Before the um the conclusion this is a vision of inter Rel inter religious collaboration for healing that is will be modulated by vable y guli yes may I invite the venerable young goody come to come on state for being the mo moderator yes this you can Morning everyone I am a mon a on from Korea uh months ago I joined the debate at on academic conference on 2050 carbon neutrality in Korea it was with the four religions I think this seminar is is even more meaningful because it’s as the meaning I am an honor to be moderator
Today first I’d like to ask the presenter to appear and let’s welcome to Ben P so in Cambodia and let’s welc come to Ben panaya lakita in India last will come to poin KU father K inun who was with us we ask for your understanding that he came here to help
You answer question after presentation since uh Venable uh Bon is not familiar with English I can just support help today so uh venerable viso will start today’s talk welcome him first let’s welcome to Ben B Venable B the president of pan laa Buddhist University in Cambodia he will
Introduce about vision of Venable Maha kand Kam good morning dear Venable s m a bishop Bishop father brothers and sisters in dma my name venerable visia I’m a president of buddh University in bong Cambodia today it is my great honor to be with all of you
For three days and today is a last day but not at least let Me let me introduce you the vision of Maha kosanda who is Maha kosanda he is a Cambodian man who led the P the peace March in Cambodia in 1990s in we have Paris agreement in 1991 he used to win no no win no win uh sorry he used
To win NE no peace prize and he also used to be nominated as a Noble Peace Bri winner for several times so today this morning I would like to show you the vision of him the face of God the world is our house and all human beings our brothers and
Sisters to love them to help them to serve them is our duty and our religion like you see in the picture this is the motto that he used for leading the peace Mar in Cambodia like you can join together the suffering of Cambodia has been
Deep and this is the local that used by the damra damra mean Walk For Peace for nonviolence for Brotherhood and even though he’s a Buddhist man he L he he led the peace March in Cambodia but he asked he call upon all religious followers to join with him in order to make peace
Now if I was that humble man of Cambodia as the Dal Lama would refer to the vulnerable Maha kosanda I would probably at this point sit down beaming with aape and meta yelling the remainder of my time to Noble silence and that would be my only verbal contribution to our August Gathering these
Days sadly I’m not Maha kosanda so I shall Ramble On allow me to humbly attempt to introduce you a most respected Elder a Cambodian Buddhist man who once said being a man means that you are peaceful you have to you have no enemy and that you are fearless when I first saw Maha
Kosanda as a young Temple boy in my home Village in 1992 he was leading the first of many damay yatra peace walks across our won warari Homeland following the signing of the parish pie of Court after nearly 30 year nearly year of War now I see the Venable mahak kosanda
Every day in spirit as he one of the spiritual patrons of Buddhist University in bamong where I am serving as president my current world how as far as I can tell you Maha kosanda was always at home in the inter denominational inter religious in First World While most Cambodian came out of
Ter Terin Buddhist tradition Maha experienced the various branches of Buddhist tree while he was a student at Nanda University in biha India it was also in India he would came to know better a Hindu World a Christian World a Muslim World on that 15 years of Journey of his life spiritual pilgrimage
Interestingly his gift of the tongue his ability to communicate uh 15 different language languages language skill was strongly encouraged at Nanda University allow him to be at home in many room of that world house however it was the universal Universal mother tongue of Silence which would
Enable Maha to come to see reality as it is and Invision reality as it mean to be indeed the world is our house with that a back needless to say Maha kosanda was no stranger Gatherings such as what we have been out this day during his lifetime he belonged to
Associate with engage in and work together with people in all fath tradition and none as the damay yatra showed us Maha was always willing to walk to areas of strife conflict to places where the suffering is deep simply because that is what the Lord Buddha did Maha would say we Buddhists must
Find the courage to live our Temple and enter the Temple of Human Experience Temple that are fill with suffering if we listen to the Buddha Jesus Christ Muhammad or Gandhi we can do nothing else The Refuge cames the prisons the GTO the battlefield will then become our Temple we monks must answer the
Increasing love cries of suffering we have so much work to do of course it is one experience of suffering the experience of other suffering as well as the suffering of the Earth itself which teaches one compassion Maha said the suffering of Cambodia is but a mirror of the but a
Mirror of the suffering of the world the Buddha explained that the suffering teach us compassion whenever I think about the suffering of the Comm people I am filled with compassion Maha would say sorry the most vulnerable Tean a contemporary of Maha kosanda Vietnamese Buddhist man whose compassion was shaped
Formed F by the cruelty of war in his homeland would go so far as to say without suffering there is no compassion at the same time Maha kosa would stress that in face of suffering compassion was enough he would remind us of the need for compassion and wisdom to work
Together for having with compassion one can walk very eloquently indeed he would often physically demonstrate the Greatful in his public talks to who the point even further Maha said compassion without wisdom can cause great suffering while Maha kosanda might not say much in words at dialogue such as these days
Especially in his later years he certainly spoke by his very present of the importantance of our coming together Maha would clearly of believed that when we accept that we are part of a great Human family that every man every woman has nature of the Buddha Allah Christ then we will sit
Talk make peace and bring humankind to itat it fully FL flowering Maha for Maha kosanda this dialogue were to take place over every level of society interaction and activity our life journey is to be one in which we seek awaken the Buddha nature the cry nature burning light of Peace in all
People one of the more memorable Buddhist Christian dialogue which Maha was involved in was at gim many encounter which took place at the trapist monastery which was the home of the well-known trapist man Thomas mton I believe it is safe to say the root the origin of that encounter grew out of
Friendship of the Thomas mton and the Del L some 30 years earlier the Dal Lama would later reflect that this counter of dedicated M none and L spiritual practitioners of the two- fa tradition was Pro that the purpose of religion is not to build a beautiful churches Temple temples all temples it
Is to cultivate positive human quality such as tolerance generosities and love fundamental to Buddhism and Christianity indeed to a very major world religion is the belief that we must reduce our selfishness and serve others for the world is our house one of the participant of the C uh cimon
Encounter as Jam W man a Benedictine mon he had to say of Maha looking at venerable Maha kosanda one has the impression that not only his smile but his whole body is radiant it seems as if his skin has been washed so clean that it shines one can
Only wonder that this man has seen what he experien of the terrible Killing Fields at his hometown one thing is obvious whatever his experience has been it has brought for the extraordinary growth in the spiritual life Maha kosanda was one asked directly by Scott Han for PE book
Future of Peace do you have a message for all religion about how we can work together better the good vulnerable responded Yes we want to work together better we want to work together better we must have four feet on standing to standing to stand on he said pointing to a table the
First leg is loving kindness meta the second leg is compassion garuna the third one is Joy muda the last one is equanimity Oba and this is something called religions can agree upon was hand quick followup question yes those are four face of God the V the the je we say in
French we can all agree on these things those four faces are ones all known to all Cambodians at the main gate of anot within ano complex there is a beautiful sculpture it is very large with four faces gessing out four directions the forace stand for the great quality of Buddha loving kindness compassion sympathetic joice and Equanimity the forace of Buddha the forace of God Maha
Call this the nearly forgotten secret to Cambodia uh CET pie in Cambodia if one were wait for Venable Maha kosanda to in 8 elucidate to lay out a 10 point plan or present an academic treaties on his vision of interreligious collaboration for healing a wounded world and the Earth One my
Wait a long time but if but if one was searching for ones who embody his Buddha his Christ his Allah Natures waiting for for one who saw this world with faces of God for one who through years of deep silence meditation and prayer learn to see with eyes of the
