Weekend was just this past weekend but a year ago uh we were uh we had an opportunity to go and pray over at stuffed Wings if you guys are in the city of Houston you know how incredible that restaurant is uh it’s our brother Jared and uh um it’s the directors over
There and they they have made an incredible business took it from a food truck all the way to a brick and mortar and uh we went over there to pray but right the day before we prayed the night before they had gotten robbed and lost thousands of dollars uh the day before
We got there um Jared uh sent a message the other day I think it was yesterday to say that it’s been a full year and God not only has restored them uh from what they’ve lost but he’s he has blessed them even more tremendously uh
Even as they come into the year of 2024 uh and God has just been restoring and Reviving and their business is thriving uh they just did a collaboration with a Houston Staple in Frenchie chicken uh and so God has been doing an amazing work and so that that is all glory to
God but it also is a testimony for those who may have taken a loss in previous years God will and can restore and uh and let me tell you something when you walk into a business that you have given your all to and you’ve lost thousands of dollars because somebody came in and
Robbed you and then God restores you that is worthy of a praise for some of you the enemy may have come into your life and stolen something from you he may have stolen joy peace of mind he may have stolen uh uh uh even strategies from you you may have caused some
Relationships to deteriorate because of uh of bad conversation but do you know that God can restore relationships God can restore your peace of mind God can restore strategies that you may have lost God can restore plans Zeal whatever you feel like you may have lost in these
Last two or three years I believe that in 2024 God can do above and beyond even what you’re lost Hallelujah so I want you this I want you to have expectation in this year that’s the word I want you to have an expectation this year expect
God to do something on your behalf not because you deserve it but because his character is that great the scripture says he’s going to do it for his name’s sake wo Lord have mercy do you realize that you have the same you are you are attached to that name you you bear that
Name because you were born into the family you have been accepted into the Beloved you carry that name and if he does it for his name’s sake and you’re tied to his name that mean he has to do it for you too in Jesus name in Jesus name approach this year with expectation
Approach this year in expectation we about to get into the weeds with these Idols in a minute but before we go on I want to encourage you to restore revive breathe life again not just can these bones live can These Dreams live can these plans live can the strategy live
Can my assignment live I believe it’s all based on your expectation if you think God is done doing great things for you you are out of your mind he has not even scratch the surface of what he’s getting ready to do you are going to have some bumps and bruises you’re going

Getting ready to pray uh today is day 16 as you guys know we are addressing our Idols today even in the idea of expectation expectation can be deterred by idols and we’ll talk about that in just a second uh but it’s very hard hear me it is very hard to drive straight
When you’re distracted by something else with your vision part of the reason why we miss designated exits when we’re driving down the freeway is because we’re looking at our phone the assignment is to drive and make it to the destination the phone becomes a distraction and if the distraction has a
Stronghold then it becomes an idol and when it becomes an idol you will miss valuable predetermined predestined assigned appointed times for you to reach your destination it causes your journey to be longer it causes frustrations to grow in fact sometimes it it could even cause hurt harm and
Danger if you keep your eyes on the idol you’ll miss your destination keep your eyes on the idol you miss your destination so tonight we’re going to talk about Idols we’re going to talk about Idols okay so as we get ready for 2024 we are going to make sure that

8 uh it’s just a one real quick particular scripture it’s so it’s so interesting I can’t wait to to to to dive into the Scripture it seems so weird to use Jonah when we talk about Idols but this particular scripture is so important Jonah 2 verse

Turn away for from God’s love for them I’ll read it again what up T so those who cling to worthless Idols turn away from God’s love for them or in uh uh in the journal it says those who pay regard to Vain Idols forsake their hope of steadfast
Love and I want to I want to I want to I want to I want to come from this idea for for I for when we talk about Idols um as you know every night we haven’t really been going with the obvious uh when it comes to the subject matters but
We’ve been kind of diving more introspectively and it’s interesting that Jonah is saying this because right after Jonah says this uh scripture shows us that he gets spit out of um he gets spit out of this fish he gets vomited out and that means that when he was
Saying all this he was saying this from inside uh of this fish he had been swallowed up and if you guys know the story of Jonah then you already know that he had been running from a thing that God wanted to do God had assigned
Him to go give a word to a people that Jonah did not particularly like and because of that Jonah decided that he was going to go away from the assignment causing him to get swallowed up in this fish and right before he gets he gets spit out he has this Revelation and he
Utilizes the sentence and and and I’m going to read verse seven real quick because it seems disconnected but S8 and N all of it uh kind of lines up together he goes when my life was ebbing away I remembered you Lord and my prayer Rose to you to your Holy Temple those who
Cling to worthless Idols turn away from God’s love for them but I with shouts of grateful praise will sacrifice to you what I have vowed I will make good I will say salvation comes from the Lord what you’re seeing here in this scripture is Jonah finally relinquishing
His uh emotions and his opinion and saying God I’m going to go ahead and do what you’ve called me to do and he utilizes this phrase about worthless idols and it seems disconnected from the idea of saying yes to God but ultimately what uh what Jonah was saying in this
