My video was less than 20 minutes y’all that’s how bad it was yes I bought the iCloud storage but that really doesn’t matter especially if your phone storage is limited 128. now we got the 14. we got one terabyte and I also have the camera as well now too so
Quality is going up this video that I’m about to let y’all watch after I give you all this long intro it’s not that long but I usually get straight to the point but I wanted to explain some things to y’all um yeah this video was recorded on Keenan’s
Phone y’all with me Keaton in this video she’s a Delta and it was over an hour long so I’m doing a part one and a part two um we recorded this a month ago but I didn’t have any storage so I couldn’t I couldn’t get it sent to my phone
But with this new iPhone 14 went terabyte we in here I also went to Jamaica for my 21st birthday my birthday was March 8th I love my camera but it takes forever just for my content to download and it’s really bad I have over 600 videos
From my trip and I’ma just let y’all know that video is going to be uploaded later so I can’t even tell y’all when I have like 30 videos downloaded out of the 600. if you know which videos I want to use that’s why I have to download all of

A psych major here at Jackson and I in St Louis Missouri and I am a member of the Beta sorority in court okay so the first thing that we’re going to be talking about is I’m telling people things that they should know prior to joining Greek organizations and then we’re also just
Going to give some of our experiences being in one we’re almost a year old so [Applause] so yeah we have learned quite a bit throughout this year so yeah I guess we could get started but um we can start with what is discretion and what does it look like
So discretion is basically keeping important information to yourself and not presenting it to other people just so the information can keep its value and what it looks like whatever in pertains to Greek life if you are interested in a certain organization you will keep your interest to yourself like
The fact of it to yourself besides telling your friends tell your sweet mate telling some other girl that you think is interested in the same organization keeping that to yourself so yeah that’s one thing yeah and to add on to that discretion even looks like after the fact when or
If you are great to the opportunity to join a Greek organization that any um situations that you have between your line sisters or your Line brothers or anything that happens in general in your meetings um you definitely want to keep that in-house um you don’t want anybody to
Know what’s going on just for the simple fact of you know you want to keep your business to yourself okay you want to look messy yeah I definitely agree on what Keenan said uh after you know your process is finished if you finish the process of you you keep those things to yourself
That’s just like what happens in-house stays in-house and um with discretion also like William said don’t go telling your auntie Mama cousin daughter that live on campus that you interested because if you end up not being interested in that that sorority or fraternity again or anymore and you join another one people
Gonna people might look at you different but it’s all about keeping it to yourself um until the time comes to spread the information yeah you don’t want everybody to know your business just like your family like you wouldn’t tell everybody what’s going on um in your family you want to just tell
A random person so you just want to keep that same energy when it comes to your particular Greek organization if you are granted the opportunity to join right and also just to add on what they said what discretion might look like is if you want to go go and show your answers
And go show your interests multiple different ways in one way is by going to the events which we suggest not really going to the events with a bunch of people because that shows that you’ve been talking to other people about especially if you go to the events with
Like a group of five every single event that shows that you are talking about it so that’s not really discretion and also um it’s just like when we say keeping it to yourself because that is important and like when we said whatever you keep it to yourself it holds for Value yeah I
Always say another one would be uh like we’re Delta our colors are crimson and cream you don’t have to show up to things with your criminal which are red and white on don’t do it you don’t have to do that you don’t have to show up to
Um a cue event with your purple and yellow or gold on you don’t have to do that you can dress like how you dress any other day um and when you said something going to the events uh when you go to the events that you constantly go with a
Group of people it also shows that you cannot stand alone and it’s something that you want to do for yourself and so showing up with your bestie at all events it’s like can you come by yourself let’s let’s see how you are when you’re not alone but like when you are
When you are yourself can you stand on your own two feet with going to a community service event or going to a women’s health Forum are you willing to sit in that chair and listen to Somebody speak to you and to add on to going to
The events um something I also want to add if you’re trying to express interest is don’t overthink it so you know if you aren’t able to come to an event it’s not the biggest deal in the world because honestly half of our events are a part
