Holiday parades and floats or I should say floats and performers marching bands all sorts of organizations are represented here tonight it’s really special it really is special no question Nicole and not to mention some other surprises we have in store as you know this year’s theme is holiday magic and
Joining us now is the Parade’s feature Entertainer magician Zach MIRS but first let’s take a look at this story my name is Zach MIRS and I am a first generation American my dad’s from Iran my mom’s from Afghanistan they came here to America to live the American
Dream I saw a magic special like a TV special when I was a kid it was in the ’90s and my mom side of the family is from Afghanistan they had never seen magic before and and David Blaine he took a card and he gave that card to someone
And that card changed and in my mind I made the decision I want to do that for the rest of my life middle school high school career people started calling me the Magic Man and one thing led to another and it’s really cool because you know some of my family doesn’t even
Speak English and Magic is one of those few art forms despite your uh religion or race or langage anguage barriers you could experience the same thing all at the same time everybody thinks it’s it’s the trick or the method and and really the best thing about magic is to
Experience it with people because the the thing with magic is it’s supposed to make you feel like a kid again and that’s why I wanted to become a magician I was just all in at a very early age and I always grew up asking myself if I wasn’t a magician what would
I want to do and I never came came up with a really good answer outside of magic my favorite thing is being a dad a th% I’m taking my one-year-old daughter to the Parade of Lights this year we are so excited um for her to experience the lights the
Floats and everything in between now I’m going to be doing magic in the studio then we’re going to go out to the parade we’re going to be on a float and like any great magic show it’s going to have awe wonder and a lot of surprises it’s the most magical time of
Year okay so we have to say welcome to Zach because we look back at your incredible journey to get here and it’s been amazing to watch we’re so happy to have you with us tonight it’s an honor thank you so much for having me okay so
I want to know I I’m I’m not patient like you are I want to know what we’re going to see tonight yeah let me get your opinion on something real quick I got a deck of cards right over here everybody at home can see that they’re
All different Nicole what I want you to do this is going to be a mind reading trick okay you’re going to pick a a card you’re going to show it to the camera but it’s really important that me and Scott do not see the card at all does
That make okay I won’t look I’ll keep my eyes closed go ahead and just take any card out yeah go ahead and take card out and show it to the camera yep go ahead take it out take this one Che it out yep and show it to the camera make sure I
Can’t see it or Scott can’t see it my eyes cled and put it on the table okay put it on the table face down yes now here’s the thing most magicians will read your mind however going to read your I am you’re going to be a magician right now so
Scott um keep thinking about the card over and over again Nicole uh do you think it’s red or black I’m going to go red hearts or diamonds diamonds it’s just going to come to you in 32 one what is it seven of diamonds did I get it did I get it you
Guys get out of town that is insane how’ you do that what’s in that cup nothing this is just some tea right here y’all I don’t know I don’t know it’s kind of funny here let me show you one more thing do we have time for it
Yes we have time for it uh Scott yes have you seen one of these before oh yeah Rubik CU brain hurt all right Nicole you’re going to be the judge what’s going to happen is we’re going to take these Rubik’s Cubes we’re going to put it under the table and you’re going
To say go we’re going to mix them up whenever you say stop we’re going to put it back on the table whoever’s closer to the solve will get a the magic of the holiday from oh okay all right so whenever you’re ready say go go and mix mix mix mix mix mix it
Real nice mix it real good Scott and whenever you say stop you say stop right and stop all right don’t move okay put it over the table Scott okay that’s that’s pretty good yeah I did great yeah this is like this is pretty here’s the thing um Nicole
What who do you think is closer me or Scott I think you are okay well let’s go to one side first let’s go to the first side okay let’s see how we did wait a minute the green side are we symp mind check out check it out side number two ooh side number
Three side number four usually people dance but it’s okay you don’t have to uh side number five are you are you dumb sound here Nicole you’re as and side number six and there you go there we go this is cool and uh you were pretty close though sometimes
When you study the randomness of one of the cubes it could actually lead you to this let me see if I could do this hold on tell me if I’m close with this one okay you’re getting there I think you’re close maybe on it no you’re not oh my
Gosh there we go what I used to take the stickers off the cubes to make a match cuz I can never do it properly it’s so hard you did that onehanded yeah this is wow yeah good job that was amazing holiday magic amazing I love holiday magic and