Particular scripture was that I can hold on to an idol all I want to but if I if I hold on to this Idol uh uh I I am I am missing out on an opportunity to experience the love of God now what’s interesting about this is that Jonah in
This particular scripture uh the idol that you would uh that you would assume he’s holding on to is not a physical Idol the idol that he’s holding on to is not even a particular God that he’s saying he believes in he truly believes in God he was sent as a prophet from the
Lord but Jonah was ultimately saying that this Idol he was holding on to this worthless Idol that he was trying to to stay connected to was ultimately his own will it was his will he had made an idol out of his perspective again the theme about all of
This is called what do you see and I want you to I want you to look at this because Jonah’s perspective hear me Jonah’s perspective about the assignment was skewed God had wanted to send him to a place to begin to speak to a people
And he did did not want to speak to the people he didn’t want them to turn he didn’t want them to receive the love of God he did not feel like his enemy deserved God’s love and so he decided he was not going to do it and he held on to
This Idol of opinion and perspective we don’t talk about this often we do talk about Idols like our cell phone we do talk about Idols when it comes down to Netflix or uh some some of us it may be food some of us it may be money it may even be a person
We may idolize a person but have you ever thought about the biggest Idol in your temple is your opinion is your perspective is your will H have you been having a tug of war with God over getting your way I I know I know we’ve talked about
Fear and I know we’ve help thank you Holy Spirit I know we’ve talked about fear I know we’ve talked about you know uh being afraid of the assignment and you know you know you you want to do it but you’re afraid of doing it you don’t feel like you’re adequate enough to do
It and and and all of those excuses are are part of our human nature I get that but I think for some of us it’s not even the matter that it’s an excuse I think what we’re holding on to is our true opinion about the matter so that when
God is calling us to do a thing uh instead of us doing it the reason why we don’t do it is because we feel like our opinion about the matter is more important than God’s will about the matter so really when we’re saying no and we don’t do it it’s not just that
We’re not doing the assignment it’s that we’re going the polar we’re going the complete opposite way of where the assignment is supposed to take us we are refusing to even go in the same direction as the assignment and we’ll use excuses like I’m afraid or we’ll use
Excuses like I don’t have the resources but the truth of the matter is is you just don’t want to do it you don’t like the assignment that’s the truth of the matter the reason you’re not saying yes to God is because you are holding your own opinion and your own will as an
Idol this this this this is ultimately if I can put it in in an Old Testament uh uh theological vernacular uh anytime in the Old Testament anytime that you would see uh uh a rededication of a temple or you would see uh uh uh God uh restoring Israel that happened plenty of
Times where they Israel would get you know in trouble and then God would restore them and they get back in trouble again and God would restore them and there would be this constant issue with Israel where they kept allowing themselves to worship other Idols we saw
It with the golden calf we saw it with other prophets that had to deal with it inside the temple um in fact um uh uh even with like Malachi and uh some of these prophets they they were dealing with Israel who had Idols they had picked up Idols from a foreign land and
What was ending what was happening was is that they would worship God on one end and as soon as God would bless them then after they get settled and comfort comfortable in the blessing then they would find themselves gravitating towards these other idols and part of
The reason why here it is is because God was more of a concept and a voice to them and that these Idols were a tangible thing to them so it was something that they could feel and God was something that they had to hear and so uh what they would what they would
Tend to do is that the the physical Idols couldn’t speak and so because God’s voice would be so pricking to their heart because God’s voice would be so convicting when they heard it when the prophets came they would be terrified of what God was going to say
They turned to Idols that they could feel but they didn’t have to listen to that they didn’t have to listen to it it’s it’s it’s really like it’s really like it’s really like what we have an issue with now and that we will gravit gravitate towards what makes us
Feel good but can can speak no words over us because we’re so tired of hearing the voice of God constantly telling us what we should be doing and we don’t want to do it let me run towards the tangible because what I’m hearing is irritating my will it’s irritating my
Will it’s irritating your will that’s what’s happening your will is being irritated by the voice of God can we be honest can we be honest part of the reason why you don’t like going to Bible study or part of the reason why you don’t like uh convicting messages in church and we all
Have this I’m a I’m a pastor and I still have moments where I don’t like that is because I don’t want to hear the same truth over again I’m tired of hearing the same thing over and over and over again and the truth is is the reason why
I keep hearing it over and over again is because God’s perseverance is stronger than mine so God can literally repeat the same thing over and over and over again and he’ll never get tired but our Will’s will he will wear your will down by speaking the same thing we’re looking
For a new word looking for a new revelation every time we open the scripture we’re trying to find this deep Revelation and God is still staying on the last thing he told you to do so that is why if I’m being honest 2023 might have sounded a lot like 2022 and even
2024 might be sounding a lot like 2023 because God is attacking the idol of your own opinion and will he wants you to do what he says and not what you want I want to show you something um go to 1 Corinthians chapter 12 I want to read something to you 1
Corinthians chapter 12 okay now this is before the gifts of the Spirit but I want to read what what what Paul says 1 Corinthians 12:1 now about the gifts of the spirits brothers and sisters I do not want you to be uninformed you know that when you were
