Familiar with everybody uh we realize that you guys have your names underneath but uh at the end of the podcast of course we’ll offer the opportunity to share your organization’s website uh so that they can connect with you as well so I’ll start at the top soroy luxurous
Luxurious Lu yes yeah go ahead and go first and then we’ll move on okay hello my name is Dr Antoinette Oliver AKA Sora luxurious and I am the co-founder of alpha P Delta sority Incorporated and it is a pleasure to be here thank you for the invite absolutely go
Ahead I’m cynthy Madar BR R Bri or AKA Grandpa founder of gammaa Ro attorney Incorporated I appreciate and I thank you all for the invite absolutely hello greetings my name is Brody Brady I’m the national vice president for new F Fraternity Incorporated um it’s a pleasure to be on
This panel tonight and I thank you than you guys for the invite Matt go ahead hello everybody um frat magnificent also known as Joy Morgan I’m one of the honorary founders of afam Fraternity Incorporated and uh summer 2006 got a shout Out all right I guess I’m last uh my name uny uh frat Undisputed I am one of the honorary founders of alpha lambaz Fraternity Incorporated I’ve been in the organization since 2006 and thank you for the opportunity absolutely thank you okay so um again let’s just kind of catch
Everybody up uh Joy if you want to kind of give a a short synopsis of what tonight’s show is and what we hope to achieve uh and then we’ll go on to there for to the next to the first question absolutely so and that is our frat app
Salute by the way so this is this the topic is we speak Greek I think it’s very important that we establish and and and put in into the viewers eyesight that there is a legitimate lgbtqia plus Greek community that we exist we’re healthy and there’s a space
For everyone all of our panelists and there’s more we had other panelists that you know were not able to make it things like that because what we would like to do is to show that there’s representation of for there’s somewhere for everybody to go and we have a good
Representation on our P um platform tonight of these organizations and that is what we’re bringing to you tonight we speak Greek we’re going to talk about uh the impact that we make in the community we’re going to talk about our own individual spaces we’re going to talk
About the pros and the cons the good and the bad we’re going to talk about our experiences with D9 and some of them are great and some of them may not be great because we want you to know that there’s a place for you if you’re seeking Greek
So that is our energy and that’s where we’re going at how does that sound that was perfect that perfect so the first question I’m going to ask you guys and and you’re welcome to answer freely I mean if you want to just you know chime
In or whatever just I would ask that you just be respectful of someone else is speaking um the first question I have is how can the lgbtqia Greek organizations um actively Foster a sense of inclusion and belonging within the communities to ensure that the members uh remain diverse from different
Backgrounds uh and that they feel valued and represented well [Laughter] that’s um yeah I could kind of break it down a little bit so you know your first part of your question is how do you make sure um that your are and correct me if I’m wrong but you said
Embrace um so I think one of the things that you know um is pretty impactful just being uh being present you know see see who you are and and also be you know in those spaces as well um I think that a lot negative um stereotypes or NE
Negative P perceptions of people us and um simply by exist showing um in space all different not just spaces with that look like us right but all different spes um we can show that you know the perceptions May unbiased based in reality so I think
That’s the thing um and then as far as making M feel included um you know in the organization uh you know I always I always start always look at you know first who are you bringing in the organization and are they going to make people included um you know that’s the
First thing is you know uh catch it at the make sure you’re bringing in people that are type of people want in your organization and that are going to build culture that you want so um you know that’s that’s my two cents you know um but I think that’s that’s a good
Question and that’s something that you know as as organization lives live on and on you see how important it is to um have those you know things at the top of Mind especially when you people from all different typ of backgrounds um and um experiences so um I believe that um we
Also we have to stay true to our mission we definitely want to be um diverse and have um diverse backgrounds but we have to always stay true to our mission but in doing so we can collaborate with other organizations that have different missions or don’t look like us so we can
Amplify the impact of our common goals so um in doing so we can host workshops together have joint events educate the community about all of our differences and our similarities as well and that would um show our commitment to inclusivity okay great responses also in just listening and
Just thinking back over just my personal experiences and what I’ve seen um I had to learn to listen and listen to learn I had to learn to hear so that I can listen and also have to ask questions and a lot of times people are afraid to ask the
Simplest questions because of the fear somebody saying oh you don’t know that no I don’t know that that’s why I asked you know um it it’s about remaining teachable and also those that we encounter or those that cross those Burning Sands into our organizations sometimes we have people that come to us
That’s already broken and and that’s why it’s very very important that you get to know them individually and collectively not just for some numbers it’s about family I thought you know so it it’s about the mission just like you said it’s about implementing that Mission Vision and that purpose along with letting them
Know they have a purpose and a voice because what happens is like I say from what I’ve experienced over the years is that the introduction say well you have a voice but once you get over here behind that door so are are are all organizations living their Mission Vision their
Purpose right good question so I wanna oh go ahead go ahead no no no you go ahead because I’mma bring in a different perspective in a few seconds gotta I wanna uh piggy back on for some of the things everybody else has said um diversity I feel like especially inside
