We have an update Metra says its Ventra app is available again following a service outage yesterday morning during rush hour however Metra does say the app may still be experiencing intermittent errors as you try to purchase tickets Metra still trying to work to fix that problem power is expected to be back on
This morning at the BP plant in Whiting Indiana allowing production to resume dozens of workers were forced to evacuate the plant yesterday afternoon as a safety measure fires typically seen shooting out of the stacks were increased to burn off extra oil during that outage it has been essentially a quiet
Morning rush hour we do have one incident working right now so let’s go to the maps real quick I’ll show you where the problem area is at and it’s kind of glaring look at that big red line right into there the inbound side of the Stevenson stacked solid from past
Harlem into before Ki with a rollover crash past palaski it’s still out there it’s been moved to the shoulder the lanes are open but we have gapers coming outbound and the delay coming inbound as there’re still clearing some debris have a great day drive safe let’s be nice to

Forecast hello and happy Friday to you happy Groundhog Day thank you for joining us I’m Brad Edwards and I’m a Jina Sinclair good to be with you this morning we’ve got lots to get to now to breaking news we’ve learned the widespread Network outage affecting lurry children’s hospital is due to a
Cyber security matter yeah we didn’t know that yesterday this update coming in late last night let’s go right to aruga igu live outside lurry right now where this critical outage is now stretched to a third day there yeah we know this issue started on Wednesday that is when hospital
Employees realized they could not access online records and clearly it has persisted since then I want you to take a look at your screen right now because this is the message that parents get when they are trying to access the online records portal but the issue does
Not end there the network outage is also affecting phone and internet service at the studville hospital as well as phone lines at L’s three other locations we spoke with a staff member who wanted to remain anonymous they tell us the outage has made it difficult to order prescriptions document vaccines
Scheduled procedures and even check test results and while this is not the first time something like this has happened they say it’s the first time it’s been this bad you know we haven’t used paper charts now in over 10 years so when people come in not only do we not
Know what they’re coming in for who’s coming in when they’re supposed to come in we have essentially no information about them um it used to be you know if it went down there was a time where we would have our paper charts stuff we don’t have that anymore and in last night’s statement
Hospital officials also say they took Network systems offline as part of their response to this issue they also say they are working with leading experts and local law enforcement agencies to get the issue fixed as soon as possible and we’ll of course let you know when that happens we’re live in Street Aville
Mugo igu CBS News all right Mugo we hope it’s fixed soon lots of patience information out there thank you so much they need a fix students from s high school and the Edgewater Community honored the students who were shot at an emotional vigil yeah they’re asking for
The gun violence that has been plaguing Chicago public schools to stop as they remembered a student last night recently killed just steps from his school I didn’t go today because I was very scared um this is I think recently the environment has been pretty violent
I don’t really it’s just been a very I don’t really feel safe coming to school and the string of shootings here high schools and now forcing CPD to beef up patrols at schools during just missile this as people in Edgewater community plan to organize and take steps to help
Keep children safe while Chicago Police focus on those investigations a new initiative aims to stop the violence before it starts Community leaders along with mayor Brandon Johnson and Governor JB pritzer gathered yesterday to reveal their five-year strategy the plan is to expand interventions in three Chicago neighborhoods this year and add more
Neighborhoods each year as more money becomes available they want to raise funds through a public private partnership the goal is to help at least half of the 20,000 or so Chicagoans who are at greater risk for gun violence following that press conference Governor pritzer spoke out about the symbolic
Resolution passed by city council this week calling for a ceasefire in go yeah the governor says he’s disappointed adding that resolution doesn’t go far enough to condemn the atrocities of the October 7th attack by Hamas I I don’t think that that resolution will have any actual impact
On foreign policy of the United States or on the hostility is taking place in the Middle East on Wednesday Mayor Johnson cast a tiebreaking vote making Chicago the largest city in the country to pass a ceasefire resolution happening today mayor Brandon Johnson is in Los Angeles to attend the LA police and
Policy Summit it is sponsored by the African-American Mayors Association the mayor will discuss the issues of affordable housing homelessness green Energy Solutions and making City safer they will also look for common ground on how policy makers and cultural leaders can come together to solve the challenges that cities are now facing
Was over 30 years ago that Hollywood turned the historic city of Woodstock Illinois into puon p Pennsylvania for the hit film Groundhog Day that kicked off a new annual tradition in Woodstock using a different Critters Shadow to predict the next six weeks of weather and our Jackie CK joining us now live
From the Town Square where Woodstock Willie will emerge at any moment Jackie they are already up atam ready for this to happen Sunday if you’re here for the weekend Saturday or Sunday Brad and andrina they absolutely are and I’m going to use my golf voice for this
Because I do not want to annoy the people who have come out to celebrate but they prognostic prognostication ceremony is underway right now and so you’re watching uh Rick Belair who is the chairman of groundhog days uh talking about all of the different events that they have here in Woodstock
All weekend long Woodstock Willie should be making his way out of that little uh wood stump behind I don’t know if you guys can see that to the left of Rick Belair is right now that is where the famous Woodstock Willie is right now they will knock on the door they’ll see
If he uh comes to the front of it and they will see if he sees his shadow or not now we do know that punk Satani Phil who is uh probably the most famous groundhog in the country uh he did not see his shadow which means that out
There out east there is not going to be uh or there is going to be an early spring so we hoping that Woodstock Willie although he is his own groundhog and typically makes his own decisions we’re going to see what he decides to do so uh whether he sees his shadow or not
So Brad and andrina we’re going to just kind of let this play out and uh we’ll let you sort of listen in to uh to What’s Happening Here in Woodstock because I don’t want to talk over the ceremony too much Texas Sweden I can’t hear you all okay every year every year people ask me how big was the crowd how many people were here so we’re going to start at the far back corner you’re number one in the purple coat start going around every tap tap your shoulder take a number and let us know
Where it ends Up I should tell you to the guy who’s to the right of afterno there’s a display ofilia at the Woodstock Public Library for you groupies of ground Hug Day you got to come see some of the things left behind from colia pictures sketches of the set designed a fascinating display
That’s the library a couple blocks west come out to celebrate Groundhog Day each and every year oh great Bob will be there telling more stories um there was also I ran into somebody who’s celebrating a birthday today Groundhog Day birthdays Groundhog Day anniversaries all right well Jackie we
