Some that might be freshmen to sophomores to Juniors to seniors where exactly you want to be and they’re going to engage with you and talk to you about finding your Club finding your organization and so I’m your moderator for the evening I am Michael gum current director of admissions at Morehouse
College we are excited to have Mr Mr Devin Bale who is our business ad uh business management major senior class of 2024 Mr rayquan Clemens psychology religion double major and he’s going to talk about the organization that he’s associated with and the club he’s he’s assigned to to Mr
Marcelus McQueen who’s an educational Studies major communication studies minor sophomore class of 2026 to Mr Colin Royal English and journalism double major economics major junior class of 2025 and last but urly not least uh Mr Johnny Simmons education Studies major sophomore class of 2026 so to get started uh we’re going to
Kind of have a little bit of a conversation about morehous um and so I definitely want our speakers to engage with us at this point as we kind of discuss what is morouse and the culture and so we can start off really simply uh with saying that morous for over 150
Years has had a mission and a purpose to serve predominately African-American men to get them to places they never seen before and in this Focus as we celebrate founders day which is coming very soon in the founding a Mor house College February the 14th we find this mission
Of guys Desiring to be in a space in a place where the focus is to develop men with disciplined Minds to would lead lives of leadership and Service as the nation’s own historically black college and university predominantly again for African-American men that serves that liberal arts focus and so with that I
Wanted to uh allow us to have a conversation here and so U marcelus uh Colin others of the platform you know let’s talk a little bit about this culture at Morehouse College what is what is Morehouse to you and what is this Brotherhood so we’ll start off with
You marcelus and then we’ll go to k um hi everybody um again I’m marcelis so what is the Morehouse culture to me morouse is essentially the place to be if you really want to cultivate your mind and understand the true meaning of Liberation and what it means to be
Liberated uh more house gives me all the tools and the skills necessary to go into this world and not just be excellent of what I do but have a purpose for it as well yes Colin yeah I just want to expound upon my brother’s Point um I think more house is a perfect
Intersection between social and intellectual engagement um it’s a place where you can develop not only as a person but as as as a scholar as as a man and as a as a contributing member of uh Society yes and rayquan um I believe that morouse is a
Place to cultivate what’s already in you um we have a saying here at Morehouse that when you show up um you show up in hopes of growing into the crown that mother morous holds over your head um and morous does just that every day it challenges you to be better than what
You were yesterday um and it’s not in competition with your brother but we are competing to be better than ourselves the day before love that Devin yeah uh kind of building off what ran said um for me morouse is the place where I learned how
To compete and be the best um you know not not not to say you’re competing against your brothers but they’re going to push you to be great um and that’s some that is kind of needed in any space throughout this world and then for me um
Mor is also the place where I’ve met my best friends and my my true brothers so um it’s definitely a community to be a part of and and you’ll kind of learn more as you’re hear tonight awesome and Johnny um my brothers have said it all
Um I’m going to speak more so up to the family aspect of morous because when you come many of us come from a single um well we’re the only child um and that’s my case well I’m not technically only child but me and my brother 15 years
Apart so I could say consider myself to be the only child um so with that being said with me being the only child inside the house and then you come into a space a shared space um a community you then begin to evolve um more house challenge
You to develop not only as a man but to develop as a better human because they we they challenge you Mo emotionally spiritually and also mentally and then you have those Brothers around that can help cultivate the person that you hope to become in the future um that’s the
Culture that I see at more and I want to say that my brother did a well job of explaining that as well but that’s my sentiments on the cach morehous college see why this session is so important this is like amazing guys thank you as we continue we’re going to move into these
Uh clubs and categories right so we have over 50 student organizations that help students develop themselves that allow them to intally find their passion and then through the political intellectual and and athletic cultural and art artistic Pursuits they find themselves being associated with amazing organizations so as perspective students
Parents you might wonder what is the social life what is it like well one we tell our students to get involved that’s first and as a freshman you have that ability to do so and so here are some of the recognized student organizations that we have um we have an academic
Pre-professional program and an organization there we have categories that are associated with the artistic and the creative of course some that are through the cultural aspects of the institution and they’ll talk some through some of these um we have our fraternal organizations that you could become a part of of course honorary
Programs you could be a part of service and social justice very important uh organizations that you could be a part of special interest right like ban and glee club and and those alike and then sport clubs right so of course the sport are available right so like sports like
Polo and golf and Lacrosse opportunities for you to be able to be informed of so clubs covered in this session that we’re going to specifically talk about is of course sgaa the morous college student government Association Howard Thurman honors program and Association the morouse college student ambassador program how’s under the admissions
Office the residential hall Association so what does it mean to be an RA uh what does that mean to lead in in sessions and S of such the maroon tiger those who literally write for the morehous magazine for the college the MLK International Chapel what does it mean
To be a chapel assistant right and then of course Kasa the campus Alliance for Student Activities similar to sja but definitely different we’re going to expound on these clubs that are going to be covered in this session by students just like you so first without further Ado we have
The first person who’s going to talk to us about St Student Government Association and that is Mr rayquan Clemens rayquan you ready for us yes sir I am take it away brother hello once again to my perspective Brothers to your families um to everyone who thought it
Not Roberty join us on tonight um I’m going to be talking to you guys about Morehouse College SGA right um and so Morehouse College SGA stands for the student government Association um which is the official entity in the college’s uh governmental structure right um essentially sgaa is what student
Leadership looks like from a base level model right um and so I have the privilege on our Student Government Association as serving as this year’s SGA chaplain right and so we have three different branches of this particular organization we have the executive branch which is our president um our
Vice president the Chief Justice G chief justice which really upholds the Name of morehous college um they enforce the Constitution they make sure that everything stays in order for us um and so we have um president and VI president vice president and chief justice for the entire college and then also under the
Branch of sgaa we also have class positions right so you can be a freshman class president you can be a freshman class vice president you can be a freshman class Senator you can be a freshman’s uh class chief justice um also within that we have the legislative
Branch which is um the student Senate which approves and denies budget proposals it uh chairs the elections committees so you can be on these boards um even as a freshman we have these positions open so we have a freshman class Senator we have a freshman class
Senator at large and so it runs just like um the US uh judicial branch essentially right um also we have the judicial branch um honor and conduct uh review board for the SGA which uh hears and educates money they give out um student conduct they hold hearings for
Students that may have had um issues going on on campus and things like that um and they do it’s basically uh checks and balances of the college they lead us and they do Keep Us Alive sgaa honestly essentially oh sorry about that SJ honestly essentially is one of the organizations
