Okay well first of all welcome back to my channel if you’re new here this is actually part two of a series of femininity and horror games so if you haven’t seen the first part I would recommend going back and watching it uh we’re going to be revisiting a lot of
Topics that I touched on in there um and also uh anything that I have added in this video I generally put down in the description if anyone wants to read up on the things that I’m discussing I also put any amendments or anything that I forgot to say or mention in the video
While I’m recording um third of all thank you so much for the support I’ve received on this project I did not expect it I Honestly made this on a whim for me and my friends you know just girls night stuff so the fact that people are really resonating with it and
Also bringing out other perspectives to it is really means a lot especially when it gives me more things to consider and research I really do appreciate it and the fact that there’s such an overwhelming support for it I’ve just reached 10K subscribers means a lot I
Thank you guys so much it’s honestly so surreal uh once again this is going to be dealing with heavy topics um I’m going to put the trigger warnings and also the games that we’re discussing above on the screen right now so if you don’t want any spoilers or also you just
Can’t have handle heavy topics at the moment there’s no shame in that it’s going to be even more intense than the first part so that is just a fair warning and without further Ado let’s get into it the working woman has been a topic of much debate all throughout history from
Suffragettes fighting for their freedom to work and earn while po women already had to work to survive during and after abolition of the main transatlantic slave trade working nowadays can also be seen as one of the necessary rights of passages a woman can have both learning practical skills in the adult world and
Building her own Foundation For Life Julia our protagonist of vampire the masquerades Shadows of New York is a fascinating discussion and interrogation of the modern working woman had their space in growing Society is not always designed for their presence in certain spaces in game Julia starts off her
Story as a struggling journalist put on an impossible story and given an even more impossible ask her bre editor Brian wants her to drop a story she’s been working on for months exposing Jesse Montgomery a racist corporate fraud and an abuser who has used his power to pray
On his employees her editor isn’t the one who wants to protect the abuser but his superiors who don’t want to deal with the legal threats that they have been facing despite the maintenance of evidence Julia is enraged that everyone cares more about money their mortgage and the status quo than doing what is
Actually right because Julia is so unwilling to protect an abuser she is fired from her job as a journalist Julia worked her way up from nothing for this job which in the beginning she didn’t even really want she realized the jobs in her office wouldn’t be open to her
The men in her office having such an ingrain relationship and path to success that they wouldn’t be open to anyone else so she turns her talents to investigative journalism only to be given a story to work on that was basically impossible to come out on scath her morals or her job one would
Have to go scrutinized my favorite game of reflex Studios goes fully into the intersection of choosing between your morals the danger of being a woman in the male dominated and dangerous profession and how you have to work twice as hard to achieve half Luna struggles navigating the justice system
As an enforcer as a woman and as the main target of the attacker’s attention there are many jokes about how the main stalker Tanner is attractive the joke online is that reflect Studios should just give to the wh of his audience and make a dating SIM for Tanner this
Attitude highlights my most interesting takeaway from scrutinized that if someone is attractive if someone who could come across as polite is more often than not given the benefit of the doubt over women it is one of the main reasons why Killers like Ed kber or Ted
Bundy got away for so long despite them exhibiting massive red flags someone who is a seemingly high replacent society as Tanner who dresses in a doctor’s Garb and seems to have an in-depth medical education can be a perfect predator one that a woman has no real recourse
Against if Society holds someone up as attractive as educated and successful modern culture has a tendency to excuse or mitigate their more harmful behaviors towards people we view as lesser than an important note of scrutinized as well is the fact that Luna is in law enforcement she is undertaking a neighborhood watch
Program due to the murder of her cousin another woman who died on the force however law in itself is an imperfect system there are limitations to what it can achieve and Luna is a very aware of these limitations people forget systems are made up of imperfect Parts an
Imperfect people in the UK in 2023 more than 1,500 police officers were accused of violence against women and girls in a six-month period these offenses range from attacks to complaints of extreme and excessive force by officers during arrest is important to note that in other forms of structure and law
Enforcement such as the Army it is more likely for men and women soldiers to be assaulted by their own side than any other side that they are fighting against we cannot Escape structural issues in any form if they are ingrained in our society and with a power imbalance similar to the one between
Tanner and Luna it forces victims to work with abusers similar to what will happen with Julia within a year Julia’s life has fallen apart and she can’t figure out why you see Julia is going through a hazing ritual her vampire Clan the lambra makes a habit of destroying
The lives of the humans they want to embrace to see whether or not that they have the lra’s trademark ruthlessness whether she can conform to the rigid ideas set by her clan will make or break her life it is much similar to how sororities and fraternities work Conformity by humiliation we saw the
Beginnings of this Conformity by humiliation in regards to the social aggression in young girls in rule of Rose now we start to see how this evolves both in Julia’s case and in real life fraternities American college sororities and fraternities for example make many young men and women pledge
Their loyalty in distasteful ways the topic of hazing is a very touchy one on many college campuses but in the world of fraternities and sororities hazing is a mandatory right of passage required of anyone who wants to enter a chapter of their choosing humiliation is the society’s weapon of choice when it comes
To instilling loyalty in people we can see this in another form of social aggression discussed in rule of Rose now with the Nuance of a more mature brain to wield cruelty and power it is often assumed that excessive hazing is a thing of the past but people fail to recognize
That there have been deaths as recent as 2018 though the fratton question was officially dismissed from the UCR campus they are still organized and have parties frequently putting so many other young adults in danger of meeting the same unfortunate fate many people will argue that these Clans and societies are
In themselves not that bad and it is just a few bad apples that Ru it for everyone but the frequent accusations of assault and numerous reports of hazing casualties suggest that these issues are indeed interwoven into the fabric of these societies lives with humiliation comes disempowerment and thus power
But with Julia’s successful Conformity to her lber clan brings me to the actual topic I want to discuss as Julia becomes the representative of her clan in Vampire camarilla court she is set with another impossible task to solve a murder that no one wants her to solve no
Matter what way you slice the task given to her by the prince of New York Julia is screwed the lambra are hated and Julia is an outsider Pawn easily discarded or so they think and thus Begins the most interesting analysis of the glass Cliff vers the growth of the
Queen bee that I’ve ever seen in a video game I’m sure you have all heard of the glass ceiling the idea that is usually applied to women or Outsiders used to represent an invisible barrier that prevents an oppressed demographic from rising Beyond a certain level in the hierarchy no matter how invisible the
Glass ceiling is expressed it is an actual obstacle that is difficult to overcome the metaphor was first used by feminists in reference to barriers in the careers of high achieving women it was coined by Martin Lo during a speech in 1978 and there are many versions of this for example the East Asian-American
Speaker Jane hun who coined the term bamboo ceiling to refer to the obstacles that all East asian-americans face in advancing their careers similarly a multitude of barriers that refugees workingclass men and Asylum Seekers face in their search for Meaningful employment is referred to as the canvas ceiling the glass cliff on the other
Hand is a very specific phenomenon where in difficult times people are more likely to appoint women and people of color to be leaders or given very difficult tasks when things get hard when Carol Barts was appointed CEO at Yahoo in January of 2009 the internet company was struggling she was hired on
A 4-year contract and put forward a strategic plan to turn things around but in September of 2011 in a phone call with Yahoo’s chairman of the board she was fired just 2 and a half years after she had joined the company they didn’t even let her plan come to fruition
Instead opting to replace her Barts is one of of the countless female leaders given a precarious leadership position and left standing on the edge of the glass Cliff with no support the glass Cliff is generally something that reinforces the status quo while allowing the company to look Progressive if the
Woman fails she can be blamed on the problems are piled up with previous leaders they can fire her and replace her with a more traditional leader therefore reinforcing the hierarchical structure but if she succeeds it looks great for the company’s image a win-win for the company a lose lose for the
Leader of course not everyone who wants to see women or people from underrepresented groups in leadership positions has negative motives research in France and Switzerland found that leftwing participants chend to choose minority candidates to run for political office in hard to win seats because they believe in doing so the candidates could
Bring about real change but this still does not change the fact that placing these people in positions and places puts a huge amount of pressure on them with little to no support to change the system for real one person cannot overhaul a system without a team or a massive amount of
Support this also perhaps speaks to how we view women socially as Harvard conducted a survey asking 122 students to read an article about a supermarket chain that was either very successful or struggling badly in both cases the CEO was about to be replaced the students read descriptions of a male and female
Candidate and rated each one’s strength in 10 areas some having to do with stereotypical female attributes such as communication skills and the ability to encourage others While others with stereotypical male traits had things like competitiveness and decisiveness they then asked which candidate they would choose as a CEO Harvard found that