Uh my organiz ation um kind of sits with our mission our mission is we’re accepting any male um anybody that presents as a male into the organization of a fraternity um with us so that’s whether it’s transgender men um CIS gendermen um anybody so diversity is like a huge
Thing that we kind of uh pride ourselves about um I feel like sometimes gets harder when it comes to it but um that’s not a task that is easy or something that we’re willing to run away or stray from um we kind of work with anybody like you said if it’s something that
Doesn’t uh embody into our mission or what we um we kind of go after we kind of go into a sense of us partnering with these uh other people and other organizations and um things that we don’t normally do or couldn’t do ourselves we kind of stand out inside
That piece of like helping out in other places so um diversity is humongous within I feel like my organization but I feel like should be included within everybody’s re of um living basically so all right so let’s let’s get to a issue and we’re gonna and if
You want to chime in on that issue let’s chime in on one of the issue what I feel that everybody is on we we deal with that what is it mil’s hierarchy of needs everybody need the senstive to belong so with that being said when we every yes
We establish our organizations with the missions and with the goals and with the understanding and diversity that’s all well and good but one thing that we find that we have a lot of repeat offenders and when you having is a lot of repeating re repeat offenders because what they’re doing is duplicating
Organizations which starts to stretch then where the truth lies where where is a there is a real Mission there is a real goal there is a real so now you have all of these because they got hurt at this organization now I’m just using that as an example they no longer wine
Black and pearl but they readed white and onx you still trying to mimic a situation so now that we’re dealing with that how are because that is an issue that we have we are our organizations that are represented here and this is no um outlook on anybody else organization
We only talk about the people here we’ve been in the game for a while so in the beginning we were there in the beginning where when we was on the Regal what the Regal Greek Network what is it rainbow Greek Network when we was all small and
You didn’t have that many options to where the mission was primary diversity was good it was only so many but then now there’s so many so it’s almost like it’s it’s so thin you can’t figure out who’s what this person was in one or day
They and four other ones by the end of the month so in that type of situation how do we navigate that and still uphold our mission our diversity without these without the duplicate offenders of or hopping and they’re bringing the same energy because like grandpa said you
Want to be able to get to know them you want to be able to invite them home that’s what Alphas believe we want you home so then therefore we have to limit ourselves in who we can accept home so who wants to jump in on that one there go my frat there she
Go um in in in in the easiest way possible we mind our business like I can’t I can’t control what other organizations do I can’t control what individuals do but as members of afham De Zeta we believe that we’re the first and only choice I mean you have to you have to
Set boundaries like that right um you take your time you research the organizations that you want to be be a part of you identify if those individuals align with your vision with your purpose with your mission with your values um and if that organization aligns then you seek to be a part of
That organization if you’re in an organization and things don’t go as you perceived them to be how you wanted them to be then you be the change that you wish to see like it’s not about oh this didn’t go my way so I’m going to leave um you don’t do that with relationships
At least I hope you don’t you want to you want to try and work it out right so um an organization is the same thing it’s a it’s a body of individuals who have formed relationships and you have to work it out um when when individuals org hop and
And and and bring all that energy that doesn’t concern me because that’s not what we accept within our organization so that’s why I say the easiest thing that we can do is just mind our business we don’t let it affect us if people will mimic you like that’s it’s flattery
Right if it passes a certain boundary because we’re talking about boundaries again if it passes a certain boundary then you handle it accordingly if you went legal action or something like that because somebody has gone past the boundary of mimicking and they have now recreated something that belongs to you
That you worked hard for then you handle it professionally but outside of that we mind our business thank you I feel like when it comes to um comes to a relationship between an organization as two different forms there’s a personal and then there’s a business form um my connection
To you my brother this person that person is all uh all personal so when it comes to a personal aspect of um dealing with the situation of course like you know personally my feelings might be a little hurt personally you know I’m might be a little bothered that you
Decided to leave the organization but in a business standpoint I understand and if it doesn’t align with your health if it doesn’t align with who you are what you want to be when you want to be and how you want to be I I’m I’m still gonna
Love you regardless you know so when people do organization hop although um I’m not honestly for it um I can’t be against it either because at the end of the day I’m all about doing whatever is best for your health um and doing whatever is best for you um I actually
Talked to my founder not too long ago and he told me that you know when he first started the organization it used to bother him when people left the organization because it’s like I put my Blood Sweat and Tears into this organization for everybody to come in
And be to to be inclusive and to be liked and loved and people are leaving the organization and it’s like am I mad on a personal standpoint or am I mad on a business standpoint business wise like you know the business still has to go on whether you’re here or not personally
You know my feelings are going to be hurt but I have to learn how to separate those two because at the end of the day whether I put my personal feelings and my business feelings in there you’re gonna leave or stay whether I want you
There or not like you know so um I guess in a sense with that is like putting those two into separation the mimic part like she uh like um uh magnificent said uh hey let’s let’s go to let’s go to let’s call the police let’s go let’s go to court because we
