him so we
Can have a kingdom so we can everybody can go to that kingdom yes so I can I can I can feel your joy way over there hey let me get some of that I I got the same Joy you got anybody else go ahead brother yeah use your
Voice I already know you you singing for the Lord thank you um so I joined um the choir maybe a year-ish after I graduated from college um at that time in my life I was looking I I I gr grown up in church but um I had never really gotten
Active and so joining the choir was my first Ministry experience of my entire life um but there’s just something about being a part of worship that is what gives me joy knowing that um we’re you know we’re on the you know the stage stage but we’re joining our voices with the
Congregation um all of us collectively worshiping God on a Sunday morning and that just yeah gives me so much joy it’s because it’s like like you said he’s worthy to be praised so being a part of that worship and praise gives me joy praise God and you’re doing an excellent
Job man thank you for blessing us with your gift and your talent um anyone else I’m not rushing um yeah I wanted to say that the um joy and serving in Ministry I actually serve on angel tree and that has actually allowed me to um interact with many children as well as their
Parents and the joy that I get in in serving is um seeing seeing the the happiness in children’s faces and also um bringing them to Christ but as well as uh their caregivers at at the time of you know Thanksgiving and and mostly obviously Christmas um you what has made
Me realize is you don’t realize how many people are paying attention to you with the church in the size that it is as many have said it makes you realize that it doesn’t feel so big but as you’re moving around you’re not always certain that you make a difference in people’s
Lives but when they come up and and see you and and say something to you that that brings me joy to know that just from this a small act of kindness or uh giving them some encouragement yeah they remember that and and they remember you absolutely that’s Joy thank you my
Sister yeah I mean we all need encouragement uh but but the joy that we have in serving I mean uh it’s the joy the Bible says it’s uh unspeakable right you almost can’t articulate the joy that we have in Christ Jesus and so um thank you all for sharing that and and the
Point of me bringing that up because he says here he says that he has Joy because of their partnership because they’ve been working together and so I challenge each and every person person in here if you’re not involved in a Ministry I I pray that you would search
Your heart and and please get involved we need your help we have so many we got over 95 Ministries here uh and we need decision time we need uh uh first in prayer we need greeters we need parking lot I mean you know we come back from
Coid everything is starting to get back into order and there is room and place for everybody amen amen so Search Your Heart uh God will show you where you should be also you can also go by your spiritual gifts assessment let me let me move on verse six uh he says being
Confident of this that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus there’s joy in confidence if you if you have your your hand out there’s joy in confidence let me give you an example of a joyful
Confidence say we I was in the gym shooting basketball with Steph Curry okay and and and I said hey Steph whoever makes the most three-point shots in a row has to pay for lunch he would light up with a what a joyful confidence not only is he GNA
Light me up making all these shot but he GNA light up because he know he he going to win right chances are you know so so that’s how it should be for us as Believers that we ought to be lighting up we ought to be the light of the world
World right we we we’re walking around with the good news inside of us and so we ought to have a joyful confidence in the hope of glory in Jesus and so we as Believers are confident we’re confident that one day we’re going to get up from the Grave Just Like Jesus did we’re
Going to have a new body and there’s going to be a new Heaven and a new Earth because the Bible tells us so and we can look at God’s track record of of excellence and and Perfection and and fulfilling all of the prophecy phes and and and so um we have a joyful
Confidence that’s what it looks like that that we are expecting we have a joyful confidence in Christ Jesus and so we are thankful for the joy of knowing god is at work in us that’s number two that we know that God is at work in us
Because the scripture tell us and so we take confidence and understanding that God is not done with us yet amen doesn’t matter how young doesn’t matter how old middle it doesn’t matter God is not done with you as long as you still have breath in your body God has a purpose
For you and and and and there’s a reason you still here amen amen amen so that joyful confidence that oh so knowing is the basis of our confidence that we know we know what Christ has done what he said and we’re trusting in that we have
