To raise a family you don’t really hear about a lot of crime especially violent crimes going on in Brandon but even safe communities can be rocked by violence at around 8:30 that evening Hillsboro County 911 receives a flurry of frightened calls 91 emergency there was just gunot fired at our apartment complex how many shots did you hear I heard shots there by myself and I heard all those gun
Shots this was a a newer apartment complex very expensive for everybody that was with an earshot that was a shocking sound to hear but the real shock is what residents see outside their Windows someone got shot someone is on the ground is she awake and breathing oh I don’t want to go down
There everybody is afraid their quiet evening is Shattered by violence everyone was locking their doors pulling down the shades we’ve got help on the way out there okay when First Responders arrive they find exactly what the callers described someone sprawled on the ground next to a
Car I need some help this woman lying on the ground is an African American woman she’s wearing nursing scrubs Stay With Me the doors of the car were flung open and there was a pool of blood and at least one resident of the complex is doing everything he can to
Help her he had his own shirt off trying to stop the blood coming from her body as First Responders take over the resident is able to give them the woman’s identity what’s her name uh Renee Renee Williams 55-year-old Renee Williams always put others before herself if you knew Renee then you knew that her life mission was to help people Renee Williams was a doting mom she was a great mom to her children and grandchildren and the children in the Community she had a part-time job as caretaker for disabled adults but she also was the teacher’s aid she was somebody who really took pleasure took joy in helping students helping them learn to read helping them in their classes it wasn’t about the pay it was the payoff making sure that people knew
That they were cared about Rene’s students weren’t the only ones she cared about either she looked out for the entire staff at her school she never thought that she was above anyone instead she brought everybody El whether it was a custodian whether it was the younger teachers Renee you
Didn’t know have to do all this oh it’s no problem you know I really enjoy this you know I do and is this for me it is girl you are too sweet oh my goodness we appreciate you and I adore you I appreciate you she was just an amazing human being

Already getting their first tip on the suspect a guy walk away from his car he had a gun his car had a gun Officer secured the witness in a patrol car for the detectives and then started blocking off the rest of the crime scene when detectives arrive their first
Order of business is speaking to the witness who saw the shooter hey how’s it going okay can you tell me what you heard heard of what you saw tonight A Witness said he was the apartment manager and that he was inside watching television when he heard three or four loud bangs in Rapid
Secession when I heard that shots I looked in the window right away he said that at first he didn’t know they were gunshots there was a lot of teenagers living in this complex so he assumed they were fireworks at first you know since I’m a manager you
Know if there’s a fire works or whatever I have to I have to go outside nothing hey you can’t do that here when he happened to glance out the window he saw a a large heavy set black male in his 30s or 40s with bald head walking
Past pretty big guy oh yeah big guy do you see his face no I barely saw the face but my wife she was part next to them when she left the apartment manager says that his wife was leaving and she saw Renee and the man in question as well the
Manager’s wife had left approximately 30 minutes prior to the shooting when detectives follow up with the manager’s wife she is able to add a lot more information there was a car parked right next to my car there was the woman sitting in the driver’s seat the
Gentleman had the door all the way open and he was kind of like kneeled inside her car scar me she couldn’t hear what they were saying they were very quiet but she could tell that this was not a friendly conversation she noticed Renee Williams was crying as she was sitting in that motor
Vehicle I just assume you know she was upset she tried to get out of the parking space but he was actually blocking the ability for her to leave that Space I waited a little bit thinking maybe he saw me that he would close the door a little bit for me to back up cuz I would have hit the car if I tried to back up okay so I inched my way a little
Bit um he still didn’t see me I did it again and then he turned and looked at me he closed the door a little bit and then I kind of waved at him saying thank you there was no emotion no smile nothing on his face she couldn’t get
Over the fact of how his eyes looked they looked cruel and had you ever seen either of these people before I’ve seen her before I have a neighbor right across from me and she was his caregiver okay and what about um the gentleman that was with her no I’m