Need we need a piece we need a piece of the pention because you biting off us now we need piece of that so um that’s that’s how that’s how I see those two situations all good points good points um so I have a personal question actually that uh will probably be a
Great segue here uh each one of us if you don’t mind share or explain why it is that you just decided or sought a Greek organization sure I can go go so at the time in my life when um I started my organization I was ready to present my
True authentic self and at that particular time um Dy organizations were not as accepting as they are right now so um I wanted to form something with people with like-minded miss you know like-minded goals and things of that nature that look like me act like me and
We could do something on a bigger picture than what I was able to do just as a single person so that’s the reason why um my um LS and I decided to start Alpha PID Delta sority Incorporated which is one of the greatest decisions that um I’ve actually made in my
Life great thank you okay um well for me no names mentioned um I’m sorry prior to gamma R up I was in an organization that I ran across the rainbow GRE Network and I was amazed like oh my God they have one right here in Los
Angeles years ago I was willing to go back to school just to be a Delta right and my godmother was a Delta she said are you going to compromise who you are I’m like meaning she say wear dresses and heels I’m like I’m good same thing with the Easter Stars I’m
Good you know and um I was excited about there there’s people like me and they have something for us my first experience was not the greatest experience and I was done and I wanted to be just a consultant to tell people in the rainbow greet Network do your research something I didn’t
Do something I didn’t do and if you ever go on our website and look at our boy story gammaa Ro started off with four Founders I’m the last one what I will never do is change the boy story because that tells who got and when it was bought to me I’m
Like plus I was afraid because I had to tell my wife cuz she knew my experience prior I’m not shame I’ll tell you you know and um gamma rad was for have we had our challenges yeah have my feelings been hurt yes have I have I got in fetal position and
Cry yep did I have an understanding then no I do today what I had to learn from that first experience to this experience and what I see every day I have to accept people for who they are and never for who I want them to be I can’t afford to have expectations
On somebody because for me three things people will die flee and disappoint me and it doesn’t necessarily mean the physical death it’s the mental the emotional and the social so I encourage people to do their research I love gammaa Ro I’ll be here to the wheels for you know
Um you guys may mention if people or happen Gamma Road changed some things two years ago go we open our doors to the trans men it was personal because I had a member that was going through transition and they wouldn’t have went through transition they would have stayed captivated where they didn’t want
To be just to be with gamma Zeto and we love them enough to change that mission and our purpose to accept and to learn about the trans community so we’re we’ve opened our doors and our minds and our hearts you know because we were taught by one of our
Own and there’s organizations out there that were that are still like what we were just for the masculine lesbian woman in some in some areas that they they don’t accept trans my question is if you had members that decid to go trans to a trans male how would you feel about
Them seeking out gammaa room if we all love each other good question good question we we will table that question and and some of us one of us will answer that but I want to get to Brody so he can uh explain his experience and why he chose to seek out
A Greek organization go ahead Brody um so originally it was like the spur of the moment one of my friends had hit me up and he was like do you want to join newa and I’m like newa what is that um I did my research um I seen that my
Founder uh uh my Founders were so young when they started the organization and the the drive that they have the motivation that they have how captivating just like even hearing one of them talk um and that showed me that I wanted to be led by someone that was
That was leading people that were way older than they were like you know when Brandon and jamarco are the organization they were in their teens like they were teenagers and they were leading people in their 30s and 40s and like you know these people are respecting them you
Know so in a sense I was like not only do I want to be like that um but I want to be under someone that that’s like that like you know so that was kind of like you know where I stood at with like joining the organization after I kind of
Like got a little bit more information and what’s keeping me is the same thing that’s wonderful mag you want to go ahead and then we’ll double back around to you uh deer after uny speaks go ahead M um sure I’ll go um so um kind of like
Um grandpa there I came from I came from a family of deltas and I think the expectation was that you know you’re in college and you’re going to kind of carry on the family name and and um you know while I was in college I interacted
With the Deltas and the akas and you know everybody was nice everybody was cool but they didn’t look like me they didn’t uh resonate with me um and and like grandpa I wasn’t willing to uh compromise who and let’s say who I thought I was at the time because I was
Still exploring and growing and learning about who I was um but I knew that that wasn’t me and that wasn’t who I wanted to to pretend to be um so fast forward a couple of years later and I found out by sheer accident um about LGBT Greek Orcs
And I said oh that’s interesting that that sounds like me you know I’m now identifying under this umbrella as a lesbian um and I identified as a masculine lesbian uh but I only knew of one organization so you know I engaged with them I learned a lot I met a lot of
People um just so happened that an individual uh this was a mixed organization uh so an individual came to me and was just like you know here here’s my vision this is what I want to create for people that look like you and me um and it was
So it was so inspiring I’ll use that word it was it was inspiring and I could visualize what she was saying I could see this happening and I said I want to be a part of this I want to be on the ground floor of something that I just