That I say it’s very important to look into even if coming in I’m right out the gate you think it’s something that would be too much for you I always recommend that any freshman coming into morous college looks into SGA um because that is usually what the face of student leadership looks
Like all right also I have the privilege of being um a Martin Luther King International Chapel assistant right um so this year on the Chapel’s eboard I serve as the Outreach in evangelism co-chair with my chairs from Spellman College and Clark Atlanta University the Martin Luther King International Chapel assistance
Program is one of the most prominent programs in all of the world it is a international ecumenical space for faith-based believers right and so we have birthed out prominent preachers like ma Bryant e Dy Smith Mark Moore Reginal sharp all different kinds of preachers different Faith Believers and
Faith leaders from all over the world if you are interested in going into a doctorate program that is faith based if you’re interested in getting your mdiv or anything like that this is the program for you even if you’re not interested in being a per se preacher or
Going into getting your mdiv or your doctorates of divinity you can still come into this program because we are multi-faith based it’s for all religions I mean if you are Buddhist if you are Muslim anything under the sun we believe it here and we are allowed to explore our different religious Curiosities this
Is the world’s most prominent uh religious Memorial to none other than our alumnist Reverend Dr Martin Luther King Jr this is housed in one of the most expensive edifices on the entire Mor house college campus recently there was a $1 million campaign out for this space to be renovated and redone you
Can’t really see it um because of how my background is but I am sitting in the Martin Luther King International Chapel right this second it holds and it can house at any given time about 5,000 people for any particular event um through trans uh transformative moral cosmetol and programs we forg a space
That is safe for many different faiths and Believers to come and be alike all right and so the third and final organization that I am a part of I Am the President of the pre- Alumni Association here at morouse College the pre- Alumni Association is the oldest
Organization at well one of the oldest organizations at morouse college and in our Heyday we were one of the largest organizations at Morehouse College this organization has just been recharted and reint roduced to the morous college campus we believe in forming Bridges between alumni and students currently matriculating through the college so
That we can begin to build relationships um I always have conversations with even my mentors who are alumni of the college who tell me that my net worth will always be my network and so we believe in networking opportunities we go to conferences every year to develop relationships with other institutions
All across the world right um even coming up this February on the 20th we’ll be flown out um to Jacksonville Florida for the national pre alumni Council um conference where we would get to have conversations that are relevant to what we do here at Morehouse with our alumni
Organization all right and at this point we’re g to bring on Mr marcelus McQueen who’s going to discuss the Howard Thurman honors program as well as the aming student ambassador organization marcelus yes hi everyone again my name is Marcel and queen and today we’re gonna talk about two of the best in my
Opinion the best rsos in programs that are on warehouses campus the first one is the Howard th honest program right the morous honest um college program is essentially Empower students through stimulating learning environment to achieve their maximum potential and Excel and academics leadership service and Global awareness so essentially if
You get into morous college you can apply to be a part of the Howard th honors program where you’ll take honors level courses at the institution of course the courses a little bit more rigorous that’s because of the honors court that you receive e once you graduate but it’s also like a
Brotherhood within the Brotherhood essentially now just like the program we have an association as well this Association is called the morous college Howard Thurman honors program Student Association where I serve as the president and this organization is chared on the campus of morous it helps develop members academic and social potential through leadership
Responsibility decision- making and organizational planning we also help support you bridge the connection and the Gap with the other Au honors students so Clark land University Morris Brown Spellman College all of the honor colleges we all kind of collab together to build a network with these ters to actually build you know connections
Essentially um we have a long roster of courses that you will take as on our honors program and you’ll register for those courses when you come into the to the college and we just kind of help with the mentorship the guidance and all that as well um yeah now the student ambassador
Program yes um so student ambassadors uh program is is one again one of the best programs in the world it’s probably one of the best roles or jobs that any student can hold on this campus um so the student Bas program is housed under the office of admissions so if you ever
Come to morous college in the sou for tour you will see any of us as student ambassadors we have six of you on the team and we all there support you MVP weekend uh or open house you’ll see us we’re always on hands on De so the vision um for an ambassador become
Ambassador distinction recognized for our unwavering commitment to upholding the Legacy and values of morouse college we are aspire to empower ambassadors to become global leaders fostering a culture of inclusivity academic excellence and impactful engagement together we aim to amplify the ethos of Brotherhood service and Leadership leaving an Indi mark on whom we
Encounter um to cultivate and our mission again is to cultivate a group of distinguished representative iding the core values of morav college committed to Excellence leadership and inclusivity through service professionalism and unwavering dedication we aim to Foster meaningful connection share the rich Heritage of more house and Inspire positive change
Within our community and Beyond um so I serve as the student ambassador coordinator um and we work literally Monday through Friday sometimes Monday through Sunday andly just making sure that we help Brothers like you get to the Finish Mark of applying to morous college um we do many different events
Johnny’s also a student ambassador like we we we’re here we do we’re here for you um we do it because we care we do it because we love morous and we’re also the walking Encyclopedia of morehous college we can just spit facts all day every fact that you didn’t even know um
But it’s one of the best programs that you could be a part of um and so if you are seriously interested in learning about leadership opportunities public speaking or just how to just you know take control of the tour more house college student bath program is the way to
Go awesome and Johnny I know you’re a member of student ambassador organization as well so if you could kind of also talk uh to this RHA piece as well as that okay um no problem but first I want to say like well well done marcelus this
You know we we be working we be in the fields working day in day out um but to speak to the student ambassador peace real quick before I talk about r i want to say the student ambassador program literally if we if we don’t give a great
Tour we affect your decision on morouse College um so I want to say the work that we do is tily because we’re in meetings and we’re having these conversations to figure out innovative ways to showcase the history of the college um I do want to say being a
Student ambassador to when you when you give a great tour and you see those um young men who come on your tour when you see them during NSO week it puts a smile on your face because that just shows you the work that you put in at work the
Information and knowledge that you knew about your institution at worked um being inated throughout your tour it worked um so I want to say being a student ambassador is one of the greatest um organizations that I could be that I’m a part of only because we
Help shape the face of the college we help shape the future of the college by doing um those tours so but I wouldn’t say too my brother Marcel has been doing a great job um with ensuring that we have um the number of people that we as for our student ambassadors to ensure
That we create an experience for you you um come to morous college um so I have the honor and privilege to serve as um also on the executive board for the residential hall Association um and RHA molds the student experience as a freshman um we’re one of the first