Appreciate your report so much from that huge audience out there in Woodstock we’re GNA give Willie some time to get ready and we’ll come back to you when Willie’s ready to walk out of and may may happen at any moment we will be back when that happens and uh we going to go
To weather now we have we are going to go to weather all right and look outside right now at Daily Plaza and then we’re going to kick it over to Mary K K Mary K K we may have to interrupt you at any moment because the most important question is
Whether This Vermin in Woodstock our buddy Willie uh sees his shadow or not but with that take it away sun behind you I’d love to see it oh and it’s right on your weekend Brad and Aina good morning we are expecting sunny skies coming up this weekend with
Temperatures running a good 10 to 15 degrees above average that has been the trend and we’re going to keep that going in fact as we go through time today yes we are cloudy to start but we are looking for some late day clearing before the sun goes down as we start to
Change that pattern looking live here at the NIU Campus we at 37° notice the wind direction Northeast now at 12 mph that means a cooler day the water temperature is only 35 at the same time that Northeast wind flow over the lake is actually creating this Stratus layer so
That’s why we do have cloud cover to start our day and we see it on the satellite review so that’s going to hang around probably through lunchtime then later today around 4 or 5 o’ we start noticing signs of change as conditions clear out for us so we’ll start with
Clouds end up with a little hint of sun definitely cool cooler today than it was yesterday when we were one degre shy of a record in the middle 50s for highs we’ll see 41 for Midway 43 though when you head down to Morris and Ottawa and probably 38 degrees in walk Kean tonight
We begin that clearing pattern now here’s how it sets up high pressure builds across the area just in time for the weekend this is a blocking system notice the rain event to the South it’s it’s a big roadblock basically holding off any systems from coming in holding
Off off the cloud deck from the West as well eventually it slides to the east coast and offshore allowing our next system to come in that does not happen though until we get into next week Thursday or Friday so we’re going to be dry and quiet for a while and look for
That afternoon sunshine today as the day we’s on 39 for the height we move to the 40s this weekend and then we expect the middle 40s to start next week and you can see the temperature Trend climbing as we get into to Wednesday and Thursday now with that warm air the climate
Prediction Center is keeping us warmer than normal in fact a good half of the country with warmer than normal temperatures for the 6 to 10 day outlook and we do see that in our 10-day Trend so when I talk about that new system that comes in we will stay dry all the
Way through the middle of next week and then as we move into the 50s next week Thursday and Friday I think that’s our opportunity where we could actually have thunder mixed in with this precipitation as it comes on board because temperatures will be so mild and it
Looks like we’re going to be on the mild side of that system with highs in the 50s and even after that system departs we are holding in the middle 40s for daytime highs so you can see our normal high is right around the freezing Mark
And even though today is a cooler day it is not going to feel as cold as it should I mean you even heard Jackie talking about that and even as we get into the weekend when we clear the sky and bring out the sunshine that’s going
To feel quite nice with highs in the middle 40s but let’s keep in mind you know she’s talking about being out there without a hat and gloves and all the layers I think back to 2011 Groundhog Day uh let’s see 2015 Groundhog Day when we were had two feet of snow right this
Is a very different story and I don’t know if I’m mad at it Mary Kay I know right it’s easier easier to have a party out there for sure it is it’s fun fun for a lot of families in Woodstock Mary K thank you thanks MK Metra says it’s still dealing with
Issues related to its Ventra app this is news we first broke yesterday at 7 a.m. right now Metra is undergoing big changes doing away with ticket windows and asking Riders to buy tickets at kiosk or on the ventor app but yesterday the app failed multiple times the first
Outage came around 6:00 a.m. during the morning Rush Hour Metro shut down Ventra and relaunched it that worked for a bit but then it crashed completely around 7 a.m. leaving some Riders worried about their morning ride I wasn’t expecting it to be down um but you know I was just
Like okay this sucks I guess we’ll see what happens when I get on the train but you know fortunately not not too much in a statement on its website Metra says it’s working with its vendor Ventra to resolve the issue the company says anyone who can’t buy a ticket online can
Get help from conductors there’s also a chance people may be charged extra through the app well great those charges should disappear while pending customers are encouraged to request to refund if extra charges go through so that’s a mess and that would be frustrating very frustrating and I think it’s a good
Reminder to just check your account and make sure you’re not getting charged fees that you did and I frankly having dealt with ventor before I would not buy a ticket I would check with a conductor because I agree total gum up situation and trying to get a
Refund from Ventra can take it down a wormhole all right well 7:14 right now we are still live in Woodstock we’re waiting for Willie to come out of that stump to make his weather prediction we’ll have Jackie costc live after the break mhm first the the uh for the first
Time the mother of an alleged school shooter is taking the witness stand too in her own defense coming up while Jennifer Crumley is saying in Oxford Michigan and a hazard for commuters on dambo Lake Shore Drive big chunks of concrete in the middle of the road we’re

Can’t you can’t pull a man right out of bed you know and and and Li King you know so yeah I think we may have witnessed that but the good news is saw no Shadow so that poor 10 in early spring and we’re feeling it outside

Journal including one that said quote I want help but my parents don’t listen to me did you ever believe that your son needed mental health treatment no I mean there was a couple of times where Ethan expressed anxiety but not not to a level where I felt he needed to go see a
Psychiatrist or mental health professional right away I wish he would have killed us instead said all around both parents face involuntary manslaughter charges to trial for Ethan crumley’s father father is scheduled to begin in March and soon we will get a Peak at the border security and Aid bill it’s a bipartisan
Bill on Capitol Hill the text is expected to be released publicly today or sometime this weekend depends on how far they get Republicans say depending on the final wording voting yes would make sense besides the border the bill includes money for Ukraine Israel Taiwan and National Security students test
Scores fell during the pandemic but a new study shows they are on the rebound researchers found Mass are up 33% from pandemic lows and reading scores are up 25% the study tracked annual test data from 30 different states check out these chunks of concrete we saw after on Duo
Lakeshore Drive near Randolph an officer spotted this mess yesterday and it’s just not the first time we’ve seen this here though just yards away in October of 2019 we were there as pieces of concrete fell directly into the path of oncoming cars look at that one engineer
Says the weather is likely to blame for this no matter how great the construction method initially you know you’re going to have these situations where the exposure to the weather elements is going to cause things to happen to materials and concrete is not immune to it and experts say we’ll