Knew was going to be uh amazing it was going to be a turning point for a lot of people that looked like me thought like me um people that needed a place to to fit in and so for me um that’s kind of how my Greek life was born it’s just I
Met somebody the universe put somebody in my path and at the time our visions and and uh values aligned and and out of that I Z was born beautiful I’ll guess I guess I’ll go I’ll piggy piggy back off my HF um so I also joined Alpha L Zeta um in
2006 I would say at the time I was in search for of a of a community in search of connecting um my experience in the past was that um you know I existed in two I guess Social Circles one was um you know like my my friends that weren’t all you know
LGBT you know and being around them I could be um you know I I can be who I am but I couldn’t talk too much about being LGBT and then being around my LGBT folks which that happened to be it wasn’t a very diverse group um but they really
Didn’t ex you know didn’t resonate with you know my where my family comes from my ancestry my cultural heritage so you know when I found Alpha Lambda Zeta I found all of that you know I found being accepted exactly who I am I didn’t have
To um put on a mask in any in any way um and you know that was important to me at that you know at that time and it it’s still is um so you know once I once I met um found Alpha Lambda Zeta um and
Saw what type of people was were in it um it was it was people that made me feel like I I needed to um reach uh reach higher um to go further um to um be more open um be more of myself um and be be um strong in that be confident in
That um I pretty much you know got on board real quick um and um well not real quick uh but I knew that it was it was the place for me and so um since then it’s been you know one of the only areas in my life where I can come and know
That I’mma Be I can be me 100% still but it it’s also encourage me in other places to not exist in silos but to be myself 100% no matter where I go you know um so um that’s that’s essentially you know why why I’m a member now why why I continue
To um serve in alpal lamda Zeta year after year going on well we hit 18 years now um and that’s why I don’t plan on going anywhere else great I don’t I don’t have no mushy story I was in Atlanta whing out living my best life being gay and free and I
Don’t know how I stumbled upon it to be honest with you it was like in 2008 I think I was out there just you know being my gay self and I think I I I don’t even remember how it happened I just know it happened and I know that
Sound kind of crazy right and I met with icy icy actually introduced me to the organ and look at that both of us sevens see you see how that worked out and she introduced me into the organization and when I I actually was an interest well interested member in a
Newly formed organization that was not Greek they went a different path and basically they were just you know got tired of their Greek organization so they started their own and we met through just like a Channel of gay people that’s pretty much how it was like a Craiglist for gay people and they
Were really fun and people to hang out with but in our meeting I got my email from um um the Southeast region and I told him I said hey I gotta go I’ve been waiting on them to call me back for a minute and I asked him I said
Can I do both of them they said oh no we don’t want you to do both I said well that’s cool I’m going with them because that’s where I want to go at and I started hanging around and I didn’t necessarily have to be accepted I’ve
Never had to be accepted by anybody but I fit and it felt good because it was other organizations that had reached out on the rainbow Greek Network and it was very hard and if anybody know me I do clutch a pearl every now again and they
They thought they was you know hard and I couldn’t get with that you know because I might want to wear uh a a a big bow on my shoulder with a big broch and a clutch bag and some wing tips and my Frets don’t they expect that from me
They don’t look at me as if I supposed to be something different and that’s what made me say this is my home they never made me feel that me being different I didn’t have to be masculine presenting even though I am I accept that part but I’m I can come any way I
Want and they expect that to be a part of me and that is what caught my attention that is what kept me there and like my FR say and and we’re going to continue to be there we’re 18 years in we’re about to be 14 years in
Yeah this year make 14 years in and I wouldn’t never change my decision regardless on the UPS the Downs everything that came I would have never changed my my my decision to join Alpha Lambda Zeta when that invitation was given because I’ve never felt safe enough to be
Me and that’s it it was that was it for me and that’s it I I don’t even know what else to add what about you absolute uh you know what that was great I I I hate I have to follow that but I’m going
To do the best I can right so I I I have to say for my for me I had gone to college you know and I think uh the first college I went to was a private college so we didn’t have uh any organizations whether sororities or
Fraternities uh so I didn’t have that experience or exposure early on right I knew that maybe that was the direction I wanted to go in at some point but it did not exist for me um so years later I I go to some other School some other colleges and it’s
Still no opportunity presented itself and so I’m adulting now right or at that at that time and I had you know lived in several different states and saw some things online but never could really match uh or connect with someone that was similar to myself uh in order to be
Exposed to the LGBT world or to to the Greek world uh and then I think somewhere online maybe fa maybe uh Instagram I was able to connect with the alpha lamida uh fraternity page and just submitted an interest in that or an interest form in that way and then that
Started the journey but I I knew that at that moment I I guess I kind of wied it to myself because I knew I needed to change some things in my little Pond or my little circle that I wasn’t necessarily challenging myself I wasn’t there was more in me that I wasn’t able
To tap into and fortunately enough for me and it’s been such a pleasure and such an amazing journey just since um what 2020 uh I think it was February uh to have been uh crossed to have crossed the Sands uh with myself and my LS and the journey that we’ve
Been on we’ve stretched ourselves so far past what either of us could ever have imagined uh our life would look like and I’m just thankful for that so uh real talk yeah I that yeah that is absolutely my journey so um go ahead we have a we
