Christ and to reflect and rejoice upon the god-given institution that we have known as Brotherhood listen closely as we have a critical conversation with our special guest the moderator of our Central District Association Pastor Robert Drake senior of the New Covenant Baptist Church listen as he discusses

Baptist Church right here in Louisville Kentucky and he is also our moderator uh for the Central District Association and uh we have been looking forward to this uh this is our Brotherhood month Edition all right and so throughout this month uh the month of November it will be a
November to remember as we emphasize as we celebrate uh the phenomenon that we know as Brotherhood so I want to give a special shout out to all of our brothers at uh first G and certainly all the brothers that are watching this evening uh shout out to the sisters as well uh
But we are grateful uh we are grateful for uh the blessing uh that is Brotherhood and we’re excited about the conversation uh that we’re going to have today uh with Pastor Drake Pastor Drake thank you for being here today glad to be here man glad to be here yeah yeah
We’re excited been looking forward to this as I said before uh tell me Pastor Drake I think you you said uh you’re from Newberg right are you from Newberg Newberg yes sir okay okay so I’m I’m new to I’m new to Louisville but Newberg area that’s tell me a little bit about
Your your upbringing at Newberg Newberg Newberg Newberg is like a settlement of people who came from the West End and moved out this way my parents did my parents lived in place called little Africa they called it gotcha and down in park Duval area and they moved out here
And settled out this way and I mean out that way rather and we’ve been out that way ever since I actually still live out that way still there yes still there so we we’ve got a HomeTown boy yes sir Hometown brother uh here uh with us

This broadcast and uh I promise you uh it’s going to bless somebody else all right all right so Pastor Drake we always get started the same way we are uh creatures of of habit here and uh um one of the things we do to get the conversation started on each episode is
We do what we call um you know word count word count uh it came from my mom when I first got here um you know got here to the Church of course because of the pandemic nobody’s there uh but everybody’s at home uh watching and listening more intently uh
To what was being said more probably in in the history of all of our churches during that season everybody was on the sick and shut in list everybody was listening the whole church the whole church the whole church listening uh to was being said so Mom Mom said it in in
These words every word counts she wanted to remind me every every every single word counts and so uh what we want to do is just share maybe a a word or a phrase and you could tell us uh briefly but in a blessed way in your own way uh what
What comes to mind when you think of that phrase or word all right okay sounds good all right so let’s do it um the cross the cross what comes to mind when I think of the Cross first thing comes to mind is Jesus and what he did
For us yes sir what he did for us I think about how he was how the song say stretched him wide and H him high yes sir laid his head and then he died I think of those things because he didn’t have to do it for me yes sir but he did
But he did even for a richet like me yes sir yes sir yes sir I love it I love it um the black church the black church where do I start uh let me see the black church when I think of the black church I think of History I think
Of strength I think of how we made it through so many challenges and we still making it through challenges you look at the start of the black church where it came from to where it is today we’ve come a mighty long way and I believe it’s because of that same cross that we
Have that strength we have that energy that keep makes us keep keep going not giving up I’ve seen instances as of late I say preco where things were starting to kind of fall off a little bit but then I seen Co hitting when Co
Hit I think Co gave us a new energy yeah especially when we got to come back we got to come back to church I think it gave us a new a new look outl on things yes sir and I think of the black church I think of strength I think of
Resilience yes sir yes sir we made it yeah we made it we we’re making it I put it like that we haven’t we haven’t arrived but but we making it yeah we make it I love it yes sir yes sir that’s good um Central District association yes sir
I think of missions MH I I believe the the the Central District was started for Mission work you know we we serve a un underserved Community we serve a community where people don’t have a lot yeah some do some don’t you know but I I
I think of missions I think of more than just having glorified church services I think of what we can do for the community as more is bigger than than just going to church yeah you have a Association of churches coming together and working together you can get more
Things done and that’s what I’m trying to do as moderator for the district is bring our churches back together back together so we can work to serve the underserved yeah that’s what it’s about yeah it’s about and I I know for me that um man what you said is a mouthful
But it’s a breath of fresh air uh because I think so many of us you know uh your your dad was a pastor PR so you know we’ve grown up in this and sometimes it’s like well well well what’s the point of our gathering if we’re not going to do
Anything as far as going exactly exactly and I think that that that’s true because when you just gather churches don’t need a district to just gather come on we can gather at our own churches yes sir sir but we be stronger when we’re together to help
Those who are in need of help and that’s what it’s about yeah and your your vision um you know you’ve shared uh quite a bit with me um but but I’m excited because it’s not the stereotypical or what has become the conventional District Association it is
Really going back to what you just said and not coming together to have church but coming together to actually be the church exactly and I’m certainly excited about uh your leadership and as I told you before uh a lot of people may not even know uh you’re not just a pastor
