Professed his hope in Christ as a Baptist in his formative years Butler received a clear Assurance of a Divine call to preach the gospel and gave full evidence of his calling at the Mission Baptist Church of nasaw where he was later licensed and ordained yielding to the leading of God this teenage Minister
Moved more than 1,500 miles more from his native Nassau Bahamas to Nashville Tennessee where he matriculated at American Baptist College graduating summum lad with a boret degree his still theological studies continued at Vanderbilt University Divinity School as a Kelly Miller Smith scholar there he was awarded a Divinity degree with

Amen and to you you alabamians who are posing as [Applause] michiganders I I will go home to Sweet Home Alabama with your greetings uh consider with me a familiar passage of the Christian church nestled in the prophet ezekiel’s Memoirs chapter 37 in the English Standard Version of scriptures there is this
Record the hand of the Lord was upon me and he brought me out in the spirit of the Lord and set me down in the middle of a valley it was full of Bones and he led me around among them and behold there were very many on the surface of the
Valley and behold they were very dry and he said to me son of man can these bones live and I answered oh Lord God you know then he said to me prophesy over these bones and say to them oh dried bones hear the word of the
Lord thus says the Lord God to these bones behold I will cause breath to enter you and you shall live and I will lay senu upon you and will cause flesh to come upon you and cover you with skin and put breath in you and you shall live and you shall
Know that I am the Lord Lord so I prophesied as I was commanded and as I prophesied there was a sound and behold a rattling and the bones came together bone to its bone and I looked and behold there were Senus on them and flesh had come upon them and
Skin had covered them but there was no breath in them then he said to me prophesy to the breath prophesy son of man and say to the breath thus says the Lord God come from the Four Winds oh breath and breathe on these slain that they may
Live so I prophesied as I was commanded and the breath came into them and they lived and stood on their feet an exceedingly great Army then he said to me son of man these bones are the whole house of Israel behold they say our bones are dried up and I hope is
Lost we are indeed cut off therefore prophesy and say to them thus says the Lord God behold I will open your Graves and raise you you from your Graves oh my people and I will bring you into the land of Israel and you shall know that I
Am the Lord when I open your Graves and raise you from your Graves oh my people and I will put my spirit within you and you shall live and I will place you in your own land then you shall know that I am the Lord I have spoken and I will do it
Declares the Lord the grass withers the flower Fades the word of our God will stand forever I want to talk about this one is on me God make my tongue the pen of a ready writer and inscribe upon the hearts of your people a word that should never spoil fade or pass
Away in the name of the matchless Christ the son of God whom we love and adore we pray amen it is almost impossible to either read or hear this passage without appreciating the leading role that God plays in it even though the text is titled the valley of dry
Bones and is widely known among Bible readers for the phenomenon of Bones reconnecting on an open plane ezekiel’s story is a fascinating disclosure of God’s intent and a relevant testimony about the limitlessness of God’s possibilities for this priest turn profit the vision comes as a relief the words he is commanded to
Speak former sermon I believe he would much rather prefer to preach instead of the heavy words of warning and lamentation that he has already proclaimed indeed he is overwhelmed by the charge of being God’s mouthpiece longing instead for former days in the priesthood where he could simply serve his scheduled
Ministration without drawing the ey of people’s discontent God has laid upon a task that would make any preacher shudder amid a nation’s disintegration losing both her independence and identity at the same time with people suffering Imperial Terror and the trauma of Exile Ezekiel is pushed on the
Scene to announce a definitive end to their way of life the temple will be destroyed he says the davidic dynasty of kingship will be upended the holy city of Jerusalem will be sacked and Israel will be cut off from the land of promise there’s no place as unsettling as the point where old
Certainties collide with the massive shock of a new reality the force departure of vassals from Jerusalem to Babylon is the worst experience of their National existence the impenetrable Fortress of God has been violated the mighty bullwark has been breached the security of the city is no
More and the people of God at least who carried his name are questioning how can this be dare they ask if the gods small G of the Babylonians are stronger than their God dare they query if there is some Mist clause in the covenant made with
Them by God that could explain how they could suffer a lot and lose it all even with those questions swirling in the air it never Dawns on them that the city they left is no more sacred than the god who protects it and since they found him so unsuitable to give him