Of our program this is something that we would do naturally whether there is a line happening or not so it’s not always that the members of the organization are watching you it’s just we are putting on an event because it is important to our organization and we would like you to
Come yes and experience that yes so don’t overthink it um you don’t have to worry too much or be on pins and needles you just want to come be yourself be authentic of course you know come presentable but you know don’t sweat it too much um the next question or the next
Statement would be to make genuine connections yes okay so genuine connections means two different things so we’ll talk about it first when you’re trying to express interest and then second just your life outside of these organizations so for one when you’re trying to express interest it’s totally okay to you know
Talk to a trusted member of that organization but you want to make sure that it is a genuine connection that you are making and that you are not just trying to you know become friends with them or make the connections solely for the fact that you want to be a part of
That organization because that does come across very obvious when that is the case so you want to make sure that you are being genuine with the connections that you’re making um from people that are within this organization and then also when it comes to you know your friends you want to
Make sure that you keep your friends um keep your good friends keep your good friends keep your good friend keep the people that want to be kept yes because those are going to be the people that are going to hold you down when you’re you know going through your process and
Frustrated yes in and out of you know being finished and with that too um keep your friends after because you have a life outside of your letters well you might see you soon you should have a life outside of your letters you should um you know these are my line sisters
Who also have become my friends but hey I also have friends outside of Delta because it’s hard and so having some people that you can go to and just not have those conversations about Greek life about you can talk about class you could talk about at home even though I can talk
About that with them because they become my friends I still talk about those things with my classmates that I’ve grown close to or my friends that I’ve had before becoming Elsa and so I say when you have those friends just know how they would go hard for you you go
Hard for them and so continuing to have genuine friendships before and after should be your best thing because not everybody want to hear about Greek life all the time not everybody want to hear about whatever because I know I know because I don’t and I’m in it so I don’t
Want to hear about it all the time I want to decompress and go watch a movie or something man that just like not have that on my mind also with um expressing interest in making connections with somebody in the organization y’all just be honest
If you’re gonna do it don’t be or try to become that person’s friend and then if you don’t make it you start talking to them and because then we would think Oh I thought the I thought a girl was cool I thought a boy was cool whole time they just
Trying to get in where they fit that’s not cool if you want to talk to that person if you think that person is a good role model for what you want to do then you you be real you be yourself because they could be just like you they
Could be you know Rowdy party girls but when they put that stuff on you know it’s straight to business and so don’t don’t pump fake it though don’t do that be yourself and then get into it and also to go with finding genuine connections it’s important to like we
Said be genuine and not break your neck to reach out to somebody who if they did not have the letters they would just be another person to you for example if you’re a freshman and you want to express interest to well you want to make a connection with a senior y’all a
Different major y’all can play different College y’all don’t have any of the same rsos anything it might be a little hard for y’all to connect so it might be a better option for you to find somebody else because these organizations most of the time they have more than one member
On campus so on campus are also if you want to join aluminum chapter in the area but yeah just try to find somebody who is in a close proximity proximity to you also and somebody that you would like to connect with because because if you don’t like her attitude and [ __ ]
Delta and you want to be a dancer you don’t have to make it to it sometimes it’s okay you can find somebody else yeah you want to make sure that if you are reaching out to somebody in a Greek organization that it is somebody that
You possibly look up to or you can see them as a mentor or something like that um just because I know for me personally before I became a Delta I really did observe who are now our Pro fights and I saw the way that They Carried themselves
And the way that they were about their business and that really helped you know help me figure it out and um yeah but then also going back to keeping those same friends your friends who are outside of Greek life they will be some of your biggest cheerleaders and you