Had a comment in here they um actually it’s our frat reformulate she said it draws you in and holds you up and that’s important because I might forget our government names all the time but you know your frat we we say frat all day
But it’s a way you say frat you know who we was talking to and we have that camaraderie we have that love for each other and we can debate on an issue and do whatever but nothing’s going to change that relationship and that love and it has stood true throughout the
Time and and you can’t you can’t trade that for nothing in the world I mean granted I know we have the best organization out there I’m just I can’t help but say it but you know it is what it is what we do that’s true that’s true
But I don’t I don’t want to get too far away from the question that grandpa asked and I want to be able to answer that uh respectfully right so the question again was if a person that is transitioning from female to male uh perhaps maybe left our organization or
Some other masculine cented uh organization and decided to join uh Grandpa’s organization so would we be upset is that what I have what what the question was okay so my personal opinion and I’ll leave it to to others to to answer as they need to uh
I feel like there’s enough space for us to be able to figure out how to do that that’s my personal opinion um I feel like uh where I am in my journey now and how comfortable I am within myself and how authentic I live my life wasn’t
Always like this and it didn’t always look like that so my journey in this process um belongs to me and no one else gets to decide how I need to do that if I’m a part of organization and I love that organization and for whatever reason I feel like I’m going through
Another change I would at the very least hope that that organization would want to support me in that especially if they call me their sister I’m still your sister I just may go by a different name I may ask you to respect me as something different than what we’re
Familiar to that’s my opinion grandpa so would I be upset absolutely not I feel like at some point and in in some form we can figure out how we can still remain family you’re still my family member I’m just going to refer to you as something
Different so if I could and I want because let’s be honest we’ve experienced this in the past uh some of our fraternal members left because of that the hurtful part about it is they didn’t mention it to us to have that conversation they took it and this is from experience
They took it upon to say I’m just not going to be aced let me go find where I can be accepted they didn’t give us the opportunity so that caused some issu does it change our relationship absolutely I’m gonna hug you love on you I’m going to respect your decision but
Did the decision have to come a pass it probably didn’t if you would have just had that conversation with us now in reference to Grandpa’s organization you have a trusted organization and if we had a trans uh sibling that wanted to transition and they no longer felt
Comfortable with Alpha Lam Zeta what I recommend absolutely because we’re still going to celebrate you we’re going to be there when you cross because we want to give you that space and we trust you that you’re going to be in a good space but in the past I feel and I definitely
Want my HS to comment on that on this because because of course they’ve been there longer than us we wasn’t given the opportunity to have that discussion in the beginning it was more of a reactive conversation than it was a proactive conversation understood I if I can hop in um you know
I I think anytime somebody is um becoming somebody uh are evolving you know into something different or or or transitioning it’s a very difficult thing you know it’s a very um it’s something that um you know I know that I’ve never had to go through uh but I know that one of the
What I one of the things that um that is needed for them um is to have a space is to have a space where they could go where they can feel understood or they can relate um you know Alpha Lambda Zeta like like APD is a a lesbian
Organization um and that’s you know that’s you know like that’s what we’ve been founded on um H however we always you know we believe wants a frat always a frat um and you know we would never um you know say somebody needs to leave because they you know because they are
Transitioning or anything like that you know that’s personal you know you we not we’re not going to we’re not going to say okay you you know you’re not part of our family anymore because you know uh or you can’t be part of alz but at the
Same time um we were founded on our founding principles um of who we are um and I believe that there’s a space for lesbians um and that there needs to be a space for lesbians um and um that doesn’t mean that you know I’m I I I um
Feel like there doesn’t need to be a space for for you know anybody that’s transitioning or not cons you know don’t consider themselves that um like I said I think there needs to be a space for everybody because you know I know that my my attraction to this organization
Was that I could see myself in the people that were there and I know that you know the people that um I know that that’s important so you know um I think it’s it’s a touchy it’s it’s very touchy right um because it is person it is a
Personal thing and it’s a business thing too um but you know in order for the reason why we are still here over the 18 years is because we’ve kept our foundation strong because there I mean there’s been many test that have um to our organization where it was being
Pulled in One Direction or not away from those foundations and we’ve been able to keep that strong so um you know I um I believe that um you know we there is a opportunity for us to make sure that everybody feels included everybody has a space um and you know if that includes
Working together you know to do that and um putting you know having making sure there’s spaces for that you know we’re all I’m all in great does anyone else want to comment before we go on to our next question okay all right so I’ve got another
Question and then uh uh Joy if you want to chime in and ask something um how can either of our organization uh be more inclusive or Advance any social or political uh issues uh that need to be addressed within our community how can we do that that’s for anyone I feel like
Visibility is um is the main goal like once someone sees you they know uh what you’re doing within the community um how you operate I feel like anybody will be willing to follow someone that’s gonna do the good news or the good work inside the uh inside the community so I feel