You’re you’re not just a moderator you’re a barber too uh so so he’s the one that’s keeping me together keeping me and Junior together uh but one of in our talks even in the barber shop you you have shared your vision even more and I just want to let you all know uh
That that we got you we first she is excited about this season and you along with your uh Vice moderators uh we we can’t wait to see what God’s going to do with you yeah yeah this is going to be a good season um Church hurt Church hurt
What what comes to mind Pastor when I think of church hurt I think of people who you thought was going to stay with you but in the end when it got a little rough they were gone no nowhere to be found nowhere to be found that’s that’s real Church HT people people describe
Church HT in different ways I heard people talk about church HT because somebody said something wrong to them somebody didn’t let them be in certain Min a certain Ministry or be no it’s bigger than that bigger than that it’s bigger than that than I think it’s when you feel you have
The world behind you and you turn around and nobody’s there wow but that go back to the Cross yeah yeah yeah and that resilience and that the black church keeps you going you know that keeps you moving keeps you going cuz it’s not about that you you have to look and see
The bigger the bigger picture but that that hurting to me is when you somebody say they going to be with you all the way and you turn around and yes sir they gone yes sir as a pastor I’m sure you’ve experienced that yourself well that’s
What I was going to say you know a lot of times when we hear that phrase that terminology we tend to have a perspective that is a a parishioner kind of problem right exactly exactly but wherever you go people are going to always be people uh human beings are
Always going to be found Being Human and so whether you are a pastor or a parishioner uh you’re going to have to experience in this life you going you are you are I think we all have some church if you’re doing anything if you’re doing anything yeah yeah that’s
Good so you know if you’re not doing anything um you won’t go through anything uh but for those that are serious about the Savior and are willing to deny themselves pick up their cross and follow him you’re going to experience that kind of suffering and and challenge along the way what would
Be a word of encouragement um and you know I always want to you know not just outline time the symptom but to give some encouragement as far as solution and healing uh what would you say to someone that might be watching even on this evening and has experienced some church hurt I would
Say first of all look at the big picture don’t don’t settle in on Small Things yes sir uh pastor Pastor Russell Al Russell aler he he used to have a a newspaper item in the article in the American Baptist paper and it was always said keep the main thing to
And I think if we keep the main thing the main thing I think it will work out better cuz you won’t be bothered with with that mess and if it does happen you still got to keep the main thing the main thing you know it’s just like uh uh
I I lose example you lose your job but your bills are still due right so the main thing is I’m not working here anymore right but my bills are still do yeah I still have to pay my bills so I got to keep the main thing I still have
Children I still have a household to take care of so I got keep the main thing the main thing and the same thing in church mhm I believe in in the church world you have to keep the main thing the main thing well we just talked about
The cross yeah keep keep the cross yeah before you yeah always reaching you know for what’s better sir and if something happens and gets in your way still keep keep reaching I was just thinking uh uh about uh Peter Peter and James I think it was when they were uh got locked up
They were in prison yeah yeah and they said they they arrested them for troubling the city that’s what they said they were doing yeah yeah now how many of us get in trouble for troubling the city think about that yeah how many of us actually trouble the city trouble the
City yeah yeah so a lot of times understand this I’m going back to the other the church Earth piece too yeah where if you don’t receive any trouble you must not be giv any but when you are doing something that that Satan doesn’t like that those naysayers don’t like
When you’re doing those things then you going to run into some some trouble I like that can we can we put that in the comment section if you’re not how do you say if you’re not giving any trouble you’re not going to receive it you’re not going to receive any trouble uh
Somebody to put trouble to City yeah trouble trou City that’s what we need to be doing trouble in the city that’s what we need to be doing yes sir so if you have experience that church hurt Pastor is encouraging us today to to keep the main thing the main thing and uh you
Know in other words you’re telling them to to focus and concentrate on the real work yeah what’s important what’s important important yeah and and one of the things I had um said um a few Sundays ago um or more recently um was that faith will get you started but
Focus will keep you steady you know faith will get you started but Focus will keep you steady and is what you’re saying is that you just concentrate on what’s really important um although we’re grateful uh that people are in the church ultimately it’s not people that should be driving that’s right that’s
Right yeah it’s our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ so that’s good stuff Pastor thank you somebody ought to be encouraged today even though you may be dealing with some church can over re Reverend Jackson preached at my church yesterday ner you know ner yeah yeah yeah for sure and ner
Said we have faith in ourselves but we don’t have faith in The Giver of Faith so if you put your faith where it belongs yeah things are going to work out not good all the time yeah but it’s going to be more good than bad you know
I’ve seen I’ve had some bad days yes sir you know but we got to keep the main thing the main thing keep keep moving ahead keep keep going keep going let me just tell you uh look we we welcome preaching you you go ahead doc we we’ll