Want to make sure that you reciprocate the energy so you want to make sure that they you know you keep them in your corner pretty much so try to reach out to people who you look up to or you can see yourself being in that organization if you you want to
Be a partier in the organization you want to host parties and stuff you don’t need to be reaching out to somebody who is doing business every single time because y’all are not compatible so you need to reach out to somebody who you feel like you should you would be like
If you had the chance to be in that organization know the difference between business professional business casual and what is casual and what not to wear wants to be let’s start with What Not to Wear once you leave your dorm room first off most most majorities especially Jackson State
University have a dress code so if your titties falling out your booty cheek coming out if you got this you got that you’ll buy it on you can’t wear that outside of your room so don’t do please don’t do it because you look bad not
Even if you want to be a part of Greek life you just look bad I don’t tell y’all nobody else y’all look bad so please don’t do that I’m begging y’all please don’t do that because I’m gonna be our big sister please y’all because and not saying you
Got to come out with you know your heels and your you know I’m not saying that but in my opinion I dress I dress like I want somebody to approach me I I don’t wear my scarf outside the house I don’t wear my body outside the house anything
I wear in my room I don’t wear nothing else um we’ll outside the door even outside the house um also on zone two on zone two going to class it don’t matter if it’s at 8am class you know you signed up for 8 am put your clothes on but um I also say
You can be yourself always be yourself your clothes are high how you dress be yourself don’t not saying you gotta change for us for them for whoever you don’t have to do that if that’s not how you dress then that’s fine Delta is also a business I’m pretty sure
The other facts is where these are businesses and so we dress in business professional business casual almost um another thing with your branding image is social media not saying we watching y’all we’re gonna know the girl that be on Instagram with her booty on the guy will be on Instagram smoking we don’t
If you did not about the digital environment if you did not know about your digital footprint your digital footprint is that anything that you post on social media and this could even be something that you like on Twitter if you comment on something any stories that you make even if you send a
Snapchat if you still use Snapchat no anything anything that you use on social media can be found if somebody wants to find it yes and I mean anything give me stuff from like yo fresh it’s yes so you want to you know keep that mindset and I know a lot of people
Might take that as oh I can’t be myself I’m being censored but it’s really just about protecting your brand and your image because whether you believe it or not you yourself are your own brand and the way that you carry yourself is extremely important especially if you
Are wanting to join one of these organizations um you know this doesn’t mean that you like she said you have to wear heels every day or be prim and proper if that’s not the type of person that you are but it’s just knowing a time and a
Place like you know me I love a good crop top you know some of our sisters love a good mini skirt and stuff like that but we’re not going to go to class like that or we’re not gonna you know I gotta go to a meeting or like yeah we’re
Not going to feel the interest I wouldn’t show up yeah we’re not gonna wear a jean jacket a ripped jean jacket to um interest meeting or something like that so you just want to know what time and a place and if you don’t know you can
Always ask and also you can look it up on the internet I’ll give you all right now please because it’s gonna help you out with y’all professional life also because in school they’re gonna require y’all to go to anything but Thunder Crocs in the back of your closet because don’t I’m telling y’all
It just they don’t be looking at myself I’m sorry I don’t have Crocs either right don’t be looking right but you want to roll it you know but like if you’re going somewhere flying let’s say you go to an event or something and it’s kind of like a like
What Reagan said a reproductive Health seminar you might switch some Crocs for a tennis shoe and if it’s a casual attire you and you don’t know what to put on at all I’ll just say throw on a JSU shirt or whatever college shirt it is some jeans and some tennis shoes some
Sandals some boots something simple if it’s business casual business casual for ladies I can’t really tell it for guys business casual into a nice blouse a nice look now get you some stuff that is not tight fashion Nova is tight so don’t get that you can see your
Um underwear lines do it you can’t uh don’t do that because it don’t look right but um your skirts just come to at least above your knee or below you can either do a pencil skirt well A-line skirt or a dress this is a model speaking that’s why she’s using a
Technical terms yeah so y’all can know A-line skirt it’s not the things that go like this the airline skirt is like this straight up and it’s straight so it won’t hug your body a lot of people say well I’m just taking hugs my body no it’s not the right cut because it’s