Like visibility is like the main thing and then also having a plan a structured plan to put in place so that when it does come to uh LGBT rights or you know or us having the freedom of speech and Blas Blas with the whole like marriage thing where they’re kind of cutting off
Marriage inside certain States and places like I feel like once that visibility or that person has some notoriety um it kind of speaks for themselves and at that point it’s like a flock is going to follow and people are going to be able to not only see you but
They’re going to hear you as well yeah I think um that’s a very uh good question actually and I think that we first have to be greater advocates for ourselves of ourselves and so we have to get out and vote we have to start membership drives for those who are not registered voters
If there are petitions that are out there we need to sign them because they affect our community um we need to pay attention to laws that are affecting us we just can’t go through life not paying attention to it because there are some heavy things that are going on right now
That affect us in a very deep way and um I know we talked about um diversity and other organizations but we need to come together so we can accomplish more if we come together we can you know do bigger things there may be some things that we
Don’t know that another org knows that we can share but we just um the bottom line is we just have to be greater Advocates of ourselves um you know go ahead Grandpa what I want to say because what you just said just made me realize something just in my own Community I
Mean I’m open I walk in my own brand and dignity um I’m respect it but when you talked about the ballots or getting out there and being a part of that I’ve I’ve seen all type of ballots within the community but never one for the LGBT community within the community
That I live and I serve they’ll have you know for the local you know the local Council or the state or whatever basically let’s say Los Angeles County they have everything I can go to certain markets certain areas you’ll see the same petitions and I have yet to see
One that have anything for us so what it tells me is that I have to reach out so that I can get involved to have those voter petitions within my community because there’s not just Greeks but just lgbtt Community is all through Los Angeles Compton Watts you name it and
I’m so sure there are people that would get out there in different areas just to get them signed you know and and presentation has a whole lot to do with it it’s not just saying that the for the LGBT community but for the community that we live that
We serve because we as Greeks when we have our fundraisers and our giveaways we don’t just single out the LGBT it’s for everybody so if you can take from us support us right and I’m you know being a senior citizen I’m G cut off my
Mic you know so um I’m 100% on board with that but I love to another step there are empty spaces there’s empty seats in City Council in your ward in your area there’s empty seats for mayor take it a step further be that voice for us in the community it’s actually a
Facebook um person that I’m associated with we we’ve never spoken but i’ I’ve I’ve followed them and they follow me I think it’s AJ star or something I think that’s their name she I hope that’s their pronoun but I’m going say they she heard they they ran for office and actually
Won now what level of office I didn’t go that far because I couldn’t vote that’s not my area what I’m saying is they understood where the need was and they went to that need we have to get involved to the point where they hear us because what they don’t realize is the
The diverse representation that we have we are because okay majority of us is africanamerican we are the economic driving force LGBT communities alone are economic driving forces so we have both of those right now women men we have so many communities that we represent veterans mothers you name it we
Represent it we have enough power to step into those spaces and make our petitions heard we don’t never take it that far we stay home we talk about it we say we’re actively involved but we don’t put enough muscle into it to where it’s making a change that’s my problem
With it but something that my SI said about being unified coming together working together and this is where my question is and I’m pretty sure some of y’all know where I’m going why we don’t have a Greek councel not to oversee an organization but to establish some type of standard that these younger
Organizations need to see that rent that that that shows success that shows longevity that shows Unity that shows where we can come together and we can say we need to Advocate if there’s a killing of one of our trans sisters or our trans Brothers we can call this Council and and employ these
Organizations and let’s get out out there and see what’s going on it should not be left up to Delta Sigma Theta shout out to them because I absolutely love them my LS is all that good but it shouldn’t be to them we should be actively involved because we do have
Numbers we may not be a 100 years in but we do have the numbers to the join forces to go fight for the cause so I’m asking us our senior and seasoned individuals that’s in the LGBT grep why don’t we have a councel that we can come
Together and just bring that Unity not to rule them but it also will help because I think it was Brody that brought up research it was somebody that brought brought up research because we find that a lot of these young organs don’t do organizations don’t do research
That’s why you get to ceas and this this letter from me because you don’t do your research so with that being said we can help you with that we can say no there is an organization that has those colors maybe you want to review it something we can
Help you we’re not there to do your job but maybe we can help you we can give you some historic facts on how to help you be successful because all of our organizations do have a blueprint of success so question why we don’t have an LGBT Greek counsil take it
Away now that it’s 2024 maybe it’s time for the season the elders to get together together on one Accord with learning to listen and listening to learn and hearing each other’s views on how to make this work because it can work it it can work it’s about being committed to
The commitment of being committed to make it work I totally agree I know that the members of Alpha Delta sority Incorporated are are 100% in agreeance that one is needed and we would be the first in line to assist in any way possible to get it started um to answer