Heart for one who would walk toward those area of our wounded world where the suffering remains so deep and walk away for One who out of silent of nothingness would speak a word which freeze and be about deep which liberate people from their suffering then we would invite Maha kosanda to just be among us as we went about the proceeding and we all home with interesting and funny story about our cter
That humble of among of Cambodia but realizing this one this one embodies what we are so stri to express he does it without words without time limit even without footnotes the reason is to be be the Buddha be the Christ be the prophet which we find in our dam
In our scripture in our holy books in so being we will awaken in spirit of aape the spirit of Kara meta which already dwell in every human heart the vision is to be faithful to the spiritual tradition one walk in let the true of One Faith Lie the path
Being true true to what one has been given listening deep in the same silent where Buddha Jesus Christ Prophet Muhammad discovered reality is it is and reality is mean to be the vision is to be what we truly are though we speak of it in different tongue communic at it with different
Terms we listen in the same silence we share a Oneness which is fearless formless beyond words Beyond speech Beyond concept Thomas mutton on his final spiritual pilgrimage to Asia he died in Bangkok in 1968 at an interreligious gathering in Galata put it this way my dear brothers
And sisters we are already one but we imagine that we are not what we have to recover is our original Unity what we have to be is what we are then a humble mon stood up and spoke the world is our house and all human beings are our brothers and sisters to
Love them to serve them to help them is our duty and our religion then the awaken one sat down vorable young Julie I wish to yield the reminder of my time to noal silent thank you all very much thank you for your speech next let’s welcome to Venable Venable panaya lakita in
India he will introduce about vision of inter religious collation for heing proposed by dror Am first of all homage to Buddha the enlightened one gratitude to the sanha for preserving and propagating the Dharma gratefulness to all religious leaders and followers for spreading the message of love karuna and Agape the topic for my presentation today is vision of interreligious collaboration for healing as proposed by Dr edar the
Architect of Indian constitution religion is the most significant and vital element of human life religion is a construction in the human world and thereby it is the creation of man the religion whatever it be so whose Foundation should be based on moral principles should enable mankind to be empathic virtuous and
Humane on the other hand science is an exploration which unfolds the truth relating to Nature and human beings both science and religion should instigate man towards the path of Truth in life truth in religion and science should match with each other if there are contradictions in the principles of any
Faith then such religious principles should be altered to match with the science and Truth otherwise the faith will lose its utility to the society subsequently leading to Blind Faith conflicts and wars and also cause damage to the environment hence scientific temper should be cultivated to question all irrational things which damage human
Relationship that leads to conflicts in the world and overe exploitation of nature or Earth which in turn leads to Resource shortage in order to sustain life on this Earth which would consequently put a present and future generation in danger now I would like to put some ambedkar’s views on religion which are
As follows point one the function of religion ReliOn is to reconstruct the world and to make it happy and not to explain its origin and its end point two is religion must mainly be a matter of principles only it cannot be a matter of rules the moment it gen
Degenerates to degenerates into rules it ceases to be religion and it kills responsibility which is the essence of truly religious act point three I believe that religion is necessary for mankind when religion ends the society will perish too after all no government can Safeguard and discipline mankind as religion
Can now coming to the fundament principles of religion he says the first one that Society must have either the sanction of law or the sanction of morality to hold it together without either Society is sure to go two pieces in all societies law plays a very small
Part it is intended to keep the minority within the range of social discipline the majority is left and has to be left to sustain its social life by the postulates and sanction of morality religion in the sense of morality must therefore Remain the governing principle in every
Society that religion has defined in the first proposition must be in accordance with science religion is bound to lose its respect and therefore become the subject of ridicule and thereby not merely lose its Force as a governing principles of life but might be in course of time
Disintegrate and lapse if it is not in accord with science in other words religion if it is to function must be in accord with reason which is merely other name for science that religion as a code of social morality must recognized must recognize the fundamental tenants of Liberty equality and
Fraternity unless a religion recognize these three fundamental principles of Social Life religion will be doomed that religion must not sanctify or Eno poverty renunciation of riches by those who have it may be a blessed state but but poverty can never be to declare poverty to be a blessed
State is to pervert religion to perpetuate wise crime to consent to make earth a living hell so now coming to the need for interly religious dialogue at present most of the countries are encountering social conflicts within the country as well as conflicts and Wars among the countries due to social economic political and
Religious reasons if at least the causes of religious differences are eliminated then the conflict can be reduced to a certain extent for instance if people are suffering from poverty how can they be religious and law-abiding citizens as poverty may lead the people to involve in many irreligious or unethical and illegal
Activities therefore ambedkar’s words words gain High significance here which I quote the religion should not Eno poverty unquote to solve this socioeconomic problems interreligious dialogues becomes important inter religious dialogue would enable countries to prevent social conflicts within their geographical space this dialogue would also avoid Wars among the countries and would
Establish Universal peace Harmony tolerance and ultimately Brotherhood hence interreligious dialogue is also helpful to preserve this Earth for future generation for which the following factors for interreligious dialogues can be suggested point one to make religion suitable for healthy human living point two to resolve the conflicts between or among religious religions and
Countries point three to reform the religions in accordance with truth and science as well as time and circumstances point four to guide the followers of religion to adopt right path of harmonious living five to eradicate Global suffering due to ignorance and poverty six to establish fraternity among various religions seven to
Maintain intergenerational equity in environment Christianity preaches agabe which is universal love that is similar to that of Buddhist Mitri which is love and friendship that is essential for the present world most of the population living in Buddhist and Christian countries are stable countries and are either developed or progressing towards
Development so that they can guide the world population for fraternity and provide Environmental Protection for the present and future gener ation in this context Buddhist and Christian dialogues become significant world is facing ignorance poverty inequality and exploitation along with that the population of the globe is encountering social conflicts and
Wars so that the global population is agitated due to overe exploitation of Natural Resources religion as part of human life can play a major role in healing this wounded world and Earth as Dr edar advocated religion should be built upon morality and Science and also that religion is essential for human
Life in his entire life this great Democratic leader struggled against all types of exploitation of people and died as a Buddhist follower as Buddhism follows the principles of karona and MRI that is compassion and friendship Buddhism is open to interreligious dialogue over healing the the wounded populance and
Earth finally to conclude Dr edar says I quote it pains me to see youths growing indifferent to religion religion is not opium as it is held by some what good things I have in me or whatever have been the benefits of my education to society I owe them to the religious feelings in
Me I want Rel religion but I do not want hypocrisy in the name of religion unquote so religion is not East or West religion is not better or best religion is a moral test religion is to practice karuna agepe at its best thus Buddha the guide to humanity thought dhama to experience reality
