And we give God praise for you listen we’re continuing in a series that we started last week we started a series talking about it is more blessed to give dealing with this spiritual discipline of generosity and so we are going to travel into part two of that Series
Today and in fact we did not finish the sermon last week and I blame y’all in Jesus name so we’re going to try to pick up where we left off from last week I want you to join me again Deuteronomy chapter 8 last week we dealt with verses 1-5 and
Couldn’t go any further than that and so I want to pick up where we left off round about verse number six and it reads this way observe the commands of the Lord your God walking in obedience to him and revering him for the Lord your God is
Bringing you into a good land someone say a good land a land with Brooks streams and Deep Springs gushing out into the valley and the hills a land with wheat and barley Vines and fig trees pomegranates olive oil and honey a land where bread will not be scarce and you will lack
Nothing tell somebody you’ll lack nothing a land where the rocks are iron and you can dig copper out of the hills and then as we continue down it says in verse number 15 he led you through the vast and Dreadful Wilderness that thirsty and waterless land with its
Venomous snakes and scorpions he brought you water out of hard rock he gave you Mana to eat in the wilderness something your ancestors had never known to humble and to test you so that in the end it might go well with you and you may say
To yourself my power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me but remember the Lord your God for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth somebody say wealth and so confirms his Covenant which he swore to your ancestors as it is today you may
Be seated in the presence of our God but time those eyes are share together in part two of what was supposed to be one seron I want to change the title a little bit and talk from this subject but wait wait there is more turn to somebody and say but
Wait there’s more all right they might have been mean because Colorado lost again so turn on the other side and say but wait there’s more there’s more there’s more will you pray with me God we thank you so much for this day and for the opportunity to come into your house of
Worship one more time we thank you for another opportunity to preach your gospel that you continue to use one whose righteousness is but a filthy rag to be an instrument of your word and now I pray oh God you know what I need touch my mind touch my mouth give me strength
Power Clarity of speech anoint me aresh that I might preach as you have given it unto me as I’ve not preached before and as we sit in anticipation of your word God will you open our ears will you open our hearts that we might be receptive to
What your spirit has to say for ultimately God it’s your thing do what you want to do in Jesus name amen and and amen but wait there’s more church family it is youth Sunday and I must confess that it is finally beginning to happen to me that after
Decades of saying what I wouldn’t do and who I would not be what I would not become over these last few weeks I may have had some of my very first well back in my day kind of moments comparing what the generation of Children and Youth are experiencing now
How things were when I was growing up frankly it makes me feel like I’m now the old guy on the porch complaining about everything that I see my children and our young people doing and listening to how those old brothers on the porch were complaining about our generation
Ation comparing it to how things were when they grew up I’ve been checking out some of the drill music and the Mumble rap that some of our young people are banging to and when I listen to it it makes me say well back in my day even if
You couldn’t agree with what was being said you could at least understand most of what the rapper was talking about and it makes me feel some kind of way today my baby boy gets mad when the internet doesn’t let him change from app application to application in a matter
Of seconds on his device but back in my day when the internet was just getting started it was a whole production that required patience you had to make sure all the phones in the house weren’t being used and that the phone line could dial us up to the Internet and you’d
Have to wait 20 days have to wait through some strange Noises before we could connect to American online and slowly navigate from page to page speaking of patience one of the biggest thing I’ve noticed Dr jazz is the way that my children consume their television today they can go to apps they can go to YouTube they can go to
Netflix anytime and pick the show they want to watch pick the episodes they want to watch and they get mad if we choose a different one when back in my day shows would come on a specific Channel at specific times and you got what you got and you couldn’t
Just watch a show all the way through but when it would got just when it was getting good to you the show would always be interrupted by something my children have no concept of uh commercials somebody say commercials and growing up some of the best commercials Sean were the ones during Saturday
Morning cartoons when they were trying to sell you a toy that you couldn’t find in KB Toys you couldn’t find that toy in the toys RS they would be these exclusive toys that you’d have to call a800 number to get what was amazing is that they were all selling at the same
Price $1 199.99 good God Almighty and without fail what would make the difference in the best of those commercials is after they showed you how great this product was that was being advertised and why it was really worth the asking price then the announcer would say but wait there’s
More and add that if you follow the command of the narrator if you invested in the product in the next 10 minutes they promised something additional some additional item some additional thing that created an excitement in the child and you could not refuse this offer you