Likely see more of this popping up the city’s inspector should be out on some routine inspections but if you see something they ask you to call 311 well days after two shootings near Chicago High School city leaders are are trying to figure out whether cops belong
In schools yeah we’ve got the the latest on the heated debate happening at City Hall and what this could mean for students and the problems with metra’s app continue before Morning H A This is CBS 2 News good morning I’m Adina Sinclair with a quick look at your headlines on our Friday morning first let’s get to meeter Alis Mary K Klein for a look at our forecast on our Friday good morning and good morning Audrina happy Friday cooler today than yesterday winds
Off that 35 degree Lake are going to hold steady temperatures in the upper 30s downtown some lower 40s though south and west of the city high pressures building in for your weekend just in time for Sunshine both Saturday and Sunday with above average temperatures usually we top out around the freezing
Mark but this weekend we are talking low and middle 40s and as we reach into next week Audrina we are finding 50s as we get into Wednesday and Thursday February what Mary Kay thank you looking forward to that sunshine I love it let’s get a check of your travel times right now you
Know what it’s pretty light for our Friday morning we’re seeing some slight slowdowns on the inbound Dan Ryan the Eisenhower and the Stevens and also the outbound Kennedy pretty slow right now in students from sen High School in the Edgewater Community remembering students who were shot they held in an emotional
Vigil in their honor Chicago Police kept a watch last night as this group gathered in the block where 16-year-old Davon Gibson was killed his death was the third High School related deadly shooting in just days including one in the loop last week and happening today Mayor brandan Johnson is in Los Angeles

Cricket machines you know what I’m saying all right we are starting with breaking news um out of lurry Children’s Hospital we’ve been concerned about this and on top of this for the past couple days major Network outage uh likely potentially caused by a cyber security matter here’s a look at One impact of
The problem when parents try to sign in or check in their child’s records uh they see an error message the network outage is also affecting phone and internet service at the street of real hospital as well as phone lines at ly’s three other locations metro trains are running
Smoothly but that’s not the case for the Venture app that gets you on to Metro trains exactly they’re making a transition ticket windows are closing for the first time this week so now there’s issues with purchasing tickets through the app that BR just mentioning no human beings depend on the app no app
Technology mhm CBS new s ey joining us from ogal station with the very latest on this good morning yeah good morning guys so an update overnight from Metra officials saying while the Ventra app is up and running for Ticket purchases passenger may still see a message with an error
Pop up and we actually tried to purchase a ticket moments ago and we did receive this message it says server is currently unavailable no connection to server please try again later now this all started yesterday as you guys mentioned once they rolled out uh the kiosks uh as far as ticket purchases
Go and the app only and now they’ve shut down those ticket windows it’s led to a lot of confusion and some concerns for communter many getting that error message we just showed you when trying to purchase tickets at one point yesterday the app stopped working Al together the app created by a company
Based overseas called cubic Transportation Metra tells us some people are seeing some extra charges from yesterday’s outage as well but ensure those charges should disappear from bank accounts it’s a little bit embarrassing know for them I I would say so you know I guess I kind of feel for them a little
Bit it’s free ride so can’t complain too much Metro says to expect intermittent outages with their app throughout the day today as they’re continuing to work with their vendor to get this issue resolved right now we are live outside of Ogle V station I’m Asel Rai CBS TS
Okay and as Al you you checked already you’ve tried to do it yourself and what were your findings yeah that’s exactly right Brad we uh tried about say about 20 minutes or ago ago or so uh to purchase a ticket for today for tomorrow for any time uh
This week and it shows up server is currently unavailable took a screenshot of that on my phone here and that’s the latest we’re seeing we just talked to Metro officials moments ago to get another update they tell us this is what passengers could see throughout the
Morning as they tried to get it resolved they said try not to do multiple purchases and continue to press that button that is when you’ll start to see your account jammed up which is just a nightmare but I mean so anecdotally and I’ve heard from a couple of friends
Already who said it’s not working so Metra may say it’s working but again anecdotally I’ve 100% of the people I’ve heard from today said it’s not working so beware to commuters uh thank you for that show and tell Asel we appreciate it and we know you’ll stay on top of
It and power is expected to be back on this morning at the BP plan in white fighting Indiana after a fire force workers to evacuate yesterday so the fires coming from the stacks were increased as you see here to burn off extra oil during the outage whing officials say air quality testing shows
No health risk to the public but Local Economic analysts say gas prices could go up in our area over the weekend so that’s why there’s just a lot of eyes on that situation and there are always a lot of eyes on that Refinery today a group of people trying to remove former
President Donald Trump from the Illinois Primary will take their case to a court of appeals earlier this week the State Board of Elections voted unanimously to keep Trump on the ballot saying they don’t have the authority to remove him this has been playing out in over a
Dozen states that want to remove Trump over his role in the January 6 Capital Insurrection today’s appeal hearing is set for 9:30 a.m. and right now a state of emergency still in place in South Suburban Dix Moore after three more water main breaks on Wednesday Dix Moore
We know has a long history hisory of water issues we’ve been telling you about them the village has seen a total of 12 water main breaks over the course of a week so you talk about the brakes but think about the impact for families there schools closing people having to
Boil their water The Village President says the community is just overwhelmed as old pipes continue to break people living there right now still under that water boil order taking a live look now outside as we peek in at Millennium Park and there you see it and you can see I
Don’t know if you see sun coming up yet or not or when we’re going to see that but meteorologist Mary Kay kly is certainly here to tell us when that might happen good morning Mary Kay a good morning oh you’re looking sharp with that I think you and you guys are are
Gorgeous true don’t overboard it with the tie though because then the boss is going to hear that I’m going to have to go back tie edict I mean um so but I heard that that uh you uh swiped it yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah this is swiped not my tie Dave
Savini doesn’t know but this is his tie but I’m sure he’s sleeping right now so he he’ll never know what we hope yeah never know well you guys over it tonight when he exactly so uh you guys both look fantastic toing your red of course we are celebrating and promoting Women’s
Health today yeah Go Red For Women cardiovascular disease is such a big killer of women and so we’re just helping the American Heart Association just to raise awareness that’s why we’re all in red and uh Mary Kay uh you look great and you’re red what do you have on
