A local organization launching a recruitment challenge to try and find mentors for 170 boys and girls around central Georgia. Simone Sole shows us how it’s hoped they can solve the shortage by going Greek. The big brothers, big sisters of the heart of Georgia are looking for mentors
To be big to 175 kids on their waiting list. They’re calling all members of the National Pan Hetic Council or the nine to step up and shake these kids futures. They all deserve to have a mentor in their corner to be able to support and champion them. Big brothers.
Big sisters has some big shoes to fill this special mentor recruitment challenge is for the divine nine members made up of sororities and fraternities to become a big to 175 littles. Betsy Fitzgerald is the president of the big brothers, Big sister heart of Georgia chapter.
She says it really starts with the community coming together and working together to help the kids of those 175 65% are youth of color and this is something very important to us because we want to make sure that we’re exposing them to different people, different lifestyles, different experiences.
Jeffrey Parlor has been a mentor or big for almost 15 years giving them uh inspiration is everything because they don’t get it anywhere else. Jeffrey is from Savannah and graduated from Fort Valley State where he pledged to be a member of Omega sci fi.
He says he’s living his creed, which is service to the community. The kids that he’s mentored have left a special place in his heart and he can recognize what difference he’s making in their lives. Aspiration is everything and what we try to do as fraternities and sororities is be an example of
What you can be of what you can do uh where you can achieve. Jeffrey said, being an example to these kids keeps him going. He’s seen the difference that additional support can make. So he’s reaching out and giving them a right path to walk, to share his passion.