Ran to your mama and daddy and said we got to have it in Jesus name and do what the narrator told us to do and strangely enough family that seems to be what God is doing to the people of Israel when we pick back up where we left off from last
Week in Deuteronomy chapter 8 if you recall Deuteronomy picks up with Moses’s speech to now the second generation of Hebrews who were children when God delivers them out of Egyptian bondage but have now grown up during Israel’s 40e sojourn in the wilderness just outside of the promised land of Canaan
And now that God allows the whole of the Israelite parents’ generation to die out before opening up Canaan for the people of God to walk into God through Moses has to remind the people that when you get to this land that they were not to forget the Lord uh and to commit to
Obeying and honoring God’s commands including those commands that promoted generosity to God someone say generosity generosity to God’s people and prescribe what was needed to be offered to the Lord their God and last week we began with the argument that participating in this spiritual discipline of generosity
Has less to do with our money as it does with our mindset a mindset that says we ought to have no problem being generous to God and to God ‘s people when we take a peak into our past that was verse 1-5 and see how God has already been a way
Out of no way kind of God and when you think that was sufficient enough to convince the people of God and giving and generosity then God the narrator jumps in on the commercial and says but wait there’s more that if you take seriously the work of obeying my
Commands my laws and my decrees including in the the area of generosity there are some additional promises there are some additional things that come with your investment that should make this worth your while and I promise if y’all give me a quick two I’ll be
Through but I want to lift the last two things uh that I meant to mention on last week about this business of generosity and the mindset that we ought to have and the first thing that the text teaches me is that God says you need to obey me Israel even in your
Giving and generosity because what I prescribe for you to do is paired with some promises somebody say paired with promises it’s right there in the text verses 6-9 observe the commands of the Lord your God walking in obedience to him and revering him for the Lord your
God is bringing you into a good land somebody say a good land land with Brooks and streams and Deep Springs gushing out into the valleys and Hills a land land with wheat and barley and Vines and fig trees and pomegranates and olive oil and honey a land where bread
Will not be scarce and you will lack nothing a land where rocks are iron and you can dig coppers out of the Hill Moses communicates to this new generation of Israelites one more again hey y’all be obedient somebody say be obedient follow and observe the commands of the Lord walk in obedience and
Reverence God even in the area of giving and generosity not just because uh of who God is uh and how God has been a way maker in the past providing way out of no way blessings as we talked about last week God is that but wait there’s more
Moses says uh that if we are persistent in our commitmen uh to following the commands of God and revering God even in the area of generosity and financial stewardship uh that there is a promise somebody say promise uh that is attached to our obedience uh and for the people
Of Israel it says uh that if you can keep my Commandments there is a very specific promise if you all will keep my commands I will lead you out of this desert and lead you to a place uh that doesn’t look anything uh like where you
Are right now that I’m going to take you from this dry and desert land to a land of plenty of water I’m going to take you to a place with Brooks and streams and Deep Springs that are gushing out of the valleys and the hills but wait there’s
More that if you do your part I won’t just give you water to drink uh but I’m going to give you a land with food to eat with wheat and barley and Vines and fig trees uh and pomegranates and olive oil and honey a land where bread uh will
Not be scarce and remember family these are shouting words uh for people who had grown up not with Kroger or Publix or food lons to pick up their groceries each week not with Southern Kitchen or Boat House or Mama Jays to go and pick
From a menu to eat no this is a people who for decades have had to eat and survive on the same food options every day on Quail and Mana from God uh food that they could not save in doggy bags or put in the refrigerator know they
Were forced to trust God uh literally for their daily bread and God says uh that if you do your part I promise you that I’m going to bring you to a land where you’ll have water where you’ll have food and food options but wait uh there’s more I’m going to give you a
Land uh where you will lack nothing because I’m going to put you in a place uh where you are surrounded by wealth building opportunities and resources uh a land where you will need where you will have what you need for your meals and uh you will have precious metals uh
Whether rocks or iron and you you can dig uh copper out of the hills a land where the rocks are iron where there’s copper in the Hills uh and if you remain persistence in your obedience uh then I have promises that are designated uh to
Provide you what you need uh in the next season of your life and it is a reminder to me uh that part of our willingness to trust God uh and open our hearts and our hands uh to generosity to God to God’s Church uh and to others is the reality
Uh that we serve a covenant making uh and a covenant keeping God that we serve a god that is proven through time uh through God’s history with the people that we read about in the text uh and through our own histories uh that God may push us to do certain things uh and
Live in certain ways and serve uh in certain ways and give in certain ways uh but we serve a God that demonstrates uh that if you are faithful to me I’ll be faithful to you uh that if you’ll proceed in obedience I have promises uh that will fulfill you that are designed