Supposed to go to straight up and down like what I said a blouse for business casual always close toes shoes though yeah business is closed toe shoes I know sometimes we we get tired of the heels and we want to put out some some comfortable slip bones
Find some flats or some nice yes if you don’t know how to walk in heels you don’t you don’t you better make sure that you have on the proper undergarments so that means having a slip if you’re wearing a dress or you know or some type of things or spandex if you
Know that your dress is see-through um if you’re going to be wearing something white you don’t want to wear a bright pink bra or something like that um you wouldn’t do stuff like that a black bra by the skin girls get to a white girl yeah because not only that but I understand
That some people are like oh I don’t feel like dressing up but honestly it’s not even just about dressing up it’s showing that you care so that you’re willing to put in that effort that’s really what the key is because if we’re seeing that you you know you’re coming
You’re dressed up that means that you genuinely wanted to be here that you genuinely care but if you’re looking like you rolled out the bed and you don’t have to break the bank either no if you’re on Jackson State campus we got a whole tiger closet full of professional clothes
They got some sets and everything yes so yes you don’t have to break the bank you can even somebody say that you have to say that you’re wanting to go to um an interest meeting but you don’t have anything I’m just sure you have a friend for real you
Have a friend you could even go to Goodwill you can go to TJ Maxx you go to Ross all of these different places and especially as a college student at an airccu yep don’t do that as uh even um pretty little thing got stuff so um as a college student especially if
You are in HBCU having business clothes really is a requirement because a lot of things that we do require us to be dressed and this is just preparing you for the real world where you will have to be presentable in all spaces so ultimately it’s really just about
Showing care for yourself and care for what you are doing because it shows that you’re willing to put in the effort latest pantyhose that goes like what’s your skin tone if you like don’t get no black painted hoes if you want color them uh darker don’t be getting no white pantyhose unless you
Wear it all white pink well white the light color the white girl pantyhose don’t get the white girl pantyhose if you don’t look white I’m just saying that um these are casual colors navy blue gray black white white and if you want if you’re going to a school event like Jackson State and
Want to wear a Jackson State College Jackson State colors navy blue red white but if you go to Alcorn and you wanna they got freaking nominates for Alcorn in this business casual you’re gonna tell us some purple and gold yeah but this professional ladies you need a
Blazer you can either wear a complete dress under or you can wear a button down a skirt like what we said or you can wear pants make sure the pants try to make them go to your ankles because short I just found this out that your ankle should not be out in business
That’s what they told us yeah for Delta business our ankles came here okay because I’m a little taller I definitely be sure to get you know longer pants and then also um when it comes to your hair and your makeup you want to make sure that your
Makeup is a little bit more on the conservative side you know I know I personally love a big lash but when you’re going to a business meeting or something like that it’s okay to put on like a little small lash um yeah and then you want to make sure
That you just look presentable so say um and then I know that I’m getting a little deep but this is just important so say that you have piercings or you have tattoos if you have something like that you want to make sure that you are covering them up I know you know it’s
Not about covering up who you are but it’s just knowing the time and place so me personally whenever I go to our chapter meetings whenever I go to my e-board meetings or any Delta meetings or any professional meetings I always flip my system up just because I know
That I’m in a professional setting and even though the world has changed things are acceptable outside of work some people still discriminate that’d be all the folks and I know it kind of is unfortunate but you just want to make sure that there is no room for error and
No room for somebody to not take you seriously yeah yeah okay good job gentlemen make sure you always wear a belt hey figure out belt loops for the belt oh yeah everybody if it has no Loops for the belt if it’s a skirt with some with thick belt loops foreign You walking from your dormitory to a big a building and you’re wearing heels try to not wear Crocs get you some blacks or something if you want to change your shoes you can change it there but it just don’t look right if you got Crocs slides and stuff
Carrying which you wouldn’t be walking to the building because you don’t know who you’re gonna see in the building and that’s gonna be your first impression so your first impression should always be a good one so try to wear some flats and then if you want to put your heels on