He said not to be obsessed with materiality but to practice the path of spirituality and this path he said is none other than the path of karuna agape and morality so come let us all practice karuna agape and morality to heal the wounds of Earth and Humanity with that I conclude thank [Applause]
You thank you for your speech next uh let’s welcome to vorable banaya lak in India he will introduce about vision of inter religious collaboration foring proposed by Dr eka father poine is talking about the Pop’s engagement in this world thank thank you very much well I want to thank now the moderator
Also to thank those who organized this uh colloquium and in a very special way I think I should thank thank monor indunil because this topic somehow he was the one who suggested it and then when I came here brother SW told me you have 15 minutes and you wrote so many pages how
Would you do and I said I can promise you I will not read them because I assume that maybe those will be interested um they can read them I will simply share what thinking in the context of this um meeting this Gathering and having encouraged having been encouraged
Not to think about Pope Francis the Insight that I got of so I’m talking about him in the vision of Pope Francis Medical for healing a wounded world and the Earth our session here is talking about a vision and we had to talk about person who has been carrying out a vision that
Can be proposed as a model for interreligious cooperation for the healing the a wounded world and the Earth and then my first idea was what’s a vision it includes ideas that motivate action that bring about a change also attitude to embody what is aspired and um that can help transform problem into
Opportunities and then thinking about that the person that demand the man who came to my mind or this Argentinian uh he catholic christian uh be became a Jesuit he was Archbishop of buo and then um he also became a pope so I wanted to think about him the way
Looking at how he has been talking he talk about illness of the humanity he talk about the illness of Earth and then I found that he’s proposing medication so the idea immediately came to me to think of him not only as a pop but a man in a lab court so a
Physician and as a physician I was trying not to see that in his language um he’s how he’s embodying that fact of being a physician so basically what physician do well we can see from these images um as a physician he sees the evil that is in the
World he speaks about them figuratively as sickness and he proposes way he does a diagn notic something that is very special about him is that his diagnostic he says it is nourished by the light and the strength of the holy spirit so it is not a common diagnostic of any
Physician but it is something that he has also a religious Dimension and in because of this the way of talking about illness they are not only um physiological illness they are also it is an analogical way of speaking of illness and so the solution that that are proposed they do not only
Heal physical illness but also the analogical the root causes of the illness that we find in the world um and here I’m talking he offers Diagnostics not autopsy diagnosis because the person is sick our world is sick our Earth is sick but there is a hope the difference between a diagnosis
And autopsy an autopsy is done on somebody who’s already dead basically you find the reason why that person died but the situation is irreversible whereas here we’re talking about diagnosis means that there are something that we can do about it and so when we look I thought that maybe uh this now
When I captured this image that it was very strong because I found that many of the uh the saying of the the writing of Pope you find medical languages well also through the picture that we saw in the other presentation we have seen him visiting the hospital uh
Talking to sick people but uh there are many of the this medical language being spoken about he can apply to different sectors uh just not to give example but there are many examples in the in the article that we have in in on page from page 52 now
To the end of the booklet that you have economy the society and environment in which we are living in are unhealthy due to many factors an economy of exclusion and inequality it kills in many ways by setting unsustainable competition wherein the powerful feed on the powerless by reducing people to Mere consumers Goods
To be used and then discarded by excluding the masses who fail to enter in the system by creating Outcast and social leftovers the same a sick economy the economy that kill that exclude that pollutes that produces war is not an economy others call it economy but it is only a
Void an absence it is a disease a perversion of the economy itself and of its vocation these are the words not the his way of speaking about uh things and so we have also when speaking about La SE about the planet no the planet in which we are living um the
Planet it is sick no it’s like a patient in need of care and so there are analysis not the whole encyclical as we’ll be talking about we’ll be mentioning them we’ll be showing this I need to I add a little bit of speed so that we can have more time not
So because of this I start looking at what he has been writing and saying as a medication so what a doctor does he sees a sickness he looks for the reason he analyzes he tries to understand why is the person sick but then he has to write
The medication and in this way I I see the encyclical that to see I read it as a medical prescription which has concrete indication on how we can bring changes not that Hill not the uh the Earth so inside of this and I think yesterday the presentation sister uh sister
Cay the one was talking about us about how she’s doing this um she’s using La see was already um is putting into practice this ecolog iCal recipes that we find in this uh uh in this encyclical we also have another document for the healing for the healing the human uh the
The wounds in the humanity I consider the Declaration of Human fraternity for world peace and living together as another medicine coming from the clinic of Pope Francis and um in inside their affirmation about not using religion not for war um recognizing each other as the brothers when we see that many of the
Things that are being affirmed in this document if we’ll be doing them then eventually the situation of War of tension or conflict that we have will be changing also frat I also look at it now frat I think it has more of these medical languages because also it was written during covid
The pandemic of covid um also there we find plenty of solutions and among these Solutions so social Solutions in which a dialogue social dialogue interreligious dialogue are being provided as health as recipes not for uh this this healing a healthy ecology so um concrete solution will be coming like
For instance the support for since 2021 this idea of calling religious leaders to think ahead of any of this cop uh the convention of parties so that they can bring a religious Dimension a spiritual dimension in the care of the Earth this idea is coming from Pope
Francis we had the first in 21st the second one was just held in Abu Dhabi before coming here and so these are ideas concrete ideas that are coming from what I call now the clinic of Pope Francis so the pope also has many other things like the advocacy uh he create
Movements and commission that will be implementing the ideas that are in this document there are also ongoing ongoing research and assessment uh this is how I’m looking at the latest document no La in La the last chapter what he offers is an evaluation of what has been done uh starting from cop the
Paris no the Paris convention where many things were agreed upon and then he’s telling them we’ve been agreeing many about many things but nothing is being done eventually uh a good medic a good physician he evaluates the progress of that you are doing to see how to adjust the medicine
Whether to what to reduce what to add and I can see also this in the POS in the way that Pope Francis has been uh doing in this always a religious Faith Dimension takes the upper place no God’s pracy this insistence on the fact that we are not supposed not to replace God
We have to put God at his own place because many of the crisis many of the sickness that are happening is because we are we want we intend to substitute ourselves to the place where we were not supposed to be uh we deal with the Earth as if it did not have any
Creator so and then this religious Dimension the calling not the the idea that religious leaders now they have to be all together to bring about these changes this is an tell 220 282 We Believe need not to find occasion not to speak with one another and to act together for the
Common and the promotion of the poor yes I’ll I’ll be about just conclude no so calling on these religious leaders to come together through dialogue well yes through dialogue to be able not to um to bring those changes so um a vision as I can see it it is there
Are ideas that motivate that call to action that enable people not to Aspire something that is bigger that we can not do and um it help us not to move out of our prisons and to be able to see that we can make changes and I see that Pope
Francis the way that he has been putting this his own idea about the Earth about Humanity actually he’s offering a vision that is um acting as a medic with specific methodology this seeing this analyzing this proposing concrete act which is also if you look at