Put you in E Flat in everything you know look we we we love it now that’s that’s good stuff that’s good stuff um let’s let’s talk about uh the the word uh Brotherhood what what comes to mind when you think of Brotherhood when I think of Brotherhood I think of of
Men working together arm in arm hand in hand yeah doing God’s will yes sir I I I think we as as men we have and I put myself in the category too because I was once there but I think we as men have fallen off and we’re not
The head anymore wow does that make sense wow yeah I I I think we as men need to be men you know I I believe God placed the order at a certain way for a certain reason yeah you know a man his his bone structure is different than a
Woman you know what I mean his his strength is stronger than a woman should be anyway and and when it he did that for a reason yeah God don’t just do stuff just to be doing it I think he did it for a reason I think that if we use
What we have Stand Together the world can see men standing together see Brothers standing together then you see some things begin to happen not not that it don’t happen with women I’m not this women I’m not I’m not discrediting you don’t cancel them I’m not discrediting
You but but I I think if when men stand up and be men yeah and brothers together you know not against each other but together together you know you look at uh uh uh the Muslim faith yeah look at the Muslim faith and you see I watched
This movie the other night the Malcolm X movie and you see how when they went it was in front of that jail that Courthouse where they were out there oh yeah and and and the police said this man had too much too much power and he’s
Got too much power why because those men were where that’s right together together look at look at the the the the na and AA narcotics anomis alcoholic anomis yeah the Brotherhood that they have you know cuz they’ve all been somewhere together they’ve been lost they’ve been but now they’re found that’s right so
Now they’re in a different position in life and you see people who’ve been clean for 30 and 40 years still go to meetings m that’s Brotherhood they’re not going to the meeting because they fearful they going to take a drink or they fearful they’re going to go get
High they they’re going to the meetings for Brotherhood that Bond yeah that’s it that’s it strong together we’re stronger together than we are a part I don’t think a lot of us men our younger men they’re not realizing that they they’re so much against each other yeah but I I
Think when we get to the point where we can realize that and get get there and get our men in our churches you know in our district Amen to to do this and come together with this I I I believe that we going to see a stronger front you know we going
To see a stronger some people standing together and doing some things getting some things done I love what’s going on at the first C Church praise God I see everything that’s going on believe me I I’m a social media Hound I watch I see everything you know I watch Church all
Week long sir you know I see things going on and I’m I’m I’m glad to see these things going God you know new new guys in town you know it don’t matter where you’re from it’s where you at you know what I mean that matter I think
When we come together together oh my God God’s going to do some great things around this place and it’s needed yeah it’s need not just in the city of Lille it’s needed everywhere that’s right but when we stand together together it’s awesome scripture says uh how good and
Pleasant is it for brothers to gather or to dwell together in unity and you know one of the things as you were talking I’m thinking like wow what a day that’s going to be when we put aside our pride and our ego and feel secure Even in our insecurities and really come together
And partner together uh for the sake of our families uh for the sake of our community for the sake of the church and um you know I always say Well only God can stop us when we’re together that’s right right you know you think about the Tower of Babel and although um there
There is much to critique in that text but one of the the the points of good news is that they were actually going to be successful yes and building this tower all the way to the heavens they were together doing they were together doing it and Only God himself could have
Stopped us that’s right yeah not not any naysayers not any critics um no one on this earth when Brothers come together in unity only God can stop us right cuz somebody put that in the comments only God can stop us only God so that’s that’s why I’m really so excited um as
Well Pastor is that you know even when thinking of our Central District uh thinking of our churches uh thinking of all of the um you know city of Louisville is blessed with a whole lot of entities uh that are really serious about doing the work especially with our
Young people um I think what you’re telling us uh in so many words with Pastor Drake is telling us is what our theme is for our men’s day is man up that that that is our theme man up uh that that God is looking for um not just
Good men but Godly men uh to really stand up and stand in the gap uh for for so many that need it so be an example be an example example because we got a lot of young guys coming up who might not have that example yes sir yes sir but if
They can see some men standing together be like wow even a child yeah can be like I want to be a part of that I want look I want to be a part of I looked at uh Sunday school lesson yesterday Josiah here Josiah becomes king at 8 years old
Yes sir at 8 years old he has a feeling a tinkling inside of his mind and his heart that what we’re doing is not right talk talk he he didn’t know he didn’t he he he he didn’t never meet Hezekiah his great I think it was his great-grandfather yes his Grand
Great-grandfather was Hezekiah he knew his two his grandfather and his father they were wicked men but something was inside of him something on the inside something was inside of it yeah and and due to the fact here I go but due to the fact due to the fact that they they he
Ordered them to clean up the temple yeah yeah let’s get our business straight that’s right and they clean up the temple what did they find yeah the book of the law he looked at this said we’ve been doing this all wrong sir somebody read this to me we’ve been doing this all