When a company is doing well people prefer Leaders with stereotypical male strands but when a company is in crisis they think stereotypical female skills are needed to turn things around accordingly most participants 67 chose the man to head the successful company while the majority 63 thought the woman
Should take over the company in crisis in this same way Julia is G given this impossible task to navigate a political social intellectual and financial situation in a world she is new to with a background that people actively distrust her for as her clan was once the leader of the vicious Splinter
Organization the sabat her Mentor a ruthless woman herself is the perfect example of a queen bee and a possible mirror of what Julia can become queen bee is a derogatory term applied to a woman who has achieved success in traditionally male dominated Fields these women often take on more masculine
Traits and distance themselves from other women in the workplace in order to succeed they mix both toxic feminine and masculine traits in order to ruthlessly cut out competition they may also view or treat subordinates more critically if they are female and refuse to help other
Women rise up in the ranks as a form of self-preservation this sometimes can be seen as a byproduct of tokenization of the belief that there can only be one woman or one person of color we can see this in the Avengers for example where for the longest time Black Widow was one
Of the only female members in one of the endings where Julia Embraces her more ruthless aspects she gives up her female best friend and partner to be killed in order to secure her place within the camarilla Julia’s ability to do this even shocks her older peers within the
Camarilla they are shocked at her ability to cut her compassion empathy and love away from someone that she is supposed to want to protect it makes them wonder what she could do to them people who she has no attachment to as she has fully embraced her ambition to
Succeed rud in her need to never be in danger again the queen bee can almost be seen as a pikme on steroids where they’re distancing themselves from feminine proximity allows them their place of power while securing themselves in a hegemonic structure something that can come from the fear and understanding
Of what it is like to be at the bottom in the other ending where Julia holds firm in her morals once again she is thrown out into the street yet again having to flee the city with Dakota she has no choice but to travel to the LA
Coast as more than likely Karen her sire will kill her for the disappointment she has made too many enemies within the C camarilla and without now while I love both endings it surprised me how much I loved the darker ending of Julia giving up her morals and saying [ __ ] it I’m
Going to do what I need to do to be at the top it’s an uncomfortable realization I think that stems from being slowly broken down by A system that is hostile to you and the dark urge to prove to everyone that you are much better than they ever thought you could
Be but in this ending Julia has to give up her romance and friendships with Dakota and Kadir probably the only two people who cared for her as a person in order to rise to the top she has to give up a lot of traditional qualities associated with femininity like
Connection Che communication love and friendship I find one’s proximity to femininity and how they work to distance themselves from it does wonders for their career unless one actively decides to fully lean into these topics that ret traumatize both viewer and creator for example a discourse on Tik Tok in a
Similar vein recently was the discussion that black content creators can’t gain a large following for things they love doing like talking about anime the only time they receive a large following in views is when they engage in the traumatizing work of discussing black pain a YouTube Creator on here laan once
Talked about his experience of Art School specifically how dismissive integrating his Art School teachers were about his hyper feminine art style it wasn’t his ideas his talent or his skill they disliked but the fact he chose his method of Comm communication to be through bright colors feminine portraits
And feminine visuals they told him it was vapid too consumable advising him that something more abstract would have more value and worth than a portrait of a woman it is very interesting his teacher’s wording of this female or feminine subject as being too consumable
Is to me lean spoke about what a lot of feminine people discuss here that women and feminine people are acceptable as Muse machines so long as there is a masculine hand to guide the discussion or brush because Len failed to remove the femininity and quote consumability
From his work the work was deemed not highbrow enough to Merit esteem and attention outside of consumption it feeds into this idea of Art and women in colonization that I will touch on later in the same vein as the toxic relationship between Julia and Karen there is an underlying competitiveness
That connects this to the queen bee tokenization there can only be one lasra in the same way that there can only be one fairest of them all Dian Sawyer was perhaps one of the most toxic and vitriolic people in her behavior towards a young teenage Britney Spears Sawyer infamously grilled Spears about
Everything and anything suggesting she was at fault for her failed relationships and being a bad influence saying such things to the just turned 21-year-old you broke his heart you did something that caused him so much pain so much suffering what did you do she shamed Spears over having premarital not
Sharing the blame with the Willing other partner Justin Timberlake who was celebrated and lauded for the conquest Sawyer made her cry running the footage of her tears even though Spears requested they sto taping she [ __ ] shamed Britney for pictures taken of her under contract and under supervision of
Her father par for the course of a pop star pushing her to admit that the photos were too provocative Sawyer pressed Spears on allegations of partying and drug use and also confronted her with awful things other women had said about her such as Kendall the wife of maron’s foral Governor
Saying really if if I had the opportunity to shoot Britney Spears I think I would Sawyer is the perfect Showcase of a woman in power shutting down and destroying other women both because they fear replacement and because they have lost the youth and attractiveness that they themselves
Define themselves by in order to attain their high level of power in the same way Britney was a sacrificial lamb held up by Diane Sawyer for the masses Julia is that same sacrifice for Karen Karen wins either way by placing Julia in the hot seat if she dies the camarella has
Had its sacrifice and if she succeeds she gains power and Prestige for Julie acting in the way she has taught her to with this knowledge the game makes us almost rude for her to do so Julia is by far my favorite vampire the M grade character no matter what path she goes
Down however while we respect the ruthless woman because of what she has done to cut herself off from her feminine traits and succeed she’s still acceptable in the eyes of society despite the damage he does there is sub in society still sees as worse the nasty
Woman until dawn is a 2015 horror video game developed by super massive games and published for the PlayStation it follows a group of teenagers spending the weekend at a ski lodge on the anniversary of their friend’s disappearance unaware that they are not alone the game is a love letter to 80
Slasher tropes and we have them all Sam the final girl Ashley The Girl Next Door J the bimbo and Emily the [ __ ] there is an amazing thesis on Insidious hedony and character archetypes woven into until dawn by Courtney Harvey I read out certain passages from her thesis in this
Section so if you like the sound of it I would recommend giving it a read she also touches on aspect of indigenous folklore and men’s mental health in relation to Josh’s character in a way that I don’t feel qualified to talk about so if you want more info on that
I’ve linked it below Emily as a character is difficult to like with her characterization as aggressive and unlikable many players are not disappointed with her deaths as they are with others with five possible deaths in Game more than any other Single Character it can be easy to see her meet
Her death it is often less disappointing for players to see her die because of their dislike of her some players have actively admitted to seeking out her Debs in a sort of catharsis for her quote [ __ ] nature interestingly Emily is the only character that the player
Can directly choose to kill in game for in the likely scenario she is bitten by wend go Hanah other characters in the safe room will become fearful that she may turn into a wendo herself and Mike her a pulls out a gun and threatens to shoot her which triggers a QuickTime
Event for the player players may choose to make the decision out of fear but also they may make it simply because they dislike her though dislike is not likely a deciding factor for serious players on their first playthrough who want to try and win the game players who
Are not taking it quite as seriously or players who are replaying for fun are more likely to make the decision to shoot her it is most likely that Emily will be bitten by the wendigo at the end of her scene at the beginning of chapter 8 since she most likely doesn’t have the
Flare gun and even if does the Target is a difficult shot to succeed at anyway it important to note that the game specifically states that Emily is extremely insecure that she fears failure and actively feels apart from the group her bado and extreme bitchiness may be seen as a cover for
Her fear that she does not belong as the model minority of the group she may be privileged but it is easy to see that Emily knows how easy it is for people to turn on her during life how hard it is to gain success rather than a blonde conventionally pretty white woman like
Jess sleeping her way to the top which she expresses extreme anger and frustration with it is also important to note that her best friend Jess is now sleeping with her ex Mike another reminded to her of how other women of privilege still have more power over her
And how men like Mike use po women like her and Hannah and Mike is more likely to get rid of Emily than she realizes in the event that Mike threatens to shoot Emily it is after a lengthy dialogue exchange among the characters in the safe room a few of
Whom are afraid because they think that the bite indicates that Emily will transform this is one particular shot that is interesting and telling of Emily’s othered status here as an Asian woman as all the characters keep their distance from Emily who while throwing fearful accusations at her surround her leaving
The only space for her to pass through them is the door out of the safe room the physical distance between the characters empathizes Emily as apart from them not only as a racial minority but now for potentially being a monstrous other Sam Mike Ashley and Chris surrounding Emily from a distance