Tap for us on this Friday okay so it is Friday happy weekend we’re stuck in the clouds for the moment we do have 39 for the forecast high today so go on or the mid-50s but a mild weekend is headed our way with a lot of sunshine and really
It’s dry for a while at least through the middle of next week and then late in the week we’re going to see the chance for a shower a thunderstorm next week because of the mild air temperatures are in the 30s 37° at O’Hare we are in the
Middle 30s for you in kakei we have that breeze off the 35 degree lake that is pulling in some stratus clouds notice the cloud deck I think these clouds are going to linger much of today it’s going to take late day hours for us to see those clearing Skies that’ll happen as
We head into tonight as a ridge of high pressure moves in so we’re going to see gradual clearing in time then some fog is possible tonight but Saturday begins that Ridge of high pressure moving in beautifully and that’s going to carve out Sunshine for your weekend and temperatures will be soaring into the
40s we go a good 10 to 15 degrees above average all because of this blocking Ridge of high pressure watch how it holds off the rain system to the South the clouds to the West it’s just a roadblock and it’s going to sit there at least through Monday then it starts
Traveling Eastward allowing for the next system to take shape in the plain that’s the one we’re watching to bring us our next chance of precipitation but it’s not going to come in here until about Thursday or Friday of next week so it’s a dry quiet pattern it’s just we’re
Dealing with these stubborn clouds for now late day clearing on tap and then Saturday and Sunday Sunshine even into Monday as well as that blocking Ridge of high pressure kind of dominates our weather picture and then as I mentioned Wednesday is dry but Thursday we start
To see signs of change as that new system comes in with 50° temperatures but I think when that arrives Thursday and Friday of next week we could be watching for not only rain but thunderstorm chances as well because we will remain on the mild side of that
System so that has perked our interests here in the First Alert weather center but in the meantime I know you are looking forward to some sunshine coming up this weekend and it’s going to feel pretty nice with those temperatures running 10 to 15° above average I mean
What a treat right what a treat for the weekend I was already excited now I’m even more excited Mary Kay thank you yeah well we’ve told you all the time you know we are always investigating here and as recent shootings near Chicago Public Schools reignite debate over school resource officers we’re also
Looking into this this week mayor Brandon Johnson signaled he supports ending the more than $10 million contract between CPS and the Chicago Police Department so people who oppose student resource officers in schools argue that students arrested on campus often end up in the criminal justice system for in school disciplinary
Incidents but supporters say these officers in the school are a major asset when they’re carefully selected specifically trained and properly equipped are a huge asset for a school campus the board of education is expected to vote on the future of school resource officers over the summer and
That could mean the removal of those resource officers from CPS could happen as soon as next fall and several people are dead after a small plane crashed in a mobile home park near Tampa Florida now according to the fire chief the pilot called mayday before the plane
Went off radar and look at the scene here smoke and Flames this is a mobile home park in Clear Water which caused fire damage to three other homes as well the fire chief has not said how many people were killed that’s because they’re still working to learn not only
How many people were on the plane but how many people are inside the mobile home or nearby just look at those pictures wow unbelievable Pres Biden landed in Delaware overnight where the bodies of three American Service members killed in a drone attack will return home but as the president pays tribute
The US military is preparing to retaliate it’s time to uh to take away even more capability than we’ve taken in the past we look to hold the people that are responsible for this accountable defense secretary Lloyd Austin says the US response to last weekend’s attack will be multi teed uh
Targets in both Iraq and Syria have been given the green light he says these strikes will be different than those in the past tough news this morning from the University of Chicago Medical Center the hospital announced it’s laying off 180 people a spokesperson tells us they are workers that do not interact with
Patients those employees were notified yesterday and offered a severance package in a statement UC Chicago medicine said the decision wasn’t made like but was necessary for the hospital to quote deliver on our mission Black History Month is now of course underway and one Southside school is teaching students how to empower themselves
Through Reading which we know is so important critically important bronzville class scho elementary school hosted its second annual black Greek read aloud day so members of traditionally black sororities and fraternities read aloud to students during home room yesterday the goal of this program is to inspire and connect
Young students with role models in their Community who look like them well Woodstock Willie has spoken and he says early spring yes we are so excited about that we hope it comes true we’re live in Woodstock right now on this Groundhog Day coming up our Jackie costc has a
Live interview with Willies Handler the man who makes this all possible we’ll See 7:45 welcome back to the stream as we’re going back out to Woodstock where Willie has just predicted an early spring Jackie that is the best news we could have had on this Groundhog Day Brad and not Dr a good morning to you it is the best news it’s the news that we
Wanted we don’t want to deal with winter very much longer now we were going to talk to Willy’s hler but uh Willie actually is already going off somewhere I don’t know where he went but uh he’s the most famous guy here the most SEC or the second most famous guy here is uh
Mayor Mike Turner so good morning to you good morning glad you’re here well so glad you’re here so glad we’re here it’s always just such a special morning in Woodstock and I I really am genuine in saying that that you feel the community Spirit uh what do you think is so
Special about this day well what’s special is is the it’s the volunteers that make this happen and then all the visitors that we get from not just other states in the US but from other countries and so and that’s been going on we had a huge crowd this morning so
It was fantastic I was going to say when you’re standing up here which by the way we learned the secret of uh the Gazebo and how they stand out here for about an hour because they have these really nice heaters up here so that will keep you
Nice and warm but when you look out over the crowd I mean how does that make you feel as mayor a it’s it it it really it’s gratifying because I know that we’re doing things that people you know people are happy with and it and it also
It’s uplifting to who we are as a city it’s an identity it’s not the only thing that we’re that we want to be known for but it’s so special to us and it helps a stand out you know it’s so it’s so amazing how one decision by one man Bob
Hudgin to to place the movie here in Woodstock really changed the history and you guys have so embraced the history uh that that movie the shooting of that movie created um I guess how has that changed the history of Woodstock well the the it changed the trajectory of the
City and and it and it created an identity that that kind of forms the base of who who we are and and it was happen stance they were originally going to go to barbou Wisconsin as I understand it Bob hudgin made a visit here saw the city called Harold Ramis
And said hey you need to check out this town and this square and he came and looked at it and he’s like this is fantastic and and the rest is history it is fantastic it it has such a a small town charm and and spirit to it um and
