Down into three parts uh chapters 1-8 deal with the prophet Samuel uh chapters 9-15 deal with Saul and we have for the last few weeks been in the chapters 16 through 31 specifically that deal with David so we want to switch now if we could and and go a little further into
This and today my key word is discover somebody shout discover discover discover we will discover how David stays the course if you were with me on Sunday I talked about the importance of staying the course staying the course I told you that ships stay the course even though they navigate around storms from
Time to time uh horses have to stay the course even though they’re on a track and sometimes move in and out of lanes they they they they stay the course and I talked about people who are on perhaps even campaign Trails uh who were fighting a good fight of Faith who were
In the hospital uh trying to fight some type of sickness they stay the course they might want to give up because of the chemo the radiation they may want to give up because of the battles that they fight as member of the Lord’s army on his Battlefield and maybe they’re on a
Campaign Trail trying to get a message out to people that just don’t like them just just even flat out hate them but you stay the course and that’s what we have to do we talked about the importance of that on Sunday and how even people in the church stayed the
Course Jesus Christ stayed the course so David is staying the course and and it’s particularly important that he stays the course today because he’s about to be discovered somebody shout discover discovered discovered he was discovered and after his Discovery he was even Fe feed and hated simply because he was
Anointed and chosen by God so I’m talking to some people today who are anointed and chosen by God and I just want you to know that no matter what the enemy is trying to do to stop you you have to stay the course Amen Brother full love discovered discovered
Discovered let’s go a little further I’m going to talk about two sections in this chapter I’m gonna break it down verses 1-5 and verses 6 through 23 and I’m going to talk about being first of all hold up that’s not a term that you hear quite frequently but hold h o up and
Then I’m going to talk about being cut down uh it’s a phrase or words that describe uh basically being knocked down and I’ll talk about it in just a moment but but let’s just break it down into those two sections first section when someone says I’m being H up they’re
Basically saying I’m remaining in hiding maybe there’s a storm that’s coming maybe there’s uh severe weather inclement weather Maybe maybe there is some threat maybe there’s a a person who should have been incarcerated on the loose or maybe it’s the actual person who’s on the run him or herself who is
Actually being holed up in a location uh Deacon Mitchell I know you’re out there I saw you earlier chairman I know you love golf uh Elder Anthony Jones I know you love golf and a few others out there love it well in golf hold up is basically scoring a hole in one we
Always say a hole in one but but hold up is another way some people in in in in informal terms talk about uh being being in a place where you’ve scored quite well you’ve you’ve hit the ball one time and with that one hit you’ve knocked it
Right into the hole you’ve gone quite a distance that’s that’s scoring a hole or a hole in one or being Hol Up and then you can actually be like those Bears we come only think about them hi hibernating through the winter or someone uh who basically just goes into
Their room and just sleeps for a while we we would call that being H up okay so as we go into 1st Samuel 22 I I want to focus on this part particularly about remaining in hiding well our characters today you know when we have a Sunday
School lesson we always talk about the characters we talk about the Hebrew and the Greek as well good morning mother PL good to see you uh we we want to talk about first of all the character whose name is David and of course he’s a real
Person you know this of course but but we want to talk about David we want to talk about who he is and and what he’s done so David is actually the youngest son of Jesse and he’s the one that’s going to be anointed king in the place
Of Saul so as we go into our lesson even further today we’re going to find that David even though he’s anointed he’s appointed he’s hated why because his boss his father-in-law the one who’s sitting in the seat the throne is King the one who’s rejected by God the one
Who has an evil spirit that David Act helps to move away from Saul or to chase away is actually in a place good morning Apostle Cardinal Jones good to see you good morning Reverend Garner good to see you as well this David’s in a place
Where he’s in a cave a mar experience a cavern because basically he’s having to run away we’re in 1st Samuel 22 again for those of you that just joined me and we’re going to talk about David not only being in a cave but specifically a cave
Name adong adong it means Justice of the people it’s a cave in the Hill Country of the Southern Kingdom of Judah and is actually near the Philistine border it’s right near the place called philistia a place in Palestine and we’re going to see how that plays out in just a moment
Him being in a cave but we’re also going to talk about mitzpah mitzpah mitzpah is a place that David’s going to run off to for a little while with his his his intentions of taking care of his family and then we’re going to hear about Moab
We we we always refer to it when we’re talking about usually lot but uh Moab is actually a place that some of you will recall means of his father or from her F her the mother’s father uh it’s an incestous relationship that I won’t go
Into a lot today but you know the story well when lot and his wife were exiting out of Sodom and Gomorrah I’ll just put them together as twin s sister cities uh with their their daughters behind and toe we know that God spared them of course uh Lot’s wife was told not to
Look back none of them were to look back she looked back turning to a pillar of salt so basically you have out of this whole city one man fleeing away one man escaping other than the Angels other than those who left out earlier and and