In the event that Mike shoots Emily she as a minority is sacrificed her body neglected in favor of keeping her white counterparts safe for after he shoots her in the left eye and the characters all Express their horror chillingly they leave Emily’s body exactly where it was
Her face still Twisted in fear and her blood spotted against the wall behind her they make no effort to cover her up leaving her corpse where it sits like some horrific Decor from a zy vampire’s lir Mike The Game’s primary protector chooses to protect white people instead
Of the OWN PC woman someone he had an innate connection to beforehand and while he is accusing her of monstrosity that is yet to be demonstrated and soon after he leaves the remaining characters learn that Emily was never a threat in the first place it is important to note that this
Is one of many of Emily’s eye related possible deaths both of which have an impetus between either Hannah or Mike I find this very interesting as Mike was the impetus that got Hannah killed the object of her affection before she died this is sign ific not only for other
Characters who have irated dat deaths such as Ashley which have just could have easily been Emily’s death instead of Ashley’s depending on earlier nodes most notable is the first time Emily can undergo an IR related death at the beginning of chapter 8 while fleeing from Hannah if players fail certain qtes
From wend goana she will jump in front of Emily and grab her by the head and she will Jam her thumbs which particularly feature long sharp looking nails straight into Emily’s eyes these doubts are specifically telling of Gohan’s SE frustration since it is a penetra of execution and it is
Especially interesting because we knew that she was very repressed before she turned into a windigo we see very little of the good girl’s frustration at not being able to sexually or emotionally Express herself without stepping out of her assigned good girl status until that frustration and denying of her needs
Warps her turning her monstrous when goanna even appears to take much more pleasure in this kill appearing to smile before jamming her thumbs into Emily’s eyes and exhibiting extreme intensity which she keeps jamming them into Emily’s eye sockets this I read was part of her revenge at Emily’s part of her
Prank waving in her face how utterly stupid she was to think a lower or less attractive girl like herself could take her man once again reinforcing this idea of hierarchical competition between women for the prize of proximity to a form of desirable masculinity the eye related deaths as
Well for Emily seem to speak as her status as a minority both racially and for her G in game the eyes are the center of her facial expression we say a lot with our eyes in game the character’s eyes after they die still show some form of expression to the
Player one example of this is Matt’s first death in which the player seeing an extreme closeup of his eye rolling into the back of his head as his injuries kill him and there are many other examples throughout the game as well as other Dead characters having particular eye expressions in their
Deaths but Emily is robbed of this not being able to have that expression in her death It ultimately Works to dehumanize her for the player loses out on being able to see her eyes and her humanity and to feel empathy or sympathy in any regard or form they also May
Relate to her positioning as unlikable since she sh showed very little empathy in life she receives none in death a common aspect of Asian stereotypes in fetishization is linked to Colonial history and how Colonial countries first feminize a country in order to justify why they need to colonize it for Asian
Women they are either characterized as the Dragon lady a rough rude and brutal woman who hen packs her weak husband or men in her life the other is the typical submissive hypersexual woman who needs a man to rule over her we see the effect of this hypersexual Colonial mindset in
American fetishization of gisha women after World War II the Comfort women of Korea a large- scale trafficking essay ining dehumanization of Korean children and women by Japanese Imperial soldiers or the massacre of Nang King which was the Forgotten Chinese holocost caused by the brutality of Japanese soldiers as
The writer Irish Chang States n King should be remembered not only for the number of people slaughtered but for the cruel manner in which they met their deaths Chinese men were used for bayonet practice and ination contests an estimated 880,000 Chinese women were essayed Chinese men were SED and forced
To perform repulsive sexual acts many soldiers went beyond to dis women slicing off their and nailing them alive to walls fathers were forced to essay their daughters and Sons their mothers as other family members watched not only did live burials cation the carving of organs and the roasting of people become
Routine but the more diabolical tortures were practiced such as hi people by their tongues on iron hooks or burying people up to their waist and watching them get torn apart by German Shepherds so sickening was the spectacle that even Naz in the city were horrified one proclaiming the massacre was the work of
Beastial Machinery the acts of Imperial powers like Japan also show that that contrasting people’s belief that places like Britain were the main colonizers this is not the case many countries of the past like the Netherlands Spain and ancient Rome use this idea of their culture superiority to destroy others
The use of Ana is a calculated weapon of war that has been historically and still to this day used when you attack a country’s social Foundation the ability to renew and grow which is what women primarily build you successfully attack that Nation on all fronts in the second
Half of the 20th century cases of saay were documented in more than 20 military and paramilitary conflicts in the 1990s sa was used as an instrument of ethnic cleansing in former Yugoslavia and as a means of genocide in Rwanda in the former case women belonging to the subjugated ethnic groups were
Intentionally impregnated through by enemy soldiers in the latter case women belonged to the tootsi ethnic group were systematically by HIV infected men recruited and organized by hu lead in governments the the ability of mass ASA to simultaneously physically and psychologically break down a woman’s ability to rebuild Society it further
Victimizes women who become pregnant and their children become another aspect of weapons of war in destabilizing that country’s population in effect the aspect of massay is not only used to humiliate the country and Men of said country but it turns women into biological weapons of war and colonization as the children that they
Have from these attacks will provide another foothold of colonial power into said country these women women and children will also bear the brunt of the shame and aggression of their own people as the women will be blamed for their assault and the children will never be fully accepted into either societies the
Use of mass essay Mass trafficking and the use of enforced marriage of native women populations to invading men has been used as far back as Alexander the Great’s inversion of Persia with the wedding of Susa where 80 Royal marriages took place and Asian women taken both with Native wives and War Brides were
Married to Common Greek Soldiers with the expectation that their children would receive Macedonian martial training and indoctrination we think such aspect of fiz propaganda and War are in the past but they are not according to the UN as of November 3rd 2326 women and 3760 children have been killed in the
Gaza Strip representing 67% of all casualties while thousands more have been injured this means that 420 children are killed or injured every day some of them only a few months old maternal debts are expected to rise given the lack of access to adequate care the psychological toll of the
Hostilities also has a direct and deadly effect and consequence on reproductive Health including a rise in stress induced miscarriages still births and premature deaths a report released in October 18th examined the human rights violations that took place in the first two months of the 2022 war in Ukraine
The United Nations found that Russian forces have committed the vast majority of human rights violations during the conflict these crimes include the widespread perpetration of sa victims of sa range in age from 4 to 80 years old the report details also four-year-old children being forced to perform certain
Acts on Russian soldiers while other documented violence includes gangs enforcing family members to watch while this is enacted most of the cases of this violence also qualifies as torture or cruel or inhumane treatment the linking of Asian women to hypersexuality and anger masculinizes them which is a supposed subversion of woman’s true
Nature hence she needs a white man to teach her how to be proper to save her on the other hand Asian men are hyper feminized so they can be dehumanized and placed below Colonial or imperial men it’s the same way that the English Justified the colonization of Ireland
For example as Irish women were characterized as wild Savage whes whose men were too drunk and too feminine to bring their women under their control women in the colonial gaze is a book that goes into this further but just know that the use of femininity is is a
Tool that has been used to justify why masculine Colonial Powers have the right to colonize it is even the reason why minimalism and a lack of color in art and architecture has become so popular many colonized cultures like Ghana Nigeria and China Vietnam and India had a rich culture of bright expensive art
Layered food traditions and highly decorative architecture style which was then feminized and characterized as exotic but not classy the lack of color and the use of such is used to signify objectivity and therefore for an inherent right to power and domination which signals that these Colonial Powers
Have the right to rule over you it also forces cultures that want to join colonialism that they must be subsumed and lose their culture’s originality in order to fit the movement they must wear the minimalist uniform this is something to keep in mind in the future when you
Walk into a company office or a large scale art exhibition it is important to note that until dawn is set upon indigenous land where First Nations people were forced off and killed the Avatar of their history is minimized to their monsters an aspect of monstrous femininity that is often left when a
Culture has been colonized I believe the tribe mentioned was of cre alangan descent so I would welcome anyone from that tribe or connection with First Nations people to tell me their opinions on this type of media and connection with femininity the reason why I bring up Asian stereotypes of how women are
Used in war and the history of displaced people is because even if games like until dawn don’t touch on these aspects directly they affect our subconscious understanding of the character in story in the same way first nation’s people were attacked with disease flattening their culture into stereotypes with the
Fetishization of their native women into Noble Savages or the removal of their names like mayoka into pocah hontas we see this flattening mirrage in the treatment of Emily or even Hanah out of the 18 possible deaths in Game 11 of those possible deaths are for women