Wrong all wrong he put together that’s where we at now we need to get together come together yes sir take the word yeah see what the word says that’s right and do it yeah and do it and do it that’s what he done yes sir changed the whole
The whole nation oh yeah 8 years old yeah 16 years I think he was he was a king for like 30 years 33 years or something like that changed the whole the whole out look on things you know did did Israel go back again yes but right then and there he brought he
Brought about a change Reformation he he did it yes sir he did it yes sir a young man and and the thing about it is um God is still the same we’re the ones that have changed and same God that did it back then is the same God that can do it
Now uh let me just say this uh I feel preachment on him and it it’s all right with me this this is my moderator right here this is my moderator hands down uh we we got a lot of drop to make moments right already uh but no this is this has
Been good this has been good so we we can we can do it we can do it you know and I’m excited about that especially as you said for for our young men for our young men you know if if you were to you know give some advice to your your
Younger s um and I’m I’m saying this for the sake of our young brothers that are watching we’re grateful uh that they have connected in many ways to this ministry uh what what would be a piece of advice that you would share find you a mentor yeah yeah find you a mentor a
Strong Mentor some Mentor somebody that’s gonna show you the right way even if they’re not doing it exactly right they can show you show you the right way find you somebody that’s strong somebody that keeps the main thing the main thing yeah and and I I found that I had it in
My and my dad my dad my father was with me all my life he passed away in 99 yes sir and my father passed in 99 and then God put another man in my life Wow and my father taught me how to be a man mhm
He was was a minister as well but at home he was Daddy yeah church he was pastor but at home he was daddy that’s right and and and I didn’t pay attention too much at church that I did at home so he he helped me become a man yeah but
Then after that God put somebody else in my life somebody didn’t mind telling me you know don’t do this don’t do that you’re wrong for that don’t do this don’t do that and and I’m I was blessed for that yeah uh my my Ministry is all the stronger because of that not that
It’s perfect but it’s stronger than it would be and R Thurman colan Thurman Coman was a big factor in my life he’s he’s big factor in my life his legacy lives you know I I never of course I I never got a chance to meet him but upon
Arriving here you know you know how it is when you get to a new place you’re you know I’m I’m I’m a lifelong learner and one of the things I just want to learn Louisville and especially when it comes to our churches and his name is always lifted so high still still right
Now now he pastored First Baptist Church Jefferson to town okay and I believe I think you told me um Dr Walker he was he was there as well yeah yeah so and actually my predecessor was there as well was there as well got you got sounds yeah um a lot of ministers I
Think that came in to go to school yeah they look for churches yeah and First Baptist was one of the places that a lot of them got you got you got you Coleman did he teach at the school no he didn’t teach he was like the dean of preachers
Though how the SE tell of Louisville yeah yeah there we go there we go what he was yeah yeah what he what an awesome Legacy what an awesome Legacy um look let me ask you this so and we we kind of pretty much gotten into it but just just
Go a step further you know when you consider pretty much the portrait if of what a good man is you know just kind of looking at all the variables uh the intangibles uh what is needed and necessary to really be a good man especially in this season in time you
Know what are some of the things that that come to mind when it comes to being that good man first I would say God has to be first in your life that’s good yeah you have to have God first love God yeah love your family yeah be the the
The man in your household that you supposed to be and then you have to love those who some consider to be unlovable you have to be able to reach out and touch that’s good those who who are not uh how what’s the word I’m looking for I’m not going to call them
Undesirable yeah but but but someone that might not reach out to you yeah you know what I mean you might have to reach out to them I I I think that’s all a part of being a man think think back over your life and think about how many
People I mean we do it a lot cuz we’re ministers but think of someone who who has not a preacher M but has helped change the life of someone yeah that they don’t even know don’t even know yeah yeah think about that yeah think about that I I heard re W speak about
That today about Mr yeah a lot of people that he never even knew their name mhm he had influence on them wow you know and I think as a and probably didn’t even realize didn’t even realize just being himself yeah being being a a man
Being a a real a real brother I think being a real brother that that that brings Brotherhood that’s that’s Brotherhood sir that’s Brotherhood right there and and then you showing like I was talking about the example earlier you showing yeah this is what it’s about
This is how we this how we have to do how we’re going to grow I’m I’m excited man for the things that are about to happen yeah yeah yeah I I feel like we were saying earlier I feel a shift yes sir you shift it might be a change you
Know necessarily sometime change is necessary yeah absolutely absolutely mean is necessary so I I I believe we I feel that coming that’s going to happen through us through the men through the men wow through the men through the men and really kind of returning in many
Ways to Our Roots and um and one one of the things I think about is you know God knows uh if it hadn’t you know without our sisters oh you know our our churches especially would not be our world really but it specifically the church would not
