Gratitude that Corporal burrito and Deputy Santos will be able to be at home this Christmas to spend it with their loved ones I think we just got the greatest gift ever knowing that Corporal burito is going to be at home with with his family yes they have a long road and a
Difficult road to recovery but but the two of these deputies continue to amaze me with their strength and their courage each and every day as they approach this difficult rehabilitative process I have to take a moment just to thank all the health care practitioners everyone here at Encompass Health thank you thank you
What you continue to do for our our deputies to make sure that they have the brightest Outlook and outcome to this difficult road ahead that each of them still continue to face I have to take a moment and just say thank you to this community this community has reminded us
Why we do this job this outpouring of love and support that we’re witnessing today and that we continue to witness each and every day it’s what makes us be able to kiss our loved ones goodbye and go out to the shift ahead not knowing what that shift’s going to entail it’s this

Everyone from the deputies that responded to the scene and were able to put the touret on my leg uh to hcfr that got me to Tampa General quick to all the doctors and nurses at Tempa General to all the deputies that came to see me every day
To the hundreds of cars that we got from all over the country the community and here at en Compass they were I was only here for two weeks but they were amazing uh my PT Jason and Emily and my OT Britney they definitely made a difference
On on me being able to do the basic things like going to the restroom and you know transferring from the bed to the wheelchair myself uh I joke a lot but I can’t think of a joke right now but I have appreciate all the support everybody’s given to us to
Me and my family and Santos and his family and I just want people to know that you know I know it’s very cliche that that but you know we become a cop because we want to Serve and Protect but it is true I just that day I got up the only one
That was awake in my household was my little baby she just say da da and I went to work with the guys and we may or may not have been at Starbucks before we left but when a call comes we just respond and try to help unfortunate things happens
But I’m not the one to give up and soon enough I’ll be standing back how does it feel to be leaving the hospital today to be going home first of all I’m glad it’s not 40° on anymore cuz I can’t take the cold but it feels good to feel the
Sun to know that I can go home I haven’t been home in 45 days and and they won’t wake me up at 6:00 in the morning anymore to draw my blood uh but it feels good just to be able to be with my daughters and my wife and everybody at
Home uh I’ll be doing in home PT and shortly after I’ll be doing out patience somewhere corpal how how loudly do you hear the prayers of the community and people who are you know not in we’re interacting with you every day in person how much of a difference does that make
When you’re rehabing in this situation I’ll be honest of you before you know those that that say oh I know what you’re going through but never been through can’t quite say but when this happened to us and you know I have Letters From New York New Jersey and
Even letters from local from the Brandon area people that you know are cooking us food and just reaching out that’s when we were like you know there are bad things that happen but the majority is going to be good and people really just want to help your
Your colleague promises he’ll be back in the field one day he did say six months I’m going to say five months and 30 days to me I got to beat him I got to beat him but you know I mean you you believe you’ll be back out without any doubt
Serving I I’m very honest I want to however there is no telling if I’ll have 10% Mobility with my leg or 100 there’s no telling right now cautious uh Sheriff what does it tell you about these two that you have a number of their colleagues from this office and
Other departments who are here to support them today this is a shining example of why law enforcement officers around the country want to work in this community look at the fraternity look at the Brotherhood look at the strength here his Squad that’s here today on their day off they’re they continue to
Carry the torch they continue to keep our community safe by two of their fellow brother do everything they can to recover so they can come back and join them exactly where they left off I I don’t know if I can put in the words I wouldn’t want to do this anywhere else
In the country I would only want to do it here in the Tampa Bay Community and I think if you ask the the officers the staff here with Largo Police or his squadmates or fellow officers from the Hillsboro County Sheriff’s Office they would tell you the same thing no thank