A joyful confidence so the basis of our confidence is that and so that joyful confidence we have is hope the joyful confidence that we have is Hope and so we are thankful for that for for the for the joy of Hope and so let me explain that
Verse six being confident of this that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus so we’re confident joyful confident that he who began a good work is going to what finish it right and then until the day of Christ
Jesus we have a joyful confidence that he’s coming back that’s the hope that we have that he’s going to return and so we’re joyful about that um Can somebody read for me Romans 12 and 12 and then I need someone else while they’re look up 2 Corinthians 1 and 7
Romans 12 and 12 be joyful in Hope patient in Affliction faithful in prayer amen be joyful in Hope 2 Corinthians 1:7 so we are thankful for the joy that we have in hope that God is working everything out for our good until he returns go ahead 2 Corinthians 1 and7 and our consolation
And salv and I hope is of you is steadfast knowing that you are partakers of the suffering so shall you also be also of the consolation right and so that word consolation is comfort and so in 2 Corinthians 1:7 uh if you look at the Amplified it says and our hope for
You our joyful and confident expectation of good for you is ever unwavering it’s it’s unsh shaken it’s it’s a solid foundation for we know that just as you share in our partners in suffering you also share in our partners in in comfort and and so that’s the hope that we have
And so Paul is saying he who created you God who created you knew you before you were formed in your mother’s womb designed you with a purpose and a plan and a destiny that same God who did all of that is going to finish what he started amen he’s going to finish what
He started in you and it’s a good work he started in you and he will see it until completion until the day of Jesus Christ that’s our joyful hope verse S it is right for me to feel this way about all of you since I have you in my
Heart here here we here we find uh uh the location of our joy joy is found in our heart it’s in our heart uh we’re thankful for the joy that’s in our heart we know it’s not found in in our circumstances right especially the writer here Paul he’s in prison when he
Pins this letter to the Philippians and so he’s in jail when he pins the letter but he says that he’s writing with joy in jail but joyful he better than me I don’t know about I know y he better than me I’ll be like God I I’m out here
Preaching teaching trying to help people and and and and this the thanks that I get I’m in jail in chains for the gospel but Paul didn’t look at it like that no no even though he was in Chains he was always free this is how it all will turn out and
Chains Joy is found in our heart and we see that evented in scripture we see all through scripture Isaiah you know I’m going to read it Isaiah 661 through2 it says uh that heaven is my throne and the Earth is my foot stol Where is the house
That you will build for me where will my resting place be has not my hand made all these things so they came into being declares the Lord right so go God is saying where am I going to rest where where am I going to live where am I
Going to be where should I hang out he created everything where’s he going to where’s he going to hang out acts 7:48 this is Steph’s speech to the Sanhedrin he would regurgitate the words of the prophet Isaiah by reminding the counsel that God has no Des desire to
Live in houses made by human hands instead he prefers to take up residence inside of the human heart and that’s where Joy is found wherever Jesus is I mean and once God comes into your heart we are overwhelmed with an inexpressible Joy the Bible describes it as
Unspeakable and I like that because it’s a type of joy that you really can’t fully articulate in the English language you can try but that won’t really uh convey the joy that we have that there’s no condemnation in Christ that we are just Grace Just partakers of grace and
Mercy that that we’re going to be joint HS that that we’re going to have access to the kingdom of God that we’re going to live forever and ever with him worshiping him like we don’t deserve it and so the fact that he gives it to us by
Faith just Joy you just you don’t know what to do with yourself I all right glory to God y’all help me this y’all help me tonight and so um like I said delivered rescued cared for protected loved all of that when you come into relationship with Jesus Christ what a wonderful change in
My life has been rought since Jesus came into my heart since Jesus came into my heart floods of Joy oh my soul like the sea Billows roll since Jesus came into my heart that’s where Joy is wherever Jesus is he’s our joy you remember in John Chapter 2 his first miracle a
Wedding at Canaan Galilee some newly wees had a crisis on their hands cuz the wine had run out wine in that day was a symbol for Joy so so when the wine ran out essentially the party was over the joy had run out they would have been disgraced