Their complete devotion in the very place he had given to them he chose to leave that place long before it would be touched by the hands of people who didn’t even know his [Applause] name but because the Lord is gracious and merciful because his loving kindness is renewed
Daily because his anger is fleeting but his favor lasts a lifetime God makes plans for their return even before they are taken away and that beloved is the mystery of the Divine in that he looks beyond our faults to see our need while they are at their lowest
Point God shows Zeke everything he needs to see and tells him everything he needs to say for God to raise up a people dead in their despair Zeke tells us the hand of the Lord was upon me brought me out in the spirit and dropped me in the middle of a
Valley full of Bones he says I couldn’t escape them even if I tried God gave me a guided tour up and down sh and young and there were all kinds of Bones there were flat bones frontal and uh uh and parietal bones occipital bones and temporal bones shoulder blades rib cages and breast
Bones there were long bones femur tibias and fibulas humores and radiuses Alas and fanges metacarpal and metatarsals there were short bones carpes and met and tarsals patellas and sesamoid bones there were irregular bones vertebrae pelvic bones facial bones I mean there were all kinds of bones but they all had one thing in
Common they were very dry now Zeke’s observation is Meaningful beloved for it indicates that whomever these bones belong to they had been dead for a good while the vision is not set in a valley of dead bodies nor is it in a pit of decomposing corpses no death and decomposition
Have already run their course what lies before the prophet are human remains that tell the story of a people who once were but are no more you know the pastor in me knows that there is at least somebody in the sanctuary or viewing the live stream who
Who is tied to this text in an intimate way you’ve been walking in your own season of parchedness for a while and dry bones are but a metaphor for what seems hopeless in your present situation these bones speak to the aftermath of your worst battles your best Endeavors that have
Failed your dreams that you once believed your health that was once strong the relationships that once fed you but now are defunct these bones remind you of the ongoing pathologies you have to endure yeah some finished scene of fruitlessness that keeps you tied to a place that lacks
Productivity and the only thing that they can do now as with all dead and dry things is lie there and wither away now if we tell the truth today it it it it it sounds like a redundant question that God would ask Zeke can these bones live don’t you see
Them you brought me here you gave me a tour you showed me the disconnection and the fragmentation and now you ask me can they live I mean the situation is as dead as can be it cannot get any worse you and I are smart enough to give a response based upon what we
See but the question is not rooted in Visual Evidence it’s rooted in possibilities that can only be revealed in Divine will so Zeke says oh Lord God you know oh praise His name I I I know I know I know you came to to worship today with your bag of bones dragging behind
You and if you let the peanut gallery give a determination about your condition they would suggest that nothing good can come out of your life but yet you know a God who oh knows more than we’ll ever know and how often do we so G speak about people’s
Potential how often do we so glibly speak about people’s conditions that we Edge out the possibility that God can do something [Applause] else be just like their mama just like they’re no good dad and you’d you’d put upon them a list and a lineage of dysfunctions that are
Generational and you’ll come to some up and assess someone’s future possibility based upon what you see right now but can I tell you God always sees more God always has access to more information God always keep unto God’s self more data than we are exposed to
And I’m so glad today that if it were up to somebody else you and I would not be here today but thanks be to God he knew how to keep us H before before Zeke speculates about human probability he hangs the outcome on Divine possibility in this regard Zeke affirm
Ms the truth hear me beloved that nothing lies Beyond God’s power and control yes Lord now before you go to the cemetery to tr to try to speak to dry bones let me give you a story Connie Connie Jackson sister preacher in Texas yes sir remembers the influence of her Sunday school teacher
Henrietta Jenkins born somewhere around 1894 because they grew up in the country they didn’t pronounce every syllable of her name they simply called her Henrietta and uh sister Henrietta would have been a preacher if women were licensed and ordained in that day but she was the best teacher of the
Scriptures that Connie Jackson ever encountered sister Henrietta could tell stories of the Bible as though she was an eyewitness vivid imagery and bodily Expressions made words leap off the pages of the sacred text and scenes came to life in her classroom every Sunday morning Rend Connie was inspired by

Serving you no good some of you are trying to reclaim people who should have been put out of your life years ago and you need to stand over that situation like an officiating Minister and say Earth to Earth ashes to ashes dust to Dust you can’t raise what God wants to be [Applause] dead Zeke leaves room for God to speak first and the Lord says to me prophesy over these bones the prophet could have said dead and dry things cannot hear but instead he does as the Lord commands can you can you can you see
