Hello everyone welcome to our virtual START info session on how to join a sorority. My name is Stephanie and I’m the Executive Director of the Multicultural Greek Council. The session will explain the different joining processes for OSU sororities.

Hello, my name is Dominique Holman and I’m a representative of the National Pan-Hellenic Council. Fraternity and sorority life have a rich legacy at OSU; the community was established 138 years ago. There are 3,000 Greek members at Oregon State. We have 45 chapters on campus and our community continues to grow.
We have 8 chapters with cultural and multicultural interests, 4 chapters with academic interest, 28 chapters that are housed and two chapters that were founded at OSU and are unique only to our campus. Our community is diverse and thriving, we really believe that there’s a place to belong for everyone.
Hi, I’m Alex and I’m the Vice President of Recruitment for the Panhellenic Council. The fraternity and sorority community has six core values that guide our programs. These values are: Scholarship; chapters have GPA requirements to join and the Greek community’s GPA is historically higher than all University GPA.
Philanthropy; the OSU Greek community raised over 360,000 dollars last year to support nonprofit organizations. Community service; members complete volunteer hours within the Corvallis community and support campus events. Leadership; students can develop leadership skills by holding positions both in their chapters and within the FSL community.
Friendship; joining a fraternity or sorority provides you at the tight-knit community to support you in your college journey. Inclusivity; perhaps our most important value and we achieve this by working to create opportunities for students of all backgrounds and identities to join our community.
Check out the CFSL and council websites for more on how we live these shared values. Hello my name is Jasmine and the VP of Public Relations for the Collective Greek Council. Now on to the main event how to join our chapters and find your place to belong.
We will now dive deeper into learning more about the councils that have sororities and what their joining processes look like. Keep in mind some of these dates we will share our subject to change due to the COVID-19 response.
We have 19 sororities at Oregon State which are each a part of 4 different councils. You can learn more about individual sororities on the chapter profile tab of the CFSL website. First up we have the Collective Greek Council, which is a special and unique part of our OSU community.
We currently have 4 CGC chapters that are interest-based they include focuses in agriculture, art and design, engineering and science. None of the CGC chapters have houses but often meet in buildings where members have majority of their classes.
We encourage you to attend the meet and greet on September 24th; it is a great chance to meet our chapters and learn more about joining. You can also reach out to the chapters that you’re interested in to get more information.
Generally, CGC chapters will have one to two weeks of events then we’ll extend invitation for membership before beginning the new member process. We hope to see you at the meet and greet! The Multicultural Greek Council serves members of multicultural fraternities and sororities
Including LatinX, Asian interest, and Native American based chapters. While each of our groups have a cultural affinity that is connected to their founding each also strongly connected to multicultural identity. We currently have two Latino/Latina sororities and one Native American sorority.
None of our groups have chapter houses but often meet in one of our cultural resource centers on campus. Our council has a strong connection to social justice principles and you don’t have to identify of them as a member of a certain cultural group to join one of our chapters.
We’re holding a meet and greet event on Wednesday September 23rd. This is a great chance informally hanging out and get some our chapters. Can’t wait to see you there! The National Pan-Hellenic Council or Divine Nine encompasses the historically Black fraternities and sororities.
There is one NPHC sorority that is active on campus, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. We have three additional NPHC sororities at OSU but currently don’t have any members. There are still opportunities to join these organizations. If you’re interested see the CFSL website for more information.
None of the NPHC chapters have houses but often meet at the Lonnie B Harris Black Cultural Center here on campus. You don’t have to be Black to join an NPHC organization, our chapters are inclusive and welcoming to people of all backgrounds.
We are hosting an NPHC trivia night on Tuesday, September 29th where you can learn more about our community. We’d love to see you there! The joining process for our MGC or NPHC chapters are slightly different and is called membership intake.
If you’re interested in joining one of our MGC or NPHC sororities try to attend as many council-sponsored events as possible. Individual organizations also host various programs and activities on campus. You can introduce yourself at these events to members of the sorority that you’re interested in and let them
Know that you would like to learn more about their organization. Each chapter will hold their own membership intake process and as a general rule, several MGC and all NPHC organizations do not accept students who don’t already have
An established GPA at OSU. It is always best to check with the individual chapters about their own intake process. The Panhellenic Council is a sorority only governing council. We currently have 11 Panhellenic chapters at OSU and all of our chapters are housed.
We utilize a formal recruitment process which takes place in the fall starting with orientation on Wednesday, September 30th and ending on Tuesday, October 6 with Bid Day. It’s important to note that fall formal recruitment is the only opportunity to meet all 11 Panhellenic Chapters.
Many of our chapters will be full following fall formal recruitment for the rest of the academic year. Registration is required to participate in fall formal recruitment; you can sign up online at any time until Monday September 28th at noon. Registration is currently $50 and the price will increase in September, so don’t delay!