Organizations that that you get introduced to as far as student leadership so the morous college residents of H ass assciation seeks to rep to represent the residential student body of morouse college to protect the rights of residents object objectively and to provide a voice for the concerns of our residents we strive
To achieve this by assisting with Hall counsels publicity publicity legislation and funding um to speak on the hall counsil piece as I serve as a residential hall councel when you come into your freshman hall or house um you receive you will hear from me or from someone from RHA who would then have
Informationals and in the residential hall Council there’s five positions you have the you have the president the vice president the secretary treasur the director of public relations um while we’re on this call I do want to acknowledge um Brazil Hall president rco Clemens as he served as president last
Year Brazil Hall um and I served as vice president de Boyce Hall last year and in our roles we had the opportunity to create a freshman experience um you had the opportunity to plan events um and one of the biggest events that we had a
Part of AR Arch a and rhc was the um rhc cookout and in that we had a big family gathering where all freshman Halls came together and we had a dunk tank where you got a chance to dunk your favorite um council member or your favorite scroll member um it’s just a experience
That you have and also another part of RHA we do voice concerns so if you have a concern about something that’s happening in residential hall I will I work closely with Maron maybon who’s the Secretary of Campus operations um but there’s an issue where something’s going
On the hall me and him will have that conversation and we will rectify the issue for you so essentially RH RHA and also SGA do work hand in hand to ensure that the needs of our students are met um and as far as publicity if you follow
DH page you will see um the events that we’re hosting and the events that we’re having to create that housing experience for you all as well because we don’t believe in having dorms and that’s one thing we’ll tell you on the trip on your tour um because the word dilia means
Sleep and you just don’t sleep when you get into your residential Halls um you bond with your brothers um you have events with your brothers and you create the experiences with your brothers um so that’s my piece on the residential hall Association excellent excellent excellent we’re going to go ahead and
Move along um with Colin can you talk to us about the maroon tiger I’ll be happy to uh greetings my name is Colin Royal Junior English and journal from double major economics minor from Rich Virginia uh and I currently serve as the managing editor of print for the Maron tiger is
One of three uh management positions for our campus paper um at a bar basic level um the Rune tiger serves as the organ of student expression since 1898 we’re one of the oldest uh student-led organizations on campus um we operate primarily in two spheres uh the textual and digital media space I’m primarily
Over Tech so I manage our staff of 50 writers we employ right now um 14 of which are eboard management positions um and um my colleague Colin Washington he manages our team of visual media professionals so whether that’s podcasting um photography videography we do that all um and there’s a space for
Every manner of student expression we even have a cartoonist his name is Kamari his work is on our page as well um but we’re really like I said we’re really an organization committed to free of student expression and engagement um and I think what makes Mt very special
Compared to other rsos and other rsos do this as well but um we’re really focused on you developing as a writer as a journalist but as a person as well so um we have people that are majors in BIO majors in political science majors in computer science even like come into Mt
And they just want to write they just want to learn how to how to write they want to learn how to express themselves in a medium that they haven’t done so before um and we give them an opportunity to do so we give them opportunity to grow to develop um to
Explore things that they might not get a chance to explore within their own Fields um but what’s also great about Mt is uh we have two amazing mentors uh Craig Brown and Ron Thomas um they serve as our advisers for the organization and they help us with opportunities outside
Of college as well so not only are you doing work and putting in work as a journalist on campus for the school for the institution um but you also have that opportunity to get published elsewhere so a lot of my colleagues and even myself we’ve been published in other papers uh the editorinchief
Current editor and- Chief from run tiger he’s been published in the Atlanta Journal Constitution AJC which is one of the biggest Camp uh biggest papers in Georgia uh period outside of a campus this is an actual real life publication um he has also got an opportunity to
Work for NBA teams as many of our staff members have he worked with the Boston Celtics um we had a couple guys go to the allstar game and do All-Star media coverage um myself I’ve worked as a financial journalist um for Dow Jones um working for papers like the Wall Street
Journal uh Barons and uh market watch so we have plenty of opportunities both in and outside of the college for Mt and um we’re very committed to not only your expression but your growth and I feel like that’s what uh really sets us apart right thank you for that Colin and of
Course Devin if you can talk to us about this organization known as campus Alliance for Student Activities Casa yes sir uh definitely the best Oregon Campus U my name is Devin Bell I’m a senior graduating senior from pasia California and I serve as a senior co-chair for
Casa um so last year I was a junior co-chair as well and as a co-chair you’re kind of just in charge of anything so when you hear Kasa a lot of people’s first thought is homecoming um and also hump Wednesdays I’m sure my brother’s can attest to that um so you
We’re we’re in charge of picking the artists creating the marketing plans creating the Flyers um working through the budgets finding corporate sponsors so kind of wanted to start off touching on networking opportunities um last year we had corporate Partnerships with Pandora YouTube um I’m trying to think
Amazon music um and many others that have kind of helped our students translate their work with Casa into the work field so last year the person who’s in my seat now works at creative artist agency as a music agent um which is one of the biggest agencies in the business
Um I will be working at William Morris Endeavor after graduation also in entertainment um so if you’re interested kind of in entertainment music even Sports kind of this is definitely a place to Kind of Perfect your marketing skills or even work on your portfolio um we have a lot of students who are
Videographers photographers um that have been able to kind of get their work published we have um our current videographer has been able to um do some video work for little baby through Casa um and get his kind of work published and seen through seen by other artists
And he’s kind of you know growing his career as he goes on um and a big thing for us this past these past few years have been to create internship pipelines and job pipelines like I touched on before um I’ll be working at at a partner company William Morris um the
Past co-chairs and a couple of other board members are working at Capital Records we have some students currently who are interns um with a Universal Music Group um where they’ve been able to kind of create those relationships to help Kasa and then also help themselves um as they
Kind of want to advance their careers in entertainment and music um so if you’re interested in Casa your first step will be to join element which is kind of our internship program um and it’s also a great way to meet freshmen who maybe have similar interests or completely
Different um as you kind of so it’ll be like 40 students um for the first semester you’ll you’ll help out with everything that we do as Costa you kind of get to learn from the older board members see if this is something that you’re truly interested in and then
You’ll apply for the Kasa apps program um where we allow you to throw your own event um so you got we’ll give you kind of a layout of what that kind of the steps you need to take to kind of work through the college but then you know
We’ll give you full autonomy to um figure out an engaging event for the student community that kind of you know brings out your personality um and also uh creates an environment that students are engaged with so yeah awesome and so we come to the our favorite part um you know this is the
Opportunity where you get a chance to ask questions and we want these questions okay we need we need responses we have answers so um I have one I’m just gonna throw it out there um Devin uh I think something really cool was was actually having Drake as a uh as a