You can tell the people who live here today really carry that on uh last question for you they actually just removed the stump so we don’t even have the stump here anymore uh are you glad that Willie went the way he did this morning I am very glad we’ll take spring

Black women we’re not sure why it may have to do with genetics though cardiologist Dr Harmony Reynolds with NYU langone Health says women need to be aware of other complications during pregnancy that can have an impact later pregnancy is a form of a stress test for
Women if we get high blood pressure in pregnancy or diabetes or have a problem called preclampsia that raises your cardiovascular risk in the moment but it also turns out that it raises your risk down the line for heart disease and stroke Maran says she had to change her
Diet go to cardiac therapy and exercise she also had therapy for her mental health I had a high stressed life I had a career I had four children I know now that I matter my health matters to myself to my family I can’t do anything for them if

Wind at 12 that’s doing a couple things it is pulling in cool air and keeping clouds around those clouds will be pretty stubborn going into the afternoon but we are looking forward to some late day clearing especially as we get into tonight and as you mentioned the weekend Sunshine dominating our weather picture
Both Saturday and Sunday Adrina temperatures running 10 to 15° above average like that Mary Kay thank you so much let’s get a check of your travel times here on our Friday morning right as the commute starts to build but you know what Chris hmer M calls it Friday
Light we’re seeing a pretty good drive times right now on this inbound and outbound side of our expressways this morning power is expected to be back on at the BP plan in Whiting Indiana after the fire forced workers to evacuate there yesterday as a safety measure the
Fire coming from the stacks you see here was increased to burn off extra oil during that outage and right now a state of emergency still in place in south suburb and dixmor after three more water main breaks happen on Wednesday dimore has a long history of water issues we’ve
Been telling you about that the village has seen a total of 12 water main breaks over the course of a week The Village President says the community now overwhelmed as old pipes just continue to break there as a result people living there are still under a water oil order
Well our CBS News Chicago stream is always on you can catch us on Pluto TV through the CBS News app on Fire TV and Roku I hope you have a good Friday and we will see you on the Stream [Applause] This is CBS 2 news and right now at 8 Network outages still affecting operations at one of the biggest children’s hospitals in the Midwest and now we know this could be a Cyber attack and what stock Willie has spoken it’s Groundhogs Day we’ve got the verdict from the Vermin and what started
As a way to just feed himself turned into a form of therapy and now his livelihood Jamaica Ponder live with us this morning to bring us this new bakery in Hyde Park on our foodie Friday and with that we say good morning to you I’m
Brad Edwards and I’m Aus and CLA good to be with you this morning we have lots of fun stuff to get to but first we start with that news we’ve been following very close for yeah we’ve learned the major and ongoing Network outage affecting lurry children’s hospital is due to a
Cyber security matter Hospital officials announced that update late last night CDs muga ODU live outside Lori children’s hospital where this critical outage is now into a third day exactly so this started on Wednesday that is when hospital employees noticed they couldn’t access online records and clearly it has persisted since then take
A look at your screen right now because this is the message that parents are getting when they log on they’re basically trying to get access to records online and they can’t they get an error message it doesn’t end there though the network outage is also affecting phone and internet service at
The streeterville hospital as well as phone lines at L’s three other locations now we spoke with a staff member who wanted to remain anonymous they tell us the outage has made it difficult to order prescriptions document vaccines schedule procceed and even check test results and while
This is not the first time an outage has happened at the hospital they say it’s the first time it’s been this bad you know we haven’t used paper charts now in over 10 years so when people come in not only do we not know what they’re coming in for who’s
Coming in when they’re supposed to come in we have essentially no information about them um it used to be you know if it went down there was a time where we would have our paper charts still and we don’t have that anymore now as part of that statement Hospital
Officials also say they took Network systems offline as part of their response to this matter they also say they are working with leading experts and local agencies to quickly find a fix to this issue and we’ll let you know when that happens we’re live in streeterville migu CBS News all right
Migo thank you for staying on top of that students from sen high school and the Edgewater Community are honoring the students who wor they honored them at an emotional vigil yeah they’re asking for the gun violence that has just been plaguing Chicago public schools to stop and at that vigil
They remembered a student recently killed just steps away from his school Chicago Police kept a watch last night at that vigil as this group gathered on the Block where 16-year-old Davon Gibson was killed this death is the third one related to schools deadly shootings in days including one in the loop last
Night students who were at in high school during the shooting are now asking if they’re even safe at their school I didn’t go today because I was very scared um this is I think recently the environment has been pretty violent I don’t really it’s just been a very I
Don’t really feel safe coming to school the string of shootings near high schools is now forcing CPS to beef up patrols at schools during dismissal this is people in the Edgewater community plan to continue to organize they said they’re going to continue to take steps to keep their children
Safe while Chicago Police focus on those investigations the new initiative aims to stop the violence before it stars Community leaders along with mayor Brandon Johnson and Governor JB pritzer gathered yesterday to reveal their five-year strategy they plan is to expand interventions in three Chicago neighborhoods this year and add more
Neighborhoods each year as more money becomes available they want to raise funds through a public private partnership the goal is to help at least half of the 20,000 or so Chicagoans who are at the highest risk of gun violence following the press conference Governor pritz spoke about the symbolic
Resolution passed by city council this week calling for a ceasefire in Gaza yeah Governor priser says he’s actually disappointed adding that the resolution just doesn’t go far enough to condemn the atrocities of the October 7th terror attack by Hamas I I don’t think that that resolution will have any actual
Impact on foreign policy of the United States or on the hostilities taking place in the Middle East on Wednesday Mayor Johnson cast that tiebreaking vote making Chicago the largest city in the country to pass a ceasefire resolution happening today mayor Brandon Johnson is in Los Angeles to attend a policy Summit
It is sponsored by the African-American Mayors Association the mayor will discuss the issues of affordable housing homelessness green Energy Solutions and making City safer they will also look for common ground on how policy makers and cultural leaders can come together to solve the challenges that cities are
Facing right now and the festivities are winding down in Woodstock we just found out if we’re going to get six more weeks of winter or if spring will come early that’s right early this morning Woodstock Willie made the call and we’ll be seeing an early spring Willie Willie