While only seven are for men that leaves an average of 2.75 deaths per female character and an average of 1.75 deaths per male character character these numbers are not specifically drastic but they call to how the slasher genre began exclusively with female victims and how the victim role is coded as feminine Sam
Is the final girl because she has the best relationship with Hannah and she was Hannah’s best friend before her disappearance and was the only one who tried to stop the prank before it got out of control out of all the women Sam is who Hannah would be least inclined to
Harm if she survives the game she sustains essentially no injuries and if not her death is not even particularly graphic or brutal as compared to to many of the other deaths and of course Sam is one of the three characters in game to only have one possible death she
Survives until the final seene always because she is the Final Girl Sam’s death involves wend goanna gutting Sam by punching all the way through her stomach and out the back pulling her hand out and dropping Sam to the ground which is again aized penetrative death that reflects Clover’s conclusion of
Slasher psycho killers and final girls being actually frustrated though it should be noted that this is also Al connected to Hannah they almost work as dark mirrors of each other the brighter more EUR entric final girl being able to keep her animalistic urges up Bay while Hannah the ambiguous Brown woman cannot
And so becomes a monster the lack of brutality in Sam’s killing may also speak to Hannah’s Humanity shining through maybe she recognizes Sam or the game still wishes for us to recognize S as the final girl she is the easiest female character to like ingame for none
Of the other girls exhibit quite as many pro-social behaviors as some as well as many masculine traits like helping Josh fix the boiler being active in her protection EG climbing out of the mines which is part of what makes her the Final Girl Sam is a perfect mix of
Masculine traits in a feminine package and behaviors the other female characters being less likable also makes it more fun to watch them suffer a brutal death if the player particularly dislikes them which is also typical of Sasha horror since the audience tends to take pleasure in watching a cast of
Characters fall at the hands of a killer until the Final Girl stops running and begins to fight back in the context of until dawn as a game the players often want characters they like to survive and the ones they hate to see failure so Sam’s death in not being as intense as
Many of the others may be to lighten the blow of that failure on the player’s part of not being able to protect her in stark contrast to Sam Jessica suffers some of the most physically demanding trauma in the game she is kidnapped and violently assaulted by Hannah early in
The game sustaining injuries that caus her to black out early in chapter 4 and not be seen again until chapter 9 if she survives her attack her injuries speak to how she is defined mostly by her sexuality attractiveness and relationship to Mike she’s given more Humanity than Emily however with little
Moments of humanity and fun I find it particularly interesting to remember that the reason why we don’t see Emily in a good light in game is because she is being forced into a situation with an ex- best friend who not only convinced her to go through with Hannah’s prank
Because she was quote looking out for her best friend but she was the actual friend Emily needed to worry about she and Emily were the masterminds of Hannah’s humiliation and Hannah’s actions towards Jessica not only show Hannah’s resentment of being the scape gr of the girl’s friend group but also
Her frustration at Jess that she can enact her sexuality while Hannah never got the chance Jessica goes from uninjured to brutalized in a matter of minutes massive gashes on her chest and covered in splotches of blood Jessica’s attack at Hannah’s hands and subsequent injuries are so severe that they leave
Her with massive scarring on her face and body further to that W goanna inflicts so much damage on Jessica’s face which can be seen clearly when she wakes up much later in game if Matt survives to see her in chapter 9 one of the first things he says to her is Jesus
Jess what the hell happened to you how the are you still alive and it is a reasonable question considering the severity of her injuries these injuries are incredibly telling of when to go Hannah’s persistent romantic feelings for Mike for Jessica gets these injuries just after her most well-known speech
You’re out there the [ __ ] are you trying to do you want to ruin our fun that bad well guess what you can’t you can’t ruin our good time because Michael and I are going to [ __ ] that’s right we are going to have sex and it’s going to be
Hot so enjoy it because I know we’re going to we know the monologue is meant for Jessica’s friends who she thinks are stalking them but it’s actually Hannah that hears it thus wend Go Hannah hears his Proclamation that Jessica is going to have sex with Mike the guy she likes
And so she reacts with violence she brutalizes Jessica as she tears through the window and kidnaps her as Harvey States this monologue may have also inspired Hannah’s method of execution for Jessica the removal of her jaw because it is difficult to speak without a jaw further removing her jaw is also
Symbolic of how she is defined by her looks as well as the other sexual connotations that come with the mouth without a jaw she no longer meets Society standards for attractive in a woman and Hanah ensures that Jessica is disfigured in her death no longer able to fulfill her archetypal role as a
Punishment for her the injuries Jessica sustains also speaks to a societal view of women who engage in sex activity Jessica’s entire role in the game is to be sexualized and she endures some of the most intensive physical trauma out of all the characters as a result of her willingness to engage in consensual
Activity for her stance status as sexual aggressor in both stealing away Mike from Emily and for taking what Hannah wanted for herself yet she must engage in her sexuality in order to have an increased chance of survival how much or how little Jessica is wearing at the end
Of chapter 3 depending on the player’s ability as Mike to woo her on their trick to the cabin and gain consent to engage in contact determines how much room for error the player has in chapter 4 when they are tasked with helping Mike chase after her if the player fails to
Woo her and she remains fully clothed Mike has no room for error or else Jessica will die but if she is partially or fully undressed Mike can make errors and still successfully make it to Jessica on time thus Jessica’s sexuality becomes compulsory essentially necessary for her to survive the night for without
Her enacting her sexuality she becomes more difficult to save this is an interesting meta narrative on how women with little options in life are sometimes forced to objectify or sexualize themselves in order to support themselves and save their jobs if you have ever watched the movie bombshell
You will know many women face sexual harassment or overtures in the workplace which makes rejecting these advantages detrimental to your career in the same way Marlin Monroe warned young actresses in Hollywood about contracts that would require them to give seual favors out did you end up sitting down and talking
To Marin Monroe about it yes that was yeah shortly after that I met Marilyn at a party at Jean Kelly’s house and I was playing in this role in the girl in the red velvet swing and she said that she was considered but she was too old it
Was another one of those ages things and then she told me she said watch out for the wolves in Hollywood honey and I said well I’ve been in British films for three years I can handle wolves and she said well not the power buses honey and
She said if they don’t get what they want they’ll drop your contract they’ve done it to lots of G it did affect your career because you did you did miss out on roles and and CLA Patra was one of those Jessica survival almost always is
Dependent on men it is M who canver in chapter 4 and at the end of the game she’s the only player character in her final scene if Matt has died otherwise she is left dependent on him her life in his hands and he does not have to save
Her Ashley’s relationship with Hana is not particularly clear in game we only really know that she was involved in the prank though her part that she played was minor thus her deaths generally revolve around symbolism for her hysterical woman archetype the term hysteria has a deep history in relation
To women’s medical treatment the term deres from the Greek word for uterus and though symptoms were associated with hysteria were recognized in both men and women the root cause was deemed different originating in the uterus for the women and called hysteria while men were simply melancholic the ancient
Greeks believed that the uterus wandered around the woman’s body which explained her monthly leading pains her inferiority to men and her General mood swings the most noteworthy symptoms of Hysteria and Melancholia are depression mood swings and hallucinations in Athens during The Classical period men viewed women’s
Roles to be either good or bad the good roles were women who were wives and mothers and the bad roles were lovers Rebels and witches therefore during the fifth century BC the Athenians had a certain image of how perfect and ideal wives were to behave that image was
Based on the Divine and heroic woman like Penelope Penelope was odys is prudent and faithful wife she was the woman that every female should aspire to be the kind of woman that Athenian women should avoid becoming were women like Meda a fictional character written by Ides in his article Will William O’Neal
Suggests that Meda must have been viewed as the most rebellious and criminal woman of all murdering not only her brother but also her children this despite the fact that the origin of Meda was a trafficked woman taken from her Homeland and then abandoned once her husband Jason found a younger prettier
Princess essentially dooming his children to Exile and death Meda just had the courage to look her sons in the eyes as she killed them so they would not suffer a faith worse than death given that killing a blood relative in Antiquity exceeded murdering anyone else one could imagine why no woman would
Want to Aspire to be anything like Meda Ashley is an emotionally charged character prone to sudden shifts in mood throughout the game of until dawn and especially when anything frightening or traumatizing is presented to her Ashley more so than Emily is a divisive character people either love her or they
Hate her whether or not she is liked is actually more dependent on how you the player play the men around her specifically Chris if Chris chooses all the right options Ashley will save his life later on in the game and will be a romance possibility however if you
Choose to protect Chris in your playthroughs this will traumatize and change Ashley’s Behavior resulting in a lot of cases Chris dying an unnecessary Death because Ashley freezes up because of her emotional instability and ability to get Chris a likable and relatable guy to most players killed she is treated
With vitriol in many comment section Ashley is a mirror of the rejection of the attainable shy sweet girl and the anger expressed at her for her lack of loyalty which feels personal to a lot of Gamers it seems even though she falls into the Trope as the woman of a reward