Switch it out or dug it out of where your heels the whole way because if you a bad girl and you could walk down that Plaza yeah do it baby do it if you can’t believe it’s okay end of slides please plates Amazon until I mean I’m sorry gentlemen this just
So much gentlemen try to get y’all a padfolio a little nice looking folder thing because y’all you know a lot of a lot of you get that ladies if you can’t get you a nice little nice leather looking purse besides like a book bag or something just this will help you
Forever but just something to something to hold your stuff that still can fit the dress code so you got a red so far you might need to leave that in the room and you might need to just get you a leather bag yeah everybody got a black a brown something so they don’t
Need to be a coach a case bag and what you unless you wanted to but you just need something like that I feel like that will help your appearances feel okay so what’s something to know is to know yourself know who you are about what you want to do surprise But know yourself because a lot of people get lost a lot of people get lost in the letters if somebody can’t explain themselves for two minutes without mentioning it they’re gone completely honest like we were to go out in public and just talk to people us being at Delta is
Not gonna be that’s not the first second third or even I’m probably gonna say I from Jackson State yeah a lot of people know Jackson State Bull and then from there I’ll talk about my psychology life and who I am now if you are a Delta that’s what I’m gonna bring that’s why
I’m break up because yeah we have that type of connection right but know yourself know that Greek life is not your entire life it’s not your entire being it’s not you know everything that you are is more than a tag on your card it’s more than a jacket
It’s one of the key chains more than a lanyard because we love the lyrics it’s more than a stroll it’s more than a stroll it’s more than a party Greek life is a business we are here to help the black community and we’ll definitely Community um
And it’s more than that so if your heart isn’t in helping the black community or help in the community period This is not for you Greek life is not for you we are all centered around one Mission and that’s to help and serve and so if you
Come in the game thinking oh I want to be a Delta because I see they do that love strong I see they be doing that I see they they do this they do no this morning I like the colors I like the color red I want to be a dancer no it’s more than that know yourself know that okay my name is Sally and I’m from Georgia oh Wisconsin ooh over here I’m from Wisconsin and and I know that my aunt is a Delta and the wonderful
Things that she’s done she’s my role model I want to be like that know that it doesn’t start the work does not start when you become adult if you become adults or if you become AKA or if you become a member of Satan Phi Beta if you
Become you know the rest of them it’s it the word starts before then you have to have your community service have your Grace Grace you know that it starts before the interest meeting it starts before College it starts in your heart and so going through college a lot of people
Play just a lot of people start as sophomores but some people start this freshman if you’re starting a freshman girl you got they’re scared of you you’re scared of you but a lot of people start um as sophomores but you can start whenever you’re ready um but knowing yourself and who you are
Is the main thing because it’s very you can get lost yes easy to get vods and easy to get caught up with any foolishness and you just want to know yourself know the morals that you stand on know your character because there are going to be situate or
There could possibly be situations where that could be tested be secure in the person that you are and then also you know it shows if you join for the wrong reasons and it shows yes because it’s very obvious it is very obvious you know you can tell who’s actually active who’s
Actually about their business because you don’t want to you know drop a bag if all you’re going to do is stroll when you’re in college very expensive it’s very expensive a very expensive day just to stroll during college and you don’t want your legacy to be the fact that you
Were a delta in college and that’s really all you did that’s because I know a lot I won’t say a lot but a few people and like oh yeah my mom was a Delta when she was in college Sadly I was about to say like what Reagan said make sure that you do it whatever well try to do it whenever you are ready you have alumni chapters because all of us have to join our nature out there because we made a lifetime commitment and everybody makes
A lifetime commitment to the service in their sorority or fraternity so whenever we say that you’re going to be in a graduate chapter you know of course for your life so other people can be able to join the chapter as well so you might want to wait until you graduate which is
Totally understandable because it’s a lot to balance your school life in Greek life so you might want to wait until you graduate your money not gonna be right a bunch of other things but graduate chapter is always an option because everybody has to be a part of a graduate
Chapter and you might miss some things as a Collegiate but it’s not that deep because it’s the same work and maybe more sometimes yeah yeah because you’re a grown you know you’re adult you were grown you have grown responsible you you you’re it’s more than you know
