Good evening everyone pray everybody had a great day today let us open up with prayer father God we thank you for yet another day of life we thank you God for your grace and your mercy we thank you God for your unconditional love we thank
You God for this time of study thank you for the opportunity and the privilege to gather this evening on Zoom to again study to learn and to grow how to be better disciples we pray God for our pastor and our first lady and we pray God for the bre the the guest preacher
For this evening we thank you we love you and we praise you in Jesus name amen so just a few announcements to get us started we want to remind everyone that this Sunday will be our college and Greek Sunday so you are encouraged to wear your college and or Greek
Paraphernalia your school colors just want to come out and support and um again just dress for the occasion for this Sunday our college and Greek Sunday um that’s it for oh announcements we also have um new members orientation this Saturday um at 10:00 a.m. via Zoom
So this Saturday you are if you are a new member and you recently joined or if you’re a member and you haven’t taken your classes yet you are encouraged to attend our new members orientation this Saturday via Zoom starts at 10: and you are able to complete all four of your
New member classes all in one shop via Zoom this Saturday so if you are a new member and you’re wondering why you should attend new members orientation so just a few questions that we go over during um the orientation we um familiarize you with what communion is
What the importance of communion is what baptism is um if somebody was to ask you who is God we ask you that question and we go over the answer to that question we also go into steps to um how do you spiritually mature so we know Salvation
Is a a one-time event but steps to spiritual maturity we go over that how do you continue to mature in your spiritual walk with Christ and then we end with um a lesson on uh gifts the Holy Spirit uh has given each of us a
Gift some of us he’s given more than one and so we go over um the gifts and we ask you all to take a gifts assessment and then um we give you information on different Ministries as to where you can use those gifts within the body of
Metropolitan so it’s a um a um good lessons that we do good classes that we do and we are encouraging all new members or members again if you’re not necessarily new but you haven’t taken your classes to take the um orientation classes also if you are a season member
And you want to refresh her you are also welcome to join us as well and um sitting on the classes and and get refreshed because we all need to be refreshed um with things that we think we know or maybe we do know um from time to time so you’re encouraged to attend

There in good numbers and I just want to thank you for uh your support of the retreat your support supporting me and your commitment to Christian education and developing and training uh yourselves in the classes and everything thank you so much and what from our young people we had young people who
Were there as well as adults and it was it was absolutely awesome we were blessed to have over a thousand persons who were there and it was it was a great great uh week from the concert on Sunday night and the classes Monday morning and
We K uh the the service that ended so metp I just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for uh your support I love you so much and I thank you for your love and your support also want to emphasize our college and Greek Sunday which is would be this
Sunday Legacy Sunday we will have a college choir and if you are interested in singing in the College Choir they have a rehearsal Thursday at 7 o’clock at the church so you want to be there uh for that rehearsal if you’re interested in singing they are rehearsing they are ready
Uh the fraternities and sororities will be there represented so if you are in a sorority of fraternity be there invite your your your Sorrows invite your brothers to come and be a part of our college and Greek Legacy Sunday and it’s Legacy because that’s what it’s about
It’s about how we have been gifted uh with college with education with opportunities and we want to pass it on to the younger generation uh God’s going to bless us in a in a great way and and we’ll be preaching a sermon called Victory in the valley uh on this Sunday

Home I don’t know how long I’m gonna be but I promise I’ll let y’all out before 11 o’clock tonight all right y’all with me look at that some some folk jumped off already see y’all left all right all right as has been assigned to me tonight and uh this is one of actually
My favorite preaching series uh between that between this series Psalm 119 and Revelation chapters 2 and three the seven churches and uh the Book of Jonah I think I have one more but who that need a mute your stuff it’s my time now whereever that is