Him talking to to dead and dry things I mean can you see him saying to them the Lord will cause breath to enter you and you shall live he will lay sen upon you and cause flesh to come upon you and cover you with skin and you shall live and when it
Happens you will know that he is the Lord he’s he’s trying to work it out in him he’s he’s trying to he’s trying to work it out in him for this this is a people who have fallen out of rhythm with God who saw God simply on the weekends huh [Applause] they they
Had Sabbath [Applause] dates he was for good Baptist a Sunday savior who they simply saw in the sanctuary but no sooner than they entered the world they forgot the name had just called upon in the Sacred Space and he’s trying to get them back in Rhythm by working at the molecular
Level of their DNA so that you will know that I am the Lord talk about the strange ways of God using evocative speech to resurrect dead and dry things and yet God has an inimitable way of giving his servants odd assignments yes Jesus you know there are some people
Hanging around me in Huntsville who were talking about God calling them to preach and I tell them slow you roll slow your roll slow you roll cuz there are 52 Sundays of the year and every one of them I’m supposed to preach him yes Lord but I tell them it because people
Like the lights and the trappings of the [Applause] desk they they like the name in print and the annual days that come along with serving the office but if I read the record of the Hebrew prophets God puts upon them a burden that’s too heavy for their
Frame and my advice to people who are talking about preaching is don’t say yes unless you’re willing to accept an odd assignment in a dry place yes as The Story Goes Zeke starts talking telling what God told him to say and something happens he hears a sound a battling
Sound and it’s difficult to determine whether the quaking of the earth cause the bones to move or if the ground is moving because the bones are reconnecting we we don’t know we we we don’t know the causal relationship of the quake and the bones all we know is
That there’s quaking and bones are moving cuz it really doesn’t matter which happens first as long as things start falling into place now watch the text beloved watch the text beloved watch the text I I see it in the text Pastor Herod and sometimes we might miss
In our private study what God can still reveal to us the text says the bones came together bone to its bone that’s that’s the translation bone to its bone you got to see it there are all kinds of Bones scattered in the valley and the bones came together again
One one may assume that spare bones were just hopping on bones that were close to it no the text says bone to it spoke yes Lord which is to say that God is so meticulous in the work of reconnecting and resurrection that the Lord won’t use a
Spare bone in your body the Lord will give you what’s yours and it doesn’t matter how far away it’s been scattered the Lord knows where your bones are the Lord knows where where you Das your dreams the Lord knows where you’ve been disappointed the Lord knows where you’ve been dis jointed and
When the Lord gets ready to put it back together again he’ll go to the places where you left your things and bring it [Applause] back he looks and tendons and flesh appear on them and skin covers them it happens just as God tells him Senus are laid upon the bones to bind them
Together flesh comes upon the frame to cover the bones and skin comes on the muscle to cover the flesh God’s plan is working but it is not done God’s plan is working but it is not done and sometimes we wonder why it is taking so long we we we’ prefer one quick
Fix so we can move on but if we tell the truth today our bones didn’t stack up [Applause] overnight it took some time so this restoration will come with some necessary steps songwriter says sometimes discouraged but not defeated cast down but not destroyed there are times I don’t understand but I
Believe it’s turning around for me cuz I can see the breaking of day God is making a way a change is coming from me if I stand strong and believe there’s no reason the doubt I know he’s twerking it out it’s turning around for me I like this part it won’t
Always be like this he will perfect that concerning me and sooner or later it will turn in my favor it’s turning around for me I don’t know what you are facing in your life I don’t know what is stock against you when you get back home I don’t know what
You have to confront tomorrow when you face the day but can I tell you sooner or later yes Lord it will turn in my favor he’ll turn it around from me I’m I’m almost done beloved even with all of the wonderment yes that is going on Ezekiel is only looking at corpses without
Spirit bones are reconnected but bodies are still on the ground flesh is on the bones but muscles can do no flexing skin covers the flesh but it cannot glow because there is no spirit and some of us would settle for what is already accomplished because it is far better
Than what we have had but can I tell you if you settle for a body without Spirit you’ll inevitably return to the state from which you have just been improved oh go with Zeke a step further Beloved the Lord tells him prophesy to the breath and say to it come from the
Four Winds and breathe into these slain that they may live yes if you’re rolling with Zeke this far stay with him in the next phase for God is now operating in God’s domain of creation God is now bringing order out of chaos and God requires some faithful