I’m in your mind Nicole how that was crazy it was only with Zach’s help very impressive very don’t think of anything else I’m thinking though all right well hey Zach so much thank you so much for joining us appreciating it helping me learn the magic of the Season we’re not
Going to keep you we’re going to catch up with you shortly at the studio in Sundance Square and then later in the parade and then of course the GM Financial Parade of Lights is produced by downtown Fort Worth initiatives Inc and of course their mission is to just
Make downtown Fort Worth a vibrant and wonderful place to live work and play which we are appreciative of tonight’s parade participants are competing for bragging rights several different categories are up here talking large and professional floats we’re talking marching bands equestrian units we in Texas okay walking units and of course
The balloons everyone wants to see the balloons last year’s grand prize was awarded to ballet Fort for lorico day Fort Worth and their titled it was called the beauty of of Navidad in Mexico so we’re looking forward to seeing them again here tonight we have
To give our o to the old winners right other winners are the Gypsy soul of Texas and the studio 80 pirate ship oh I love a good pirate sh ship that is and speaking of bracking Rights each year the winning marching bands are invited to perform as the Parade’s lead marching
Band and the Santa band escorting Santa and Mrs Claus around the parade rout this year’s lead band is the Trinity Trojan marching band from Trinity High School in Ulus let’s take a look at their par and here from some talented Students the first time I actually got into band that was back way back in elementary school I’ve been in band for about 6 years now but really I started getting into music back in fifth and sixth grade when we learned how to play the recorder I’ve been in band for 6
Years and it started in seventh grade whenever I got to decide my instrument I started learning drum set when I was like around like 6 years old here I am at Trinity playing snare drum in the marching vanand it’s been one of the best experiences in my
Life last year was our first year doing the parade of light they had a lot of fun they got to dress up and they love the community support and it was very cold but I really enjoyed the experience and there were so many people and it was
So fun then when they found out that they were going to get to be the lead band they were that much more excited it’ll be very exciting to be kind of with the band cuz usually I’m just conducting them I’m just excited to experience like the crowd and like see
What it’s like just in the lights so I’m looking forward to being in the front where we get to kind of lead the parade so my dad works for GM Financial the company that sponsors the parade and so usually it’s been a tradition for my
Family to go every year and it was this full circle moment I I’ve come from growing up watching it and now I’m playing in it and marching in it and being a part of this surreal experience I don’t know about you but it is am amazing to hear all of the students stories and really see how this all comes together because this is the labor of love so I can’t wait to see their performance here tonight and they will be arriving here shortly so don’t go
Anywhere everybody get comfortable warm up cuz we’re not going anywhere now a question were you ever in band growing up you know what I was not in band that was we didn’t have a band in my high school did you not no and then College I
Just I didn’t do it you didn’t do it I was in marchie band growing up but I played the tener saxophone so came home one day told Mom and Dad I said I think I’m going to go in and play the saxophone and then they had to listen to
Me learn how to play the saxophone so many times uh and then joined marching band and was able to march uh across uh the country March in the Fiesta Bowl Parade March in the Orange Bowl Parade so I really know what goes into all of the hard work and the practice to be
Able to really participate in such an amazing parade as tonight it’s such an effort and it’s such a disciplined craft my mother was a majorette um so she knows how hard it is to be a part of the band too but I will say that watching it all come together watching everybody
Just show off how proud they are of all the work they put into this parade which by the way 41 years of this parade is that amazing 41 years that is fantastic and what’s interesting is that there is a requirement of the number of lights that actually have to be on your entry
To be part of this parade so little tidbits if you’re just now joining us as we’re waiting for the parade to arrive I’m going to make sure I read this properly so all right they had to be a minimum requirement of Lights cars golf carts and tractors must have at least
1,500 lights trucks need at least 2500 lights and large floats can require more than 4,000 lights just to qualify uh for this holiday spectacular and I think it’s amazing to see like you think of when kids get that excitement that that innocent Joy of seeing all the Christmas
Lights and putting up your your holiday parade there we’ve done stories or holiday decorations IED to say oh look at us yeah hey we’re a couple streets away but you’re looking at the Trinity High School Trojan band out of Keller yeah and they are the premier band uh