Mute your mute your stuff I’m on here now right all right we good messing with y’all all right uh Psalm 119 and I I’ve been assigned the the nun segment the nun uh stanza of Psalm 119 as you know Psalm 119 for the lack of a better way to put it is the
Largest chapter if you will and and and I and I used the word chapter Loosely because since the book of Psalms is a hym book A hym book doesn’t have chapters so it’s just Psalm 119 but if you want to consider this a chapter it’s the most extensive
Expansive chapter in all of the Bible and it’s so it’s so large in fact it’s 176 verses it’s so large that I’m pretty sure you may know I’m pretty sure it’s been explained to you already that the stanzas are broken up into 22 stanzas and those stanzas are divided by
The Hebrew alphabet so if you look at verse 97 right above you see the word me you come down to to verse 105 look right above you see the word none you come down to verse 113 you see sech all in other words each one each stanza is divided into eight verses and
Those eight verses are headed by the Hebrew alphabet that’s how it’s broken down put into pieces sliced up if you will are y’all F me and so I am assigned tonight the nun stanza beginning at verses which which is comprised of verses 105 through 112 so let’s start reading with verse
105 of Psalm 119 there you find these words your word is a lamp to my feet and the light to my path I have sworn and and confirmed that I will keep your righteous judgments ver 107 I am Afflicted very much revive me oh Lord according to your word verse 118 accept
I pray the Free Will offerings of my mouth oh Lord and teach me your judgments verse 109 my life is continually in my hand yet I do not forget your law verse 110 the wicked have laid a snare for me yet I have not strayed from your precepts
Verse 111 your testimonies I have taken as a Heritage forever for they are the rejoicing of my heart and then finally verse 112 I have inclined my heart to perform your statutes forever to the very end amen tonight I want to talk for the next few

Tonight I want to talk about what can the word of God do for you that’s what I want to talk about from these verses vers from Psalm 119 vers 105 to 112 what can the word of God do for you the Bible is an extraordinary book
There’s no book like like this book in fact this book is so potent it’s so powerful that Hebrews chapter 4 ver verse 12 says for the word of God is living or quick and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword piercing even to the division of Soul and Spirit boy
That’s sharp isn’t it that it can it can cut between your soul and and nobody really knows the difference between Soul and Spirit but the word of God is so sharp it can cut between your your soul and your spirit is’t that powerful and and the joints and Marrow and is a
Discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart oh I’m here to tell you the word of God is an extraordinary book in fact Martin Luther has said that the Bible is a lie it speaks to me the Bible is alive it has feet it runs after me
The Bible is a alive it has hands it lays hold of me are y’all in here with me tonight I I’m G say that one more time I like that Martin Luther the Bible is alive in other words the Bible ain’t a dead book the Bible is a living book
The Bible is alive it’s so alive that it speaks to me the Bible is so alive it has feet and it runs after me what you mean preacher it runs after me matter of fact since since since I found out through Pastor Johnson that I was going
To share with you all tonight Psalm 119: 105 through 112 they’ve been running after me ever since I was given this assignment in other words when you going through your tough times has has has the word of God ever chased you down when you’ve been in trouble uh has the
Word of God has the word has the has the word weeping may endure for a night oh but joy comes in the morning has has it has that ever run after you when you got down to your last dime did did did did that word that and my God shall supply
All my needs according to his riches and Glory did it run after you hey when you felt all alone and by yourself did Psalm 231 23 and one run after you the Lord is my shepherd I shall not want oh God’s word it it oh yeah it runs after me in
Fact not the word of God Is So Alive it has hands it lays hold of me God’s word will grab you when I’m when I done messed up God’s word grabs me that that’s what we call conviction in other words when I when I’m experiencing the
Joy of the Lord as my strength that passage it in Nehemiah it it it grabs all to me don’t you know that that sometimes when you don’t want to grab hold the word of the word of God God’s word will grab hold of you for you come