Performer artist that actually came during homecoming uh can you just talk about how that went down because I know Kasa was able to make that happen yeah so uh last year uh kind of the artist that we were targeting was 21 Savage um was able to work that out
Through our promoter who we we have great relationships with um and it just happened to be at the same time as honestly never mind album and it just timed up perfectly so uh we knew probably about a week before somehow it didn’t get out until the day of um so
That’s kind of the cool part about being a cost you get to kind of learn about all that stuff before it happens um this year we had a little Durk in the past we’ve had Travis Scott um gunana Young Thug just kind of any artist you can
Name the Amigos were here like seven eight years ago so um another thing that KAS kind of Pride itself on is kind of finding Talent before uh it kind of comes mainstream so um like Ray Sher was here when when they were you know on their first single so kind of finding
Those artists and being able to also convey that to employers like hey I have an eye for talent or have an ear for talent um it’s something that you know I’ve tried to really take advantage of um and I I want my counterparts to take advantage of it as well so
Yeah awesome Devin appreciate it um we have questions coming in um a question on the floor is if I want to go into politics after I graduate other than DHA what other things should I get involved in is there a debate team other suggestions so rayquan I’m sure you can
Kind of hint to that Colin I think that kind of covers a little bit of what you talked about um and the brothers anybody uh after follow me all right so to answer your question brother yes there is a debate team and we also have a pre-law um uh Association where you’re
Allowed to Shadow and I think you get a mentor um in that organization of someone who’s already in the field of law that will walk you through the step-by-step process and work with you um through matriculating through morouse and as well as applying to grad schools
And um taking the test to get into law school and all those good things but we do have a debate team as well which is very good I think you’re doing absolutely add my bad my bad but uh in addition to what Wan said um we also do have a Mot
Court team as well um you can join M Court uh I’m not sure when I think it’s upper level course but um we do have a motore team and then in addition to that Mt we do a lot of political work as well so we cover a lot of rallies we cover a
Lot of um demonstrations we cover elections both in and outside of the college so um we do a lot of work in politics for politics um covering that field so if you want to do it from an outside lens looking in that’s an option too but if you want a more Hands-On
Approach I definitely recommend uh the organizations rayquan mention and then also boot Court um yeah and also just to add on top of what my brothers already stated if you want to get a deeper dive into politics we also have the uh morous dims which is an R that we have on
Campus where um it’s really geared to focusing on the Democratic party and um what beliefs and vies that they hold but we also have the pre-law um track here at the college and then the law fraternity um so these are all amazing opportunities that you can get a hold of
If you are interested about deep deepening your knowledge about the law in politics um that’s all possible I would say if you have any questions about anything regarding uh political science law you you should really pass those along to either um Dr Platt he is department chair for the political
Science department or um Miss Adrian Jones she is the uh the advisor for the um uh pre-law and uh fraternity as well awesome and we’re going to stay right there um is there an active NAACP College chapter we do have one on campus all right Perfect all right so we have
Another question and this one goes to sort of what incoming freshmen are kind of dealing with as an incoming freshman this is the first I’ve heard of a pre- Alumni Association uhoh they said do you have more information how can I join so uh who talked to us about pre- alumni
Was that you rayin yes sir it was um so so brother as I alluded to before um the pre lundon Association has been um inactive for about two years at morous during Co it kind of slipped under the radar because there wasn’t anyone here to maintain it after the stud who was
The president of the organization matriculated through morehous and became a man um of more or a morous man um and so at this point in time um we have we’re not holding informationals until the class of 2028 gets here in the fall um and so once you do get to campus
Around late August early September we will hold informationals and you would be able to come and be a part of that and to join the organization if that’s something you’re still interested in around that time but like I said we take trips we get you connected with a mentor
We hold uh events on campus we do community service um and we also help you get scholarships and internships through our organization so I’m glad that you’re um interested in the organization I think it would be a great opportunity for you it’s awesome um let’s see so um
There’s a question on the floor about when is the admitted student day we’re going to get more information on that um but it will be the 18th 19th and 20th of April so to that question when is admitted student day it’s going to be April 18th 19th and 20th all right so
Our next question is is there any program such as the National Society of black engineers at Morehouse if not would it be possible to help bring something like that to Morehouse does anybody talk about what the National Society of black engineers at Mor yeah so it’s called nesby um we
Do have a chapter here and it’s actually pretty cool um it’s actually shared amongst the entire Au so Clark Atlanta Spellman and morouse all share the nesby chapter um it is very very important we have a do degree engineering program here at morous college so if you are interested in going into engineering
You’ll come here for two years and you’ll study either science or math and then we send you to another institution like entt or Michigan where you go and get your other degree so instead of graduating with one degree you get two and net be serves as a curator or just
Also as just a mentorship program for you to just happy to understand what it’s like to be a black engineer right another networking opportunity but also you take the conference trips the travel trips and all that as well so um definitely love if you go to uh I
Believe it’s on the au’s actual website you can find the nby information excellent excellent excellent um and so definitely plug in there and where can I get that information um it’s it’s should be on the wardr library actual thing um if you go to it I don’t know that I’ll send it
To you and can share it out okay so we’ll follow through with that perfect um I’m seeing a question coming in um and this one goes to sort of the uh Colin a little bit of what you mentioned Devon a little bit of what you mentioned
From being a part of Casa or even uh journalism you know what are some of the things that you all look for in terms of accepting students in your organizations especially when you start looking at everybody thinks they’re a writer everybody thinks they’re artist everybody thinks that they can do
Photography and video iography what are some of the things that you look for um in selecting uh candidates and I’ll go to Colin and then Devin yeah that’s a actually a perfect question considering where Mt is going through application process right now our spring application process and um
Really it’s consistency like people that show up and do the work like will go very far more house like regardless of like organization like if you show up to your classes if you show up to your ORS if you show up to like just events in general like people take that into
Account people notice that um and then I’ll get into more of the nitty-gritty but for my organization particularly um what makes a good writer um knowing AP style so we we run very much like a newsroom so we need you to know and kind of have the knowledge of how to write in
Journalism format and so there’s a specific format on what you need to write um and that’s offered through a class that you can take freshman year um our adviser Ron Thomas teaches that class and then also Mt has workshops um I’m also the treasurer of MC ABJ which
Is our chapter of nabj National Association of black journalists here at morehous um and we offer workshops as well so there’s literally a plethora of resources you can take to learn how to write and journalistic format how to go about learning those skills and picking