They are able to lead it off and uh as you can see Nicole it it’s empty behind us right now as we are here but we’re waiting for the parade to arrive a and if you were like me and and with Dad I had to check every single light
Sometimes on the house and the tree and back in the day up we couldn’t have the color like one light by the other light had to like no no greens next to each other had to unscrew and move the other one thankfully the lights have improved
Over the number of years but 41 years uh for the parade and the excitement is there they’re just a couple of blocks away from us right we’re waiting for them and and just a reminder of what they’re competing for tonight because this is a big deal okay they’ve they’ve
They’ve got bragging rights on the line and we’re talking for several categories so I want to tell you what they are large and professional floats we’ve got the we’ve got the police bring down our uh marching band equestrian unit walking units and the balloons and then of course last year’s grand prize in
Director’s Choice went to the Texas girls choir float that is f they’re excited to see who wins it this year yeah absolutely and we are excited that we have a couple of our finest working their way right here uh by where we are broadcasting so glad to have them here
But again the excitement is just moments away Nicole I I have a question yes are you a decorate before Thanksgiving or after Thanksgiving type of person when you get when you get your holiday decorations up in my family we did it after Thanksgiving like growing up as a
Kid as a young adult on my own I would I left my Christmas tree up till June last year so I would literally do it right now if I have the ability I love decorating as soon as possible cuz it just gets you in the spirit you get your
Holiday coffee and then it’s like the decorations and then I start watching Christmas movies before Thanksgiving and then there’s Christmas in July as well absolutely and and whatever holiday you celebrate this really is the time of the year and this parade really getting us into the holiday magic as we told you
About there’s so much magic when it comes uh to celebrating the holidays and all of us kind of getting together here in North Texas and all of us celebrating in family and as we know with friends that become family uh it’s just a whole lot of fun it’s all about cherishing the
Memories that you have in the archive and making new memories right it’s all about just special time together and there’s just something about the holidays Christmas like you said whatever you celebrate that it just reminds you of how precious this time is how important this time is and it just
Gets you in the mood to just be in the spirit of generosity and love and kindness which is what we love and care about all right we’re watching some more of our fantastic police escorts come down the street here yep getting all the crowd and the anticipation keeps building and
Building story I’m not sure if you have one go my Grandma Marie who’s now 96 for us lived here in North Texas Grandma her presents see the thing is grandma likes to look for her presents ahead of time and there was one year that she found her presents and then she
Tried on all of her clothes and then she forgot to put it away so she tried on all of her clothes and then left them all laying out on the bed and we’re like Grandma we we know you tried on your clothes you know one year I did that I
Found all of my gifts my mom did not have a good hiding spot but I think about it I’m like okay she was a working mom a husband kids like she didn’t have time to find a good hiding spot right so I found all my gifts and then I felt
Terrible I felt terrible cuz I I saw all of them she knew I found them I you Wen a good no I wasn’t you could pretend like wow this is the best I’ve ever seen no I couldn’t do it but I I never did that again I’m like okay I’m just going
To be patient now one thing I did do is if it was under the tree yeah I would shake it of course you have to figure it out it and shake and under the tree it was it was up for grabs I could shake it absolutely up for grabs we have more of
Our finest kind of working their way through and you know there so many families that are out here tonight Nicole little ones big and small kids of all ages I see the cutest little kid over here in like a little reindeer outfit love what else do we have over
Here they’re just so adorable yes everyone’s just dressed up for the parade and this has become a tradition for so many years I mean it’s been 41 years so maybe kids when they were younger Nicole uh they were little ones and now they’ve grown up they have kids
Of their own and they’re continuing on that family tradition and I think that that’s a beautiful thing when you have your family around and you can continue that Legacy and build those memories together it’s the thing that puts you guys all in proximity to each other emotionally physically and it just gives
You something to look forward to and it’s something that they probably talk about every single year and like I can’t wait uh for the GM Financial Parade of Lights cuz that’s just tradition for us here in our in our family uh and we are so close it seems like they are just