It the way that we have thought this we thought about now the problem of now we look at the problem of the world of the earth we analyze them using our own tradition our own scriptures and now we are trying not to propose Solutions also looking at models that exist already
Through the people and the leaders religious images uh faces that we have so those are the model that we have gotten and which we are fostering um pop and cist our care for one another and our care for the Earth are intimately bound together we cannot separate
Them after writing this it came to my mind I just came out to realize that there was at the beginning of the 20th century a young Chinese fellow who went to Japan to study medicine because he it was so sure that at that time China wanted needed Physicians but then after a
While he realized that maybe China wanted something bigger he dropped medicine he returned and he started writing novels and the novels that he was writing there were he called them medicine that author is called L because mental nonphysiological sickness are terrible are more damaging than physiological sickness and I think this is Pope
Francis is doing to us is helping us to see the world as a medic as as a physician and so that we may be able not to see what we can do together and I want to thank again our moderator the two who have given us good example
Mahananda Amar and many other good images that have already come during this uh this uh colloquium that shows us that we are working on a diagnosis we are not doing autopsy of the Earth or the humanity and because we are doing a a diagnosis there is something better
That we can do and I hope that after this time we’ll find more time not to go and do concretize it thank you thank you for your speech last speech father po I’m sorry from now one father K will proceed with the discussion based on the presentation thank you so much vable
Baban give me this chance to moderate only five minutes we have so let me summarize what they say thank you very much vener visian and Baya and father Pauline J was inspiring stories of example uh let me summarize in one word vorable mahananda he interpret Gandhi of Cambodia Gandhi of Cambodia Peacemaker
Amca Liberator liberator of India Liberator of India Beyond Pope Francis physician physician of the world is he right okay so any questions and comments from you guys please feel free to do it yeah just raise your hand okay Dr Kevin from Singapore thank you I have a question for venerable
Vaya I have great respect for India because I’ve got many uh good friends from south of from south of India who are in Singapore speaking Indians and to my mind India is just not not just another country it’s a civilization with uh ancient religious traditions and they
Are being brought not just to Asia but to all over the world so my question is really uh with regards to the vision of uh Dr am this the first time I’m hearing about Kim how but before I bring up the question I bring another figure that I
Have great respect for is rabid tagor because in Singapore we also have Root’s name after him it’s a great literary figure in Bengali culture so my question specifically deals with how relevant are the ideas of rabindran tagor at least in his vision of uh creating poor nation of
India how relevant are they with uh the vision of uh Dr am DEA thank you no I would be more speaking on Dr ambedkar’s Vision ravindr Gandhi they all have their own Vision but uh Dr edar is the one who has suffered so he understands better the problem of the majority
Indians so and he has suffered because of a particular religion so therefore he talks of religion which is based on morality and scientific temper that is more important because most of the dogmas blind beliefs that are being spread they are also being spread in the name of religion at least in
India so therefore uh when it comes to religion people say no that is um something Beyond science and rationality you should not bring in there but Dr edar says no uh the scientific temper and rational thinking has to be brought into religion and religious scriptures
If it has to serve Humanity in its real sense that is what I want to put it in short thank you yeah isy enough so any that or else okay from Taiwan right Malaysia sorry from Malaysia if I look Chinese I’m Chinese also uh actually I was very
Impressed with the closing remark by uh father poine especially c nine and um I just would like to know further how you CED him and equiv to uh the vision of Pop Pop and uh I correct me if I’m wrong it came to me this phrase that he has always
Say am I correct that’s where you equit it he’s known ning is known as the father moderation of China thank you can you explain in English a bit what she said well the idea of not mentioning Lin Lin because he was he wanted to study um medicine but then he realized that
Mental sickness ideal when ideas are not CLE are not clear if they are sick that sickness is more terrible than physiological sickness and so he switched from doing physiological uh medicine and he started writing novels because novel know they can change the mind and uh that’s why I could make a parallel
Because in real life we’ll talk we say that Francis has never been in a hospital practicing but as we see the way that he’s doing he’s healing the mind he’s healing the way of seeing and by doing this is there is actually a bigger impact that can be
Done I’m it is my conviction that what we see today in China is actually among the biggest contributors Lin could be one among the the biggest contributors um beside not the other not not the politicians but that mind of him that kind of renovation uh because we’re
Talking about Vision so that’s why I could make that kind of a comparison thank you me very well match thank you thank you very much father poin I’ll give you last chance if I cannot ask this or comment this I cannot sleep tonight anyone okay there see Lanka from Sri Lanka ah
Venable from Sri Lanka yeah thank you very much for giving me this opportunity so I just want to I was very curious to know uh from uh Venable vinit from India I’m just pausing the question uh to be enlightened to get the knowledge of this subject uh he was talking about uh the
Vision of uh Dr edka so uh I just felt like asking uh whether I have heard to my best of knowledge that Dr ambedkar has revolutionized India to some extent so uh my question is uh has Dr ambedkar presented some insights to uh eradicate the cast discrimination uh in not only in India
But we know that cast discrimination and problems of cast system we are suffering from it from all over the world it is not confined to India in Sri Lanka and some Asian countries and some other countries we see that it is being spread like a epidemic uh all over the world so
I just I was just curious to know whether what has Dr ambedkar had said uh the his vision how to get rid of cast discrimination or this uh uh this negative cause system from this world uh if you can just Enlighten us on that subject it will be very good thank you now
Cost is something to do with the ego that’s that’s the way I want to put it or superiority uh human have this nature to show that they are superior than the others due to some or other reason and in the Indian context cast is this
Factor and I would uh try to Define cast the c a s t the first I would try to say that criminal C for criminal a for attitude s for supporting t for Terror and E for exploitation so the full form of cast is Criminal attitude supporting Terror exploitation and this cannot be
Accepted in the name of religion or in the name of anything else and that is what uh Dr edas was talking about we have to bring humanism rationalism and scientific temper even into religion because this cast Factor has been spread in the name of religion so unless we um question even
Religion if it is uh against humans against rational against sence then that should be welcomed it should not be considered as something anti-religious and that is what Dr edar tried to explain and uh ultimately he embraced Buddhism he tried to bring reforms in Hinduism but then as you
Know they find Authority in the scriptures so you can find fault but you cannot make Corrections in the scriptures so that is what he found that yes people some accept even Hindus themselves accept that cast is something wrong but then they are not in a position to make
Changes in their religious scriptures so therefore he thought uh it is better to embrace some other religion and he found that Buddhism was more human because Buddhism is human centered religion and therefore he embraced on 14th October 1956 along with the half million of his
Followers so I think uh in short what I want to say is this rational thinking scientific temper and human attitude should be brought into the religion rather than just accepting whatever is written thank you thank you very much uh I know that you are want not firing to ask more or
Comment more but we are running out of time right so thank you very much for three uh best the presenter today inspiring stories I hope your story your presentations will inspire us to brought our own stories to next meeting okay thank you very much thank you boban thank you thank you very
Much for all uh for moderators and all speaker in this sessions so we come to an end of the program so we have a break to to adjust the the stage and then preparing for the um for the uh closing ceremony also we would have the three planting ceremony together so now we