Be where it is today um we honor our sisters we affirm them we thank them but um one of the things that comes to mind is that especially in certain seasons of the church um you know and even looking at our families um sisters shouldn’t
Have to work so hard no you know there there ought to be you know what we see in uh the beginning the Book of Genesis there was a partnership but there also was the level of of leadership and not leadership in the way of being domineering but leadership in the way of
Being a protector a provider uh a good partner and um you know I wonder if you could just speak to that you know we’ve kind of in many ways kind of you know and this is generally speaking because we do know some good Brothers yes you
Know but you know is there something you would just say to challenge a brother that you know that you know maybe is not quite there but I still believe in the potential of all of our men I I I believe in the potential of uh that that
Young father I believe in the potential of that that teenager that’s trying to really find out who they are I believe in the potential of um all of our men um that that may be struggling in this season to be all that God’s called them
To be but we’ve all been there yes we’ve all been there and you know just a word of encouragement maybe for someone that may be watching keep keep going keep going yeah don’t stop don’t stop when it seems like the world is against you yeah yeah keep going keep going when when the
Wind is blowing in your face yeah keep keep going cuz you know what’s right yeah and and when long as you know what’s right you ought to do my daddy always always should tell me it’s always the right time to do what’s right yes sir it’s easier to do what’s what’s
Wrong mhm but if you keep keep going in in the face of adversity whatever’s in your way keep going be strong be strong and when it gets a little rough that’s when you need that Mentor yeah you reach out to somebody you can talk to somebody
And and I’m I’m going through this I’m going through that and somebody needs to be there to encourage you but find that Mentor but don’t give don’t give in I love it in don’t give in I love it you know to persevere man up to man
Up he said it man up somebody put it in the comments man up man and and the thing about it is is you know I love how you ended that especially you’re like there will be moments that you just can’t do it by yourselves and things get hard and
Burdensome and discouraging and that’s why it’s important to really tap into uh this blessing that God has given us called Brotherhood sir like uh you know there you know that that piece of literature that says He Ain’t Heavy He’s My Brother you know to to know that you
Have people around you um that don’t look at you as competitors but but rather C- laborers that’s not looking at you as a threat but a part of the team you know and we know um that everybody in this life will not cheer you on but your brother will
That’s right we we know that everybody in this life no matter what the thing about it is we’ve got brothers in Christ we’ve got Brothers in our family uh we’ve got Brothers in fraternity but the beauty of Brotherhood is that no matter how far you fall and even if you’ve
Offended me in any way the the beauty of Brotherhood is that we always find our way back that’s right together again you know we could not speak for months at a time but something about the phenomenon we call Brotherhood is that it always finds us back together again I’m sure
You have friends like I have friends that we don’t talk every day yeah yeah we don’t talk every month we don’t you know but when we do talk it’s like we pick up right off and and if we either one of us is going through something just pick up
The phone yeah just pick up the phone I I can see me now I’m text I’m in a funeral I’m going call you right back soon as I get out of here yes sir sir you know I’m I’m in a meeting uh somebody’s called me right now I’m I’m
In doing a podast I’m hit you right back soon as I get out of here because I know they not calling me for no that’s right you know nonsense okay so you must need something I got you yeah I got you like you got me you know like like like uh
You said something very interesting a few seconds ago mhm you said that we see potential in guys yeah yeah and we see what guys can be not what they are but we see what they can be they can be God seen that in US yeah he he’s seen he’s
Seen a potential in US yeah I’m not going to leave you where you are come on you know he came and got us he came came and got us came and got us I didn’t run to him yeah he came and got that is the
Gospel he came he came and got us sir you know and um and that’s that’s our elder brother that does that for us that’s Brotherhood that’s Brotherhood and we are called and compelled to do the same for somebody else go go get them that’s right go get your brother uh
But also one of the things in that going to get them aspect of things there’s a other side uh be willing to receive you know you don’t have to be this stronger than strong brother you don’t have to have it all lined up and all together no
We we’ve got to learn that we all have insecurities all have imperfections but the beauty of Brotherhood you know the Bible says love hides an abundance of faults and that Brotherly Love does just that and and so as you we said already there’s there’s potential in all of our
Brothers and it is our responsibility especially I would say I I don’t think there’s any brotherhood like the Brotherhood of the church it’s not you know uh it’s not brothers that are saved uh filled with his holy spirit brothers that are serious about the savior um there’s nothing like this Brotherhood that’s
Right I I thank God for Alpha F Alpha fraternity incorporate shout out to our guy nck Jackson you already mentioned him but there’s no better Brotherhood than a brother that comes into relationship with Jesus Christ and connects with other brothers that have the same heart Same Spirit and that
Oness this guy’s liit guy has the limit when you do that that’s real Brotherhood yeah it’s real Brotherhood when when you can call yeah okay I’m I’m going through something right now right yeah talk to me that’s right talk to me tell me what’s going on some sometime it’s just