If you don’t play perfectly it backfires on you a lot of people seem to feel that Ashley doesn’t like Chris back when in fact she very much does their anger is misplaced and I would wager that many players would probably relate more to Ashley’s experience of hurt of realizing
The person she likes doesn’t like her as much as she thought they did though much more of an extreme circumstance also unlike Emily or Jess who are actively socially aggressive with less than Stellar ways of being good friends or Sam who very much embodies the final girl’s more masculine
Approach to a horror protagonist Ashley is very feminine she’s not weak but she neither is she an action girl we dislike how weak she comes across in certain situations but I think more people would act like Ashley than Sam she’s not an action girl she’s just a normal girl and
That’s okay if Chris show shows her how much he cares about her she does indeed risk life and limb for her best friend and love interest Ashley has many types of diverse methods of death and I really think that speaks to her archetype of the hysterical woman and the wild Panic
That she slips in and out throughout the night from she starts her story off with thinking that there is a spiritual possession happening within the house which turns into being Josh being the Killer and then back to an actual much more paranormal threat Ashley’s hysteria is connected with this wild or witch
Woman who someone who is connected to the other side as she makes prophecies which can or cannot come true during the Middle Ages in the Renaissance where medical knowledge was limited many women who exhibited symptoms of Hysteria were also labeled as witches or possessed by demons the thought of these women spoke
Or saw two ghosts or had a connection with the other side is something that is very common within horror as well a dead of night is an interesting intersection of paranormal and stalker horror our protagonist Maya is caught separated from her friends who she follows to a secluded Hotel seemingly
Deserted she is the only person there and she meets an off-putting but seemingly harmless Jimmy who runs the hotel as she is given a room and settles in she discovers that they are trapped both her friends and the spirit of Jimmy’s supposed victims using a radio
And other methods she acts as a form of medium between the spiritual side and the physical side in order to solve a mystery free her friends and escape with her life what follows is a supernatural and physical cat and mouse game between Maya Jimmy and the spirits of the hotel
A through line of that dead of night is this feeling of disaar and solidarity of victims being the only thing that will save or free people from the hotel there is no chance of the police intervening no authorities can or will help so it is up to Maya and her friends to escape
Together this theme of female isolation is carried on in a surprising way with Jimmy’s mother one of the ghosts we can speak to is Jimmy’s mother who speaks of her Fear And Regret at not being able to save her son Jimmy at the hands of his abusive father she had tried many times
To get away and to Shield her son but to no avail there were no outside Community or authorities she could return to and in the end Jimmy was possessed by the soul of his father in correlation with reality this is a real fear mirrored with mothers in being unable to Shield
Your child from the negative aspects of the outside world but also the internal Horrors as well Jimmy being possessed by the soul of his father can also be symbolically seen as him carrying on the abuse and generational trauma that was perpetuated against him with Jimmy being
Unable to break the cycle of abuse his mother could not protect him from and his father did not care to heal from a dead of night is also really Adept at manufacturing the vulnerability young women feel when traveling solo traveling solo for a young woman even within your
Own country can be one of the most riskiest Endeavors you can take allegations of trafficking have been levied at many large hotel resorts for whom some lawsuits are still ongoing hotels like this include the shangra motel Windam Hotel and Resort economy in and the Red Roof in all between 2015 and
2020 sex traffickers use hotels for their businesses either through an incall model or an outcome model there have also been some instances of allegations of hotels turning a blind eye to the kidnappings within hotels while kidnappings are the most extreme form of trafficking activity has been stated that these lawsuits that many of

Tree and CD motels but traffickers run their businesses according to the convenience and location of their comfort class of buyers according to many studies while women are statistically more likely to travel they are also more at risk and will take certain precautions like only flying with specific trusted Airlines having a
Distinct itinerary with someone to know where they are at all times and are more likely to link up with other women while traveling with safety and numbers it also important to note that areas of research on people who are going missing while traveling are extremely undeveloped for both men and women it
Goes without saying that countless of these industries are capitl off insecurity and fears of women traveling abroad such as Airbnb door locks that you can bring with you lights that you can attach to your phone to check whether or not you have a two-way mirror in your hotel room and certain apps on
Your phone that allow you to pinpoint a place in which kidnappers might be hiding or where there might be a hidden door in your accommodation but going back to Jimmy’s mother’s inability to protect her son we can see aspect of this fear of not being able a mother to
Shield your child this fear of not being able to Shield your child can sometimes turn into a darker urge to control however emotional insc also called covert inscest describes an unhealthy family Dynamic where a parent relies on their child for emotional and practical advice and support we see this aspect
Most predominantly in the game killer frequency the game follows Forest Nash a blow in radio DJ to a small town of Gallow Creek now before I spoil this this game I would honestly recommend you check it out the game consists of dialogue and puzzles as you and your
Producer Peggy tried to save callar from a serial killer the whistling man who has seemingly come back from the dead in true scream fashion it is revealed that the whistling man is a Duo a mother and son who is seeking revenge for the loss of their partner and father
Respectively Don or Marie is Peggy’s sister who became estranged from one another when their parents kicked out Marie for not only her pregnancy but also her inability to let the unjust murder of her boyfriend George Barrow go despite the unfairness of it all with the whole town covering up the murder
Marina not only displays the common Trope of the wronged woman coming back for Revenge but the woman IM mesed with her son or more specifically CT emotional assessed now I will be using the term Ames because of YouTube know that these are very similar things but they’re not the same but despite the
Name of covert it doesn’t actually involve the physical abuse or really it’s a term that it refers to an inappropriate emotional closeness this emotional Dynamic can happen unconsciously unlike physical incest often parents who fostered this Dynamic don’t realize how their actions affect their child and they also don’t intend
To cause harm explains a lot of psychologists like Hardy Williams on the matter yet this Behavior still can cause significant pain not to mention disrupt healthy development in fact some experts say that physical and emot can have long-term effects on childhood development in a dynamic where a measurement like this it persists your

Go unmet something that can have major consequences for lifelong mental and emotional well-being a speaker on the subject Monica sudo explained her experience with this type of am mment in my personal case she states my parents were divorced by the time I was three my father was completely out of the picture
And what emerged was a very un healthy and meshed relationship between my mother and I aside from feelings of that I have I didn’t want to overwhelm my mother who was prone to fits of self Haring behaviors and panic attacks thus I SW squelched all my negative emotions
Because I always always told don’t be mad at me or don’t be sad at me because it makes me sad however the worst aspect of this unhealthy relationship was exhibited when I was exposed to adult talk from a very young age I knew all
About sex by a young age of five and I was was aware of every man my mom was with how the actual Act was and details thereof as I got older the boundary became even more blurred when it came to privacy I was often told that she was
Entitled to look at me nude because I came out of her body as if that described some type of ownership of my body to hers this type of covert or amesh that occurs during childhood or adolescence can lead to intimacy disorders sexual addiction relationship problems and emotional distancing trust
In and closeness issues can drive a fear of intimacy leaving you feeling overwhelmed or overly responsible even early on in a relationship some prefer fleeting or even Anonymous encounters to the perceived baggage of a relationship that has been left from the relationship with their parents common feelings or
Issues among adult survivors of this type of covert abuse include explosive anger or shame guilt over leaving a parent persistent feelings of insecurity or inadequacy difficulty setting healthy boundar recovery and engaging in appropriate behavior with their own children and maintaining a normal adult relationship or sexual dysfunction in Marie’s and
Henry’s case I find it very telling that Henry is the more brutal and unstable of the two his theorized killings are seen to be more brutal and his methods more extreme I find it very telling that Marie only waited to exact her revenge on Gallow Creek when Henry was fully
Grown when she had the support of a male body as a tool to carry out her violent will in in this case she is using her son for not only physical support but mental and emotional support it is also a good Showcase of the phenomenon of the
Boy mom that is joked about online the boy mom is a mother who has set unhealthy reverence for her son a lot of the time transgressing her own son’s boundaries these women become jealous of any threat to their relationship with their sons including their son’s own girlfriends aside from this being a key
Aspect of a meshman it also goes further a lot of these women connect their self-worth and value to their ability to have sons and use their sons as proxies to interact and enact their will in the world it is their connection to the patriarchal structure an aspect of power
That they themselves are unwilling to relinquish in this aspect they view their sons as an extension of themselves a tool of their will rather than their own distinct individuals when they want to act in a way Society doesn’t view as acceptable for a woman they gold their