Up those skills um but at the the end of the day it just goes back to showing up and being in the room excellent Devin yeah kind of touching on what Colin said definitely the number one thing is consistency um the way I kind of look at it if you’re
Interested in in marketing or kind of just getting into the entertainment industry I just it I take it as my job to kind of build upon your skills and kind of hone um what you already know what you may not know um andless if you’re a videographer or a photographer
As well I would say consistency and then just kind of individuality we’re going through application process as well for um our fall semester um e executive board um and we just we really truly do look for a consistency and and passion for the space um and then if you have
Any kind of just experience even in high school like that all that all the things can be translated so make sure you don’t kind of minimize your experiences because you know we do value them and they are transferable um so yeah just kind of being able to express what you
Can do and what you want to do where your desires lie and at the end of the day the the executive board for cost will you know make sure to kind of build upon what you already have it’s awesome awesome all right so we got some more
Questions you all we got we got a couple coming in here uh what are the requirements for being a part of the student ambassador team and what is the most difficult part about fulfilling your role as a student ambassador so go ahead marcelos give us something and
Johnny if you want to jump in there by all means yeah so um requirements um right now they’re so your GPA first is the first thing so we need you have at least a 2.5 or above um next thing would be just you know just will like say their commitment
Um that’s a really big thing for us committing communication effed communication is how the student basor program runs itself right um and then I forgot the second question the hardest part um for me the hardest part is I I can talk all day so like KN to like my
Tour is reaching the hour and 30 hour and 45 minutes I need to go ahead and you know Qui that up but essentially know we’re going through our application process as well um we had a total of 136 students applied to be an a bachelor
This year um and of course we have to cut that down to 30 students so it it is a rigorous uh uh opportunity but it’s one that we love um and so I would just say if you come in here and you show that you’re ready for that type of
Commit it’s already yours um so yeah and Johnny add more to that um I was I’m G speak on more the difficult part piece cuz you cover the requirements you know he he’s the man with the plan with that so whatever he say I go with it um I want to say the
Most difficult part for the um to be a student ambassador is making sure that you’re effective like that moment where when you’re cuz I’m tell you walking backwards is a struggle for me still to this day I’ll be ready to turn my back if i’ be having to remember like now you
Got to walk backwards so that’s that’s the that’s the number one difficult part try to walk backwards for the whole time but also just the making sure that you’re effective like making sure that you literally touch every single perspective student in a way um that they can understand and then trying to
Build those connections within that short period of time um because like like Marcel said Earl like I said earlier like we’re the first face that you see when you come on a tour so whatever impression that we leave on you that’s the impression you have with the
College so just that um thought process of even Monday when we gave a group to and it was raining like my thought process was I need to make sure even know in the rain I’m still effective because I this can still affect their experience of what they think about more
College so that’s the most difficult piece to me making sure that you’re remaining effective throughout the entire tour absolutely and I can attest to that that’s that’s real um uh to rayquan how many clubs do you recommend joining as a freshman is there such thing as joining too many
Clubs talk about that well balanced piece right there is a such thing as being in too many clubs um as a freshman we recommend that you only join a maximum of two organizations because we want to make sure that you can stay committed to the organizations that you’re joining but also remembering that
Your academics come first when you’re coming to morous college you’re not just coming here um at you can’t come as a Costa major you can’t come as a student ambassador major but you’re coming to become greater in your specific field right um and so if that’s psychology
You’re here to get your academics done first um the extracurriculars are just that extracurricular and so we want to make sure that as a morous man you are well balanced because the academic part by itself doesn’t make you a morous man the clubs or extracurricular activities by themselves doesn’t make you a morous
Man what makes you a morous man is to be able to balance all the things well without overwhelming yourself and doing it well with the same commitment come on rayquan I hear you man you dropping that knowledge right there right uh debin elaborate a little
Bit on that before we move with the next question uh joining I’m joining too many clubs I think that’s a real thing I had a little different experience uh my freshman year was during covid so you know kind of was a year in at that point
It kind of learned um about the orgs a little bit more and how much work you know that kind of comprised of but I would definitely recommend kind of you know figuring out which ones are the most important to you and kind of being
Able to give all your time to that I’m I was still learning that even as a senior I you know probably in a little bit too many clubs um but yeah definitely learn kind of how to how to balance your time first before you kind of just jump into
Everything and then another thing is you’ll definitely kind of meet everybody from all these different clubs throughout your years at morouse so if there’s things that that you want to get from a certain club that maybe you’re not you know as involved in you’re going to meet those guys who are involved in
In those clubs kind of get the information that you need or maybe want and maybe down the line you can kind of transition and be like okay this is this is an executive board that I want to be a part of this kind of aligns with where
I want to go in the future so yeah awesome that’s what I’m talking about brothers we we’re we’re now this right now uh we’ll get to this question um how does morouse help with managing academics and the importance of also having extracurricular activities so this goes back to that balance question
Of also you know Sports uh engagement while attending college so how does how do you as a student sort of balance your time when you start thinking about your academics as well as your clubs that you’re associated with and then name all the organizations you’re a part of too
Because that gives it a little bit more reference okay um I gu I can go first um so when you me Professor Davis um fresh orientation you’ll learn first day that you know you cannot be at morehous and you cannot be an academic scholar right you can’t have extra curricular
Activities if you don’t get the extra you know the curricular done first right so um more house we are well balanced men right what that means is we’re able to handle you know the opportunity of doing academics in the X activities as well um so on this campus I serve in too
Many ourselves in my opinion um I am the President of the Howard th honors program I serve as student bass coordinator for student ambassadors um I am a belief scholar an Oprah scholar I serve in the SGA I am also I have a job as well and still manag to do 16.5
Credits right so um I’m not saying be like me I don’t wish this on anyone right but it’s because of who I am and what I’ve learned about academic maturity I know how to handle um all these thing so do not take on more that you cannot bear one but also understand
You know understand yourself you know what you can handle don’t push yourself don’t try to be that kid like oh I want to be this I want to do this because it looks good right once your gr start slipping these rsos aren’t going to matter right because once you start
Losing the GPA you’re out of SGA you’re out of Kasa you’re out of the student bastor program right your academics have to come first um I always tell people on the tour it’s it’s easy to get into more house it’s hard to stay right the culture different it it’s it’s something
That you have you have to want it you have to actually want to be here and put in the work um but yeah excellent excellent excellent R did you want to add to that also get a calendar a schedule or something do not come to Morehouse College at 8:30 westv Drive Southwest in
Atlanta Georgia without a calendar or something to keep you balanced it seems minute and it seems minuscule but you Ilia D Professor Ilia Davis told us this during my freshman orientation I am now in my second year here at morous college and it still sticks with me