Right but wherever Jesus is there’s joy and we know Jesus winked at the H2O and the water blushed back right and he turned water into wine wherever Jesus is there’s joy joy has to follow wherever Jes so when you invite Jesus into your heart if you’ve never done so when you
Invite Jesus into your heart Joy has to follow Joy is right there and so verse S continues he says he says uh whether I am in Chains or defending and confirming the gospel all of you share in God’s grace with me we are thankful for joy in
Grace The Joy that’s in Grace what is Grace God’s unmar favor over over your life in other words we’ve all sinned and fallen short of God’s glory therefore what we actually deserve is death hell and eternal damnation but God Lord but God instead decided to Sent His only begotten son
That whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life and because of his sinless sacrifice we get joy peace hope forgiveness Mercy patience eternal life Grace I could just keep going we’re thankful for Grace Jean franu gravet AKA The Great blondon is most known for walking across
The Niagara gorge on a tight rope he would draw crowds of over 25,000 people and he would accomplish the feet some 300 times in impressive fashion suspended about 190 ft in the air he would cross over carrying a table and a chair while stopping to eat a piece of
Cake he cooked a omelette I mean he was just showing out he was an amazing acrobat and he never fell off the Rope not one time was it ever recorded that he fell and I got to thinking that’s a good story but real life is not like that um
We fall off the Rope sometimes and I know for me personally in my Christian experience my Christian walk sometimes it feels like I’m balancing on a tight roope family and work and uh uh you know Financial whatever whatever’s going whatever you know Health uh family members uh everything that’s going on it’s
Sometimes it feels like we’re balancing on a tight rope um but but thanks be to God that when we fall not if we fall but when we fall off the tight rope of Life thanks be to God that we have a Grace net to catch us to catch us to redeem us to
Save us and to bring us joy there’s joy in Grace glory to God and once God comes into our heart we are over whelmed by his Amazing Grace how sweet the sound that saved a rich like me yes my sister yeah I’m I’m I’m there now Grace comes through faith yeah Grace comes
Through faith we’re saved by grace through faith so Grace comes through faith and then hope comes from Grace um Romans 5:2 says by whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand and we Rejoice we’re joyful in Hope of the glory of God it’s right there in I’m
Not making this up it’s in scripture I want y’all to think I’m just making this up I’m going try to show you in the scriptures no no I know bless your heart uh we are also thankful for the joy of God’s deep affection that’s say verse 8
That’s say verse 8 uh he says God um Can testify how I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus he describes it as the affection of Jes the joy of God’s deep affection for us he’s affectionate towards us just like uh I
Am with with my children my boys I I just love them and kiss them and uh you know I just I’m just all over them right it’s just an affection that’s how God is with us God has affection towards us because he loves us and we are precious
In His sight we’re precious to him there was a gentleman in Conneticut who was looking through some low priced items at a garage sale when he ran across a floral Chinese antique bowl and he decided to purchase it for $35 and and and so he purchased it for $35 but he later
Discovered that it was worth over 700 ,000 $700,000 and so when I I said all that to say that we are valuable to God we are valuable we may not seem like that to to us cuz we like that bow it didn’t seem like much to them when you look at
It but it had great value and a lot of times we get down on ourselves for making mistakes or we look at ourselves not how not how God looks at we look at ourselves how the world looks at us you know how how other others view us but
But God is our judge God how does God view us that’s that is the most important uh opinion and and the only opinion that matters is what God has to say about you and you are valuable to God and I’m done we got to wrap up uh
We’re going to close now it says now we’re going to move towards an intimate prayer from Paul for the church and so he says verse 9- 11 and this is my prayer that your love may abound more and More in knowledge and depth of insight so that you may be able to
Discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ to the glory and praise of God we are thankful for Joy shared in Ministry that includes us we are thankful for Joy shared in
Ministry that includes us God includes us in verse n we are common in our compassion compassion we should be compassionate to our one another our love we we should should abound and and people should feel the love when they come into church on a Sunday morning because of because of each of you