On somebody when you want to wallow in your pain and wallow in your suffering and wallow in your struggle God’s word will grab you when you try when you trying to get away from the word God’s word will take hold of you all I’m trying to tell you is what Martin Luther
Said that the Bible it is alive yes God the Bible is made up of 66 books with over 40 different authors on three different countries I’m sorry three different continents three different language Hebrew Hebrew Greek and Aramaic over a period of 1600 years it was written by fishermen and Shepherds and
Kings and military leaders it was written by prophets and Statesmen by physicians and a sheep breeder a it was written by a tax collector and a and a former Pharisee meaning the word of God has seen it all there is nothing you can go through that God’s word has not seen
That that God’s word can’t help you get through there’s nothing you can experience there’s nothing you can deal with there’s nothing you can go through that God’s word hadn’t already seen it you don’t have a problem that’s new and unique to the word of God you don’t have
An issue that God’s word is not capable of addressing because God’s word reveals the mind of God and God sees all God knows all and God is all there is nothing that God doesn’t all already know and when his word is laid out guess what it reveals the mind of God God did
The word of God has 1,189 chapters 41,100 six words and yet it all comes together in a wonderful and unique package all you got to do is just look at Colossians chapter 3 and verse 16 one of my favorite verses Colossians 3:16 Says let the word of God
Dwell in you richly amen somebody richly in all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another in Psalms and hymns and spiritual songs and singing with Grace in your hearts to the Lord God’s word comes together amen Matthew 4:4 says that that that man shall not live by pray alone but by every word that
Proceeds from the mouth of God all of God’s word is good I remember a few years ago we had this expression we often use that a lot of times Black Folk often talk about talk about anytime something happen Black Folk be talking about it’s all good you know talking
About yeah man you meet somebody on the corner meet somebody on the corner he be like yeah man my mama died last week but it’s all good dog it’s all good you know yeah man I lost my job a month ago man but uh you know yeah it’s all good
Though it’s all good y’all remember you y’all remember you said that all the time I don’t care what happened yeah man man yeah man my dog died but but it’s all good though it’s all good well I’m here to tell y’all in life everything ain’t all good but I’m here to tell
Y’all when it comes to the word of God guess what it’s all good you can’t go wrong with the word of God God’s word it’s all good whatever you need is right there in God’s word well let me jump into these verses right quick first of all here we go here we go
What the word of God will do for you here we go here what the word I got three things in these verses what the word of God will do for you verses 105 and 106 First of all the word of God will provide spiritual guidance oh yeah
God’s word that’s number one in verses 105 and 106 God’s word will provide spiritual guidance all of us are Travelers on the road way of life we we’re Travelers we are we’re pilgrims we are we’re on our way we we didn’t come here to stay old folks you say that this world
Is is not my home I’m just a pilgrim passing through I we didn’t come here to stay and that’s often times what causes us stress in life when we live and we act like we’re here to stay when we when we approach life as if we’re here
Forever as if we’re here for good well let’s look at what verse 105 said this is probably arguably the most it’s arguably the most the most popular verse in the entire entirety of Psalm 119 it says your word is a lamp to my feet and
A light to my pathway oh yes it is oh yes it is oh yeah your word is a lamp to my feet that’s how it starts that’s how this stands and starts your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light to my pathway I’m here to tell y’all sometimes
Sometimes sometimes in life three things can happen in life hear me real good three things can happen in life sometimes sometimes the fault is in my feet y’all got that sometime the fault is in my feet but then but then sometimes then sometimes it’s a path problem y’all follow me sometimes times
The fault is in my feet sometimes it’s me I’m trying to go the wrong way y’all follow me but then sometimes it’s a path Problem by that I mean sometimes where I want to go is the problem sometimes the path I’m trying to go down just isn’t
Right who is it and the psalmist said I’m sorry the wise man Solomon says that uh there’s a way that seems right to a man but the end thereof is the way of Destruction y’all see it sometimes I got sometime the fault is in my feet