Have a break uh around 20 minutes we will come back on time please be on time 10:30 thank you very much f my com I the for for okay yeah okay thank you for out ceremony so right now I would like to invite on so he already on the state by
Father Roco for the last session please thank you Father so good morning everyone uh before we start just to leave time to everybody to settle and gain awareness of where we are uh may I have see the hands of the presenters of the various groups if they are present or stand we
One two three 4 okay he I think we still have 10 groups or the number has changed okay so I’m going to ask you um not to wait to be called when your time for presenting comes just be ready at the stage you can come up already so
That we can proceed because every group cannot be given more than 3 minutes if we want to be more or less on schedule uh I think love can be expressed in very simple signs and be attentive to each other can be done by no helping each
Other to keep the the time so as father mentioned before I’m going to somehow moderate this session uh there will be first an introduction I will share some thoughts then the presentation of the groups and then I have been asked to read the final statement of the
Colloquium then I will hand over the U the microphone to father again for the vote of thank so um I would like to start very simple with some final thoughts at the end of the Symposium in the program you have synthesis of the Symposium now you
Understand that that is not what we can do in 10 minutes so first of all my name is Father Rocko vivano I’m a member of the saaran society for foreign Mission we’re called We’re known as Miss sarian missionaries and we’re not very numerous but I’m working in Japan and I have the
Grace from God of being of having been engaged in interreligious dialogue both at the Practical level and at the theological level for over 25 years it started before my ordination during my formation and over these 25 years I’ve come to recognize that interreligious dialogue is actually a vocation within
My particular missionary vocation that God has given to me so I speak as a priest as a Catholic who is strongly passionate about interreligious dialogue so you will understand the perspective cannot be objective you will no you know who I am and you may make sense of some
Of my observations today that was the first point second what is the purpose of this sharing it’s only 10 minutes it’s already N9 this sharing it’s impossible to make a synthesis to make a summary of this very rich three days but it’s also not necessary I don’t think we need the
Summary made by someone else I think the homework that we take home from here is that each one of us must make their own synthesis take from this very rich experience one point or two points one point that can become inspirational or a point of reference for our journey
Forward so it’s a very humble goal but is I think if we manage to do that to take away one or two insights and use them and make them a source of strength for our future journey I think the event has been very successful at a personal
Level but again that is the duty of each one of us so what I can do I can only share with you what I take uh away from this experience in the hope that may be of some kind of inspiration or useful to you so I’m going to speak about I’m
Going to mention three points that have these are points ideas that have resonated with me from the talks from the testimonies particularly resonated with me that were either expressed explicitly or between the lines so things that maybe were taken for granted but that underlied all the testimonies and the the the sharings
That we have heard during these days so I have three points the first one I have summarized with the expression commitment rooted in faith it has clearly emerged from all the speeches and all the sharings that both for the Christian and the Buddhist perspective sensitivity to the sufferings of others
And a sense of responsibility towards that suffering is rooted in faith a sense of responsibility in the sense of responding I think it is because of our faith of our religions that we feel responsible called to not not to be indifferent but that we have to respond
To address the issue so the idea that I Shar that I think I I want to share with you is that it is clear for all of us that our commitment to Healing to contributing to the healing of the world people all beings all phenomena we call
It we call it Creation in the Christian tradition and it’s rooted and it’s an integral aspect of our being religious persons now religious person in general I mean persons For Whom the faith is important people who have embraced a religion who have made that religion the path a point of reference for their
Lives who give a significant space in their lives to that religion for me this is the religious person for whom religion is not an optional but something necessary needed like the bread we need to be alive and to survive so what makes us sensitive to the suffering and what moves us towards
Addressing the suffering is our faith respective Faith commitments now my point is we are all thinking father we know already yes but there is a difference when things are taken for granted and when they are actually voiced make explicit and it’s the differ between them remaining at the
Level of ideas and to the level of bearing fruit no my point is I really believe that the more we become aware that commitment to Healing the sufferings of others and of the world is rooted in our faith the more we are aware of this the more we will be able
To take away not only from this colloquium but from interreligious dialogue in general it is to do with our capability for receiving now at a very very minimum level we can go away from this colloquium with plenty of ideas at the minimum level we have exchanged ideas concrete ways why
Whereby we can heal help he the healing of society but I think the more we become aware that our commitments are rooted in our faith and are the fruit of our religious beliefs we can go away as better persons we can become better persons because when I see others that
Others actions of love and compassion towards others actually stem from their religious belief their commitment to to a life that is beyond our grasp that is when the other becomes a mirror for me and helps me inspires me to go back to the roots of my own faith and re find
Once again the motivations the methods the ways and the attitudes to be myself an actor someone who acts in respons to the sufferings and this is I think the best most beautiful Grace that can come from interreligious dialogue and in the in the well known at least in the Catholic
Community document a dialogue and Proclamation and number 41 is exact this is exactly what is taught by the Catholic church in that particular paragraph that paragraph not this may sound scary to someone says the purpose of interreligious dialogue is conversion but it’s not talking about the conversion from one religious to
Another he’s talking about the conversion of the heart the turning the heart once again towards God or the transcended reality to whom we entrust ourselves and go back to the roots of our faith as better religious person and as better human beings and I think that
Is what we can and try to do from so but it depends on how much we keep in mind that our actions are actually rooted and stemming from our religious commitments the second point is connected directly to the first I called it for to just to find an expression
Tending our spiritual Roots the level of spirituality we do agree that the origin of all sufferings of people of the world is the heart is the heart not in general is the heart when the heart is not enlightened when the heart is not filled with God is Not
Guided by the light of God the unenlightened heart produces suffering gives suffering to others and on the contrary when the heart is enlightened when the heart is oriented towards what Christians call God then it says that the heart instead of being a source for suffering becomes a source of healing
And not only healing a source of growth a source of encouragement an a source of energy to be shared with everyone in the keynote address monor indon the other day mentioned recalled a very important memorable statement by Benedict the 16 Pope Benedict he said that the external deserts are growing
Because the internal deserts have become so vast now the desert is a symbol every culture understand the symbol of the place where life is if not impossible very very difficult a place where life you can survive but you can’t really Thrive as a person as a human being so
But I would like to mention just something about the context in which Benedict the 16th made that statement it was the context of the homy or his first mass at the beginning of his pipal ministry we go back to April 2005 in that mass Pope Benedict explained the
Meaning of the two symbols that are given to the pope at the beginning one of these symbols is called the pum the palum is a piece of clothing it’s item of clothing similar to a scarf something you wear on your shoulders but it what is important is the material is made of
Wool from lambs and he connected that to use that to explain what is the purpose and the meaning of the ministry of the Pope the role of the Pope not just for the Catholic Church church but for entire Humanity as well is the pope is the Good Shepherd he said that there are
