Actually had to pair up with them for homecoming stuff like that and then you just start a conversation that’s natural and then they automatically feel like they know who you are they automatically feel like you know they’ve made a connection with you just off that small conversation you never know how being in
A Greek organization can impact you in a great way as you know MPAC organizations houses some of the best well-known prominent black leaders black politicians lawyers doctors businessmen entrepreneurs business women you never know who you’re gonna run into who will be interviewing you who you’re gonna network with who will help you
Land your next opportunity whenever you go to a conference whenever you go to a chapter meeting whenever you just meet somebody randomly and they happen to be in your organization you never know how that relationship or that connection will land you to your next opportunity and in the workplace these days you’re
Gonna be working on a bunch of people but it’s always an instant connection with the Greeks you know I’m saying like in undergrad you might be like oh I don’t like Delta’s I don’t like decades and I don’t like the alphas or omegas and this and that and daters are now I
Like them but when you actually graduate and you go into the workforce and you meet another Greek member in mph see whether they’re dealt or whether they a Kappa anything outside the organisation that you’re in it’s an automatic instant connection like y’all just get together and mesh well because it’s like you
Already kind of know what each other is about what each other went through it and it’s like a bond that you automatically have that’s a connection in itself right there and you don’t know if that member will be at a senior level you don’t know if they’ll be at the same
Level with you or if you’re coming in at a higher level than them you never know so it helps out in that regard because you automatically have a community and someone to vouch for you or can possibly vouch for you later on now when it comes to getting
Opportunities so whenever I had an interview and I noticed that the person that was interviewing me was a Greek usually what I do is I do some research if I know who the interviewer is gonna be gonna LinkedIn Facebook somewhere it might be a little you know sound a
Little crazy might sound a little sketch to be on Facebook looking for your interview but you never know what type of connects you can make you got to do some research on your interviews so you can kind of know what question asks how to you know position yourself in the
Best way possible to get the job so that’s what I do I do a lot of research whenever I’m interviewing or if I know who the interviewer is I remember one time I was interviewing and I didn’t do too much research on this person but I didn’t notice that this person was I
Think there was a member of what was it I think there was a cap but yet it was a Kappa and he just happened to have the lapel pin on his blazer and you know as soon as I walked then you know I introduced myself he
Introduced himself and I saw lapel pin I was like man you were in the wrong colors man like what’s going on like if it ain’t blue it ain’t true like and that just automatically started like laughter conversation and the interview just felt so genuine and good and
Laid-back I feel like my connection that I made with him and just breaking the ice soon as I walked in kind of let him know who I was as a person like I’m not just I’m not a stuffy person I like showing my attitude I like being positive I like high-energy atmosphere
And environments like it showed that and I think he liked that and of course I got offered a job I didn’t take the job now when you actually get a job and you meet people extra job and they have to be in an NPHC organization or heck the
Same organization as you they look out for you they look out for you as far as giving you recommendations performance feedback take you under their wing recommend you for promotion and even with my job now like I’m a corporate recruiter you know I have accounts at
Different campuses that I go to when I went to the Career Center to introduce myself to the staff there to start building rapport and so get some interns and job opportunities out of that particular school I had my lapel pin oh I actually had my bracelet on and the
Guy was like what’s up mom and I was like what’s up I actually need to talk to you like are you the person I opposed to be meeting with like he was the assistant director of career and development and I was meeting with the assistant director career development we
Had a meeting set up with him and it was like chopping it up with a friend like who’s like yeah this is our demographic at the school I can help you get in with this organization we could do this right here that’s love man like it’s just that
Instant connection that you never know can help you with your job like that literally helped me with my job like literally helped me just that one connection so every time I go to that campus that account I have a connect there and somebody to go to if something
Is going wrong if I need some help with something I can go to that guy it’s hard to explain how important and how key it is to take advantage of the networking in MPAC organization or Greek system like it’s big and a lot of people undermine the networking opportunities a
Lot of people don’t even think about the networking opportunities when they look to join an organization they just be like yeah I’m trying to join there’s a step and stroll I’m trying to get some barriers people don’t be thinking about the networking opportunities like yo this will give me access to so many
Different type of people so many different areas I probably never even would have thought myself what we had you know is like so really think about EPA see organizations professionally – don’t just think about it for social business and you know just community service think about it professionally
Think about how this organization can help you professionally let’s say you are girl you want to join a sorority and you know the tap you want to join have a bunch of nurses they graduate nurses like clockwork nice and and then they have even some women doctors in the
Chapter that’s what you want to do wouldn’t that inspire you to want to be a part of that chapter so you can get access to that networking opportunity and first-hand experience to talk to those nurses and those doctors that came from that chapter to mentor you to coach