Sometimes it’s where I want to go it’s what I want to do that’s the problem sometimes in life the fault is in my feet then sometimes sometimes the path is the problem and then guess what there’s a third there’s a third there’s a third consideration sometimes it’s
Both of them amen sometimes the fault is in my feet of where I’m trying to go sometimes there’s a problem with the past that the past is just wrong but then sometimes the problem is both of them that it’s my feet that I want to go
And it’s the path where I’m trying to go come on somebody but I’m here to tell y’all whether it’s whether the whether the fault is with your feet or whether it’s a problem with the path the word of God says your word is a lamp to my feet
Amen did y are y’all following me in here when the fault is in my feet I got a lamp when the problem is with the path I got a light and guess what it’s the word of God Amen somebody so whether it’s me or the path the word of God can
Provide instruction and Direction you may have some some fault in your feet but guess what the word of God is a lamp oh sometimes sometimes you may have a problem regarding your pth guess what the word of God is light all I’m trying to tell you whether it’s you or the path
Whether it’s you or the destination whether it’s you or the situation the word of God is a lamp and it’s a light come on somebody this is a dark World we’re living in y’all this world seems to get darker by the day this world this
This is a dark World y’all but I’m here to tell y’all bless the name of the Lord as the people of God we got a lamp and we got a light amen guess what you better take advantage of the light God bless oh bless his name then
It says then it says in verse six I have sworn I have sworn and confirmed that I will keep your righteous judgment in verse 106 he’s saying I must stick to it because of its value don’t you dare quit on the word and give up on the word of
God because God’s word is of absolute value it’s Irreplaceable there is there is nothing that takes the place of the word of God there is nothing that you can find that’s better than God’s word and God’s people must once again fall in love with God’s word I’m GNA say that
One more time God’s people must once again fall in love with God’s word there’s this brand of Christian that lives a Christian Life that’s untethered from the word of God many too many Christians spend their time trying to figure out how I can be a Christian and
Still do everything I’ve always done how can I how can I be a Christian and still do what it is I want to do I’m here to tell you God’s word will transform you God’s word will change you not only will God’s word save you God’s word will
Sanctify you God’s word will set you apart God’s word will change your wants God’s word ought to change your desires as a child of God we ought to be overcoming some things first John 5:4 says that whatsoever is born of God overcomes the world and this is the
Victory that overcomes the world even our faith and our faith come on somebody our faith faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God and it’s transformative faith that comes through the power of God’s word God’s people must once again fall in love with the
Word of God if there’s going to be change if there’s going to be victory since we are Overcomers through him who died for us we got to put our hope and our trust in the divinely inspired written word of God that’s number one the first thing God’s word to do for you
It will provide spiritual guidance but then secondly in verses 107 through verse 110 it’ll provide sustaining Grace it’ll provide sustaining Grace look at verse 107 it saysi am Afflicted very much revive me oh Lord according to your word six times in Psalm 119 he says he’s
Afflicted six times as you read as you study as you continue your study of of of Psalm 119 you’ll discovered six times he says I’m he says I’m I’m Afflicted but this is the first time that he describes just how Afflicted he really is verse 106 says I’m
Afflicted very much oh my God Afflicted word it means to be bowed down under a heavy weight meaning it’s something on the psalmist whoever writes this Psalm we don’t know if it’s David or whether it’s Ezra The Scribe we’re not sure exactly who the who the writer of Psalm 119 is
But whoever he is he’s somebody who has a deep passion and a deep desire and a deep love for the word of God however in his passion and love for the word of God we’ll discover he’s not exempt from being Afflicted meaning just because you in
God’s word is not a cure all from the struggles and the tensions and the afflictions and the battles the circumstances of Life whoever this guy is see y’all know the uniqueness of Psalm of Psalm 119 every verse with the exception of what four or five makes a
Reference to the word of God be it precepts be it words be statutes every verse makes some reference to the word of God so whoever writes this Psalm they are uniquely and deeply acquainted with the word of God but in spite of the acquaintance and passion