Whether you need to schedule out your nap times in between classes you need to schedule out when organization meetings are because you want to make sure that you are being you’re able to get the most bang for your book you don’t want to just be stuck inside of Hubert Hall
Brazil Hall uh uh Duo just all day doing work you want to be able to meet your brothers to network with your brothers because these are not just people uh who are colleagues this is your family um and how can how can you expect to get to
Know the culture of more house let you’re actually divulged in it but also you want to be educated while doing that you want to be intellectual enough and in your studies enough to have conversations with your brothers that are meaningful and Equitable to you all excellent excellent again great
Answers great questions um we’re getting questions uh guys talking about what does it look like studying abroad so can anybody talk about that here at Morehouse yeah um so morouse college has a great opportunity we offer almost 270 study abroad programs right and so one
Of the five Wells we have is well travel what that means doesn’t it doesn’t mean coming from Baltimore to Atlanta but in fact Atlanta to Dubai Atlanta to Liberia you want to actually go ahead and so Mor house has this great opportunity where you can go into the study broad office
You you can actually say hey I want to travel here I want to do a semester here I want to do spring break here like Oprah Scholars this this spring break we’re going to the UK right totally free I’m not paying a dime but I’m going to
The UK right and that’s all because of the work that um Mor house has done with making sure building those connection those International ties and so it’s very important you will never have another opportunity like this to study abroad and not have to pay a dime if you
Put in the work um that office just received a grant so it’s just money pouring in and people just have to go and do it and so if you do not have a passport more housee will refund you the money if you go get your passport and
You show them we will refund you the money so that you can get the money right back and it’s it’s a great opportunity um it helps you have a well-rounded education helps you see the world in a different light helps you see life in a different light and so if you
Have this opportunity I say definitely take it I love it um and that’s what that’s what Mor house is about yeah awesome awesome I want to add one more thing on there yeah yeah yeah um I think the beautiful aspect of more has a study abroad opportunities in general is that
They can be major specific and more than more than that they can be specific to your discipline um there’s a lot of um a lot of abroad o study abroad opportunities that are um run through the business uh business major business department um there’s a lot that are run
Through just general organizations on campus but um I can speak to one that actually Mt covered um we sponsor or the journalism Department sponsored uh two students to go to a bise trip I I believe two semesters ago um or yeah actually last year so a year ago um and
They actually did a digital journalism project uh based on the people of beli so we co they covered um different cultures uh different um schools different uh just ways of life in general they got really in touch with the people of of bise and they they did interviews they conducted projects they
Conducted um videos articles Etc just having a full uh media coverage of the trip and that was all student run um and that’s how they uh paid for their trip so they the college paid for them to go and in return they provided a breath of
Content from which to uh engage with and I think that’s a very um interesting part of our study abroad opportunities as well we have opportunities for you to not only get that experience but also do things actively to enhance it um and I think that’s a beautiful thing about our
Programs awesome awesome awesome good points there Colin um you know sticking to that you know one of the things that’s important is as you think about joining a club an organization sometimes you also think about like does it align to your major or not so someone’s asking
The question what is a good club to join for someone who who decides to be undecided that does not know what they want to major in yet so uh let’s rqu you can help with that so I’m in like so many different things that have absolutely nothing to
Do with my major um so I am a chapel assistant I’m n sgaa a pre- alumni I’m in the New Jersey Club um I’m a part of a pleora of things a book club in a book club um and so you can join whatever you want there for a lot of
These organizations aren’t any requirements based off of your major but more so your interest um because you’re so D divulged in your major so often a lot of these organizations are just what they’re called extracurriculars um it’s just something else that you may be interested in that your major may not
Deal with um and so it gives you the scope of being um into something different other than if you decide to major in Psych pschology you can be in a club other than something about psychology so that you’re not just learning one particular discipline but about a whole bunch of different things
Um because a morous man you you can tell a morous man but you can’t tell them much um and so in order for that to be the case you have to be um in a lot of different things and have your hands in a lot of different pots at the same
Time sorry about that okay um so wanted to questions uh that we had that came in was how do I start a club if I’m interested in starting a Bowling Club because I currently bowl from a high school and it’s something that I want to continue I believe that there is not
Organizations like a Bowling Club on campus uh so how do you how do you start a club at morous I can take that one um so this past fall I started a club with three of my friends um called the morouse sports Business Association that focuses on the
Business of sports whether that be marketing law um kind of any anything you could think of um it kind of just goes through the RSO director you put an application it comes out every spring um to get your organization chartered um through that once you get approved you
Have some access to funds um to kind of help your Club um so then you’ll have an opportunity at the RSO fair in the fall to gain members um which is also a hump Wednesday um so kind of the entire student body is there and you can get
The students from join from Spellman or from Clark to join your Club as well um so yeah that’s kind of the process for that it usually you know works out pretty well as long as you have every everything kind of thought out um and what it’ll bring to the college um it’ll
You know work out awesome thank you Devin um and so we have a question here um that kind of deals with like a fraternity uh kind of question and and it just says um basically I’m interested in potentially joining um a fraternity what is the process and then do you have to wait
Until you’re a sophomore so anybody who has questions yeah I can speak to that I’m a member of Omega Sci-Fi fraternity Incorporated um s chap Mars college and the short answer is as freshman y’all don’t need to worry about fraternities or fraternal organizations whatsoever um um you cannot do anything regarding any
Fraternity until you are a sophomore what I do recommend is I do recommend you uh engage with our lead workshops and our uh Howard Thurman Washington leaders program I think it’s called um something or other or honors program something like that but those are the two things that are required one of
Which are required you can either choose to do the lead Workshop or the Howard Thurman uh program um but those are required for ad minutes uh to a fraternity or even application to a fraternity upon your sophomore year um but the if you are interested in fraternity what I would recommend your
Freshman year is just to enjoy College enjoy more house see what she has to offer um explore like the point of your freshman year is to explore everything and everyone and uh you’re not going to do that if you kind of pigeon hole yourself and think oh I need to do X Y
Andz to join X Organization no just explore yourself figure out what speaks to you as an as an individual and help yourself grow and and people will see that awesome awesome awesome I would just add that um you know being part of divine n it’s very important that with
Any organization and especially when you start talking about fraternities to see morous as first the first fraternity that organization that cares and loves on you that you’re a part of that first and then you find yourself you know Desiring uh to be maybe a part of the
Divine nine is to stay discreet and to allow for those opportunities to come to attend an interest meeting um and then from there to express interest uh once once you’re able to get supported in your Endeavor or in your in your field of study so um Colin’s exactly right you