Now let’s keep a shot of this let’s look at this can we pull this full can we pull this full all right so wait for it I okay so here here they are talking it might freeze but they’re they’re basically discussing you know what the Mind trust has come up
With and uh we think Willie was a little nervous and may it took a little tinkle he tinkled all over yeah yeah I mean but we’re not going to we we don’t have all that video right now um oh there goes there goes there goes there goes there
Goes oh there he is it was just a funny moment and time to shine I mean you can’t Rous a Roden out of bed at you know he’s used to sleeping on his own time oh see yeah yeah he said oh checked his coat yeah got a little tinkle on the
Coat going to have to go to the dry cleaner but Willie did his job Willie says we are going to see an early spring meteorologist Mary Kay C is here with the First Alert weather forecast and I’m telling you Mary Kay uh your forecast also pretends uh Spring right
Now I know a little taste of it can you imagine what he’s thinking though looking back at all those faces I know I mean he like he’s got to be like you are you and I don’t know we know dog gears right I don’t know what groundhog years
Are so know this has got to come out of you know it could be one year for every 12 this could this could happen every decade in his years and he’s probably just stunned like why why did they get me up and what do they looking at this
Guy holding me up like this you know course thing and all screaming and cheering I mean my dog pees whenever someone pops up at the house you know right right yeah yeah can’t blame them you know oh can’t blame him at all but you know he did not see his shadow and
That means it’s mild early spring we’ll see but the climate Prediction Center agrees actually so meteorologically speaking they look at more model not just Shadows of the moment of sunrise but climate Prediction Center really putting our region right under that Bullseye to perhaps have warmer than weather warmer than normal weather for
The next two weeks now we are stuck in the clouds for now but we are hoping for that late day clearing as we get into a pattern change we’re holding at 38 we won’t see a lot of change in the temperature Department because of that Cool Breeze off the lake that’s what’s
Pulling in the cloud cover for the moment but we are hoping that those clouds start to break break up as we go through time later on especially as we get into this evening we’re going to see those Skies clear out so steady temperatures upper 30s lak side Inland
We’ll see about 43 in Joliet 40 degrees for high in Decalb so Sunshine builds in for Saturday and Sunday it’s because of this pattern this blocking Ridge of high pressure for Saturday Sunday even Monday holds off the clouds keeps the rain to the South Keeps Us dry then it starts
Moving Eastward and that sets up a milder return flow and also opens the door for our next rain maker to move in but it’ll be a while before we have any precept coming we’re going to stay dry through the weekend dry to start next week probably dry through Wednesday I’m
Thinking Thursday Friday but that system is going to meet some 50 degree temperatures at that time so Brad and andrina we may have a Rumble of Thunder with that one oh that’s okay yeah we’ll deal with it yeah thanks Mary K Metra says it’s still dealing with issues
Related to its Venture app this is a huge headache that started yesterday morning right now Metra is undergoing big changes doing away with ticketing windows and asking Riders to buy tickets at kiosk or on the Venture app yesterday the app failed multiple times first outage came around 6:00 a.m. during the
Morning Rush Metro shut down Ventra relaunched it that worked for a bit but then it crashed completely around 7:00 a.m. leaving some Riders worried about their morning commute I wasn’t expecting it to be down um but you know I was just like okay this sucks I guess we’ll see what
Happens when I get on the train but you know fortunately not not too much in a statement on its website Metra says it’s working with its vendor Ventra to resolve the issue the company says anyone who can’t buy an online ticket can get help from conductors but of
Course not people who are ticket takers because they’re gone they’ve been eliminated uh but they may be charg extra 3 app too if you you know double click trying to get your ticket and those charges quote should disappear while pending who knows customers are encouraged to request a a refund that
Should be easy if those charges go through well it’s a court case that could set the standard for legal recourse for parents of School shooters coming up we’re headed to Oxford Michigan that’s where the mother of the Teen gunman who killed four students took the stand as she faces four counts
Of involuntary manslaughter we’ll look into this ahead of today’s [Applause] Case 88:13 good morning and welcome back as we keep an eye on your Ro this morning and we start with some breaking news we just learned three people are dead after that plane crashed into a mobile home park near near Tampa Florida an update to a story we just told you about about
30 minutes ago the FAA now says that a member of the flight crew was killed along with two people on the ground and if you take a look at this scene here you can see the scope of what we’re talking about look at the flames and smoke coming from this mobile home park
The fire chief there in Clearwater said the pilot called mayday before the plane just went off radar look at this scene here the smoke really high in the air those Flames are bright and it’s then crashed into a mobile home in again clear water the fire spread to three
Other homes so that’s why you’re seeing such a big scene there and today the mother of a Michigan school shooter will face cross- examination yeah she is on the stand in what’s believed to be the first of its kind trial Jennifer Crumbley testified Thursday defending why she didn’t think her son Ethan
Needed mental health counseling her son’s school warned Crumley hours before the deadly school shooting Ethan is accused of 15-year-old kill four students back in 2021 jurors heard entries from his journal the young man’s including this one I want help but my parents don’t listen to me did you ever
Believe that your son needed mental health treatment no I mean there was a couple of times where Ethan had spress anxiety but not not to a level where I felt he needed to go see a psychiatrist or a mental health professional right away I wish he would have killed us
Instead both parents face involuntary man S charge is a trial for Ethan crumley’s father is scheduled to begin in March Baltimore Ravens tight end Mark Andrews jumped into action to help a woman who was having a mid-flight emergency on a Southwest Airlines flight a nurse and Doctor were treating the
Woman after she lost Consciousness Andrews overheard and asked if she might have low blood sugar he is a type one diabetic and gave The Rescuers his diabetic test kit he carries with him the woman was given orange juice and started feeling better well Fridays are normally our favorite day of the week
But we have extra reason to be excited oh yes it is foodie Friday we love this we always love this we’re sorry for the high pitch that went up there we’re headed to a bakery in hiy park owned by someone who started this as therapy and now it’s his Livelihood In honor of Black History Month CBS News is proud to present 29 black history facts you probably didn’t learn in school yeah to lead us off in this course to teach us a thing or two author and educator Ernest CRM who will be our daily instructor if you missed day one
Yesterday make sure to head to our website to get caught up but here’s lesson number two maybe we don’t have it okay so uh lesson number two was I actually remember what it was just kidding um but uh that will certainly be on our website later today
We’ll show up in later shows and this teacher is absolutely fantastic he is and I just totally breaks it down breaks it down and I’m excited cuz I heard I’m going to learn a lot from this so I hope you guys check us out okay so back to
