Is your opportunity to meet the candidates and then make sure that you go vote okay our church business meeting we will have an additional additional one on Friday March the 8th at 6:00 p.m. as many congregants as possible are asked to be there our board meeting will be to on Tuesday at 6:00
P.m. juneth will have their meet and greet on Thursday the 29th at 6:30 p.m at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church there will be a teen talk here on Saturday March the 2nd from 9:00 a.m. until noon we look forward to that and we hope that you will invite other teens
To come and participate I know that those that have been preparing this have worked hard on getting this to be something exciting and interesting for our youth so please join in that effort the Chapel Hill annual 8th black history celebration will be Tuesday the 27th at 6:00 p.m. at the Chapel Hill
Museum so any of that any of you that can please participate in that as well these have been your announcements please govern yourselves accordingly we will now have our moment in black history many teachers in schools are celebrating black history month but there are still many miscon ceptions and
Misunderstandings about the past present and future of this celebration so today I thought we’d go back to the beginning hi this is Mike Hind and I’m a professor here at the Stanford Graduate School of Education where my work focuses on the history of America’s schools what we now know as Black
History Month at its Beginnings as negro history week which was invented by the famed historian educator and activist Carter G Woodson in 1926 negro history week was a direct challenge to traditional curricula of the time period which often degraded and dehumanized black people negro history week was also inextricably linked to
Black calls for social and political equality more than just a chance to talk about a few notable achievements negro history week was a call to action although negro history week became one of his most widely known interventions it was only part of Dr Wood efforts to develop democratize disseminate information on black history
He also pursued this work through the establishment of the association for negro life and history its journals the Journal of negro history and the Negro history bulletin and textbooks speeches pamphlets and materials for every grade level from college down to kindergarten now Woodson didn’t do this work alone moving from idea to reality
Took the dedication of thousands thousand of black teachers most of them women who were largely responsible for shaping the celebration through their work in the classroom but also took the work of entire communities including churches fraternities and sororities libraries and lodges Social Clubs and Civic organizations this reflected Woodson’s
Desire to encourage lay people not just academics to preserve and present their own histories as the movement continued to grow and outstrip the bounds of theing and the word negro which was outdated by the 1960s was replaced by a new generation born and raised in the Civil Rights strugle Black History Month
Emerged in its current form during those decades and is still going strong so is this celebration still relevant today well it depends on who you ask critics charge that the progress we’ve made from the 1920s to the 2020s has largely made Black History Month irrelevant or it worse singling out
Black history is actually counterproductive to broader efforts at inclusion although we may have made progress however research from the Southern Poverty Law Center and other sources still shows that we are far from our goal honoring the multiple voices in our classrooms and challenging dominant narratives at the same time new and
Emerging movements for racial Justice call out for historical context which our schools simply fail to provide cartery Woodson himself was cautiously optimistic that students in the future would no longer need black history wom if we taught in ways that honored and elevated our students and told their stories all year
Long but we’re not there yet so Black History Month will continue to be what it always has been a celebration a stinging indictment and a call to action all in one turn do anything for Easter good morning again I have the awesome privilege of standing up and telling you that today we are celebrating 24 years of service of Pastor joh de Harris and sister Helen Harris here at Rose Missionary Baptist Church um I’ve known them I think almost all 24 of those years and through their
Leadership I have grown and become a better person and I think all of us can say that and so I would like to at this point take some time to honor them for their years of service their dedication and for their love now I’m going to ask
Pastor Harris if he will step out of the pulpit and come and join Mrs Harris there are many of us here at Mount Rose that want to acknowledge all the things that you mean to us all the things that you do for us but we first thank God
First and foremost we thank him for you for all that you do and just for your presence in general and we now have some presenters that would like to say a few things to you we will be begin with the youth which will be followed by the deacons and then the Brotherhood and
Then the ushers and then special one from Mrs Tish Woodard so if the youth would come Now good morning happy 24th and thank you very much and we beseech you Brethren to know that to know them which labor among you and who and over you in the Lord and admonish you and esteem and esteem them very highly and love their Works sake and be at peace among yourselves 1
Thessalonians 5:12 through1 13 King James version these verses command us as Christians to recognize their leadership we we are told to recognize those who are church leaders and esteem them very highly in love and be at peace with them as as who are as motivation to obey
We are called to consider there consider the work they do Among Us and encourage them to encourage them so that they P persevere we ought to have respect for them in position and for the position they hold we should value them and love them because of the work they
Do as the Lord’s servants this year we celebrate 24 years of Pastor and Mrs Harris leadership at Mount RH Missionary Baptist Church that is a long time if you if you use wedding anniversary guidelines for anniversaries you’ll see that the 24th year the 24th year the gift theme is musical instruments and