Son into enacting their will in a covert means when their sons display wants of their own like wanting a girlfriend it kicks starts their fear that they will lose their control and ability to maneuver in the world without their connection to masculinity because these women have not done the work to unpack
Their own beliefs and misogyny they find Avenues to enact their power within the uneven system and become unstable when it is taken from them internet culture calls it the Becky to Caren pipeline when women who lose their social currency that they once had with their youth and looks find another way to gain
Power within the very limitations they have set for themselves they feel as if they should be the exception rather than the rule in the case of Henry the aspect of his violent aggressive kills are more an aspect of him enacting his mother’s will and emotions for her in truth he’s never
Been to Gallow Creek or met his father in true boy mom style she has molded her son’s personality to fit her needs in the world she values her connection with her son more than her relationship with her sister Peggy because of this in the end the way Marie is captured becomes
Frantic at her son’s endangerment in part because she loves him in another way because of what he can do for her and represents for her the targeting of her son removes her most valuable tool without him she is disempowered is made clear that Henry has murdered at least
One person and given his questionable mental state and lifelong indoctrination by his mother at a relatively young age it can’t be said for certain if Henry is really culpable though he does show a twisted sense of enjoyment for the violence which he optionally can make implicit threats for the murder of forest
Too layers of fear I feel goes further into the ideas that were hinted at in killer frequency not only is it a more indepth examination of generational loss and Trauma artistic gender gaps and the mental illness but it seems to be a game that takes elements of Scarlet’s story
In the path and dissects them further layers of fear inheritance the DLC follows our protagonist who is a young woman coming back to her childhood home her father was a famous painter and her mother was a famous musician in the base game we play as the father however in
The DLC we play play as the daughter again the fatherdaughter relationship playing a central role in understanding the themes of distant empowerment and inherited mental illness and the fear we will pass along our worst aspects to our children or that as a daughter we will inherit our parents’ anger and none of
Their talents the mother figure within layers of fear is somewhat absent due to her disability and subsequent Sude with the mother’s declining health and her eventual death the father finds it increasingly difficult to take on the female caretaker role that his wife once had for his daughter the spiraling along
With his mental illness causes his daughter to be taken off him and further cements his spiral into Insanity in the DLC we follow the daughter as she revisits this trauma in her childhood home we can see that the daughter has very much inherited her father’s undiagnosed mental illness and has
Internalized a lot of his harmful beliefs again mirroring that his fear that his worst attributes would be passed along to his daughter and in some sense it has become true without any maternal figure and a subsequent alienation from her generational line and home she has been left on the
Outside of society and carries a lot of guilt and anger because of this if she is unable to forgive her father she accidentally dies and if she chooses to forgive her father we can see the scars of her childhood and what she has experienced will lead her to
Perpetuating the same type of abuse onto her own child further perpetuating the general line of trauma in the final quote unquote true ending she discovers her father’s message for his hope that she would continue his legacy and art in this ending she accepts the continuation of his craft Madness and continues his
Work on his Magnum o Opus leading to the cementing that she cannot Escape her generational trauma and that she as his daughter is merely an extension of his legacy of him and not her own individual even in the original game we see aspects of this narcissism within her father
Despite his best efforts to take on a more mothering role and not pass on his faults to her he still fundamentally cannot see her as an individual at outside of his own perception of what she is to him this does not mean he does
Not love her as we can see he does in his own way but sometimes love is just not enough it is a difficult thing for parents or children to separate their caretakers or their children from their own perceptions to realize that they are full individuals outside of their role
Of caretaker or outside of their role as child the father also might have set her up to fail without realizing it due to the time period and his own issues the art World in itself is a very small and exclusion World both in the time that
Layers of fear is set and the modern world and it is very hard for a woman to gain entry in art spaces women were relocated especially in this time period to aspects of the Muse but never the artist women are machines for suffering Picassa once told gdau one of his many
Mistresses for me there are only two kinds of women goddesses and dmats Marina his granddaughter once spoke about how his treatment of women was an even darker form of creative vampirism he submitted them to his animal sexuality tamed them ingested them and then crushed them onto the canvas after
He had spent many nights extracting their Essence once they were bled dry he would dispose of them this abuse of his Muse was similar to how he co-opted voices of women artists like Bea meeden to benefit from his already privileged background with Picasso’s family established in the art World already his
Father and family were well connected and Picasso was given the freedom to voice what seemed like new ideas that other artists outside the boys club had been silenced or derided for one thing that I will note that I will always add in my opin of Picasso is that he really
Did treat his father terribly considering all the things his father gave up in order to support his son in a parallel to the daughter in layers of fear Marina had always an unusual relationship with her grandfather when asked how she felt about her grandfather Picasso drawing her and her mother so
Much she Shrugged and stated the portraits did not feel like her sometimes s she said you can see he’s clearly drawing a self-portrait through the features of his daughter it’s not a portrait of child you know she’s meant to be 3 years old and there’s something very severe about the way she looks
Certainly found a feminine projection of himself within his daughter it’s his aspects within her he found of most importance renowned George baselitz has gone on record multiple times to voice his sustain of female artists enforcing his power in the status quo baselet has declared that women cannot paint and
Even if they can paint they’re not good artists he added painting demands a brutality against the thing itself against what already exists this is the art of Destruction antha to the Natural feminine tendency to nurture love and care for both children and husband who will be presumably too busy making a
Masterpiece to help out with the housework his reasoning other than personal preference is that women sell less than men not considering the lesser amount of opportunities and access women have to the art world and the invisible labor that allows men to thrive in making masterpieces out of the best 15
Performing artists of 2023 only one was a woman Bridget Riley artnet States in a social experiment they studied that both men and women’s paintings reported a similar opinion of worth until their names were attached to their pieces in which case the value of women’s artwork decreased while the men’s increased
Despite the art World mildly protesting against bis’s views his art still performs extremely well his voice sharing over those he demeans he still has a network of 20 million which argues the question what message does that send to individuals who wish to speak in art if those that would insult and attack
Them Thrive those exhibitions and galleries who would choose to show and support his work over theirs those collectors who would still support his work on their hard-earned dime does that not send a message with a voice without words but instead actions would you as a woman feel comfortable going into an IND
Industry that actively supports his opinions and Views the wife and child in layers of fear also bear a huge amount of strain due to the pressures of the artist’s career as Marina Picasso States about her own grandfather he needed blood to sign each of his paintings my father’s blood my brother’s blood my
Mother’s blood my grandmother’s blood and mine he needed the blood of those who loved him when it became a fear that the painter would not reach his potential in layers of fear he forced his dream onto his own child she in turn seems to follow this pattern to her own
Child as well she herself cannot reach the status her father did due to her gender mental illness or perhaps the lack of access to the industry her father wanted her to follow so like Marie in killer frequency she is beginning to Prime her child to do what she systemically could not the scary
Part about the painter is that while he has narcissistic traits he is not actively trying to harm his family or his child he does genuinely believe his daughter has the talent to achieve what he cannot when she is taken from him and given away to foster parents he spends
The rest of his life begging for his daughter to be returned the daughter herself even though placed into a family where they can better provide for her needs is left with the inevitable loss and knowledge that while her father loves and wants her he does not have the
Ability to adequately care for her both our parents are a mirror of disempowerment and blurring the lines of questions of gender and the fear of carrying out your parents mistake as young children grow into adulthood out and Outlast 2 are very interesting examples of the intertwining of disempowerment body horror and the
Subtext of feminine coding in male protagonists the game States and draws parallels to post-world War II American experiments done on the homeless population and anyone in society that the government deemed disposable MK Ultra a clandestine CIA initia official records within this describe its focus on the research and development of

The agency contemplated plans to drug Fidel Castro the president of Cuba as well the experiments Encompass a spectrum of methods including electroshock hypnosis sensy deprivation verbal and sexual abuse and various forms of torture the overarching goal was the development of a drug capable of manipulating an individual’s Behavior
Honestly the whole Outlast series could be a whole other video so I’m just going to focus on the most apparent themes a huge fear of men within this game the thing they fear most above anything else is being a woman being treated like a woman being perceived as feminine it’s
How boys are taught as Bel hook States the way we teach boys to be men is to divorce themselves from anything girly don’t cry don’t be a girl be a man we teach them to mutilate themselves in a way that supports their role in the system but not them as a person men