An error it’s not your opinion yeah sometime it’s just in there some brother just need to let it out yeah you know you can’t let it out with everybody no no you can’t do it let out with and not be judged yeah exactly exactly a real
Brother you can cuz a real brother knows where he once was and who saved him yes sir so once you are saved not when you join church but when you are saved yeah that that’s the big part it’s a difference it’s a big difference it’s a big difference not when you’re baptized

It that’s it that’s what it’s about I love it I love it what it’s about so look so so we’ve said all that so so here here’s one thing that I I want to give some push back on there there’s this narrative that that really says church is really you know for the
Sisters and the children you know uh it’s um no place really you know for brothers and and we have seen you know down through the years um that there has been somewhat of a disconnect uh especially you know you mentioned um watching Malcolm X um and you know of
Course Nation of Islam and they have done well in making a push in marketing and evangelizing I would say to towards um black men mhm um and so there there are some that look at our churches um and the Christian faith and and believe well that’s like a a woman child kind of
Thing what what would you say to that what would you say to that and and how can we really you know as we talk about this Brotherhood thing start start changing and challenging The Narrative I I think that’s been going on for centuries it’s always been a
Group that you know that’s not for for me as a young man myself uh sitting at home and watching football on Sunday rather than going to church on Sunday yes sir my family would go yeah I would stay home I W and that was after being
Raised in the church yeah so so you know I’ve been on both sides of it yes sir but but when you really look at this thing when you really look at it’s really for the real man because the real man is going to do what’s not comfortable does that make
Sense no that’s good that’s really good you know the real man’s gonna Step Go A Step Beyond yeah it’s easier to sit at home and say they sissies for going to church yeah you know excuse my French but y know what I’m saying that’s easy
To do yeah but the hard part is to go on and take that step and go on and go the hard part is to walk in the door with your with your bride know walk in the door sit with your children that’s that’s the hard thing to do so real man
Talk man real man know how to worship yes sir real man know how to come real man know how to do you know that’s the that’s that’s what I think we don’t really get enough of younger men don’t really get understanding in that and I think we
Need to be preaching more of that talking more about that you know let let them know it’s all right to do this you know I got a young man joined my church probably about few months ago his his daughter’s daughter’s daughter got blessed you know he’s wife his girlfriend they get
Married she was already a member so then he came he joined and now you know I do Bible study online he’s online every I’m like you know he’s on her asking questions I look who who’s sharing the Bible study it’s him it’s him it’s him yeah you know I’m I’m seeing this I’m
Seeing this in him and he’s seeing the fact that he needs to be here with this child you know he’s he’s he’s understanding this cuz all you have to do is sit around and look and see the ones that are not yeah look around see the ones that are not you see trouble
Yes sir you see the the divisiveness you see all these things going on because they’re not they’re not yeah you know and not saying it’s gonna be perfect when you do but it will be better it’ll be better it will be better it will be
Better I love what you said it you know uh for those that say that there’s no place uh or space for men in the church well you’ve challenged that narrative by saying church is really for Real Men Real Men yes sir Real Men Real Men yes sir that are um realizing that
There is a God somewhere that has created me on purpose for purpose and he is calling and compelling me to live out that purpose it takes a real man you said to show up to church it takes a real man to pick up his cross it takes a real man uh
To Father his children and raise them and the things of the Lord takes a real man to stand by your bride I I love it it’s easy to not to do it come on yeah yeah yeah I love watching many men are doing that yeah yes yeah yes but only
The few only ones that are what Manning up that’s right I love it I love it sir so so real men so we we are challenged tonight uh to really you know uh really reflect upon what kind of man am I yes yes what what kind of man am I and and
And don’t get me wrong here’s the interesting part you can be a good man without being a godly man I know a lot of good Brothers you know a lot of good Brothers they’re not godly they’re not godly and and but I would say the godly
Man is the real man you know as as you were challenging us to do and so I I want someone to hold on to that tonight I want someone to hold on tonight that uh as we have looked at this portrait of what being a good godly man is it’s you
Said putting God first loving your family uh denying yourselves living out your purpose these are things that it takes a real man to do and and we are going to keep on saying it it’s time for us to man up yeah we got to man up yeah
Be be what God has called you to be yeah yeah he didn’t call you to be a wimp he called you to be a man yeah yeah he he didn’t he spelled it m an for a reason yeah it’s not w m a an m n for a reason
I hear you for a reason yes sir yes sir that’s what we supposed to do that’s it that’s it it’ll make the world better yeah I I believe so it I believe so I believe you know as they used to say back in Day Jesus is still the answer
For the world today and if we are really committed to Christ and being the hands and feet of God um I believe and I I feel what you’re saying uh you said it earlier there you feel you sense that there is something getting ready to shift I feel it uh something getting
Ready to happen in our families in our churches in our communities and I believe that God I know this not just believe I know uh that God wants to use his men uh for Humanity’s good and for his glory yeah he’s going to do it it’s