And love for the word of God he’s still experiencing Affliction he’s still he he’s still under some heavy weight one more time verse seven I am afflicted very much revive me oh Lord according to your word all I’m trying to tell y’all is is there are some afflictions
In life that drive you to the word of God Amen somebody he says I’m Afflicted very much revive me in other words revive me Quicken me make me alive meaning meaning the psalmist here is saying I’m so Afflicted whatever I’m going through I can’t get myself out of it so he says
Revive me oh lord it’s so deep it’s so heavy it’s so serious the Affliction is so weighty he says revive me oh Lord notice he doesn’t say revive Me O bruh he says revive me oh Lord did y’all hear what I said y’all missed that I thought y y’all see what I did
Right there revive he didn’t say revive me OA he said revive me oh Lord hey meaning that’s some stuff that self-help gurus can’t can’t get you out of that five steps and and and 12ep programs can’t get you out of there are some issues and burdens and afflictions in
Life that’s a job for God Amen somebody he says revive me oh Lord according to your word he understands that the power for Revival in the midst of his Affliction is only found in the word of God come on somebody and that’s where the people of
God once again we got to turn our attention and our focus and put our dependence what’s weighing us down we got to put our weight and the weight of the struggle on the word of God come on somebody knowing that only God’s word can raise us only God’s word can revive
Us only God’s word Can Lift Us oh y’all know the story y’all know the power of the word of God to revive all you got to do is go to Ezekiel chapter 37 and he went into a valley of dry of dry bones in fact they were so they the bones were
Called they were very dry which means that only a supernatural power could bre could breathe life back into those dry bones and the old preacher would tell you when when when when when Ezekiel started preaching amen somebody he they begin a shaking and a quaking in that
Same Valley full of dry bones but the bones started coming together and the old preacher would say the headbone connected to the shoulder bone and shoulder bone connected to the arm bone and the arm bone connected to the what body bone connected to the hip bone and hip bone
Got connect to the legone y’ y’all get the picture right God’s word has power and in the midst of your Affliction guess what he knows how to put us back together again he knows how to revive us hey man somebody but then go to verse eight well
Verse 108 108 says except I pray the Free Will offerings of my mouth oh Lord and teach me your statutes now he just said he just said that he’s Afflicted he just said in in in in verse before verse 107 he just said he’s Afflicted that’s what he just said but
Then he says in verse 108 teach me I’m here to tell y’all no matter how Afflicted you become you can never lose your appetite for the word of God he said in verse 10 he said in verse 107 I’m Afflicted but then he says in verse 108 teach me come on your judgments
That’s his appetite he’s Afflicted in verse 107 but yet he doesn’t lose his appetite in verse 108 amen somebody in verse 12 he says teach me in verse 26 he says teach me in verse 64 he says teach me in verse 124 he says teach me in
Verse 135 he says says teach me no matter how Afflicted you may be guess what don’t you ever lose your appetite you better hang on matter of fact that’s how you know you’ve been born again that’s how you know you’re a Christian a Christian has an appetite
For the word of God a Christian has an ambition for the will of God and a Christian is active in the work of God the first thing you got to have is an appetite for the word of God Amen somebody let me see here it is don’t try
To understand don’t understand the day you stop learning is the day you stop living can I do that one more time the day you stop learning is the day you stop living when you lose your appetite for the word of God the day you stop learning is the day
You stop living look at what he said let me put you on right here it says I got I gotta look at verse I gotta look at verse 10 109 my life is continually in my hand yet I do not forget my law he’s saying my Affliction just might be my
Fault but guess what I’m still gonna turn to the law of God things may be tough in my life I might have made some bad decisions but I’m Gonna Keep I’m gonna stay with the law of God look but I gotta show y’all verse 10 it says here
Verse 10 the wicked have laid a snare for me yet I have not strayed from your precepts the wicked have laid a snare for me yet I have not straight from your precepts I got I gotta show y’all something right here hold on y’all let me hold on one second