Our favorite day of the week foodie Friday to make a Ponder is here with us to tell us all about a new bakery in Hyde Park yeah hey good morning you guys morning this is a really sweet story it’s about a place called struggle beard yes pun intended but yeah it’s called struggle
Beard weard and it’s the new home of a veteran and this place came to be because this vet found that he could use baking as more than just a tool to feed himself but it also became a form of therapy and now four years later it’s his livelihood when Quinton McNair retired
From the military back in 2019 that is definitely one coat thick his first order of business might come as a surprise you really want to know I was like I’m about to grow my beard out I’ve been shaving for 24 years it hasn’t had a chance to flourish and be the beard
That it is meant to be for the bulk of his adult life McNair had been in uniform that transition from military to civilian life was a hard one the last 24 of my years of my life I have been institutionalized I’m still me somewhere deep down inside of there getting into
The kitchen helped to bring McNair back out of himself especially in the midst of the pandemic we get quarantine and I’m I’m sitting here having a hard time uh with the depression with the PTSD and one of my friends posted a cookie recipe on social media and I was like you know
What I can make that turns out he couldn’t actually the cookie was hot garbage um I had never really baked anything from scratch before that was my first attempt but it sparked something new in him it started with the therapy that bacon kind of was I was I was
Listening to music I was jamming I was in a comfort of my home being in a different Zone just not worried about or thinking about the intrusive thoughts and he post his Creations onto his socials we we know in Chicago was like the city of jokes um roasting is an art
So I would post uh like my failures my successes online and as a joke I would hashtag it struggle beard Bakery while it may have been a struggle at first in that process I got good people started asking for McNair to bring his treats to event and to mail them around the
Country the other part of the therapy is sharing stuff that you make you create with your own hands it was like a double dopamine Rush demand was so high he decided to go at it full time turning struggle beard from a hashtag to a bakery I came back with the intention of
Doing some kind of good in my city the bakery allows me to do that kind of good tell me how the storefront is just the beginning of his plans for struggle beard there are young men in Chicago that look like me that that were just
Like me I felt like if I had like a role model or somebody that could guide me I probably would have never me to went to the military now he intends on being that role model through his new bake program for kids in the community which
Is slated to begin later this year I found therapy through baking and sharing things that I create with my own hands I know I can’t be along in that feeling the bakery hasn’t been around long but it already seems to be a favorite in Hy Park they had students
Asking to get in before opening and once they did open the way that place filled up you two I was like wow that’s am I love that he found such purpose in what he’s doing as far as entrepreneurship and baking and now he’s going to pass
That on to others who might not like you said have been exposed to it or know somebody who runs a business like this yeah great therapy for him too yeah yeah wins all around I know I love that cookies you got cookies’s always like where’s the food I’m sorry okay next
Time thank you all right well you know Quinton who we just heard from isn’t the only one who’s struggled with growing a beard no our own Brad here has an award winning beard let me tell you he’s wearing a tie today in in this video back in 2016 Brad graced the cover of
Urban beardsman online magazine so here’s a little beard history for you yeah it’s it’s um beard appreciation month yeah I I didn’t have any trouble grown a beard um I did have trouble with a B with with with the boss accepting the beard that yeah that was a little
Bit of drama and this his previous boss we’re going to do a poll so just one day I came in and then I was like hey this is how it is you know and uh he said well you know my rules about changing your look I said well now I have a beard
So I can’t take it off cuz that would be changing my look he’s like get out get out of here that’s what he said so all right moving on wants to rely more on technology when it comes to buying tickets but the app used to do that is experiencing some major outages coming
Up we’re live with what that means for commuters and we’re continuing to check to see if it’s back to normal and the push to remove president Trump from the Illinois primary ballot heads back to court what Advocates are doing to try and revive their case after the state supreme court already shot it Down [Applause] Good morning and happy Friday to thanks for being with us I’m Adrina Sinclair good morning Adrina good morning everybody I’m Brad Edwards happy Friday to you we start with breaking news where we have learned the ongoing Network outage affecting lurry children’s hospital is a cyber security matter
Likely here’s a look at one of the impacts when parents try to sign in to check their child’s records They see an error message the network outage is also affecting phone and internet service in the streeterville hospital as well as phone lines at ly’s three other locations Metra trains are running
Smoothly but that’s not the case for the Ventra app yeah the ticket windows were closed for the first time this week so now they’re having issues with purchasing tickets through the app so a big problem for so many commuters CBS 2 Asel reside joining us from the obbe
Station with the very latest as last time we talked to you you tried to buy a ticket on that app you were getting a system error message has anything changed since then uh Audrina Brad it has not and I kind of want to show you walk you through what passengers are dealing with
This morning we’ll zoom in here on my phone I’m on the Venture app on my phone right now and when you go to buy Metra ticket you have to put in uh your departure station I’ll hit Ogo V here really quickly and then once you hit your transportation station let’s go to
For example Glenco and then it just says we cannot get ticket prices so I’m going to try to uh use a different one maybe it’s just that station getting a low battery alert there of course uh let’s go to Highland Park see if we can do
That just anything you click a lot of them say you cannot get the ticket prices please check your internet connection and at some point uh you do get a service eror message that says it cannot be connected right now now this all started yesterday when Metra moved
Uh their ticket purchases over to just kiosks and the Venture app they’re doing a way with the physical ticket window it led to lots of confusion and frustration with community there’s many getting an error message when trying to purchase tickets like we just showed you and at one point the app actually stopped
Working all together yesterday morning the app is created by a company based overseas called cubic Transportation working very closely with Metro fessionals here in Chicago right now they tell us some people are also seeing some extra charges from yesterday’s outage but ensure those charges will eventually disappear from bank accounts
It’s a little bit embarrassing you know for them I I would say so you I guess I kind of feel for them a little bit it’s free ride so can’t complain too much and so guys I’ll show you again what passengers are seeing this morning you’ll see my phone says server is
Currently unavailable this is what pops up uh if you even get through the first page it hasn’t even let me go to uh the payment option just when you click your destination immediately it says no internet connection Metro officials this morning the latest from them they tell us for passengers and commuters to