A purpose it’s a purpose for it’s a purpose for that it’s a purpose we all have a purpose yes sir you figure out what it is but you got one yeah and I remember I remember growing up and seeing those Brothers in church um I I
Remember you know I I used to you know as much as I thank God for Dad um and shout out to Dad Dad has always been my pastor and um thank God for his image and I’m I’m I’m definitely he’s still my hero like you can test that but there
Were other men in the church as well I I was always impressed with the deacons you know you remember the deacons used to line up and Sir uh those brothers were sharp and would would would send up those prayers you remember they put the chair out in in the aisle and kneel down
And pray and and those deacons back in the day almost hoop better than the pastor in a prayer in a prayer they could man call God like nobody’s business man we we pull Heaven down uh ladies shouting when they pray you know what I mean man that yes
Sir the deacons those were the deacons and they would pray those prayers sing those songs but here’s what I loved about them they weren’t just men of God in public right right they were men of God in private because although they lined up in the front we also saw them
Serving yes in behind the scenes you know that they gave of their time their talent and their treasure and you know they were on the front lines of uh servant leadership they supported their Pastor uh they supported the vision of the church and they gave and as much as
You know their their spouse their sisters in Christ were a part of that they took great pride they did no matter who the pastor was yeah yeah they served through numbers of Pastor yes sir yes sir you know you you’re my pastor but you’re my pastor they were steadfast you
Know unmovable and you know it’s it’s um you know I believe there’s going to be a great Revival MH I believe there’s somebody you know even listening to us um you know listening to the pastor of new COV listening to the pastor of first
G um and and all the other churches I I really believe there’s going to be a great Revival when it comes to uh being men of God and putting God first and knowing that when you seek you first the kingdom of God then all these other
Things God is going to add to you you know you don’t you don’t have to feel like you’re losing something by giving something when you give God your best God is going to respond you I have found you can’t do anything for God and God
Not respond to you it it God’s the only one I know that can add by subtracting yeah yeah he can add by subtracting he can he can multiply cuz you know somebody’s out there saying well I don’t have time to do it Pastor I
Yes you do yes you do no no yes you do you have to make the time that’s right we make time for everything that’s come on we make time for everything that’s it you know yeah we do we definitely do I I I know I do yeah so I have to put him
First yeah if I’m going to make time for this yeah because people are watching yeah they they watching their Pastor yeah you know I’m going to say this maybe I shouldn’t but I’m going to say that at at at New Covenant Church when I first got to the church we had you know
You know how I used to be in the church you have all the chairs lined up across the pull pit all sociate ministers and all the the pastor sets in the big chair in the middle and all the first thing I did I think it was my
First probably month in New COV I moved the chairs out of the way oh no said that that’s over with and I moved all the ministers to the front row first bet mhm because I felt like I was being watched if I’m sitting in the pool pit
And I look this way everybody’s looking yeah yeah yeah yeah what’s he looking at it happens it happens I’m saying all that I’m I’m playing I’m joking but I’m I’m serious because they’re watching us M they’re watching the pastor they’re watching the deacons and they’re watching the men
Yeah so if the men this Brotherhood thing we talking about men stand up and they watching yeah all they waiting is for us to stand up and be the men suppos to be and once we do that it’s sky’s the limit sky the limit but they they waiting on us’re waiting women waiting
On us the waiting on us they they know they can only do so much so far yeah I’m not discrediting you don’t get me wrong don’t cancel I’m say it again y’all leave my moderator alone that’s a don’t mean nothing by it all right nothing don’t mean no ill intent but but when
The men stand up and be men yes sir yes sir and they see it cuz they wait they wait they waiting they watching that’s right and when they see this it’ll be contagious oh my God it’s going to be a you think the women are doing something
Now yeah yeah yeah wait to see what they do then I love it man and then at that point you it would be the family yeah that that’s leading the charge you know it used to be yeah so so look it’s it’s Brotherhood month we’re grateful this is
Our our first Brotherhood uh month and so all month long um we are looking forward to celebrating Brothers we’re looking forward to coming together we’re looking forward to having an awesome time looking forward to serving um our community as well and um we’re excited about our men’s day our men’s day is um
November the 26th at 10:10 a.m. uh we’ll have uh first Sunday school at 9:00 A.M Reverend Philip Pettis is going to be our teacher then we’ll at 1010 we’ll have our own Reverend Michael Wells and our our theme is man up and uh one of the things I’m excited about as well I
Don’t want to forget this we’ve got Revival Pastor Drake is going to be with us uh for Revival he’s ending our Revival our Revival goes from November the 14th through the 16th on the 16th uh at 6:30 he will be here uh to preach a word and we’re excited Brothers don’t
Forget right after uh service we’re we’re headed to DAV and Busters uh to watch the Bengal uh play the Ravens uh that that is the Bengal of Cincinnati uh playing the Baltimore Ravens Brotherhood yeah this for Brotherhood for Brotherhood you know so we’re we’re excited about this month so it’s it’s
Brotherhood month and one of the things I want us to do um is before before we go pastors really to could you could you think about you know where you are today and and I love how you’ve been so transparent tonight you you weren’t always where you are yes you know and