Facing prisons most commonly fear what women walking down the street face men are not afraid of the restrictions of prisons because in many aspects of Life they experience extreme restrictions already in order to be accepted into society no the worst thing they fear is being placed into the role of a woman
It’s why so many men really dislike the character of Gail in balers Gate 3 coming onto them even if they can say no without consequences it’s why the character of the groom from The Whistleblower DLC is one of the most shocking characters and contains some of the highest view counts of last players
History the role of the groom seeing the player character as a woman who stalks them and wishes to cut out what makes them men and impregnate them is terrifyingly alien and unknown experience for most men in the base game the thread of sa and male nudity is
Weaponized against the player and is a clear disempowerment tool of the male protagonist who is not strong enough to fight against the mentally and physically altered patients of the morphogenic engine I notice a lot of critique of male players is a dislike of the dynamic of
Not being able to fight back in some of some of these horror games like jokes of why did this dude not bring a gun many men are assured and comfortable in the knowledge that in real life they at least have a fighting chance against threats the choice to pit an unscaled it
Or journalist against the altered patients of outlasts universe is a very clear choice it puts them into a body and a mindset where both fighting and reasoning with threats is very much impossible this experience is is known and common for feminine people and minorities but is very much an unknown
For those who have never had to face the reality of feeling that there are threats at every juncture there is a certain fear that comes with the groom that is almost as scary as what he plans to physically do to whan Eddie gluskin is already a known serial killer and
Essayer of women he has a history he’s a confirmed threat there’s a reason why he’s here no what is more scary about Eddie kuskin is the fact he cannot be reasoned with he fully believes and feels entitled to your character’s body and nothing that can convince him that
You were not interested any attempts to reason with him or reject him end in violence and floods of Rage he vacillates between loving to aggressive violence to back to loving again he is able to be polite and courteous and can act in a way that no one would expect
How abusive he is this ability to socially navigate through circles and people covertly is one of the fears of women and how generally when they are in abusive relationships with a narcissist or someone else with sociopathic tendencies it can be hard to gain help because the abuser in this casate Eddie
Gluskin has socially navigated so that people do not believe the abused it is also speaking to another woman’s fear that when she says no to someone who can be perceived as a threat that he will not believe her and will continue to pursue her to Violent ends canonically
In game gluskin has murdered many women and was able to get away with it for so long because of his outward ability to navigate through polite Society something that both gluskin and Richard Trager share in this ability to be polite and mask their more malevolent intentions this is also a reason why
Richard Trager also an essayer is one of the most feared villains of the out last series it is unconscious or subconscious fear that no one will be able to recognize a threat because of how well they blend into common Society it is something that women generally have to
Deal with more than men and so it does through a subtextual way of connecting the feminine experience in a way that is understood by the majority of people Eddie gluskin or the groom is also defined by his proximity to femininity his very title is connected to marriage
And the want to possess a woman throughout history and even today in modern times the acquisition of a woman through marriage like a prized kitchen appliance or even a woman for a show and sex is a status symbol for men it’s not really about the woman herself but what
Her presence says about the man who possesses her almost like an expensive car the groom struggles with finding the right woman falling madly in love or in obsession with the idea of each woman he meets he then find Fault With Every Woman eventually killing them and starting the cycle all over again
Showing how disposable he views the women in his pursuit of the life image he wants to create it is also important once again to note that Eddie gluskin shares a striking resemblance to Ed keer both were serial killers that attacked and mutilated women and both were serial killers that suffered an abusive
Childhood and thus was this was used as a frauding excuse for their actions Ed keer was actually one of the first cases that the FBI studied in profiling serial killers but unfortunately the emphasis on Ed keer left a lot of the female victims as just nameless statistics what’s more gluskins ability to change
The body to say a more feminine version is the whole Crux of the last Act of The Whistleblower DLC it is rightly one of the most shocking scenes in video game history it revolves in the demasculinization and feminization of the male character it also feeds into
What a lot of people fear of trans women and the medical issues that they face it is also important to note that while the making you a woman scene is the most sensationalized scene on YouTube along with the V scene in outlast 2 which I have my own frustrations with with
Feeding into Tire tropes of the Predator transwoman angle and so it’s very important to acknowledge the use of trans femininity in game and the horor aspects of transition there’s also a lot of dramatization of transpal in the media the groom scene in The Whistleblower too can be read as a
Co-opting of trans and S feares of transition and the scrutiny that trans women are faced with the most well-known transition surgery that people probably know is Lily elb probably from the movie the Danish girl Lily was born in Denmark and moved to Copenhagen to study art at
The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts as a teenager after marrying Gera gutb elb discovered her true gender identity and began to live as a woman Lily likened her female transformation as being born again and an affirmation of her true nature she was now able to live her life
As Lily however because now she was legally recognized as a woman the king of Denmark nullified her marriage to Gerda in 1930 the two parted their ways amicably and another door opened when an old friend requested that Lily marry him she was elated and planned a final surgery that involved a uterus
Transplant and a construction of an artificial vagina in hopes that this procedure would allow her to have and eventually become a mother this dream would be never realized though H Lily died from a heart paralysis shortly after operation in the woman’s clinic in Dresden while recovering from her final
Surgery in 1931 just shy of her 49th birthday reports of people seeking gender confirming surgery such as vaginoplasty goes back to the 2 Century however as specifically trans women are demonized by the public access and laws restricting needed treatment to care for Trans people has become extremely inaccessible the murder of trans women
And teen girls like Brianna gay tsiah woods and Bailey Reeves are unfortunately worryingly common for such a small demographic of people I also tried to look up the stats for Trans people in relation to Medical issues in homicide but the census only seems to record the binary one of the many
Reasons why there is such a vicious hate towards trans women as opposed to the patronization of trans men that they receive is the challenge that they represent Creator klac explains as such many men fear finding a trans woman attractive and lash it after cat calling or objectifying or as a way to
Reestablish their masculinity in Hemy men and people can understand why the quote someone would want to be a man hence all the ideas is that trans men would simply be silly misguided girls who want what men have but they could never have on the other hand trans women
Are an aberration to the order many people cannot wrap their minds around why someone who would be perceived as a man would want to give up all that power to be a woman because even if they don’t admit it they know how badly women and feminine people are treated in our
Modern society the idea that someone would willingly give that up and be true to themselves as an individual rather than the opposite of allowing their true selves to fall in line for power power and privilege is alien to them it’s important to note that aspects of transgenderism are not a new occurrence
Throughout history various cultures have recognized and embraced transgender identities in ancient Greece FR and Rome G priests were believed by some Scholars to be trans women and played significant roles in society Roman Emperor such as a galbus identified as a woman and pursued exgender reassignment surgery making them a first historical figure often
Associated with transgender identity on the Indian subcontinent and in Thailand there are many subsections of people who form a trans feminine third gender Community dating back to thousands of years while also mentioning and recognizing the presence of trans male figures today this is true as well in Arabia and some in African societies
Traditional roles for Trans men and women have existed some of which still persist in the modern era in pre-colonial America and some contemporary North American indigenous cultures roles for third gender and two-p individuals are those with fluid gender Expressions have been acknowledged in the Middle Ages in Europe witnessed accounts of transgender
Individuals as well colius lament about being born a male rather than a female is also considered an early Rec record of gender dysphoria Elanor rner a male-bodied individual arrested in 1394 for living and working as a woman is recognized as a historical transwoman in the Balkans since the 1400s female
Assigned individuals have transitioned to live as men also known as sworn vir Japan is a history of trans individuals dating back to the Ido period in line with the groom’s operation there is an obsession with trans women’s body and the punishment of them one of the first
Trans women in World War II was put into a man’s prison just for being herself and this pleasure in enacting cruelty on women by placing them in positions to be abused can still sadly be seen today Nikita Dragon an influencer and content creator was arrested and held in a man’s
Unit of a Miami jail in 20 2022 to when she was arrested there was an outcry of perverse Delight in her dehumanizing treatment which is sadly common in both the punishment of women’s wrongs but also the constant dehumanization that all incarcerated inmates face while wrongdoings should be punished the act
Of someone doing something wrong seems to erase people’s Humanity in many individuals eyes there are many men and women who have done things wrong in their lives and it seems unfair to judge their entire personhood on one action or one trait I don’t have to like Nikita personally to understand that she still
Deserves to be treated humanely in the same way a workingclass boy who robbed food when he was 16 shouldn’t be left to rot for 20 years when he should be receiving support it’s extremely important to note as well that we hold public trans and CIS women to an extreme