Uh to turn your present reality on its head uh and show you Great and Mighty things uh that you know not of uh and family reading this Truth for the people of Israel at this juncture doesn’t surprise me at all uh because throughout scripture God is often attaching
Promises uh to our willingness to proceed in obedience to God uh in the areas of generosity of giving uh to God to God’s church and to others in fact as I prep for the message it’s hard to find a command of God to give uh that isn’t
Followed up by some kind of providential Promise uh to back that thing up uh where juvenile when I need them and sometimes uh especially when it relates to our resources and our money uh God’s process can feel like a stretch to us uh but for every procedure that stretches
Us uh God pairs it with a promise uh that supports us let me say it one more time slow uh that for every procedure that God prescribes uh that stretches us God has paed it with the promise to support us uh y’all don’t believe me in Malachi chapter 3 and10 uh God stretches
Us with the procedure of tithing on our income uh the stretching process is uh bring the whole tithe uh attemp of our increase and income uh into the storehouse that there might be food uh in my house but the promise that us that’s connected to is is this uh test
Me in this says the Lord Almighty uh and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of Heaven uh and pour out a blessing uh that will not be room enough to receive or toore it uh it’s paired with a promise uh Proverbs 22 and9 calls
For believers to be generous to the poor that’s the procedure but the promise is uh that the generous themselves uh will be blessed by God Luke chapter 6 uh Jesus gives the disciples a procedure that stretches them he says y’all I know you’ve been walking around with me and
You haven’t been able to work since you’ve been with me uh but give anyway uh but here is the promise uh give and it shall be given unto you good measure press down uh Shake together running over shall men and women pour into your lap uh for with the measure that you use
Uh it will be measured to you uh and you can take it to the bank uh because God procedures uh are paired with the Lord’s promises uh and last week I ain’t even make it out the first point uh because we were talking about how God is a way
Maker God will provide ways out of no ways uh blessing us in our past uh but today I need to pause and praise God uh for the fact that he’s not just a way maker not just a miracle worker but he’s also a covenant maker and a promis
Keeper and those promises are not just confined uh to our generosity but God has given us promises that cover every aspect of our lives and just in case you’ve forgotten some of them uh let me remind you this morning uh that for those who are frustrated uh by the
Chaos that is around you on your job uh and in your home uh and at your school uh and in your dorm and in the community uh here’s the promise uh I will keep you in perfect peace uh and the procedure is uh if you can keep your mind uh stayed
On me uh for those that are tired uh about what’s happening in your world right now uh you’re tired by the grind of work uh you’re tired of waiting on the promotion you’re tired of fighting where you are here is the procedure come to me all that are weary and are heavy
Laden but here’s the promise if you come to me I will give you rest take my yoke upon you and learn from me for I am gentle and humble in heart uh and you will find rest uh for your weary Souls uh tell your neighbor that’s a promise
Uh for those who are becom impatient right now because you’ve been praying for some things uh you’ve been seeing some things in others that you want you have some things that you desire and you haven’t seen the fruit of what you’ve been waiting for the procedure is this
Keep waiting on God and the promise is that they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength they shall Mount up with wings as Eagles uh they shall run and not get weary uh they shall walk and not Fain uh we got to get ready to go
But will you tell somebody that even when God is stretching us there are promises that’ll support us uh he’s a way maker a miracle worker but he’s a promis keeper is there anybody in the room that can Testify the only reason I’m standing is because I’m Standing on
The Promises of God I’m standing I see you twin I’m standing I’m Standing on the Promises of God tell your neighbor I don’t know what you’re going through uh but he’s a promis keeper tell your neighbor I don’t know what you’re going through uh but he’s a promise keeper he says I’m bearing
This God says obey me Israel even in the area of giv in generosity because what I prescribe for you to do is paired with some promise but secondly and I’m done we getting ready to go to brunch in jesus’ name God says obey me Israel even in the area of giving and generosity
Because that obedience is not just paired with promises but that obedience is also paired with God’s provision turn to somebody and say we serve a provider that it is paired with God’s provision listen family I know God is indeed a Heavenly parent by the way that this chapter is structured because after God
Begins to tell the people of Israel he says Hey listen y’all follow my commands follow my instructions uh because I’ve been with you in the past uh making way out of no way blessings uh and your obedience uh is how your obedience to the process uh is paired with some
Promises he says that all the way through verse number nine and then like a good parent talking to the toddler God essentially repeats the same thing that God said before the children of Israel once again because that’s what you have to do when you’re talking to children
It’s as if God is pointing God’s finger at them saying I’ve already told y’all once uh don’t forget about me don’t forget about me when you get in this land uh and you are eating all the food that I promised uh when you’re drinking all the water that I promised when