His two daughters uh we know that it was actually in a cave like setting if you would uh a a a place where they were hold up where they were fearing what would have happened to them had they been back in the city that that that for whatever reason lot finds himself uh
Intoxicated he is he is he is not in a position where he’s thinking clearly even uh coherently able to speak or talk he’s out of it his daughters engage in activities with him long story short to keep it TVG there were Sons born from those unions those activities which were
Of course bad and wrong incestuous relationships uh incestuous relations uh I’ll just say it that way that resulted in what we now know one of the one of the people that we describe Moab being birth being being in the picture today so Moab as we speak of it
Today is a place but we’ve heard about the moabites so without me going into great detail there just want to again get you back into the frame of mind of 1 Samuel 22 and tell you where we’re going uh we’re also going to hear about a prophet today a prophet today his name
Is look it looks like Gad like like the brothers of of Joseph uh you know he had one name Gad but we always say Gad but it’s God it’s almost like some of you who like to say man of God or woman of God you try to be deep with it right but
God GD is the way it’s actually uh pronounced and in this case it’s a prophet that we’re going to learn about in the text today we’re also going to hear about a place called kth uh some might say chth but kth is a Thicket in Palestine and we’re going to learn more
About it so let’s go into the word very quickly I’m not going to read all of the verses like I normally do I’m just going to read a few today and if you look down at your Bibles with me I want to read 1st Samuel 22 out of my Bible here uh
And basically David therefore departed then and he escaped to the cave of adulam and when his brother and all his father’s house heard it they went down with him and everyone that was in distress and everyone that was in debt and everyone that was discontented gathered themselves unto him and he
Became a captain over them and there there were about 400 men verse three going a little further and David sent this to mispah of Moab and he said unto the king of Moab let my father and my mother I pray thee come forth and be
With you till I know what God will do for me verse four and he brought them before the king of Moab and they dwelt with him all the while David was in the hold lastly I’m going to read verse five if I can and what we see there verse
Five and the prophet Gad or God said unto David abide not in theole depart and get thee into the land of udah and David departed and came into the forest of kth all right so let’s go a little further into this lesson and as I quickly try to move through it let me
Remind you that David is hold up he’s remaining in hiding well this week uh Begins for us severe weather preparedness I’ve heard several sirines today I know those are just probably for testing purposes uh that I’ve heard them going off today as some of you here on
Tuesdays perhaps in your city but we need to know how to be weather aware so that when we’re hold up ourselves that we have what we need the batteries the flashlight the radios the first aid kits and everything that we need to make sure that we’re properly protected maybe even
Proper PPE protective personal protective equipment for those of you who may even be at work right now and in this section David is in himself not because of bad weather but because there’s a hater because his boss his father-in-law hates him he’s now on the
Run hold up and he’s even in a place where he’s running away from the Philistines remember last week I told you David was running away from his father-in-law his wife da uh Saul’s daughter actually helped him to escape her name was mall and mik helped him to
Get away uh if you jump a few chapters back we actually see what happened in the last chapter David was on a run he wounds up in the place where Akim melik the priest is and he actually ask for something to eat and something to protect himself with aimik provides him
With victuals or or Provisions we call it the showbread uh that Holy bread that the priest would set out he proved that he could actually receive it of course we talked about Jesus making reference to this particular scene in the Bible and how Jesus basically approved it for
That particular time and what took place but that aside we know that David also uh would require the sword that was there the sword of David so he’s on the run but for some reason he decides to run right into the hometown gath the hometown of gol Goliath Goliath is how we pronounce
It and gath as we said was where this giant was born the very giant that David took down slew in battle with just a slingshot and a smooth Rock David We Believe ran there because he thought of all places to look for him Saul would never
Go to gath but we find out that even when David arrived there his reputation was preceding him ahead of him and they were already reminded that not only did you take down our giant our big leader the big person whose name was goath no you are the one that the people sing
About whereas Saul has slain his thousands David you’re the one who slain tens of thousands and you want to stay here and you’ve defeated us a few times no I don’t think so so David plays like he’s mad he has spittle running all down his face he’s scratching on the doors
And I talked about the significance of all that relative to the Psalms and even in this particular chapter we believe there are a number of uh Psalms that were written specifically about this particular time in his in his life in in in Biblical history I’ll get to that in
A minute but the point is David is running not only from Saul but he’s also running from the Philistines again all right so this place of Injustice is where David is and if you would uh let me let me just pause and say he runs to a cave that means justice but he’s