Once he was outside with the dog he noticed that Renee was sitting in her car in the parking lot she saw me she said hi I said I to he also saw what he described as a larger heavy set African-American male kneeling in the doorway next to where
Rene was there’s nothing else I need to hear he saw her and this man engage in a very tense it looked like very intense conversation all I hear conversation she was saying something that I’m stressed out he said he didn’t want to pry so he put his headphones in and went about his
Business and he went back into the apartment a few minutes later he heard what he believed to be fireworks heard three things I think none of it that is until he heard the sirens approaching he looked out and realized that Renee was now lying in a pool of blood so this witness corroborates
Everything that everyone else has said his descriptions match the other Witnesses but he also didn’t recognize the man he saw with Renee thank you appreciate before detectives move on to try to ID their shooter they have one more witness to speak with the man who’d been trying to
Save Rene’s life he also lived in the complex taking care of his elderly mother are you in the medical field I have em training okay so you knew where to look for a PO yeah when he saw Renee bleeding on the pavement he didn’t hesitate to rush to her

Heartbreaking I think most people when they hear gunshots especially in our our community you think of a younger person or another type of crime not a woman like Renee who gave back to the community who was going to fulfill her job duties to become a victim you just

Witnesses are able to give detectives is a general description of Renee’s killer they all describe seeing an African-American male between 5’9 and 62 bald head larger build hoping to learn more the detectives keep knocking on doors around the complex they are interviewing multiple people there were lots of
People who heard the shots but they were unable to find anyone who could tell them any more about the shooting or how the killer fled an electronic surveillance is unable to fill the gaps the apartment complex where Miss Williams was killed does not have surveillance video no one had any
Doorbell cam or cell phone video of the suspect either one would think that with as much technology as much cameras are there that something would have been seen on camera in this case there was absolutely no videos showing who the shooter was as detectives are wrapping up what
They can do at the scene Rene’s son arrives at the apartment complex looking for his mother at first people were like this is kind of suspicious in these cases everybody is a potential suspect until they’re not so law enforcement starts questioning him well why are you here at

Composure he tells detectives that his mother had recently been afraid of something or someone every time she used to ask me to come outside when she get out she would ask you to come outside and escort her inside to the house yeah okay did she say why she
Felt just tough man she felt what she thought you follow but if that’s the case who was he the son is asked who might have done this does she have any enemies he right away started blurting out who he thinks the suspect is rich questioned by detectives after he’d
Shown up at the crime scene Renee William’s son says he thinks he knows who gunned down his mother outside the Suburban Tampa apartment complex the first thing he says is Richard did it who is Richard there a dude she was dating K my do you know his last
Name okay and are they still dating no she had broken it off with him about how long ago was that a month ago did she say why she couldn’t could the breakup be a motive for murder some people cannot handle rejection breakups are hard you know if
One person still feels like they want to be in a relationship and the other person doesn’t some men think that they have ownership of the person if you say I’m dating you or you’re my girlfriend then they feel like they have ownership and how dare you say no to me or you don’t
Want to see me anymore but did it lead to Rene’s death it seems plausible to the detectives in cases like this one of the first people law enforcement looked to is a significant other or an ex significant other of the victim the sun did say that Richard did match that
Description that Witnesses have come forward with big black he kind of got a ball here every set but does that mean Richard is their suspect this was a very generic description has he threatened her before no did she ever say specifically that she was afraid of Richard no