The the palum becomes a symbol for the shepherd’s Mission the pastor must be inspired by Christ for him is not a matter of indifference there so many people are living in the desert there are so many kinds of deserts the desert of poverty hunger thirst abandonment loneliness but there were also the
Internal deserts of the absence of God the darkness that comes when God is not present in our lives the EMP emptiness of souls no longer aware of their dignity and of the goal of human life the point of the statement mentioned by monor inil is that for Benedict 16 is
The transformation of the external deserts can only begin with the transformation with of the Interior internal deserts if we want this external transformation to be lasting and effective not just temporary so the healing of humanity this a key implication starts with the healing of the with the with the transformation of
The internal deserts it must start there in Hearts where God is not present either because hearts are more focused and filled with other things but also simply because those hearts have never known God the source of true life and they’re waiting for someone to tell them
To show them to point out to them you know there is a much much more valuable and fulfilling happiness that is available to you so that is where we start and there are two practical aspects one is the deepening of our faith I do strongly believe that we can
Effectivly and lastingly do something concrete to alleviate and resp to the sufferings of others only if become we start from the commitment to deepen our own faith commitment because without strong roots our efforts will fade out will finish it’s only by constantly feeding drinking from the source that we
Can continue and persevere in a tasks that are demanding and difficult that are not humanly possible the second aspect is a bit more maybe complicated deeper it’s about constantly monitoring our own motivation purify them why am I helping the poor because motivations can change I can start with the right foot
But then along the way they may change I need to monitor them because am I doing it really out of Selfless Love or am I doing it because I want to feel better about myself this feeling better about myself is not good because it the expression the love
That it express will be a love that still needs purification and is not the love that actually can contribute to the real uh healing and full healing of humanity the last Point has to do with interreligious dialogue uh in general and this also comes with a bit of a of a
Challenge for myself but I want really want to share it and turn it also to all all of you here I think and I strongly believe that after so many years of engagement at least from the Catholic point of view and also no this is the seventh colloquium of this series I
Think that the time has come at least for those people who have been involved on the Journey of interreligious dialogue for a significant time time of of their lives the time has come to start focusing on our differences now father what are you saying of course focusing on differences
Obviously is not advisable at the beginning of the first stages of dialogue but I think we have reached now a sufficient level of mutual trust or maturity in this journey that we are now ready to start talking about differences about what makes us unique because if we are the same I have
Nothing to learn from you and you have nothing to learn from me is precisely from what we have that is unique that we can really learn from each other and we can help each other on the Journey of Faith on the journey forward and also in
Our actions for the to contribute to the healing of all Humanity the more we are capable of entering this new level of interreligious Engagement and we are ready for it I believe it the the whole of humanity and the world will certainly benefit from from it in ways may be
Unknown to us but God will know how to use that as a strength for Renewal healing and and salvation for everyone and so I would like to conclude just by wishing all the best to all of you as as we go back to our own places and
Hopefully see you all at our next appointment that I hope will be announced soon thank you very much now I think we start immediately with the feedback from the from the groups so please all the representatives uh take courage come you come over don’t wait for me to call you
Because otherwise it would take ages all the representatives from the group please we can be here at the back and support each other so I will kind each one of you to say your name your country uh the country you’re coming from and proceed with your
Sharing um ideally we have 3 minutes the bell will ring at two minutes 30 seconds I don’t have the power to kill you if you are late but you know let’s try to to keep it simple thank you very much group number good morning everyone my name is Jamie Shay I’m here for
Wadson World Education Foundation um I came from London um our foundation is headquartered in Taiwan my mom came from Taiwan I’m very happy to be here with everybody so um without further Ado here is our group One summary of our discussion so the first question was named the human and ecological wounds
That exist in your country and so these are are the ones we came up with hierarchical systems and discrimination um wounds of the past like war and genocide low education levels inflation long-term political tensions drug addiction corruption ethnic tensions inter religious tensions and conflict and also communication issues and Miser
Understanding the second question is uh the role of Christian Buddhist collaboration in addressing wounds in Benny and um so generally the agree uh the consensus of another has been a pretty good uh collaboration amongst Christians and Buddhists uh across all the countries um represented in our group and the benefits include poverty
Alleviation educational and social Aid programs spiritual and psychological healing parity Works improved understanding youth programs Mutual communication acceptance and collaboration collaborative search for for justice and healing and also Mutual kindness feature plans for Christian and Buddhist collaboration and this includes continued participation in and organization of interreligious dialogue in the various countries strengthen
Existing groups and dialogue by helping one another increasing involvement of Catholics in interreligious dialogue and also spreading the word of the Pope’s 2019 document on human fraternity and and living together the next question was how to increase involvement of women and youth in interreligious dialogue and this includes holding seminars workshops and
Lectures including dialogue in educational curriculums starting groups on interreligious dialogue explain and increase awareness of the importance of interreligious dialogue create space and opportunities for women in interreligious dialogue that treat them fully introduce interreligious dialogue within the context of social justice issues and also um getting to know one’s
Own religion first and then encouraging Open Hearts and learning and acceptance of other religions um also the next question concrete actions for protecting the Earth includes planting trees fostering an appreciation of Nature and children enhancing recycling efforts teaching children simple steps for Environmental Conservation and school tools reuse and
Donation of goods reduce the use of plastics and creating space for and encouraging natural burials the last question is um ideas about inspiring stories about healing and Humanity in Earth this would include as suggestions on stories about rainwater harvesting connecting rivers recounting of personal experiences and examples of people who are doing good
Work sharing stories about everyday people making an impact for example about ing trees examples of interconnectedness of humanity nature and the Earth and also uh finally last but not least retelling stories about love and compassion such as the stories of Jesus Christ and Buddha and so just
On a personal not I just want to say thank you very much it’s so lovely to meet everybody much say um we have a small gift uh it’s a dove of Peace pin and the staff has cently appre uh offer to distribute them after the group photo as everyone’s exiting for lunch
Thank you thank you very much good morning everyone so I uh represent group two and group five because we are so few so we combine together so for um the question that we receive we discuss in our group and um name the wound of the human and ecological that existing context so we
Talk a lot about the problem nowadays especially the problem of um committing suicide no because in all over the world we have heard we have seen and also in Asia now so I think this is a very big problem so how can we we try to help
Them we have many ways to help them but I I think that important thing is also that we can collaborate more together um we if we are even though we are different religions but we can collaborate and we can uh give a hand not to resolve this problem together for
The ecological wound it’s I think it’s more lacking of awareness and consciousness of taking care of environment and nature also there are another the problems like pollutions deforestation and the others so if we try really to put into practice what uh Pope Francis said about the LA