You’re drinking the wine that the land will yield the mineral water and the Mero and the Moscato don’t forget about me praise me still and Render unto me uh what I have requested of you because if you don’t make if you you don’t make following the commands uh and the
Decrees of the Lord uh and taking time to pause and praise the Lord uh a lifestyle somebody say a lifestyle and a habit then when you come into all these promises uh you will forget where all of this came from tell somebody say don’t forget that’s in verses 12- 14 otherwise
Uh when you eat and are satisfied uh when you build your fine homes in Chester I’m sorry when you build your fine homes and settle down uh when there are your herds and your flocks grow large and your silver and gold increase uh and you get the refund check uh and
All you have is Multiplied uh then your heart will become proud uh and you will forget the Lord your God and God has to repeat the history one more time in verses 15- 16 God says you’ll forget the Lord your God who brought you out of
Egypt uh and out of the land of slavery he led you through the vast and Dreadful Wilderness that thirsty and waterless land with this venomous snakes and scorpions he brought you water out of a hard rock he gave you Mana to eat in the wilderness something uh that your
Ancestors had never known to humble and detest you uh so that in the end it might go well with you uh and verse 17 and 18 uh is where I’ve been trying to get the last two weeks uh he says you may say to yourself my power and the
Strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me but remember the Lord your God for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth uh and so confirms his Covenant uh which he swore to your ancestors uh as it is today and in this line God reaffirms uh that you
Don’t just follow my decrees and my commands uh including the call to generosity and financial stewardship uh because I was the one who made ways out of no ways in the past or even because it comes with a promise uh he says but you can practice obedience uh even in
The area of generosity uh because ultimately I’ve given you the provision to have something to be generous with in the first place uh good God almighty God says don’t allow where you live uh what you’ve been able to eat what you’ve been able to drink what you’ve been able to
Enjoy uh to cause you to believe that you’re a self-made man or a self-made woman that you got it out the mud on your own that like Franklin saying that you built what you have Brick by Brick no God says that even if your hands and your strength completed the action I was
The one behind the scenes giving you the ability and the authorization uh to have what you have and do what you do and it’s a reminder to us that a lifestyle of generosity to God uh to God’s church and God’s people uh is really about gratitude it’s about recognizing that
Ultimately I give my tithe I give my offering uh I give to brothers and sisters uh in need in the church and out of the church uh and I give to organizations uh who are doing good work uh without feeling like it’s a chore or with a grudge in my giving uh because
Ultimately I realize that I wouldn’t have any of it to give if it were not for God who grants me the abilities I have the skills that I have the mind that I have the gift GI that I have the opportunities I have uh to produce the
Resources I have uh in the first place uh and I wonder if there’s some honest Saints in the room that could testify I did the work but it was God that gave me the strength it was God that gave me the skills it was the Lord that gave me the
Talent it was God that opened the opportunity it was God that gave me the job it was God that gave me the contract it was God that gave me the idea it was God that opened up the platform and whatever God is asking of me I can
Release it because I wouldn’t have it without the Lord my God good God Almighty and I hear you today family somebody saying pastor I believe that we need to be generous and I know I ought to be generous even in my giving of the tithe and
Offering that God is asking us for but Pastor you don’t know how tight the bills are you don’t know how much is stacked against me you don’t know all the obligations that are in my life that makes giving something more away not intriguing to me even the God and God’s
Church it feels illogical it doesn’t make sense uh well let me assure you today I know exactly what you’re talking about I’ve had similar conversations uh and decisions I’ve had to make but here’s what God reminded me of this week uh that if it is I the Lord your God who
Gives you the ability to create wealth in the first place uh then if you release some of it in obedience uh and acknowledgement to me I’m also the God that I give you the power to do it again could God Almighty even when giving as I command doesn’t seem to make sense in
The season at your end and isn’t that what God demonstrates all throughout the word that God demonstrates through the Prophet Elijah in First Kings 17 when a drought hit the land and after being fed by Ravens and drinking from the brook he was led to the home of a widow who was
Spent and worn out by life and by the drought and the famine and she had determined she was going to use her last bit of flour and her last bit of oil to gather some sticks go back home make a meal for herself and her son so she
Could eat it and die but Elijah said I know this doesn’t make sense but God said you were supposed to feed me so make me a small cake first and see what what the Lord will do and though it didn’t make sense to her she offered
What she had in service to the Lord and because of it the Bible says that in her house there was no more flow and no more new oil but every day for Elijah and the woman in her family the flower was not used up the oil did not run dry keeping
With the word of the Lord and even when a son came ill the prophet was right there to restore his life to health because we serve a God that when you give it up for God God has the power to give it back again a that what God