Unjustly feeling like he’s being attacked David is trying to run away and be alone but his parents his brothers his friends are all following him even 400 men who were as I’ll call it for now broke busted and disgusted even followed him somewhere let me pause here for a
Moment and just say you know what you have an anointing on your life when people stick with you even when they know things look like they’re not going to work out for your good I want to thank everybody that’s ever worked with me been a part of a team that I’ve
Served on that that I’ve LED been a part of a a journey that I’ve had to take and you walk with me even when you knew it looked like a losing battle you walked with me when you knew I didn’t have a chance of winning you walked with me
When it looked like I had had no money that I had no opportunity and that God wasn’t even going to make a way out of no way but God is faithful and even when it looks like we don’t make it we lose we we fall by the wayside God has a way
Of picking us up and making us more than conquerors so the anointing on David’s life was such that his mom his dad his brothers that laughed at him before picked at him for being the youngest and not able to fight all of these people are there all of these people who owe
People money all these people who are mentally in anguish all of these people who are pressed they’re in a place where they’re following David let me just say this when you find yourself not talking about me but when you find yourself a good leader when you find someone who is
Truly a person who’s a man or a woman after God’s Own Heart don’t give up on them quickly make sure you do everything you can to stick by them to pray for them and even when they find themselves in cases of Injustice when they find themselves in caves of adulam stick with
Them pray with them you know what when David came out of this David became one of the most celebrated Kings of Judah and even Israel one of the most celebrated kings in the Bible so let’s make sure that we do all we can do not
To throw people out not to we talk about the cancel culture somebody says one bad thing we throw them away somebody does one bad thing we want to walk away from him no we all make mistakes the Bible says all have sinned and come short of
The glory of God even David messed up after he became king but God still loved him and he loved God so we have to stick with good people and believe in them if you’re a parent believe in your children yesterday somebody was convicted or at least sentenced uh found guilty is the
Proper terminology on multiple counts because they had a child that took some action that sadly took people’s lives the parent was held responsible so parents if you if you have children speak to them Speak Life to them believe in them get to know what they’re doing uh work alongside with them young people
Those of you who have parents uh talk to my parents today uh those of you who have parents love on them uh uh take care of them in this particular lesson when you go back and read 1 Samuel 22 you’re gonna find that even David’s parents who likely were senior citizens
They even followed David to the cave now we don’t know if they were being threatened by Saul we don’t know that but all we know is that they trusted in their son’s leadership enough that they followed I thank God for my father and my mother even though they’re my mentors
Even though they’re the smartest people I know the the most anointed people the greatest servant leaders I’ve ever served with I love them dearly uh they they they join us on our Bible study lines they come and watch our services on Sunday after they attend their church
Services so we thank God for them good morning to you Minister blue good to see you today as well let’s go a little further I’ve in 1st Samuel 22 for those of you who just joining us just want to make sure you know we are 1st Samuel 22
David was joined not only by his parents his his brothers but I told you people who were distressed in debt and discontented the fact that they were distressed discontented in this place where they are where they’re being pushed they’re physically financially and mentally in places a tight spot owe
People money and they’re in a place where they’re just bitter they’re angry they’re disheartened probably because of their situation or something that’s not going right in their life but even then David is going to be a tremendous blessing to them even when David probably felt like he was rejected
Scared and alone all by himself maybe he was in one of those moments where he was introverted and wanted to recharge by himself maybe he was one of those plac where he felt overly stimulated overly sensitive in a place where no one should speak to him touch him he didn’t want
Anybody breae in his Direction just wanted to be by himself to just let Lord speak to him or by himself to sort his his own mental capacities or his own mental Fitness out get things together for him so he was mentally fit but yet people followed him and you know what
They did they ended up making him Captain even while he was in the stronghold even when he had reasons to fear for his own life he put himself in further Harm’s Way it’s easier to hide when you’re one person but when you have 400 plus people with you it’s not so
Easy are you are you getting me today David could not make the cave his resting place my word to some of you today is even though you’ve been in hiding through the pandemic even though you’ve gone through being Hol Up because you found it comfortable not coming to
Church not being out in public because you found out from 2019 through 2023 you just did better when you’re by yourself you might not need anybody else I’m inviting you to come out of the hold because sometimes we think we’re okay when we’re by ourselves and and we
Realize later on that that that we need other people uh yes I thank God that we can all be dependent uh when we come out and and somebody’s there to take care of us mention my parents earlier thank God for them taking care of me even after I
Put my mother through two days labor I was supposed to be born on July 4th didn’t come out to July 6th uh there is my mother was in labor two days y’all pray for her I tell you that every time my birthday rolls around pray for her