Makes you go H what kind of gu you got that’s an odd question to ask somebody especially a detective knowing that your mother has just been killed the detectives certainly were taken by surprise what makes you ask that cuz my gun was sto okay tell me about
That this happened like my gun was sto like in the Ender lot was it taken from your house did you last know to have it at your house it was my car car and what car in my car okay all right and what kind of gun was it according to our son
His gun was State 45 caliber firearm it matches the murder weapon was it reported at all yes it was through the Sheriff’s Office mhm do you have the paperwork for it for serial number or anything still yes he said he can produce the receipts but now law
Enforcement must be thinking why is he mentioning this to us now why is he asking us about this firearm anything else you can tell me no that’s the only person I not believe did Richard it did what you talking about stealing your gun or you talking about harming your mom he
Believes that Richard is the person who killed his mother after finishing with Renee’s son detectives head back to the station to dig up background info on Richard Rene’s son didn’t know about any violence from Richard toward his mom but it would be able to give them a better idea of who this guy
Was however detectives don’t get far before they receive urgent information from the 911 dispatch Center a few hours after the shooting a 911 call was made to law enforcement that provides the biggest break in the case 911 what is your emergency the woman on the other end
Said that her ex-husband just shot his girlfriend he said he did it and I said do it what he thr me there he killed I’m not sure if it’s true or not but I’m I’m actually fear for my safety the caller on that other end of that phone was the ex-wife of Richard Miller wife has called 911 claiming he’d confess to shooting his girlfriend Renee Williams and when did he tell you this maybe about half an hour ago in person yes according to Richard’s ex-wife he’d shown up at her house just as she was leaving to go to the store I see him par
Behind my car and then I asked him I said what’s your problem the ex-wife is confused on why he’s acting the way he’s acting he’s a little erratic he’s a little odd acting what’s wrong with you he looks disheveled he looks upset and he says something to her are you ready ready for
This that’s when he confessed I did he said he did it and I said did what he told me that he killed her I don’t know what was going through that ex-wife’s mind I would be scared I asked him why would he come tell me why come tell me I don’t need to
Know that information that wasn’t from him to come tell me then he told me that he was going to harm himself cuz I killed myself next okay just calm down okay she was extremely worried and not just about Richard if he’s willing to harm himself is he also willing to harm her as

In the Navy um therefore that led to his drinking he was having difficulty with his Navy career because of his alcohol abuse problems he was arrested for DUI and been temporarily reassigned at n Jacksonville why we received counseling he was still in full active duty however
The Navy had extended him what we call in the silient world uh EAP employee assistance program where they allow persons to have issues going on be it mental uh physical or emotional they can get help he was worried about getting out of the Navy with an honorable
Discharge and he was going through stuff trying to make sure he could leave honorably yolinda tells detectives that alonso’s drinking hadn’t just caused him problems at work she had stated that he was somewhat abusive verbally sweetie are you okay what do you think think going to be okay do you know
How hard I work for this this house and they think they’re going to take it away he uh wasn’t a drunken rage and just the emotional aspect of that it was ramping up that was one of the biggest reasons they separated and he began living in
The in the hotel it was felt that it would be best that he moved out of the home and attend alcohol rehab yolinda says she rented this hotel room for him until he could pull it together his Navy pay was going directly to miss Doss and so she kind of
Controlled the money she managed the bank accounts and then she would give out money to him as needed of course yolinda was certainly supportive of the alcohol abuse Rehabilitation and uh continue to be as supportive as you could according to yolinda things had actually started to improve especially
After Alonso got good news from the Navy since he had been going through the treatment program the Navy decided that he would receive an honorable discharge which was scheduled to happen within days it really seemed like he was getting better but yolinda says she had a bad
Feeling when she got a call from the rehab center Tuesday afternoon people had called and saying he hadn’t shown up she said that she had been trying to reach him and hadn’t been able to to contact him she left messages but he didn’t return her calls yolinda says she