Your question why don’t we have one I believe that we let our personal issues get in front of the greater goal and the greater good and so once we are able to put those personal issues aside and focus on the business and and our the bigger plan as to what this would
Accomplish I think that we can move Forward I agree I feel like it goes back to what I was saying about personal and business I feel like we have to learn to put our personal to the side to accomplish the business goal of what we want to see um I feel like in a sense uh
Controversial wise I feel like um with the younger organizations especially when we say these organizations or these people were built up from other organizations or people leaving from other organizations I feel like that’s maybe where the Riff would come at when it comes to like oh who are they talking
To who are they telling what to do Blas Blas so I feel like that would kind of be a um a a standpoint in it but I feel like it’s accomp I mean it can be accomplished I just feel like everybody has to learn that personal and that
Business standpoint and we have to put business before we put personal because at the end of the day the the council only work for the greater good of everybody instead of just oh well we’re doing this just because we want to be shady I guess you could
Say yeah I would say I I think it’s definitely doable um you know Alpha Lambda Zeta has um you know I think inquired a few times over the years about and possibly been in those uh Communications or those discussions about um an organization um over the years um it just never really went
Anywhere with it um I think there’s a lot of complexities to it like you guys mentioned there is the personal piece um there is a lot of orc hopping between LGBT Orcs lgbtq plus ORS you know and um you know there there is a personal piece
There that you know we can ignore um but then maybe we can if we have a big enough um cause you know to where we can work together and we could see the good that we can all do um in that so um you know I think it’s definitely doable you
Know I think Alpha lamb Zeta I think I could speak for my organization um that we you know we’re definitely on board with that and ready to be part of those you know conversations um so but you know I think there’s a lot of good that can come out
Of it and it’s as long as we keep pushing towards something you know I think something should come come about from it yeah because I know um mag did I cut you off okay because I know um our frat en Throne one of her famous statements we
Wear different colors but we all got the same purpose so that’s fine and again it’s not to tell you what to do but it is a way that we have a connection amongst all of those trusted individuals to be because what is it one can chase a
Thousand but two can put 10,000 to flight and we can bring a community together to do an action we can be out there standing and boycotting and and marching doing whatever we need to do and representing the correct way because we can’t leave our needs up to individual who don’t understand our
Needs we can’t expect a heterosexual individual to know what it feels like to be mean it’s no different so I can go on and on for the differences but so you get what I’m saying is that we can’t expect them to represent us and repres representation matters so if they don’t
Hear the argument from us not the anger the argument we can be mad all day killed my brother they killed my trans they was wrong what do we do about it other than complain we did not get together to show Unity to go out there and show them that
We’re not going to let you get away with this and continue to press and continue to press and continue to press so we failed and we failed because we don’t want to connect within the community and I’m GNA get off my soap box with that because we can do it it’s possible it
May be difficult but it’s possible hey I just want to this real quickly um yeah I think you make a great point about you know if we move in numbers and we can make a big you bigger I do just want to be clear that all lgbtq plus organizations are not the
Same and do not have the same purpose right and there are some that aren’t even that don’t even do care about the community or don’t even do community yeah you’re right social so you know you gotta really if you’re interested in an organization you know really look into
You know why they exist if they align but you know even with us organizations aligning with with each other we got to be clear about okay is this organization are we on the same page you know are we um like they say equally yolked in relationships you know actually work
Together move towards something common goal right just to just to add you know um when you say about equally Yol it is important that that’s why I say remaining teachable in Each one teach one and we have to ask questions and be ready for the answer it’s not about getting upset because
Sometimes we don’t like what we hear but we have to come sometimes just not just just individually and through organizations we have to learn how to have an open mind because what happens is you get a lot of people together somebody coming with a closed mind someone is already coming in with their
Fist tight because they’re ready just to pop off that’s not that’s not the purpose the purpose is coming together talk about Greek Unity or let’s just say Unity within itself if we gonna come together we stay together are we goingon to agree to disagree and disagree to
Agree yes we are but we still must respect each other’s opinion because that’s what they are you know and and and in finding a solution you know I’m thinking all the way back to when I was in the seventh grade trust and believe none of you guys were in in the makings
Of being born let me tell let me say that and and and and and and I went just immediately back to my typing class and we typed this line says now’s the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country I had to type that to learn every kid
But I get to change that and say now is the time for our LGBT Greek organizations to come together to come to to the aid of us so that we can grow along spiritual guidelines so we can reach one another when we reach one another we will reach others yeah it’s
Almost you know it’s like if you pop lock you pop this one you pop that one you just go the domino effect I’m just I’m old school so don’t laugh at it’s okay so I’m just saying you know and it’s simple you know it it’s when I talk to my
Clients and even my members I’m going to always say this 24 hours is a long time depending on what’s going on with you mentally But please understand time takes the same way every day and in the 24hour period I strongly believe it’s only two things you’re going to learn no matter the