Standard of the model minority otherwise we are happy to Dogpile and dehumanize them women like Natalie from Contra points or Lindsay Ellis are perfect examples of women who are publicly crucified on all sides of the political social Spectrum for rather minor reasons like having a video voice line read out
By a controversial transperson book Angel it reminds me that always that men like Matt Healey can say and do worse and get off scot-free it’s important to note the view of trans identity wasn’t always so negative especially in the United States World War II veteran Christian Jorgensen became one of the
First American transgender women to attain Fame for having sex reassignment surgery in 1952 she made the front page of the new New York Daily News under the headline xgi becomes blonde Beauty operation transforms Bronx youth in the following months hundreds of newspaper featured her story and she became an overnight sensation headlines emphasing
Her GI background and embraced her as the American Beauty as describing her with long legs blonde hair and high fashioned clothes Jan’s patriotism as a World War II veteran and beautiful feminine attributes embodied the American values and structures which cap captivated the public and press there
Also something to be said about Mara P Johnson and the fact that she was not met with the same type of outward expression of amazement and positivity that Jorgenson was probably to do with her fact that she was a POC trans woman who actively was in Gay Liberation
Activism and with Stonewall but I think that’s a whole other video probably these qualities of Jorgenson help explain why the press and American s Society celebrated Jorgenson’s story on May 3rd 1989 Jorgenson died from bladder and L cancer her story however offered a hope for transgender Veterans as they
Pursued self- fulfillment dren often said that the answer to the problem was not lie in sleeping pills and suicides that look like accidents or in jail cells but rather in life and freedom to live it the relative positivity of Jorgenson story and a reception is a far cry away from current political
Movements to remove care for people struggling with these issues even though she herself was met with both positive and negative reactions it’s striking how these articles about her at the time were so open now there is a concerted effort to force lgbtqi people back into conversion therapy as their existent asks both men
And women to consider their place in society if people wish and choose to live like this what things in society do you follow because you think you have to do men not deserve the same paternity time to spend with their kids as their wives am I a woman if I don’t want kids
Why should men fight in Wards to see them only as Cannon father when in a year’s time the people at the top who sent them out to fight will be dying ining and laughing together in the same Michelin star restaurants why should a woman be forced to have a child in an
Economy and world that does not view that child as a person but instead a unit of economic battery alas 2 focuses on a more distinctly feminine experience of essay and pregnancy now while essay is not inherently feminine in experience is generally seen as something that only happens to women something again we have
Discussed in depth which is false but pregnancy however is a very feminine experience similar to how bloodborne is evolved in and revolving around the cycles of the Moon the Mena cycle child birth and unwanted pregnancy Outlast also focuses on the idea of your body becoming something that is not your own
And something growing within you that you have no way of understanding or controlling the main protagonist’s wife Lynn becomes mysteriously pregnant despite not it being physically possible it reminds me of those stories of women who were in comas and hospitals for years waking up giving birth when they
Were not pregnant before the coma the body horror of pregnancy is one that is actually not not very well known in the general public to both men and women I’m sure everyone has heard of the girl who writes down the pregnancy you know side effects and something that I have
Touched on before so I won’t traumatize any of you and go back over it but if you want to look it up I would recommend you doing so but this goes on to the another topic of Gynecology which is a field of research which is connected to female reproductive systems and health
And it has very dark Origins unfortunately it was developed and created on the backs of black slave women the third female in itself is actually originating from slave women Jay Marian Sims was the father of Gynecology Sims made his research on the backs of enslaved women he owned and he
Made the word female to denote the patients he experimented on it was a way to differentiate the black women he was experimenting on from the white women he spoke adjacent to in polite Society I can’t really talk about what he did on YouTube so I would recommend you go look
Up the research of how he developed things like the speculum for yourself all I can say is is that the context and the origin of gynecologically in modern pregnancy practices will have you understanding why the whole thing seems barbaric is also important to knowe that Health procedures on men are
Statistically provided with More Pain Care regulation the reason why HPV is tested on women and not men is because it is believed that to test HPV on men would be uncomfortable in an experience for them not painful but uncomfortable it would require a pro probe to be
Inserted to you see which many doctors think is dehumanizing for men however women are routinely put through procedures that are not only uncomfortable but extremely painful without any medication have you ever heard of the practice of scraping a woman’s which is where you have a piece inserted into the woman and they root
Around and they scrape the walls of the womb and the CX and they take a chunk siiz piece of Flesh with a squeezer without any pain regulation and it’s horrifically painful on the woman’s body you’re given no medication you’re not knocked out you’re not giving local anesthetic you’ll just totally be mildly
Painful it is important to note that HPV is also one of the leading killers of men and women with Cancers but many doctors and practitioners seem to find it more important to protect the comfortability of male patients rather than test and save those same patients because of short-term discomfort the
Lack of access to education on Sexual Health both men and women is detrimental to their health and does indeed kill the origin of Gynecology is also why black women statistically are given less pain Reg ation in medication because they are believed physically that they do not need it even though that is
Statistically and unequivocally false it is also important to note that one thing that is touched on in outl last two is the religious aspects that are tied to pregnancy and suffering traditionally in Many religious circles and with our last two pregnancy pain contractions and all the things that come with pregnancies
These are seen as a woman’s punishment for Eve’s transgression in the Garden of Eden in late 2022 rumors Circle the internet yet again about the womanizing 17th century ruler of France King Lou Who was thought to have a fetish for watching women give birth yet the time standard practices were including
Kneeling squatting or sitting upright and using gravity in order to give birth however these methods obstructed the sun King’s view prompting him supposedly to require all women to give birth lying flat on their backs however this is more than likely exaggerated while historians think that this myth was somewhat true
It was accurate to say that while Louie took an interest in his wife’s birthing position it was actually a physician Maro which was considered to have greatly influenced the change in the birthing position it appeared that the media Publications at the time that covered the story embellished the role
Lou played in the transition birthing protocol until the mid 1500s midwives were among the primary people in attendance during births but at the same time Barber Physicians who as their name suggest were both Barbers and Physicians began to compete with mid and wives and caring for pregnant women this was
Partly because the church was trying to um remove women from jobs outside the home a reason why they encouraged the widescale persecution of medicine or Wise Women the church and higher level officials wanted to transition these skilled women’s work to men for economic and social reasons trained with little
Experience these early baral Physicians often threaten the lives of their patients by not doing things as simple as washing their hands or cleaning their tools things which were into common practice among with wives some great video essays which go further on this topic I can recommend are in Praise of
Shadows a history of Witchcraft series an intellectual Medias a black women’s history of hoodoo conjour and Witchcraft there is also aspect of religious sexual exploitation within our main character Blake’s religious trauma and the childhood death of his friend coming to the Forefront of his memory as he goes
Through the game it is alluded to that he might have suffered similar aspects of sexual trauma but has disassociated in order to protect himself from something which is very common with ual assault victims it also important to know that there’s a cyclical aspect to trauma because a lot of victims of
Similar assaults are also statistically more likely to suffer them again the threat of unwanted sexual advances is epitomized in one of the game’s villains Val again the aspects of Val’s gender identity is when I feel as tired and not as shocking as I thought it would be but
Again there is an aspect of this unwanted and unknown aspect of gender and sexuality and desire for a male character that transcends and transgresses his male sense of self Outlast 2’s mix of religious themes the disempowerment of any and all genders body horror and deep yonic horror is
Only rivaled by a few games in my mind fear and hunger being one of them but I will discus that later another aspect of our last two and fear and hunger story line is the fear of the Antichrist or a new God being born this can also been
Seen as an allegory for how you are carrying an unknown pregnancy with a child that is often a fear both from motherhood and a physical aspect of pregnancy whether or not you will be able to bond with your child or whether your child will be good the fear of an
Evil child or having to love an evil child is emblematic and common in media such as the omen or Rosemary’s Baby it is a mother’s worst fear to have a child and not be able to bond or like that child in the movie ladybird for example the main character asks her mother I
Know you love me but do you like me and that is part two I know I said I would probably try longer form content I’ll see how this is before it’s all edited uh but I am wrecked I am pooped I need to go and like sleep for 17 hours
Because um You probably noticed that I took a long time in the making between number one and number two that is partly because I had a death in the family and also because um researching this takes a lot out of you you kind of like very