Pagans these are people who did not believe in God somehow or another you were influenced and led astray to mute Idols therefore I want you to know that no one who is speaking by the spirit of God says Jesus be cursed and no one can say Jesus is Lord except by the holy
Spirit this this this idea of mute Idols Paul says somehow some way y’all found a way to listen to Idols that don’t even speak y’all were LED astray so anytime you hear the words LED astray it this is Shepherd talk okay the idea is that these are sheeps these were sheep that
Were being led by a Shepherd but this Shepherd wasn’t speaking interesting how can something that has no voice still have power I’m G say it again how can something with no voice still have power I’m going to help you because where there is an absence of a voice we will insert our
Opinion where there’s an absence of a voice we will insert our opinion so it’s easier for me to follow the Idol because I can fill in what the idol says with what I desire I can make my idol be what I want it it the idol has no power the
Only Power the idol has is my voice in the idol the idol is mute but my opinion is not so I can have a statue that I can pray to about things that I want if I want to get pregnant I can make an idol
I can make an idol this is what they used to back in the day if they wanted fertility to happen they would make a god of fertility and they would make an idol of it a tangible and then they would do whatever they I want my crops
To yield a harvest so I’m going to make a whole God out of it where there is an ABS where there is a mute Idol we will insert our own voice of opinion it’s going to happen every single time can I be honest with you let me make it more
Today and I’m just using I’m utilizing the same examples every time so that we can make it tangible Netflix is telling you to watch the show Netflix in and of itself is a mute Idol Netflix in of itself is a mute Idol but internally we will justify saying
Let me watch one more show let me watch one more episode because that’s what we want we want Netflix to feed us one more thing so instead watch this Netflix is not making us watch the show but our will is connecting with this Idol that is Netflix and so even though we know
We’re supposed to go to sleep or God is calling us to prayer we’ll do one more episode did you hear what I said you’ll give voice to the idol what Burger is not telling you to get into that drive-thru what bger is not saying hey come here come eat here that’s not what
What bger saying that’s not what what Burger saying your internal voice is saying I want that so when I see water a burger I see a physical image of something that connects with an internal voice inside of me and when my voice gets together with that mute Idol great things happen for
Them great things happen great things happen the problem with God is when God calls you into prayer there’s no tangible place that you’re going there there’s no physical thing that you can grab on to this is the problem the the problem is watch this this is how we’ve even made an idle out
Of church this is why people can go to churches that are void of God’s presence because what people ultimately want is to feel good so let me go to a place that is appealing to my opinion of what I want to hear what the scripture says
This a tickling ears so I will go to a physical place and I will make a I will make an idol out of the sanctuary even though God is nowhere in there but because they’re preaching a message about relationships or preaching a message about how I’m going to live my
Best life now or preaching a they’re not preaching Jesus they’re they’re preaching encouraging or inspirational messages that have nothing to do with the gospel but because I don’t really want to hear the conviction of the Cross what I really want to hear is you going to make my Monday better so people will
Even make Idols out of the church church ain’t saying nothing that’s gospel based but it is tickling your ear great children’s church program ain’t giving you no kind of gospel just watching your kids you could have respit for about two hours while you dance and shout and you understand what I’m saying you
Understand what I’m saying what I’m saying is when we’re talking about the idol we’ll mess around and say Netflix is the idol Netflix is mute the food is not the idol the food is mute it ain’t saying nothing it’s not speaking we’re filling in the blanks it is a scientific
Fact that your brain is conditioned to fill in blanks they have this exercise that they do some of you guys have seen this on Instagram or Tik Tok or whatever where there would be a sentence that has sentence but like like there are letters that are missing out of the words but we
Can read the sentence all the way through because our mind fills in the blanks they even have an exercise where they have full words that are missing and you can make up your own paragraph based upon what you put inside of the inside of that sentence you’ll read
Straight through it and just insinuate what should be there so instead of pausing and going I wonder what I wonder what the writer intended I wonder what was supposed to be there our brains are trained to fill in blanks so anytime that we have an idol what what what the
Power of the idol is is really given by our own opinion and will that that gets inserted into the blanks or the mutinus of the idol so even though God is speaking God is not tangible to us but the but the idol is tangible so we fill
In the voice on that side now I have something I can worship because we’re on the same page it’s hard to worship a God that you’re not on the same page with here’s the problem the idol has to bend to your will but in God’s equation
You have to bend to his will and it’s easier for me to make something that will bend to my desires than it is to bend my desires towards the God who gave me life it’s election season it’s election season it’s election season I’m going to be honest with you some of the political

If I can get followers and that’s what drives the algorithm so now they cater videos towards what people want to see so your our opinion builds the power into the idols that we preach against the algorithm then got so good they can tell you what videos you like
Just based upon how long you watch it so if you stay on a video too long they’ll start feeding you those videos because the algorithm is built off of what you desire what you desire then fuels the idol if you want to know how social media really