Culture no matter the language no matter if they live in a White House or an ous where they have no red bottoms or no bottoms it’s only two things you going to learn from a human being and is simply what to do and what not to do
That’s how simple it is but we have to stop making it complex I agree I agree great words great words I was G say I know my frat she’s the timekeeper I seen it in her eye so I would like to do a round table closeout that’s going to end with our
Fred absolute and my question is how can we support you your organization your efforts so if everybody can speak on that and we’re going to round it out to Fred absolute but how can we support you and your efforts and in your organization my SI gonna go first
Because she’s the lady okay I’ll go first um I believe that you all support us um right now but just as a whole other organizations um whenever we post something or have events just come out and support each other if you see someone has an event on Facebook we can
Share with um our community we can reach more people so just being um inclusive with each other sharing and um word of mouth if you have someone that comes to you that does not fit the mode of your organization to refer them to whatever organization that you see fit but um
Just don’t say that you know we were not for you and just ended at that but there are so many other organizations that you can to that they can find um their space we talk so much today about finding your space so I think that’s important but um
But yeah thank you for what you what um Alpha Landa Zeta is doing we appreciate you and we look forward to our continued partnership with you Absolutely Grandpa I just had a senior moment but um really I did I can’t stand it but overall you know um coming together bringing it together you know keeping it simple learn learning to take out yesterday’s trash you can’t keep bringing it back and forth you cannot keep bringing yesterday’s stuff whatever
Happened let it go right let’s come with an open mind ask questions let’s be teachable learn to listen and listen to learn also if you guys have flyers or whatever send it to me I love clicking the button and sending stuff everywhere you know I’m open to
Work with everybody that’s just me you never know when you’re going to get a phone call from me MH I’m I’m very open you know I’m here I’m not going nowhere unless I get the ultimate phone call from god let’s be clear I’m here um there you go in a sense support
Um I feel like like everybody else said um the events um we post things inside different groups um honestly how can we support y’all we love coming out and joining everybody’s events and doing uh different things um getting us out of our comfort zone most definitely I feel
Like those are um that that’s the best um way of supporting someone in general um our goals right now are to kind of get some more inclusiveness with other CIS male organizations within um a lot of the other things because I feel like we are we we’re the only ones that are
Standing up for side of sense for uh for the uh CIS male organizations to kind of get some more inclusive into coming in so that we have that help or y’all have that help and that support inside the aspect as well so um I guess just just
Supporting us in any way like you said if there’s someone that doesn’t fit your organization’s missions or goals um most definitely uh refer them to to someone else so that maybe they could fit inside theirs and uh go from there but support is always always the uh the mission
Anywhere that we can support you guys and help you guys out we’re more than welcome to be there as well absolutely uny mag how can what do we need and from your perspective that can push us along what what what the same question I will so you know I’m a Tre uh
So I’ll give it to you in threes um communication collaboration and commitment that that’s what I would like to see um I want us to communicate with each other I want us uh to like everybody else has already said like engage and help each other out uh we
Don’t get invited to a lot of stuff right and I don’t know why but we invite everybody to our stuff um and so if you invite us we will be there right uh collaborate let’s partner with each other we’re talking about the Greek Council let’s stop talking about it and
Let’s just do it let’s get together let’s collaborate let’s make things happen and we have to be committed to strengthening everybody’s organization each and everybody not just our own but everybody because we’re all in this together versus tearing them down and I think that is the problem that we’ve
We’ve seen a lot within the the the lgbtqi Greek organizations and even U Divine n is people people aren’t committed to strengthening each other and helping each other um with a common goal everybody wants to to be the chief right it’s like crabs in crabs in a barrel they’re just trying to tear
People down so they can be the next one on the top it’s not about who’s going to come in first it’s not going to be about who’s going to shine the brightest and it’s not going to be about who’s gonna be the tallest none of that matters if
It’s an individual um effort we have to be able to collaborate we have to commit to strengthening everything within our own community and spaces absolutely yeah yeah I don’t have much to say after that after my tray um I definitely think you know she’s on point um collaboration
Communication you know especially um you know I think that there’s so many opportunities for us to collaborate because a lot of us um a lot of a lot of us have similar missions to impacting the communities and a lot of us are have are have projects and things going on
But we don’t really have a central place where we can say Okay APD has this going on this week uh you know or you know or where what each of our organizations are doing unless other than Facebook if you have time to scroll through Facebook all
Day you know but I you know I think that you know being able to communicate and let each other know what’s what we got going on you know um we always looking for stuff to come out too and um you know I know that um you know I’ve um
I’ve hung out with pretty uh I know Brody I haven’t I think I’m just being introduced to you but everybody else I mean we’ve hung out Grandpa called me wish me happy happy Founder’s Day and happy birthday last year stay on the phone so um you
Know I I we are connected whether or not we want to you know believe it or not we are we’ve been connected you know some of us for a really long time you know let’s build on this those relationships and um and do something great you know