Toi and witness to the world that we also can love the world we try to not to destroy the nature but love and respect uh the nature so I think if each one of us in each the region try to live it and uh put into practice our
Teaching then we can help the world we can love the world and how the second uh question we also can uh strengthen education in the family and school especially in Morality we need to transform our of uh our Consciousness collaborate more among the regions create activities together especially to help
Those who suffer in many ways like uh those who suffer in uh nature uh disasters not refugees or uh whatever and and uh for the future plan we think that we have to strengthen the Buddhist Christian friendship and collaboration our various formal events in connecting with each other among
Buddhist Christian is an essential and necessary start however it should serve as an impetus to further deepening of report not only official but also personal and Intergroup report this is in line with the church exhortation for the dialogue of life which is an indispensable basis of all
Of other form of dialogue so I think that uh we uh we can from here I think that our Symposium is not finished here but we can go into the world and witness what we have learned here to to live in our religions and it’s possible for us even though we are
From every religions but we can live together and witness to the world and be open our heart uh like one of uh our group said that a father from Benedictine from Korea he said uh they have a retreat house but it became small already now we
Have to build and make a big big project to open wide and embrace to all people all Humanity even though they come from other religions but this is to witness to the world that we can live together we can build Unity together unity in the diversity and I would like to finish
Uh that we are one world one family so that we are brothers and sisters like uh Pope Francis said in frat so our witness will show the world that we are one world one family and we care for one another thank you much thank you very much thank you groups three and four
That doesn’t mean you have twice the time good morning my name is Luigi Bui I was was born in Italy by then based here in Thailand and uh in our group that we are we are coming from many countries we stress very much I don’t tell you the
Questions because all of you know what we were talking about that we are in a world that is experiencing Solitude loneliness people are committing suicide we have a very big problem in society where people can live up to more than 80 years like in Taiwan we have a very
Strong strong experiences and people feel alone lonely abandoned so we have a commitment um that we we have a light that we can give to these people and we we we are in a certain sense like we have a mission to bring the light of the
Colloquium to the to our society and to instruct Catholics and Buddhists uh about the interreligious dialogue that is like a a um a medicine a very very good medicine a light that we can bring in our society uh there are existing many um experiences and what we
Heard from father Olivier in Cambodia is a very beautiful experience successful here in Thailand also there are there is an atmosphere that is very favorable to the inter users dialogue Buddhist monk have welcome Catholics since 1997 or as example for our experience with K luik
And one of the M uh pran Tong s mangalo he said when you are in darkness and there is a light coming you don’t ask he a man are you a man are you a women are you a child uh but you take that light and you go out of darkness no
So that’s what we heard in these days and that I think that each one of us can go uh back to uh to our country we are very convinced I mean to go ahead with this experience even the experience of of uh for example of of um in Mongolia between the
Catholics and the Muslim and in the future um there will be this experience with the Buddhist in the uh Caritas Center no we are very hopeful that uh the coll op will have a great impact uh maybe not loud uh silent impact but effective impact in our society thank you very much
Sh actually I’m from uh group six and eight we had to combine because we didn’t have enough my name is Kevin I’m from Singapore I’ll do a bit a little differently because we have heard most of the solutions what I’d like to do is to point out the unique differences in
Some of the countries and I would spend a bit more time on this wounds be ecological or Humanity but for ecological wounds there are two countries that that uh really stand out for their problems uh one of them is Cambodia and the other is Malaysia in Cambodia there’s a misuse of freshwater
Lake now as we know um in Cambodia freshwater lake is connected to meong River through 100 kilomet long hongle sa River and that supports more than 3 million people and promotes 75% of the country’s annual Eland fish catch but it’s in serious trouble today why firstly illegal fishing secondly increasing number of Upstream
Hydroelectric DS thirdly throwing of plastic bags and fourthly global climate change now in Malaysia uh there’s a problem of deforestation a problem that also affects Indonesia now in Malaysia 34% of the global palm oil occurs there and cutting down trees are M used for creating paper so one of the um and this
Contributes to one of the causes for global warming now the other type of wound that is um prominent in um at least among the representative of our group are the human wounds and to today some of these human wounds are open wounds in the metaphorical sense in need
Of deep healing so there are five countries here that I want to mention firstly north northern part of Cambodia landmines are being left behind 4 million explode unexploded landmines were recovered during the years of 1992 and 2018 and the Dem mining effort is still ongoing I I said is open wound because
Many who were left physically impaired and destroyed by these landmarks are not only affected physically but also mentally and emotionally now in Sri Lanka the Civil War that lasted over 20 years between 1983 and 2009 between the singal dominated government and the LT Army has resulted in a displacement of
800 th 800,000 families and many missing children from LTT Army today many of the affected families are still waiting for their missing children to come back to them and for justice to be done separatism is a problem Indian tamas are not Sri Lankans even though they speak tamama and we all
Know from the recent U Eastern Easter Sunday attack in 2019 which was a coordinated terrorist attack have left more than 300 people killed so the problems of corruption which we heard um affect countries like Malaysia where there’s also a disparity in race and religion privileges are only
Left for Muslims and Chinese Indians are left out in Japan there is a problem of what M Teresa calls the leprosy of the West loneliness many have died alone now um I will just go straight to the um what can we do to protect the Earth uh because of time shortage the um
Essentially what we are promote we are advocating is a time of prayer a word day of prayer as for the care of creation of 1 of September or a season of to to recall the beauty of creation restore planet Earth as our common home first September first fourth of October for example
Um and lastly for inspiring stories I think we all agree that U it’s a t order to try to reach um to be like Saints we have had many Saints being mentioned mother teresas and many other Saints from Buddhist tradition but what we really Advocate really is the inspiring stories of day-to-day life
People who are in need of you know who your neighbor is because someone might just be on the verge of committing suicide going down to prison ministry which I’ve not seen up there but prison ministry also offers another opportunity because many of these hardened criminals have never seen loving eyes looking at
Him or her so just a moment of U life taken away I mean I heard this from one of my nuns religious Catholic nun telling me that look into my eyes because in Singapore there is death sentence so the N told the criminal look into my eyes at least the last human
Face you’re going to see is my loving eyes and that should be the face that you should take with you before you die there thank you thank you very much group number seven and excuse me let me intervene a little bit you to please very brief thank you yes we’re trying
Father good morning to everyone in our group we were five from different context one is working in Thailand one in Cambodia two in Japan and one in Mongolia so first of all we are grateful for all the speeches and the precious experiences of life that have been shared
And for our common commitment to journeying karuna and Agape with the banded Humanity so thank you so much for these days in all our realities we we listen loudly the cries of wanted Humanity the cries of poverty human traffic many kinds of addiction lack of work Forest disappearing family Pro problems chical
Radiation pollution and refugees our humanity is crying a lot then we we saw the necessity of a a dialogue in action to be together to do something to to heal these heart that are crying then we were reflecting uh about how we can do and how okay we can
Involve Youth and women so we want to share with you that now one year ago the dicastri for the interreligious dialogue create a kind of group of women of different religions in order to think about a network that can unite them and so a network that is born from