But my mother and father uh still yet stick with me they are still always with me parents here let me jump for just a second back David took care of his parents he was in a hole but he could not stay in that place he had to get up
He had to take care of his parents his brothers everybody else I’m skipping for a minute no I’m losing that thought I’m come back to in just a moment sometimes it’s easy for us to say to ourselves I’m gonna take care of me I’m gonna do me
But David was so concerned about his parents the people who loved him from birth that he even leaves the cave heads to Moab heads to mitzpah and tries to ask the king of Moab who would have been a distant relative of his great grandmother at least probably a little
Bit higher than that because you remember who who Ruth was Ruth was a moabitas who married Boaz they had a child that child had a child and a child and a child and that’s how we get to Jesse and then David all right so we’re talking up the family tree we’re back in
Moabit country M back with the moabit people if you would even though technically Ruth moved back into Israelite territory she was a moabi before she became an is Israelites so David went back to the people of his his maternal grandmother’s side if you would and said please take care of my parents
Please watch out for them and they did so that’s a good thing all right but the hold point I’m going back to means to be in a place where you’re in a net where you’re captured where you’re held fast where you feel defenseless where you feel like you’ve been hunted and
Even trapped some of us have been in holds but I want to call you out of the ho today I want to called you out of anything that has tried to trap you and keep you from going where you need to go you need to come out of the hold you
Need to you need to recognize that God has something great for you even though you may have to walk through the valleys of the Shadows of death you fear no evil God has some quiet strains for you God has some Green Pastures for you God has
Some places he wants to bless you with so we need to trust God amen amen are you still with me if you’re with me say amen you all got quiet on me for the last five minutes or so uh anybody out there I hope you are hope you can still

Today I’ve been saying Saul but I told you before sha is his name he’s the king and he’s actually accompanied by Doe I talked about him last week he is the one who is in the presence of aimik the priest last week when David showed up
Looking for a sword looking for bread if you would but there is a priest we’re going to learn about one of the sons of aimik and his name is as you see here abathar we call him abiathar uh we’re going to see here in just a moment in
1st Samuel 22 and6 these words I’m only going to read the first and last I’m gonna act like I’m in the Baptist Church where we talk about coming to a church on 1 and third third or second and fourth when we singing we’re going to do first and last stanas only I’m only
Going to do the first and the last for this section because I’m almost out of time where I want to be today 1st Samuel 22 and6 when Saul heard that David was discovered and the men that were with him now Saul Abode in giba under a tree
In Remar having his spear in his hand and all his servants were standing basically around him I’m going to skip and just say Saul becomes upset he sees or discovers David somebody tells him where David is the word discovered means to know it means to recognize to become acquainted with to comprehend to
Understand to have knowledge of it means that you’re in a place where you’ve made yourself known or somebody’s come to know who you are they’re perceiving you you have a perception of about something a full understanding of what something is you can discover gold you can discover land you can discover people’s
Talents but in this case we’re going to see that sha Saul is going to discover David geographically but there’s something about that word something about that word amen let me let me make sure you all are still with me God bless you I see a a governor a future governor
On the line amen you can see and hear me Governor flowers uh good to see you ma’am thank God for you 1st Samuel 22 and6 when Saul heard that David was discovered the men that were with him all around him he had a lot of people
That are in his presence but he’s just concerned about one man one person that he wants to get his eyes on in this second section of 1 Samuel 22 we find out what happened when Saul discovered David when Saul discovered David it was really first of all when he slew Goliath
He also discovered David was a mighty warrior at that time he discovered later on that David was a worshipper he discovered that David was someone who could do more than knock down Giants but spiritually when he was being oppressed by evil spirits David could take care of
Him yet Saul is anxious to cut David down especially when he discovers listen to these two things even while David is in a hole his favor is increasing and his number of followers keeps climbing up I want to speak to some of you today because some of you may feel like you’re
In the hole maybe you feel broke busted and disgusted maybe you feel like you’re in a place where you’re in debt you’re distressed and you’re discontented maybe you feel like you’re on the run from a sha a Saul or or maybe an aish or the Philistines maybe you feel like you’re
Trying to run away from some creditors some loone Shar maybe you’re trying to get away from people who don’t like you want to take you out whoever you are I I want to speak to you watch what happens to David may this happen to you even
When you feel that you are by yourself no one likes you and you’re all alone all by yourself may God’s favor follow you may your favor increase in such a way that people recognize his hand on your life even when you think you’re just hiding out in a cave may your
Followers climb May the number of people watching you in a good way following you on Facebook following you on Twitter following you to church following you as you do the work of the ministry becoming that Meals on Wheels becoming the PE who helps to pass out the place that that
