Liken ourselves to him by offering our will to the will of the father it’s easy to follow God when things are going well my friends but how do we do when it’s tough Christ was under such distress in the garden that he sweat great drops of blood and my friends he didn’t ever
Though turn away from the will of the father he leaned into it and I love how it says in this text that the angel came and strengthened him friends God has promised that if we give our will to his even though we’re going to walk through some difficult times we will never walk

Do anything to Jesus he has no Authority they take him to pilate and pilate doesn’t want to mess with Jesus he doesn’t want to deal with this but in order to try to appease the the bloodthirsty crowd he has Jesus taken and flogged and this whipping this beating would be
Torturous but was it because Jesus deserved it no my friends it was because we deserved it the book of Isaiah prophesied 600 years earlier in chapter 53 that he would be wounded for our transgressions bruised for our iniquities the chastisement for our peace would be upon him and by his

Do and we’re called by Christ to unite our sufferings with his and and part of that unification is turning over all of that that that stuff in our hearts that goes against the will of God it’s turning that over to Christ it’s saying that this trial is not going to lead me
Into bitterness or or or away from the Lord but is rather going to allow me to more fully give myself to him that’s what it means to unite yourself with Christ if you say well give this suffering to Jesus but I really need everybody to feel sorry for me or I
Really need everybody to do this for me or do that for me and I’m not talking about you know needing help of course Christ needed help Simon the sirene helped him carry his cross that’s not what I’m talking about I’m talking about when we use those those difficult
Situations that we find ourselves in as an excuse to uh act in self-destructive ways or act in sinful ways towards others you know what I’m talking about you ever do that you ever say well I I’m going through a difficult time so I should be allowed to do
XYZ friends to unite our sufferings with Christ is to say it all belongs to him and when we do that we’ll find that as we’re focused on his mission that the patience that we seek it just kind of comes naturally because patience and impa impatience rather is about a lack
Of control and when we offer up ourselves completely to the Lord we’re not in control anymore and we don’t care my friends and that’s the bottom line so let’s give ourselves completely to him let’s unite our sufferings with him and let’s like he said carry our cross and follow him Our