Turning the corner I can peek down a little bit from my vantage point and you definitely don’t want to excitement down there you can see there the lights they are off in the distance and again we’re going here to our our first uh finally here the 2023 GM Financial Parade of
Lights as we said celebrating 41 years the parade brings the magic of the holidays to over 100,000 cheering Spectators here in downtown Fort Worth and on televisions and small screens everywhere you can see the Parade of Lights it is working its way here into the grand stands as you can see a
Beautiful lit up sign cuz it’s the parade to light you got to have you got to have your lights right so proudly carrying the colors for us tonight is our own Fort Worth police mounted Patrol there they are with the Texas flag the American flag the Mount of Patrol by the
Way first established in 1873 giving you a little history here and it was mostly volunteers when this thing started so in the 80s the Mount of Patrol actually became a formalized unit of both men and women it became official and legit today the mount unit Patrol can be seen all
Around the city we see them all the time on their horses out at community events as so we’re giving them a very warm GM welcome here I want to say a howdy right Howdy Folks all right here we go this is the one that my dad wants along with this title
Sponsorship GM Financial is the official vehicle sponsor of this year’s parade stunning 2023 Corvette Stingray many GM vehicles are manufactured at GM’s assembly plant right here in Taran County including the Chevrolet Tahoe Suburban GMC Yukon Yukon XL and who can forget the luxurious Cadillac Escalade that’s my favorite dad texts me every
Year and he’s like he puts that on his Christmas list I think I get the matchbox I get the matchbox version cuz that’s that’s all I can do for Le right now you that’s a good son that’s a good Sun all right let’s let’s get to the
Trinity Trojan marching band so this is the lead band from Trinity High okay consistent finalists every time they’re in a marching uh contest around the DFW area so they are amazing this year they were named Grand champions of the Golden Triangle marching contest play in first overall so give them their amazing
Applause right winning caption awards for best percussion best visual effect and best music Ensemble I learned enough from being in parades and parents watching sometimes they want to just hear the band so we’re going to a moment to pause to hear the amazing band there you Go [Applause] [Applause] And Nicole I my feet are like already marching in Step I’m over here B popping side to side I love them with the candid and there are the saxophones you go saxophones that was mine right there the ten saxophone absolutely love their costumes too and look I mean the are lit
Up they’re all lit up everything has lights everything has lights they’re in the right place I think Nicole I might have to walk around with lights on for like the rest of the holiday season I think that that would be the the best could you imagine can you imagine us in
The Newsroom together over at CBS in in lit up costumes we should do that I think we’ll have to figure it out one day we work that into your forecast all right we’re going to move on now to the Fort Worth scholarship organization we welcome 2024 Miss Fort Worth Cassidy
Scott and miss teen Fort Worth Taylor cross they’re going to be competing for the titles of Miss Texas 2024 and Miss Teen Texas next June in Richardson now if they do win that State title Nicole they’re going to going compete go to Florida to compete for Miss America or
Miss America’s teen uh they win a lot of scholarship money I think Miss Texas if she does uh if they do win Miss Texas uh they win 20 to $30,000 in scholarship that’s such a big deal that’s that’s an amazing contribution to the to the academic community and I know you do so
Much work with them so I’m sure you’re really proud yeah I do volunteer myself I know Cassidy well I know Taylor as well so it’s great to be able to see them here and look their crowns are lit up uh so you can see hi ladies hey Cassidy how are you gorgeous gorgeous
Gals they are all decked out and I love that car you like that you want that car too I love that one so your dad wants the other one the stingray I’ll take that one got it uh up next I want to show you the ballet for gloro ketal this
Is amazing guys look at the front of that car so this was established back in 2015 and they are here in Fort Worth okay they’re local and they’ve been captivating the audiences here with the art of dancing B ballet f gloro it is a beautiful art if you’ve ever seen the
Performance it is full of such passion and such such talent K all right now always accepting new members so if this is something you want to get into this is the place to do it this is the group you want to be with they are a family and they spread awareness of Mexico’s
Very rich culture through dance it is something that we featured actually uh during Hispanic Heritage Month and to really learn about the history of the art and the history of the dance was so enlightening to me it it’s so beautiful when you see them moving together
Lovely and as you can see a great float as well you know Nicole if we’re going to like wear lit up costumes throughout the news room this might be what we need to do or maybe we need to join they need to teach us how to do this it’s
Incredible oh my God look at the little babies happy are so cute oh my gosh it’s so rooted in Tradition so rooted in in their culture that each dance move is really symbolic and it’s gorgeous to see look at them all and you can see a wide