We have our College days here we have we go talk to the kids or we do you know a few from JC you know the hot spots you know that type of stuff we have pep rallies whatever when you go into your if you’re going to the mommy chapter
Is as soon as you get off of work you’re gonna turn nine to five go to that meeting that’s it you might leave early you might have to do something you know for real is you have fam you have a family you have you know big big boy
Bills to pay so do it when you are ready yeah not just you know trying to be a hot shot in college if if you get it and you you say I don’t I don’t work out it’s okay to take a break it’s okay get your money right get
Your brain right and jump back in the game because it can be a lot it can be a lot this is for us it’s a part-time job now when you become another holiday album when you become a a big adult baby that’s a full-time job but you know
Something that I always say to people who are interested um in joining Greek life just to make sure that their heart is truly in it you want to ask yourself if I’m told no would I be willing to try again yes and if you are willing to try again the
Guess go forth and do it because if you’re if you’re like oh if I don’t get it then I’m done then it’s not for you you need to join a dance team or something please situations where you may be told no say that there’s an event you want to do oh
It’s a no it’s mosquito oh girl oh like I was saying when you’re actually a part of that organization there’s going to be a lot of times that you might be told no like say there’s a there’s a program that you want to do now you
Can’t do it right now or say that there’s a position that you want but your sister gets the position over you so there’s just going to be a lot of situations where you’re going to be told no and we’re going to be told yes so you
Want to make sure that your spirit’s in it before even going forth with it and then also talking back to the you know college life and Greek life yeah being in college in Greek life it’s cool and all but you have to realize college is
Only four years and if you join a Greek organization you’re probably only going to be Greek for two two one for real of those years so you don’t want to get caught up with that whole College thing because you’re still in college for real still have to go to class exactly you
Don’t want to just get caught up with that to the point where you don’t even graduate because you’re always you know in the mix a sister from what spring 18 why are you still here so yeah you want to make sure that you are really you know being about your business because
Especially when you join these organizations people do look up to you and people look at you as an example and if you are going to class and doing what you’re supposed to do that’s good but if you are not it does reflect poorly and not only yourself but
Yeah it makes everybody kind of look like oh because even though now before I was Reagan now people that I didn’t I don’t even know know me as breaking the delta or kid in the delta or lay of the Delta you you are now your letters so it’s like it gets to a
Point where that goes back into knowing yourself knowing that you are more than your letters and you are more than just breaking the Delta you are also breaking the I don’t know whatever whatever you got going on when it comes to loving chapters some people who we look up to
Like our advisors a lot of them were initiated in the Lumi chapter so we have extraordinary members who are part of alumni chat just like half of our advisors are great women who help our chapter and they are initiated in the loving chapters and also like what
Radiance said we have Delta attached to our name going back to our first question about um what do you say foreign whatever try to think about yourself think about your name and how people describe you so people just describe you as um Sarah the girl who’d be coming to the
Cab but how about it all looking a fool talking on speakerphone all the time or um smoking weed all the time oh yeah that Julian art so and so who will be arguing with her man outside and everybody being hearing it or MJ who goes to class and is in clubs or
What’s another name or um so try to think about that and also if you feel like you have bad stuff attention your name try to change it and also if you feel like you have good things to catch your name make sure that you are doing good within those things nobody is perfect
Nobody is perfect we not perfect and whatever mistakes we’ve ever made you have to own up to them and be responsible if anything ever you know oh I remember a year and what about it and if you’re in trouble with the university you can’t even do it yeah
Have a have a good background if baby if you can’t if you can’t reflect and say I’m not in trouble with the university one too many times you haven’t got kicked out yet this is still kind of ugly though so yeah so like you know you can’t get it
Don’t get in trouble with the university because they gonna see if I think it’s gonna be on your transcript and stuff but if you get in trouble for smoking weed in your room or part of your roommate people gonna say please I’ll try to do that because uh
People who look at your transcript for a Greek life a job a scholarship anything they can see that so yeah that’s a part of your brand also