Definitely want to do so um and so thank you that for that Colin especially uh congratulations on Omega SciFi attorne Incorporated by the way um what we have here is as a freshman when do you find out about signing up for organizations is there a list is there a fair how do
You how do you you know get Associated so Johnny and then we’ll go with de um so to speak to the first organization like I said earlier in the panel that you get introduced to um is RHA um because we have an informational we try to we try to describe to that in
August so that’s kind of like the first thing that you U would see and also then um we have an executive director who’s partners with Casa to ensure that we have a RS soare which is in the fall it’s not like in the fall of September early part of September where you have
All campus um rsos which is reg register student organizations that you would see that you have have the opportunity to walk around talk to them sign up um but my advice even when you get to the RSO Fair upon your coming into Morehouse like um my brothers have said before try
To only join two um so that way you can make sure you still can handle your academics as well as balance the extracurricular activities that you choose to be a part of excellent excellent excellent um so we’ll take these last two and then we’ll have some closing remarks uh what kinds
Of community programs are offered for students to get involved in through morouse so what are some of the community based programs and I mean I know community service is part of the requirement like a certain number of hours but are there Community organizations I’m thinking you know the boners community service might
Be one to kind of discuss anybody want to go into that so um to Pivot back on sgaa um I think Rock can attest is we have a secretary of community service who is who is um job is to legitimately post community service hours um and you can
Find that once you come through the Ser servant leaders app to get those community service hours but to my knowledge um every registered student organization is required to have some type of community service activity so therefore when you join that RSO when you join um sgaa or RHA or any campus or
Um you have the opportunity to participate in community service because the whole goal is to help out of your community to not only your morouse community but also to the West Community that we’re surrounded by excellent excellent just a couple announcements before we uh continue and
Then I’m call let you jump in there well Colin go ahead jump in there go ahead yeah I just wanted to mention just just quick um we do have a few organizations commited Justus communic Service uh Propel peacemakers um and then last peacemakers collegia 100 collegia 100 yeah um so we
There are organizations on campus directly just involved in community service no that’s huge right that’s huge and guys we are going to you know extend this for about eight more minutes just because I know we still have an amazing listeners on here and we definitely want
To get to their questions uh and so um what we want to Target and what we want to look at um and Colin you kind of alluded to this already on community service but does moral you know have a music program is there an interest in learning how to play an instrument you
Know we didn’t really talk about music or band or glee club can you just talk more about that yeah absolutely U the Glee club we Mor colge glee club we have a jazz Orchestra we have a traditional or orchestra as well not don’t a lot of
People know about that but there are a lot of opportunities for for music and musical expression um the morous music group was uh or established last semester and they are all about artistic expression as well there’s ingap national uh next Great American poet um so we have a variet forms of artistry
Period across the Au so um I’m sure my brothers can expand upon that as well so I know um uh band music the Arts is definitely a big thing at morous um Johnny I’ll ask you this question to Pivot towards that um do you know about like the art programs at Morehouse like
The art curator program I know it’s pretty cool you kind of talk a little bit about that um yes I can uh but I would say as far as um to just speak broadly about the topic of the Arts um coming to morous I would say there’s a lot of things for
You to get involved in um we do have an art Club here at the campus where you have individuals that cuz most people I believe Express themselves through the ARs so um morous and Spellman do have a hip-hop dance team that they combine together that they do um I know it’s
Hosted in Spellman um Spellman’s wellness and they just had a event I want to say last last semester before we left and went off so um it is a lot that the Arts not and then also with artistic painting and um artistic expression through um different drawings and things
Of that nature you have that here on the campus as well so it’s just the fact of um I would say knowing the individuals and knowing those who are in that particular area and then also we do have a theater Club as well here at the college that um The Ensemble I believe
They call them I believe that’s the name of morous Ensemble and they have show coming up at the end of this month February 25th I believe awesome awesome awesome Devon we’re gonna kind of get into this Kasa thing a little bit man I have some I have some questions some personal
Questions about it so you know if we take Kasa and rayquan we take SGA they both kind of overlap in ways right so can you just kind of talk a little bit about the overlap and then what really makes it uh very unique right and then
Rayquan if you could talk SGA you know how is SGA a little bit more unique right both are amazing organizations um you know I remember when the SGA president uh was over Kasa and the SGA president or the or the person that was over uh Kasa was SGA I mean was uh Kasa
President and an SGA president but they were like roommates when I was in school so you know just kind of talking a little bit about just the overlap between both organizations that would be great so Deon yeah so I would definitely uh kind of say there’s a friendly
Rivalry between to um it’s all love at the end of the day you know we think we’re number one they think they’re number one but you know we all do work together for the betterment of our students um so I guess kind of the overlap kind of you know sgaa is more um
You know kind of building on policy and things like that that that kind of helps students um and kind of our community and we’re just we’re mostly focused on the experiences but that doesn’t that’s not to say that we don’t collaborate so sometimes there’ll be things that people
Bring to Sea that they feel like you know hey um we want more of this or kind of just just just more more more I don’t know maybe we’ll need more funding for an event so that that help sgaa kind of backing us on that helps us to create
More um engaging environments sometimes um so there definitely is a back and forth a kind of open line of communication that that’s had um that’s you know extremely important for the student Community because when we go together as um kind of just one community so even if we walk with mt and
And sea all together um you know we can really get things done together and I think we we’ve started to realize that over the years um so it’s definitely a united front that we’re you know working on building the the relationship going forward as well right I’m piggybacking right off of my
Brother it is a friendly rivalry um particularly because um you cannot be an SGA and CA at the same time um you have to pick either or um and so usually students um um explore um element before they make a decision of being in CLE or they’ll intern for SGA before they make
A decision about running for something or a appointed position in the SJ because you cannot be in both organizations at the same time um however like he said um SGA is more so on the policy based side and upholding the concerns of the students and um engaging students in a way um that’s
Different than just um uh events and uh things like that not say that’s all that Kasa does um but Casa brings more energy to the table and so in the areas that SJ fall short Kasa picks up the slack and for the areas that Kasa falls short SGA
Picks up the slack um and so it it works hand inand like a well oiled machine um and together we hold the college together as the two most prominent organizations love it man that’s what I’m talking about brothers good stuff um you know we didn’t talk a lot about this
But science clubs are there like any science clubs to get to be a part of you know what are some of the things maybe in the medical clubs or medical uh focuses um can we just kind of talk a little bit about that as well so Devin