Variety ages of Ages of the performers really carrying on the tradition something they probably learned when they were younger and they continue to carry it on from generation to generation very young children on the on the float yes as well maybe not be able to do the dance yet but definitely
Celebrating in the tradition here supporting their group yeah fantastic hey guys happy Holidays happy holidays oh my God I love it they look fantastic Spirit following behind them we have Trinity Metro twinkly magic Timeless memories and jolly old toy makers love Trinity Metro they celebrate their fairf free 40th anniversary with

Brighter place to be and it really captures the future of our of our nation of our communities of everything they’re much more than cookies you know they’re they’re a mentorship program they learn so many life skills and they’re out in the community and continuing to build they work together with so many other

Those kids watching them grow up and watching them achieve their goals and when you bring a group of young people together and they make sacrifices for each other and and really become a team and that’s a fun thing to be a part of I just want to thank Fort Worth for
All their support and and what they do for our student athletes and our families and and our our players I mean it just means the world to to all of us to have that kind of support and anytime I get a chance to get out and see folks

Here now their kids who are older adults have their own families are bringing their kids there’s always something for someone here the heart of the organization is education with what we do is bringing that educational component celebrating how Latinos have contributed in the foundation of this great nation through a variety of
Different Industries Parade of Lights for us as a whole as an organization is very exciting it culminates a year of all the programming bringing smiling faces to the community and we always encourage parents to participate with their children because seeing the parade as a spectator but it’s completely different when you’re
Inside looking out uh when you’re actually in the parade to a degree it is a performance you’re bringing that cheer uh of the holiday season for everyone so we definitely love It they are celebrating 24 years of P persevering promoting and Inter interpreting the art culture lives and history of the Latino Community for all to enjoy the float that you’re going to be able to see as they’re working their way here to the Grand stands uh is

Reach if it wasn’t for the Arts there aren’t the same ways that we can connect to each other it’s more than just arts and entertainment it’s really a facet of Being Human we offer all of the fine and Performing Arts we have several students that have undergraduate degrees in the
Arts and master’s degrees in the Arts we talk a lot about dance and physics to understand momentum trajectory and there’s not necessarily separation but there’s a balance between the two even students who don’t go in major in dance they take what they learn from here and
They apply it to other aspects of their life I’m going into engineering and I’m willing to put 30 40 hours of my time a week into dance cuz engineering there’s a lot of work to do a lot of math a lot of science it can be very overwhelming
But the discipline I’ve learned here helped me figure out a pathway through that a teacher a long time ago always told me that dance training is Life Training it’s helped me become more professional in a sense and um have a foundation and set principles for myself
Yeah the Arts is really based off of community and that’s what really helps bring everyone together it’s something I think everyone should experience at least once once you perform on stage and you feel the heat of the lights and energy of the crowd it’s kind of hard to
Just stop I couldn’t think of anything else I wanted to do with my life other than educate students about the amazing possibilities through Dance three different companies y’all representing TCC Northwest Northeast and Southeast and we’re talking more than 60 students who have put in hundreds of hours of practice it is not easy they are dedicated to their craft just to get ready for tonight as well as performances and appearances throughout
The school year plus School you that too so all of these dancers here they are it’s a lot of them so just stick with us here their mascot is torto the Trailblazer he’s having fun on the float they’ll they’ll be passing us here by in

And visitors of Taran County a Joyce holiday season and best wishes for the new year I don’t think the pooper scoopers were in there but no they were supposed to be they’re coming up next actually so they were out of place it’s okay but I’ll get them back we can try
That again we probably can try their their Battle Cry don’t you think they’ll you think they’ll do it for me I think they might here okay here are the pooper scoopers they were a little bit out of order but here we are they had some work to do along the Route which we
Definitely understand okay it’s a dirty job but somebody has to do it you guys I say pooper there we go all right it was all right we say pooper you say scooper there they are shovels by the way all right so as we’re moving on I think it’s the Girls Choir