This Symposium so create a new mentality and trying to connect and journey together also women then we saw the the centrality of relationship know monor Rosano was saying that the inter religious dialogue is not dialogue among religions but is a dialogue among people that are following different religions
So we can put at the center the relationship of Life friendship but also create space to reflect together to live together but uh also educ at it and organize meeting go deeper in the knowledge of different values and this is very important also for our youth no
We have to accompany them and promote them also to discover their own identity values and to overcoming some ideas to strengthen the identity forming conscience to meeting the other or closing Journey with them dialogue of life but also of deepen knowledge about values so thank you so much let’s work
Together and do something good for our wounded Humanity thank you very much so now we have group eight nine oh the eight was combined with the six I’m Venable maharam I represent Sri Lanka uh now I’m representing the group nine and I’m giving the feedback my group did consist of uh members from
Malaysia Sri Lanka and Thailand the key question was what are the wounds problems conflicts be uh be them human or ecological that exist in our context we identified in our discussion uh the human wounds uh first is the misunderstanding between individuals and different groups of people Nations subcontinent
Continents Etc and also the second one is the distortions of religious con Concepts purposeful misinterpretations of verbatim teachings of religious teachers and there result in prejudices and the like so these are the main two human wounds that we identified and then we discussed how to heal the human
Wounds so we proposed we should teach people not to be judgment to they should not rush into conclusions merely based on what they always see for an instance in social media I I remember I recall one of the uh philosophical uh thoughts it says means this itself is a truth and
Everything else is false we should not go by these kind of judgments and also we propose we should take measures to Enlighten people people how to assimilate important religious teachings for for an example the five precepts in or in Pila in Buddhism and four cardinal virtues in Christianity and make use of
Them contextually and wisely without being too emotional and then we found out uh what are the ecological wounds perceptual and purposeful exploitation of the nature resource natural resources of Mother Earth by the man this is the first one and uh also we discussed what is the reason behind those ecological
Wounds then we identified the average man is always driven by the wants but not the needs he cannot properly differentiate between needs and wants owing to his innate insatiable nature to which we call craving or tanha in Pali Buddha says notti tanha Sama nadii which stands for there’s no giant or powerful
River like craving which is in an unending Flux Of momentary change and also the great Mahatma Gandhi g once said the world is sufficient for needs of all but not enough for the wars of one’s craving so then we discussed how to heal the ecological wounds as religious leaders and guides we should
Educate people about the importance of uh contentment and satisfaction one should be satisfied with what one has we should uphold the teachings of moderation satisfaction empathy Etc we should always think that we are just a part of the environment a cog in the machine when the cogs of a cog wheel
Have not meshed well together the gears will keep slipping the late uh red Indian Chief Seattle once said whatever befalls to the Earth soon it befalls to the sons of the earth everything is connected we have to think that way the middle path taught in terada teachings
Uh teaches us how to avoid extreme and embrace the moderation the optimal position before doing an action while doing before doing an action while doing and after doing an action we should contemplate on the possible consequences of the same then we discuss what are the future plans uh to strengthen the
Buddhist Christian friendship and collaboration I’ll uh end my speech by this then we suppose we propose Interfaith dialogues continuously and conferences like this and partaking religious ceremonies of other religions on a regular basis and best serving upon the priority to action rather than discussion uh or talking as we witnessed
Yesterday what uh uh Bishop Olivia did his in presentation in Cambodia and I’ll uh stop my uh speech with this Buddhas c one who protects oneself protects others similarly one who protects others protects oneself thank you thank you very much our final group number 10 good morning everyone I’m prago from
Singapore representing group 10 um basically the first two questions on ecological and human wounds are mostly answered by yesterday today’s panel extensively so I’ll just skip to number three the third question on future plans to strengthen Buddhist Christian Fellowship so our group mentions again similar with the bante uh more dialogue
And colloquium so keep up the good work uh also have more platforms such as um this in World Interfaith Harmony week to celebrate diversity uh give space to all religions to share their faith and clear their misconceptions uh that’s for external internally we should do more self-improvement do more
Reflection and discover and Find meaning in why we are doing this no Find the meaning in serving others so that’s the key takeaway for the first day uh second day uh involvement with the youth and women uh with we combine the first two questions so um mainly we have we should
Create more activities common activities where the elderly and the young can participate and the women men um mainly such as eating together so eat together can dialogue uh uh for youths they should have more activities that uh suit their levels so such as games movies uh and kind of discussion after the movie
Theme and um create platform for young people and women so for panels such as this it’s good to have uh reserve a certain portion for women to take their place uh to represent women and for the Youth it’s good to give them space to run the activities so for the elders we
Can just give them a direction and when they carry out the activities if they make mistakes then uh they can look for the elders for advice so it’s like taking care of children uh if we over control them they might be rebellious so uh that’s for the
Youth uh and also it’s important to create topics in such platforms of existential problems such as life and death so it will attract people of all belief system is not just for the Buddhist and Christians people who are atheist non-religious they’re also interested right so uh that’s all for my
Group uh for my group members forgive me if I miss out any points due to time constraint thank you thank you very much now I have an apology for the presenters you still have number nine oh addition I’m father Johan from Sri Lanka hi I give you only 1 minute and a half
Yes yesterday’s discussion we had about this uh why women are not participating in uh this uh inter religious dialogue there are cultural barriers social hierarchy in some countries uh the women are not empowered with this uh inter Le dialogue therefore uh we identify the solutions to empower them and gender
Balance and encourage them to participate in religious uh in religious dialogue and youth less interest of Youth invol in uh inter religious dialogue and they have they do not have motivation to uh engage in inter religious dialogue and sometime uh their aspirations are not fulfilled in this uh area therefore they do not
Engage in uh inter religious dialogue so we need to educate young people and as well as the family influence will help them to engage in inter religious dialogue thank you thank you very much father so I am sorry I I let you standing here not because I want you to
Be rude because I think you deserved a big round of applause from everyone nobody wants ever to be a presenter in the group it’s a sacrifice so it’s just right that you get your St thank you very much you can may go back to your seat
Um we are still running okay we started 15 minutes later so still six minutes do I have to read the final statement what are the instructions so we don’t read the final statement just I wait for instructions okay so my task is ended and I leave it to father to go ahead
With a vote of thanks thank you very much for our attention however regarding the statement that you have um on our side of Catholics no the idea would be that we all public make it public to in our different means of publication but for us uh we are still
Waiting some of you know you know the pro the procedure that we need to get it uh the the go from the Secretariat of the Vatican we sent it yesterday with a six hours of difference we have not received it so the idea will be that you
Have it you circulate among yourself but if you can wait maybe till tomorrow then we can have it simultaneously published because by that time we also have received all the go from from the Vatican so the idea you have it you can read it you can share it
Among yourself but to put it in the website to put it in our social media if you can wait till tomorrow that will be the best is it okay thank you thank you very much now we would like we come to an end of the program um
