100% and along those lines um I wanted to ask because you spoke about the arrete foundation and great a network sorry but I do also know that you were part of a sorority yeah if you don’t mind could you could you tell us one more sorority is because you don’t
Really have those over here and to how that what what is done for you and three how that’s developed into what you’re not trying to do so in the States my sorority was founded in 1913 and it’s a sisterhood of of women of color college-educated in you know women in
College you join the sorority you can join the sorority in college or you can join it even after college and your professional or in graduate school so I joined in college and it’s about having women to support each other yeah and you tap into the resource of the Graduate
Women locally who have their chapter professional women who can mentor you but it’s also about community service right about so from a young you know early on you join an organization because oftentimes at you know when I would took when the the engineering school I went to there were 4,000
Students and 400 of them were children or students of color and so you know these organizations you know it’s it’s it’s it was like your home away from home we had you know black business house a black students house that we all hung out at so it was
Your community there and you join these organizations as a sense of community but also the sense of you know giving back to the community as we’re educating and planning for our future all right and so being living here for 14 years and getting to know women and seeing all
These fantastic women and realizing so many people are doing so many things and sometimes doing stuff in the same same same day field or event – the same night just like boy you know wouldn’t it be nice if they were if there were if there
Was more of a connection and and more of you know this fellowship of women coming together and organizing better yeah that’s what that’s what the sorority did for us over there there’s several different sororities and several fraternities usually over there but you’re you’re organized you have a
Network that you tap into and you’re also working together as a community yeah and and so that’s where you know the concept I missed having that I still am a member and I when I’m there I go to things but I can’t be there delivering the programs and stuff because I’m here
And so I missed that that’s always been a part of my life since I was you know in my in my 20s so yeah as rorty’s it’s not would we consider that it could it’s like I don’t know if it’s a mix its gender it’s mixed yes also not it’s not
As formal in terms of like for example now because of the network I’ve got from my like to be honest you’re here because of my ACS Network because I knew someone who knew someone who yeah so we can still kind of tap into that but we don’t really have like the infrastructure the
Same way it sounds like a sorority might have but we don’t for example we don’t have a vent still for former alumni from the ACS to come to or anything like that so we kind of have a bit of it but like I said it’s not really got that
Infrastructure there’s no one kind of managing it it’s more just you made friendships when you were young and if if you are good at keeping them up then do but this is formal there’s regular you know you have monthly chapter meetings programs it’s kind of what
We’re trying to do with the right angle but in a way that you know it’s it’s still organic to here in a way that works here confines in the law of here right these are charitable organizations and so you know we we want to make sure
That we that we keep in line with it being charitable and charitable programs and getting support for the community yeah through leveraging the professional roles that women have in various companies and so forth but it’s you know those organizations were formed because we weren’t allowed to be a part of anything else yeah
Right and so cool huge yeah yeah and you know those women were brave yes are these organizations and so yeah there is this there’s historical significance and tradition involved it is quite formal and there’s you know a national meeting that takes place every other year and
You know things like that so it’s it is quite formal so we’re trying to bring a certain it’s it’s a sisterhood here bringing women together we we were focusing on as I said financial empowerment youth education and mentoring promoting history culture and the arts and also developing leadership
In the community so that you know that’s where mentoring young professionals and and and comes into play and making sure there’s that network where a young person in university has a desire to to be in a certain field yeah let’s find her someone yeah who she can connect
With that can give her advice and have her help her navigate yeah you know through through that process because it’s hard yeah I feel like we don’t take advantage of that as much I could probably speak for myself I don’t feel Cleese takers and I didn’t take advantage of you know getting a
Mentor or really trying to be part of like an organization that empowers women if it doesn’t exist I think there’s a lot of buzz going on so it’s not launched yet then I’m guessing yes we’ve started are you starting yeah and I mean will officially launch very soon we have
Our our first our first charitable program I believe July where the girls network we are taking a hundred girls from disadvantaged backgrounds of color and bringing them to a beautiful girls boarding school outside of lund and providing them with a what we’re calling a life-changing event for the
Day it’s a conference on leadership and life skills and I’m gonna have inspirational speakers and workshops for them on various topics like public speaking fashion trends and dressing for success etiquette nutrition a health and well-being positive self-image and so bringing together all of these fabulous and fantastic women yeah to do that
Volunteer their time and provide this for free and the school is providing the venue at a very discounted rate you know so it’s all coming together this is our first so we want to launch it with that yeah that’s we’re doing cuz that’s our focus right and so we’re
Partnering with the girls network because they have a they’re very well organized and they can provide us with you know the candidates that we’re looking for to be able to and it’s also a way to kind of as we’re launching to communicate you know these are opportunities this is where you can go
To mentor young people yeah all the time you know so yeah we’re really excited about the program and so if anyone like if any of our listeners wanted to find out more about anything yes well we have it’s it’s info at a rate a network.org
And guys it’ll be in the link in the description yeah