I’ll I’ll throw it to you just science in general sure yeah we have some uh cost members who are biom majors and chem majors and I feel like we have some math Majors as well so they’re all a part of um honor societies and their respective um fields of majors and then
A lot of them are in clubs we have some people who are involved in Sports Medicine um they’re also members of the sports medicine Club so uh there’s definitely a multitude of opportunities for students who are interested in the medical field um or science or kind of
Stem um things so and then we have a nesby member as well so yes there’s definitely opportunities nesby I forgot about nesby man that’s a good one and then there’s scholarships associated with some of these too so that’s really awesome um which is which is great um
What I want to do next um I think we got all these questions question answered um you all have been amazing um our representatives from our organizations excellent work I want to give you all an opportunity to uh State closing remarks and as we think about you belong at
Morehouse you belong uh just as you close can you just get into you know your statement of why you think you a student belongs at morouse and how your organization can help them belong at morous so we’ll start with Colin we’ll go to Devin we’ll go to Johnny and then rayquan
Yeah I can I can definitely do that and I’ll uh I get my closing remark in this sort of story I’ll make it quick um when I was applying to college I only applied to three schools Harvard morouse UNCC I got deferred from Harvard uh I got a
Uncc’s Honors College and I morous wasn’t even on my list uh a professor called me and sat with me on the phone for an hour hour to hour 30 that Professor was Dr Davis so he ended up being one of my mentors close mentors to but he explained to me the difference
Between being a number and being an asset and and being um a person and being a scholar um he told me at morehous I wouldn’t be just a number I’d be I’d be a person in which they would pour into and they would build upon and
They would help grow and morous saw me as a person and as a as an individual that they that they generally wanted there not just because of what I could bring to them but what they could bring to me and morehous since has helped me
Grow and develop as as a man as a person as a scholar and as just a person that wants to do better and be better because I’m surrounded by people that want to do better and be better um and the day I got my acceptance letter to morehous I
Got my accept on Harvard so like looking back on it I call that divine intervention like with with without that conversation with Dr Davis without without that difference without all the opportunities that I have been given I wouldn’t have been here and it just shows that when you get here there’s
People like that that have a story just like that there’s people that have been the top of this class there’s people that have been um employed before there’s people that have been involved in the military there’s people from a vast variety of backgrounds that all come here under this umbrella of Great
Men to learn and develop and to contribute to extensive history and Legacy that has been built for a hundred years so um it’s a lot to uphold but it’s it’s a privilege and honor to do so yeah kind of similar to Colin U maybe a little bit different but uh when I was
14 came to visit my aunt in Atlanta and she asked me if I wanted to go visit morous and I said absolutely not um was 100% sure that I wasn’t coming wasn’t interested at all um had somebody at my high school who went to morouse knew a
Lot of morous in my community um and they kept trying to tell me this is a right decision I wanted to go to tough University in Boston um ended up you know Co happened decided you know I didn’t want to be a number anymore I
Wanted to be an asset like Colin said um decided to come to morehous and it was the best decision I’ve ever made like I said earlier I’ve met my best men I’ve met my my best you know friends even at Spellman as well um it’s it’s lifechanging it’s a there people people
See things in you that you often don’t see in yourself here um I you know am a shire guy been was a sh guy in high school as well and kind of got thrown into one of the higher leadership positions on campus because people saw you know these leadership abilities in
Me that I didn’t see in myself and I feel like you know that’s some that you just don’t get everywhere because of the Brotherhood and because of the relatability that we all have to each other because we all do have similar experiences just like I you know haven’t
Had many interactions with colum but that’s the similar story to me um so I I you know was strongly encouraged definitely coming more I’ll see some names that are familiar on here um you guys know how I feel about this school so um make the right
Decision um I would say I Echo the same thing my brothers were saying um funny enough I took a middle school college trip to Atlanta um my eighth grade year and I took a picture at the mor house sign I remember I looked at my mom straighten her face I said Mom I’m
Coming to morous and um me coming from I I don’t like to say I come from the hood because I don’t believe in that I want to say I come from a low-income area um where it wasn’t expected for young African-American males to go to college
That wasn’t the um that wasn’t the thing um my mom got her masters from Nova so she didn’t even go to HBCU so I know one of my goals as I was starting to apply for colleges my senior year I applied to all HBCU um I’m from Florida so of
Course spam was the first option but I just had in my mind I want to go to morouse because not only do you hear the names like Dr Martin Luther King Jr but hear the names like Spike Lee and Samuel Jackson that makes you want to make a
Difference in your community um so when I actually I didn’t get into more house during the regular decision period I actually got in the morous the day of my prom in May 7th and I was headed to fam I had to pay my money and everything for
Fam but I told my mom I said I will work my behind off if I get into morehous to pay the um fee that I need to pay so when I got into Morehouse May 7th I want to say just being here talk about that sense of belonging um I’ve became a
Better young man um when I go home I’m not going home as the Johnny they seen in high school I’m going home as the Johnny that came that has been at more house for entire year and have innovative ideas on how to posi positively impact my community um and
Through my time being head more house I’m able to host food drives back home I’m able to become that mentor to seniors that’s in high schools that’s struggling on whether I’m going to go to college or whether I’m I going to um follow the plan that my family has kind
Of set for me um so that’s my sense of belonging here more House of how it has developed me so far as a man wow I think I E Echo the same Sentiments of my brothers um my story is a little bit different um I saw more
House on a movie one time um and I was like 10 years old and I just went to go Google it really quickly to figure out what it was um and from that day forward not knowing anything about the history of morous I didn’t know that Dr Martin
Luther King had come here I didn’t know about Samuel L Jackson or anything like that um I just knew that it was a black college and just because going to college wasn’t something that was normal for people from where I was from I’m going around telling people that I
Wanted to go to morous um up until my senior year of high school um it was still my story and I was sticking to it I had applied to Morehouse and I applied to Harvard and Howard I got deferred from Harvard but I got Howard um and I
Told my mom I waited on morous morous was my last school that just hadn’t come back yet never tore morous before I got to the campus NSO was my first time seeing the campus of morehous and experiencing the campus of Morehouse um morous did not give me an answer back
Until I think it was about January or February um where I got my acceptance letter and they told me that I had got in and all bets were off the table for any other school that I had got into because morous was my dream um and when
I got here I realized it was it I was meant to be here because this is my home um morous created something of me that I could never have done by myself that my mother could never have done with me alone um my mom got me to the river but
Morouse crossed me over um and I am forever grateful for all the things that I have learned here at morous morous didn’t just teach me see rayquan was dropping that knowledge that’s what happened man he was going in so I will pick up where he left off what’s amazing about morous uh
Is that one you get a chance to network and engage with Brothers just like this this concept of you belong whether you become a part of an organ organization or whether you’re building your legacy or whether you just don’t know what you’re going to do and this network this