Expect intermittent outages they say there could be a moment where it works but there’s rolling outages right now uh throughout the day throughout this morning so far they say Do not continuously try to purchase a ticket because that might uh might lead to multiple charges on your bank account
That could get not only your app jammed up but also your account as well that’s the latest from the ogal V train station here I’ll send it back to you guys all right Asel thank you thank you Asel well power is expected to be back on this
Morning at the BP plan in Whiting Indiana after a fire force workers to evacuate there yesterday so the fir is coming from the stacks that usually happens but they were increased there to burn off extra oil during the outage Whiting officials say the air quality testing shows no health risk to the
Public but local analysts that we spoke to focus on economics say gas prices could go up in the area over the weekend because of this today a group of trying to remove former president Donald Trump from the Illinois Primary will take their case to a court of appeals earlier
This week the State Board of Elections unanimously voted to keep Trump on the ballot saying they don’t have the authority to remove him they have been playing out over a dozen states just like this that want to remove Trump over his role in the January 6 Capital Insurrection today’s
Appeal hearing is set to start at 9:30 and right now a state of emergency still in place in south suburb and dixmor after three more water main breaks on Wednesday dixmor has a long history of water issues we know the village has seen a total of 12 water main breaks
Over the course of just the past week The Village President says the community is overwhelmed as those old pipes continue to break in these conditions people living there are now still under a boil water water boil order mhm taking a live look outside now and there you see
It the sun we’re waiting for the Sun meter Alex Mary Kay k joins us Mary Kay we going to see that thing today we’ll get there yes late day clearing but especially on your weekend great it’ll be quite nice yeah yeah noticeably cooler today compared to yesterday when we hit 55 degrees we’re
Going to have a breeze off the lake the water temperature is 35 that’s why it will feel much cooler but the weekend features a sunny mild Trend with temperatures about 10 to 15 degrees above average we stay dry till at least next Wednesday or Thursday looks like
The end of next week could feature our next precipitation event but our 10-day Trend shows above average temperatures all around Chicago right now we’re at 38 I don’t think the temperature is going to move a whole lot today because of that northeasterly wind component coming off the cooler Lake we’re going to keep
That wind flow going and all morning it’s been creating this Stratus layer this lower Cloud deck that’s been kind of stubborn over the city eventually it will start to scour out and we’ll have some clearing late in the day especially as we get into tonight otherwise highs today hovering right around that 40
Degree Mark then your weekends Sunshine all around us the reason for the warming in the bright Skies high pressure is going to park right over our region it sits there Saturday Sunday Monday holding off rain to the South holding off clouds to the West so the air mass
Underneath this Ridge of high pressure everything’s sinking and dry drying and this is just blocking any systems from coming in now it eventually moves to the east drifts away and by the middle of next week we watch this next storm take shape in the plains it arrives Thursday
Into Friday and since we will be so mild when that storm moves in I do think that we could have a Rumble of Thunder here for Thursday and for Friday Thursday’s forecast high is 52 degrees in the meantime today we will have slow clearing throughout the afternoon the weekend is featuring those temperatures
About 10 to 15° above average in fact the climate Prediction Center is looking at the eastern half of the country for the next 6 to 10 days to have those above average temperatures and that’s exactly what our 10day Trend shows tail end of this here Thursday Friday into
The 50s we go so once we clear out the sky guys we’re going to enjoy a sunny mild weekend all right looking forward to that Mary Kay thank you so much well recent shootings near Chicago public schools are reigniting a debate over whether School resource officers should
Stay in schools just this week mayor Brandon Johnson signaled he supports ending the more than $10 million contract between CPS and the Chicago Police Department now people who oppose student resource officers in schools argue that students are arrested on campus and they often end up in the criminal justice system for in school
Disciplinary incidents but supporters say these officers are a major asset when they’re carefully selected specifically trained and proper L equipped are a huge asset for a school campus the board of education is expected to vote on the future of the school resource officers over the summer meaning we could see them removed from
CPS as soon as next fall in this summer we told you that the Illinois Supreme Court finally granted Wayne Watson a certificate of Innocence nearly a decade after he was exonerated for a murder he didn’t commit man now Washington says it’s not the end of the road because of
A possible paperwork error here in cook County in 2015 prosecutors overturned Washington’s 1993 murder conviction thanks to New Evidence but there was a snag getting the certificate that officially wiped his slate clean finally got his paperwork in July but when Washington recently went to apply for a Michigan concealed pistol license it was
Swiftly denied when you run a background check I’m still a convicted murderer it’s like having a 300 lb weight tied to your leg 20 years after after the fact the clerk’s office in Michigan told us their system still shows Washington’s murder conviction C County needs to correct it
Before they can process his application we’ll follow up on this President Biden landed in Delaware overnight where the bodies of three American Service members killed in a drone attack will return home but as the president pays tribute the US military is preparing to retaliate it’s time to to take away even
More capability than we’ve taken in the past we look to hold the people that are responsible for this accountable and secretary Lloyd Austin says the US response to last weekend’s attack will be multi-layered Targets in both Iraq and Syria have given the green light he says these strikes will be different
Than those in the past and defense secretary Lloyd Austin says he’s sorry Austin apologizing to the American people for not disclosing he he was in the hospital for several days last month secretary Austin said he never directed anyone in the Biden Administration to hide his incident he was in the hospital
For prostate cancer surgery and then later some complications he had but he conceded that his first instinct was to keep the matter private nearly 200 people are out of work at the University of Chicago Medical Center this morning a spokesperson tells us the laid off workers are in positions where they
Don’t interact with patients those employees were notified yesterday and offered a package in a statement UC Chicago medicine said the decision wasn’t made lightly but was necessary for the hospital to quote deliver on our mission well we are wearing red today in honor of women’s heart health and it’s
Go Red For Women day after the break we tell a story of a woman who developed a rare but serious heart condition after giving birth how her story highlights the need for more women to know their heart health risk Well Woodstock Willie has spoken there will be not be rather six more weeks of winter spring is soon yes we we don’t want to we don’t want to put the wrong thing out there and manifest the wrong things yeah Jackie KC joining us live from Woodstock Illinois the real world