Folk who do not mind looking silly for a minute for your dry yes situation is not merely external but your situation needs the wind of God all the same you you remember what happened at the dawn of creation he spoke and Light Came skipping down the darkness he spoke and divided the Waters
Of the heavens from the Waters of the earth below he spoke and birds of the sky started yes flopping their wings and beasts of the ground started crawling on the fields and in the forest he spoke and SC stars were littered in the sky like diamond on a velvet
Backrop God has power in his words and gives Ezekiel the same power to call on the elemental forces he says call for the Breath of God do I have a witness in here somebody has got to call on the Lord today breathe on Me Breath of God fill me with life a
New that I may love as you have loved and do as you would do Breathe on Me Breath of God until my heart is pure until my will is one with your to do and to endure have I got a witness Breathe on Me Breath of God so shall I never
Die but live with you the perfect life of your eternity call forth the Breath of God and tell the breath of God blow over you this day blow over your life blow over your family blow over your ministry blow over your potential blow over your possibilities uh blow over your broken
Dreams blow over your want and Ambitions Breathe on Me Breath of God blow over my plans blow over my hopes Breathe on Me Breath of God uh do I have a witness in him breathe over me breathe over me breathe over me breathe over me but can I tell you

Over my children breathe over my husband uh breathe over my co-workers uh breathe over my neighborhood uh breathe over the city of Detroit uh breathe Breathe on Me Breath of God uh have I got a witness in him why do we need the Breath of God uh because without the
Breath of God uh we are dried up and we are cut off and our hope is lost but can I have a witness somebody needs to hear what the Lord has to say I’ll open your Graves uh and I’ll raise you up uh I’ll bring you out uh and I’ll

Is extended to all of us here if there’s anyone here specifically that is unchurched unsaved and ultimately feel the Holy Spirit leading you to take next steps we want you to respond to this invitation to discipleship and take the next steps that the spirit has for you on today
So if there’s anybody here today unsaved unchurched or feel the pulling of the Holy Spirit to lead you to turn from where you are and turn towards the direction that he has for you will you come today will you come right now during this period in which the invitation to discipleship is
Extended blessed be blessed be the name of the Lord after just looking at at me look at your neighbor amen check with your neighbor ask them are you saved is the holy spirit leading you to take next steps tell them look I can’t walk for you but I’ll walk with
You I will compel you to come to Christ don’t let this day pass by without taking the next steps that the spirit has for your life tomorrow is not promised and soon tomorrow will not be in existence so get your reservations in order today take those next steps today amen blessed

Lord once again we thank you for the word proclaim through Dr Butler and Lord just as he has poured out to us I pray that in many ways you will pour back into him in such a way that his cup will continue to run over in Jesus name we

Me to do things a little better I’m still on the poter will uh but thanks to their help things are definitely getting better this is my wife’s Church my wife grew up in this church and it’s slowly but surely has become mine and [Applause]
Uh thank you thank you uh I I have been very very very fortunate and this weekend we were a able to take some of the information that God had put me in some places to gather information and share it with others uh the young man that spoke for us this weekend his name
Was Anthony batist and Anthony and I met when I was working at standard Federal Bank that evolved to be LEL bank and uh then when I went over to Goodwill he went over to another Pro nonprofit called list and he is a wonderful young man and he donated his time to us this
Weekend and share some of the things that list does you may want to Google that when you have time and it’s amazing what they do but I’d like to share this with you one of the things that that organization does is they have a program for a 0% Home Improvement zero interest
Excuse me uh Home Improvement dollars and it’s interesting because my mom used to always say to me you know we’re always praying for things but sometimes we don’t don’t understand that God has given us what we’ve been praying for but he’s not going to walk up to
Your door and say Here’s that new job Simeon here’s that 0% interest we we got to put a little work in and because of the work that I was fortunate to do in in a past jobs and so forth I was able to take that information and now share
That with you and what I’d like to say is this in closing and Anthony Harrison Anthony could you stand up are you still with us here uh Anthony was our took care of cooking all our food and uh this brother just did thank you thank you
Very very much thank you Anthony did a wonderful job and was uh energy bug you know I asked him if he could come over on Friday could we meet and get some things done and he came over Friday and he said well I want to be here Saturday morning at