The color theme is lavender we decided that we we would use these themes in recognition and appreciation of Pastor and sister Harris first will address the musical instruments theme as we look at the pastor as the orchestra leader this is a very fitting role because we know
He is blessed with musical Talent both instrumentally and vocally the orchestra leader is known as the conductor it’s the conductor’s job to lead the musicians to keep them working together in at the same tempo to communicate with them and to play a major role in what works are presented
The conductor is also a public face of the orchestra he is also required to be an active uh listener and energetic participant the conductor must study prepare and practice it is his job to balance the sounds of all those playing consider those qualifications of consider consider these qual qualifications of a conductor the
Conductor must be knowledgeable of how the orchestra Works he does not have to play have to be able to play every instrument but he does have to know the sounds know how various instruments are played know the characteristics of each instrument and know special techniques for harmonizing and the various
Instruments and their sounds if you study the employment requirements for conductors you’ll likely come across these words Inspire role model Dynamic approachable challenging motivating current knowledgeable organized selective in promoting effective programming skilled dedicated focused hardworking imp interpretive intuitive Visionary messenger of the com of the composer and
Insightful the conductor must be able to to understand the music and con and to convey it is it so the music the musicians in the orchestra understand it the conductor understands the various sections of Orchestra and attends to each for all to cre create together the desired outcome he knows that the percussion
Sets the Rhythm the brass injects power and volume the woodwinds add so and texture and the strings are the workhorses who give the most humongous sound sounds a lot like the pastor to me as he conducts and leads the church doesn’t need all the the same qualifications qualities skills and knowledge of the

In the garden have you ever had a chance to visit a lavender Garden have you had the chance to see fields of beautiful bluish purple blooms and smell the rich Aroma if you have you’ll realize the truly special thing you are witnessing now think about a lady that today we
Celebrate for 24 years of dedicated service to this church more importantly think about her lifetime Devotion to God and his purpose for her life the color and flower symbolizing 24th anniversary a 24th anniversary is lavender it symbolizes among other things devotion and Grace those are two things we can
Equate with Mrs Harris Mrs Harris is a principled woman who truly commits and devotes her herself to every task she she takes on you can observe her study habits as she prepares for any and every presentation nothing is left to speculation total commitment goes into each concept presented she models what
She teaches in word and In Deed she digs deep and strives to do all that God would have her to do she all she allows God to order her steps and is devoted to him and his word Mrs Harris is also an example of Grace she will admonish when needed
But forgives and help each of us to move forward in in the right way the lavender plant is quite really is really quite multiface multifaceted did you know that it is used for everything from aroma therapy to insect repellent and has been used for everything from ornamental to
Medicinal purposes did you know that sister Harris is also just as multif faceted she has effectively served as a wife mother teacher lecturer mathematician counselor cheerleader and an activist she has Champion championed multiple causes LED numerous auxiliaries and organizations and successfully started and run businesses the lavender
Plan is a perennial that will grow year after year it is able to thrive in poor so soil so how does that equate with Mrs Harr well anyone who knows her knows that she perseveres and thrives in difficult situations she she firmly believes that we should never stop growing and and does so
Herself the lavender plant is said to bre to brighten a living space its Aroma also enhances and generally commands the space it inhabits Mrs Harris have you you have for years commanded the room your presence is Illuminating and you you Al always enhance the space you
Inhabit for example I think of the most the multiple object lessons you have presented during vacation bible school not only have they been interesting and informative they have been thought-provoking and applicable to our lives finally the lavender plant brings Beauty to the world sister Harris so do
You we love you and thank God for the blessing you continue to be in our lives thank you for 24 years in cting um the youth have a little gift for you um we hope that after all that you do you can pamper yourselves a little bit thank [Applause] You Good morning morning I have the pleasure sing a few words on behalf of the deacon Lord and U and know we know the past couple of weeks the pastor has talked about from the 203 number Psalms he talked about people being sheep that we’re we’re sheep is we’re God’s people
And and sheep are no good without a leader without have a Shepherd to help us there we’ve actually have had that with our pastor and our first lady you know a good shepherd has both a rod and it has a um and has a cane with a hook
On it and he uses that that that Rod sometimes to push P us along or when we got our line they get that hook and they pull us back in we’re happy to have that in in our pastor and our first lady you know uh there is a book that all
Academian who are call themselves in leadership like to read it’s called good the great and in that book it talks about two things one the thing is said that good is the enemy of great and that meaning that that sometimes when we’re good we we we forget everything else
We’re happy with being good but if we want to be great we have to keep pushing along and we’re glad that we have individuals to do that um and so so that’s the the the key to this we have someone here uh who’s helping us to to move on and continue to
Be better as Christians uh the other part about good good and great it says a leader looks in the mirror and when they see something wrong they see it in themselves they see something good they see it in others and again we have that and so we’re so