But no noticeable laptop and there was no cash in his wallet the first thought is well maybe somebody has gone into the room and committed a burglary there’s just one problem with that theory there was no signs of force entry Commander dos had to let the person into the room
Or somehow the person con their way into the room canvasing the hotel detectives find a maid who may provide their first lead in the case she had seen our victim with what she believed to be a prostitute about a month prior to this incident could you describe her um she
Was skinny she had long hair was there anything else as a matter of fact there was a guy that was sitting in a parking lot he would drop her off some sometimes that piece of information from the housekeeper was vly important detectives Wonder could he have been the prostitute’s protection in case
Something went wrong we knew there might be more of the story as far as who would have you know had their hand in killing Him it’s been 24 hours since Commander Alfonso Doss was pronounced dead in his hotel room while detectives haven’t ruled out the idea of a suicide they can’t ignore the signs that there was someone else in the room on the night of his death the room looked rack drawers
From both nights F and the dresser were all pulled out cleaning staff she had seen the victim approximately a month prior uh to this incident with what she believed was a prostitute the hotel maid also mentioned the prostitute was always accompanied by a man possibly her Pimp hoping to identify the pair detectives pull the hotel’s security footage there was video surveillance from the hotel that covered the lobby and the entrance to the parking lot we’re viewing the footage detectives discover that the alleged prostitute had been to the hotel on Monday night less
Than 36 hours before yinda found Alonso dead in his room however there were no cameras covering alonso’s room so detectives had no idea if that was where they went when detectives receive the results of alonso’s autopsy finding the pair becomes an even greater priority he had a fractured hyoid bone in his throat
And basically that is very indicative of manual strangulation the autopsy report confirms their suspicions that this is a homicide Mr DS was uh in good shaped about 6 feet tall and a Navy man so very capable of defending himself he was attacked by somebody who was more
Powerful than him and right now the only person on their radar who could have done that was the man that the hotel made described waiting outside while a prostitute visited Commander doss’s room according to the report Alonso died on Monday the 10th the same day Hotel cameras caught the prostitute visiting
The hotel they couldn’t specify the exact time during that day um but they believed it was the 10th detectives thought that Alfonso might have had a date with that prostitute and if he had been drinking and became abusive her Handler might have intervened as the searched for the Pro

Time to time the woman is 31-year-old Ramona Sykes we identified that she had called his phone several times proceeding his death so of course having that information we had to track her down into talked her in person that day detectives bring Ramona in for questioning misses we have a few
Questions about Alfonso Doss no she denied knowing kander Doss so they continue to talk to her and the oppressor Miss Sykes don’t lie to us we have your phone records Ramona Sykes uh was reluctant to speak with us because she was a little bit um leery of police

To find a pickup truck that pulls near the hotel room of the victim and we can see two individuals exit the vehicle and walk over towards the victim’s room the distance is too great to make out much detail you couldn’t make out individual characteristics but um what stuck out to
Us about uh the two individuals is one appears to be much much larger than the other one and we can see that those two individuals Ed key cards and access that room about half hour later Commander do comes in you can see him on camera uh entering the hotel room and then the

Appears to be footage of his Killers entering his hotel room looking at the surveillance video they see this truck com up with two men inside and now they want to know who these two men are the footage is too far away for detectives to be able to make a positive ID but one

Video surveillance but when detectives asked Ronnie what kind of car he drove he denied owning a car at all all but convinced Anthony and Ronnie are the two men in the surveillance video detectives contact Anthony’s parents about his Alibi the day of the the homicide uh Anthony Washington had
Stated that he was at his parents house so we wanted to verify that with them they didn’t remember for sure however that’s not the the only thing his parents tell detectives the family confirms that he does that truck that he drives from time to time they on and off allowed Anthony
Washington to use the pickup truck for hauling things for Yola’s company and uh in fact when we reviewed the video surveillance uh this description of this truck matched with the vehicle that we saw detectives believe that they found alonso’s killers they just needed to prove it both of them claimed that they
Were actually at a gym working out about the time the occurred detectives pulled the men’s phone records to compare against their Alibi so we were able to look at those records and establish that that really uh was not true their phone records indicated that they were near
The hotel detectives decide it’s time to apply a little pressure they go back to Anthony after they looked into his phone records we watched if you were the last people to see him on this Earth still alive and you got a lot of explaining to do once