Demonstrates through the little boy in John 6 uh that was among the crowd of thousands uh who were leaving Revival with Jesus uh and they were hungry but they were stuck in a place where there were no Popeye Chicken no McDonald’s or Papa Johns to help them out and all that
The disciples could find was a little boy’s lunch two fish and th loes of bread and somehow Jesus Took the little that he had he broke it and he blessed it h and in the end there was enough to feed thousands uh including the little boy that offered what he had and they
Had baskets left over because we serve a God that if you give it to him God has the power to give it back again and Dr Lori is a witness uh that though we are not yet wealthy people uh but it’s coming down the road since the time we
Were in graduate school we’ve lived by the philosophy that when there’s an opportunity to be generous to God’s people uh and generous to the church uh and if there’s a tug to give uh to obey that tug uh because I’m a living and breathing witness that God always gives
It back I’m a witness that there have been times that God has pulled my heart to give something away to somebody knowing I didn’t have it to give and before the day ended somebody came through with the exact amount that I gave away from my hands I am a witness
Uh that whenever I’ve stretched down on faith uh to give the god God’s church and wasn’t sure if we had it that God gave it back and then some that I did not expect because we serve a God that specializes in thee again I’m done with
The message may the Lord bless you real good but this is the part of the message for the season Saints this is a part of the message for some people uh who have walked with God and trusted God even in the area of generosity and sometimes
Youve given out of a lifestyle when it did not make sense but your testimony is that when you gave it out of obedience like the Widow and Kings like the little boy with the lunch you learned that God has the ability to give it back again
And that’s not just a word about our livelihoods but that’s a word for every area of your life that we serve a God that can give back what has been released whatever it is your resources you can get it back your health God can
Give it back uh your joy uh God can give it back uh your peace uh God can give it back uh your vision God can give it back your passion God can give it back your strength God can give it back your love God can give it back your song God can
Give it back your dance God can give it back is there anybody in the building today that says we serve a God that can do it again that can fix it again that can make it again tell your neighbor I don’t know what you’ve lost
Along the way but we serve a God that can give it back grab your neighbor by the hand hold their hand like you love him as say neighbor we serve a God that’s going to give it back your health he’s going to give it back your peace
He’s going to give it back your joy he’s going to give it back your family he’s don’t give it back shout yes shout yes shout shout if you did it before he can do it again save God right now save God back there somebody look to God get that
Thing on your mind and say Lord Do It Again Lord Do It Again again Lord Heal it again Lord give it back lord chew it again but wait there’s more if you do your part God said now unto him who is able to do exce need it abundant
Above all we can ask all B sh tell somebody God can do more than you expect they didn’t believe you tell somebody God can do More woo woo wait there’s there’s More God says listen I’m going to do something for your generation talking to Israel I’m going to do something for your generation your foreparents never imagine I’m about to bring you in some places your grandmothers your parents your great grand Grand could only dream of Hallelujah in
Slavery but when I do it for you when I give you that job I give you that idea you sitting at that house you doing the Tik Tock challenges in when I do that for you don’t forget about me I am the god that gave you way out of now way
Blessings I’m the god that when you were walking around in the desert gave you food the Mana gave you water in the wilderness out of the Rocks when it didn’t make sense I’m the God she walked around in the same clothes for 40 years and your St John’s never wore Out them Jay’s never got crispy all right I am the god you walked in the desert for 40 years and your feet never got swollen God says that alone is enough reason to obey me follow my commands follow my Creeds even in the area of generosity but

Streams Cushing out of everywhere I I I know it is that you’ve been eating quail and Mana where I’m about to take you you going to have options wheat and olive oil and fig you can have whatever you like that’s a TI anointing you can have whatever you like

Us in our giving not just to the Lord’s church we ought to do that y’all know me well enough to know I don’t bang folk over the head about giving that’s between you and the Lord but we ought to do what God calls us to do but I’m talking about a lifestyle of
Generosity that whenever God is tugging on your heart to be a blessing to somebody you don’t have to Grudge and grunt about it you say I can do that God cuz you have given me the ability to create wealth and if I release my hand
I’m a living witness God’s got a way of bringing it back again so I’m praying for somebody now God In The Name of Jesus pray for somebody who came into this place they’re on fire for you they love you we want to be pushed in this area of
Generosity yes and what we give to the Lord’s church we desire to become a church that will time given the 10% of our offerings and as our income as Malachi has laid out yes we want to do that but we want to build a mindset a lifestyle of generosity to others to
Your people to your church and to this world so help us to stretch our minds and our trust in you even as it relates to our resources because you have given us the ability to create wealth God I’m praying for somebody that needs to be saved today praying for somebody who