That God has done a great work in you but God has especially used men that he has strategically he strategically planted them yes and purposed them to mold you and shape you into the man you are today uh is there anyone you want to lift up or a few brothers that come to
Mind uh when you think about who helped make you and mold you into the phenomenal man of God you are today of course I I said my dad yeah Reverend erl William Drake Senor yes sir uh my mentor Reverend uh Thurman Coleman yeah and I also like to look lift up Rend Philip
Lindsay hodj senior he’s the pastor at Fifth Street yeah yeah you know it was when I was going through a rough patch MH and my father had passed and I was in the church in the church not in the church in the church not in the church
And I accepted my call into the ministry I believe I was really fighting it mhm cuz I didn’t want to do it but you know it just was a calling on my life you know some people get called some people just go and I wasn’t going to be one of
The ones that just go I know that’s right so God had to let me know yeah yeah yeah he had to make me sure that’s what he wanted right so he did and I remember the day exactly I was uh Reverend Ballinger was our Pastor Walter
B ww Ballinger great man too he helped me out in this life as well and that morning I accepted my call into the ministry MH mhm and I’m like wow okay so he comes to me right after service and he said uh I’m not feeling
Well today I’m going home I said yes sir I said but we have a evening program you know back in the day you had a 3 3:30 service 4:00 service Lord knows how right I said now but we got to go to another church he said yeah I’m going
Home and you are going to speak wow I said really he said yeah I said I just did it today yeah he said yeah but you you can you can handle it so go to this church I’m I’m I’m naming men who helped me through yes sir and we go to baptized
Pentecost with the church go over there Bishop Walter Jones still the pastor there and I went and he and I guess R BJ called him so he knew what was going on and I’m sitting there scared to death and he said you’re going to be all right
Son you’re going to be all right he was a friend of my dad’s he said you’re going to be all right said if you can’t let me know yeah and I didn’t say no he said cuz I know you can and he walked left me left me in the study by myself
He went on inside said when you get ready come on out yeah he he pushed me and and right now today still he’s a friend of mine and when I need him he’s there and vice versa you know but I Look to Him for knowledge and wisdom as well
I get that from him but getting ordained through Philip hod and joining the fist Street Baptist Church re H is still my pastor yeah and he’s still a big help to me we we lean on each other yes sir lean on other but but but those men were very
Instrumental in my life and my Ministry yeah to help me to get where I am right now today and I I want to lift them up Reverend Reverend HJ is still around Reverend Coleman my dad re B just gone Glory but Reverend HJ is still here but
But but those men really really helped me they they really helped me man they really did in my life it’s always got to be somebody as I was saying earlier somebody that’s going to that’s right going to help you and yeah sometime carry you yeah sometimes you need
Sometimes you got to be carried you know I need and it’s okay yes yes it is Reverend Sams I I we ain’t got that much time Reverend Sams go ahead go ahead Reverend Sams was my professor at school in Simmons okay I had no idea I’d be a
Pastor in this church but he pushed me in class yeah okay my mother passed I stopped going to school I came back to school I met this guy named Reverend Jones who was the interim pastor at New Covenant gotta he asked me to come over and speak for a New Year’s Eve service
Bring our two churches together do a joint service together okay cool we can do this we we’re going and do that the church came open he was the interim pastor the church came open he stopped me in hallway and said have you applied for New Covenant I said no no no
Sir I haven’t applied I mean I fig you’re going to be the pastor there no no you ought to apply said okay but when I look back at this I think that if when I started Pastor re Sam just always tell me you need to get back in
School yeah cuz we have enough dumb pastors running around here already I said yes sir he he passed in January 13th I started back school spring semester of 13 wow I met Reverend Jones in 13 when I was when I was in school yeah being with him all around you know
He was in alumni meetings I was across the hall from one of my classes we’ always meet and talk he guided me to New Covenant to New Covenant wow but if I had if Reverend Sams had to put the bug in my ear re Bounder had sent me back to
School to school that’s right re Sams put the bug in my ear I would have went back I never met Reverend Jones wow if I never met Reverend Jones I wouldn’t be a new covenant right now wow wow so that that was God’s plan yes sir and me and
God has a plan for you as well yeah yeah take heed take heed take heed pay attention that’s right pay attention to the people around you pay attention to the people who are there trying to help you to help you don’t look at everybody as competition yeah some folk are not
Competition they are they are a a a step you can get on their backs yes sir and they can Curry you a little bit yes sir amen think about that think about that I’m I’m going stop yeah yeah now that’s it that’s it that that is the the dro
The mic moment uh we we need to uh take up an offering after that that message but no that’s right on point you know it’s often said uh if you see a turtle on a fence post get by you know he got some help and brothers there you know
What Pastor Drake is saying what we’re saying tonight is that there is help for you there’s hope for you we believe in the potential inside of you and uh we’re here this Brotherhood is here to help you and bless you I not just you but
Your family but to start with you and to help um pull the best out of you especially in this season if there ever was a time we needed uh good Godly men time is certainly right now so you all be encouraged Pastor Drake I want to say