Excited that we’ve had our 24 years here and we’re looking for more and thank you for being our leaders and most of all thank you for your love thank you and I do have a small [Applause] [Applause] Gift amen I think uh as we have our Brotherhood meetings we we read psalms 133 and and it begins with how good and how pleasant it is it is for Brethren to dwell in unity and I appreciate that we strive to be in unity I appreciate that that um that we acknowledge God as our
Head and you as unders sheeper I appreciate that I appreciate that you allow me to uh be who I am and I told you the other night that that I watch you and I thank you I appreciate you I uh um still looking for that meeting amen and uh but
I I thank God that for the last two years that I’ve uh been here that I have grown as you as the pastor I have grown under this ministry thank God that I’m not afraid to be who I am because you tell me to be
Who I am and strive to be who I am in Christ Jesus I love you sister Harris um I appreciate your words of encouragement and on 24 years we celebrate you as the Brotherhood and the brother has something to share with youall I don’t know what that is but I’m
Sure it’ll bless you amen amen so on behalf of our Brotherhood we we we congratulate you on 24 years I I don’t I don’t I don’t I don’t know if God is calling me to be a pastor but I do understand that a pastor would be nothing without acknowledging

The word Pastor P is for preacher God called you to be a is for anointing God gifted you to minister in his leading s is for Shepherd appointing to lead God’s flock T is for teacher who studies and shares God’s word O is for obedience a heart of compliant submission to
Him AA is for righteousness by which you live and are blessed the M Rose Missionary Baptist Church Usher board really appre appreciate you and happy 24th [Applause] Anniversary and I also want to read this to go with it goes with pastors too it say our pastor in in Infinite Wisdom the Lord surely knew that we would need a pastor as faithful as you a love of God’s word and the Heart of his flock
You give up yourself and you stand on the Rock we appreciate you and to our uh pastor’s wife your time and Devotion to the needs of your church family you are always appreciated and your love and support strengthens his word by the positive example you give your Timeless work inspires all and
Teaches us us how to live may God bless your continued service the manrose Missionary Baptist Church appreciates You and to uh Pastor uh um you talked on the you talked on um The Lord Is Our Shepherd and uh I I got some ideas some ideas ran across my mind and I know you’re an alpha got the black hand holding the flower here with the gold hand holding
Here and right in the middle it said um the Lord is the Lord is my shepherd and it has the um scripture right here and it is surrounded by crosses and different things like that and um I hope you enjoyed I had someone to help me

Helped and look at her now my son I appreciate you because you keep me on my toes Miss Harris you say some things to me only you can say and I’m going to let you get away with it but I love both of y’all like y’all are my own parents Joy

Just being a role model of a faithful god-filled woman woman I just appreciate you so much our whole congregation appreciates you and we hope that this morning we just show just a glimpse of just how much we love you how much we care about you and how much we want to
See you around year after year after year so thank you again on your 24th anniversary and thank you for being Who You Are Okay okay I can can I just let let this pass so I’ve got to say something I want to start out by telling you at my house there is a uh uh you know the thing you put on your table and set drinks on top of
Coaster after my my uh illness I miss I lose words but God’s going to bring it back that coer says says you have to you if you didn’t live in Wills Point Texas you wouldn’t understand okay there is a pride that I have with people I’m proud of being associated
With so many wonderful people I if you know me you know I love my brothers and I travel to Wills Point at least every other month before I got sick and so now because of where I came from and the church that I grew up in they everybody
Loved everybody else so because I am from Wills Point Texas says I going to tell you that I love all of you and I thank you so much for what you’ve done showing us that you love [Applause] Us so sister deara excuse me for sitting and having my back turned there’s nothing wrong nothing right about what I just said you don’t you don’t turn your back although there are people in front of me uh listen 24 years is a long time sister Harris is the mathematician in our family and
24 uh from 75 is how much how many brother Curry just just a long time a long time a long time a long time God has been good uh in spite spite of me in spite of us in spite of circumstances and situations God has shown forth his favor
And His blessings upon our time here at uh this great church I’ve seen many leave to go home with to be with the Lord a lot of things have gone on over 24 years a whole lot of things but God has kept us amen and he’s keeping us
Right now I came here saying speak well firstly of the Lord your God and speak well of Mount Rose and the challenge for us right now is that we continue to speak well do you hear me amen you hear me sister Maz speak well of Mount Rose because I
Dare say that ever now and then there are utterings that don’t speak well you hear me I mean what I’m saying speak well of Mount Rose I speak well of Mount why because the church Belongs to the Lord have I got a witness have I got a witness here uhhuh the
Church Belongs to the Lord it ain’t yours and it ain’t mine preacher pastors come and go and I’m going too won’t be there long and there shall be others that come amen but the church Belongs to the Lord he paid the price didn’t he h way out over a Hill Called Calvary
H he hung he bled and he died for Junk like us and mess up folk like us the church Belongs to the Lord has always does now and forever will amen we get hung up Sister Kus in a whole lot of us stuff we better realize that the church
Belongs to the Lord if it had not been for the Lord on any of our sides where brother Joe where would we be I love the Lord’s church and for however many seasons he gives us to be a part of his Fellowship I’ll bless him for it I told sister
