Thank you for listening to my daddy’s Podcast the Unapologetic podcast hey what’s going on it is yours truly TJ Jones and welcome to another edition of the Unapologetic podcast come on in have a seat because we have a lot to discuss on this episode we’re going to be talking a little bit about Cory hulum
And Donell Rollins and the beef between those two Comedians and we’re also going to be talking about fraternities and sororities and a controversial take um by a pastor who took shots at fraternities and sororities uh but I ask that you hit the like button I ask that
You subscribe to the channel uh we’re trying to grow this Channel and uh as you can see it’s going to be uh a channel that is uh filled with a lot of passion um you know I talk a little bit about uh my everyday life here on this
Channel I’m a sports uh guy by trade but there’s so many different uh things that I’m passionate about uh that go on in this world and I just thought that you know it would be a little bit of a different take uh you know talking about something other than Sports what a lot
Of people know me for but let’s go ahead and get into it man talk a little bit about uh Donell Rollins Donell Rollins I’m pretty sure a lot of people know who he is uh Pro probably know him because of uh the Chappelle Show when he played
Ashley Larry that was probably his uh the character a lot of people know him for uh but he had a standup comedy special on Netflix entitled a new day and I checked it out man uh you know I like Donell Rollins I think that he’s an
Extremely funny guy uh I you can tell uh he really takes himself serious he he really goes above and beyond to try to make people laugh uh I checked out an interview that he did on The Breakfast Club and he talked a little bit about you know his standup special and some of
The other things that were going on and one topic uh in particular he talked about was uh a little bit of a back and forth exchange uh with fellow comedian Corey hul uh Corey hul uh has a YouTube channel and a lot of people view his
YouTube channel uh Corey Hokum is a guy who really uh does not shy away uh from uh you know his opinion he’s not a guy that that’s not going to roll any punches he he’s just not going to do it he’s not going to be one of those guys
Who it just concerned about what people think about him and that’s pretty refreshing you know the fact that somebody is very very passionate about uh the way that they feel and some people look at it like he’s basically just doing this just to be a contrarian
Just to get likes and follows but he doesn’t strike me as that type of person like he doesn’t strike me as that type of person but all in all um they had a heated Exchange uh at a comedy club I want to say out in California and U you
Know Cory hul was on stage uh he was the headliner for the night uh Donell Rollins just happened to roll off in the spot and uh you know he got on the mic talked a little bit uh but I think what a lot of people are saying is dariell
Rollins felt offended because Cory Hulan was indeed uh the headliner and uh you know daniell Rollins stuck around for the show where Cory hulin was on stage Cory hul referred to Donell Rollins as mid he also talked a little bit about you know some of the some of the
Practices of uh Comedians and you know uh you know people that get those movie roles and what they have to do for those movie roles a very controversial take uh Danel Rollins took exception to that nobody agree so wrong okay I can be wrong I’m talking about but we we at the
Um what is this called This is the live Factory we was at the se you wouldn’t be able to be up here that long get your ass down I came up in the hardest rooms in Brooklyn and you and you ain’t never just yelling because I don’t have a mic
I can talk to you straight up you want to talk about it you saying I’m mild you saying I ain’t come through the streets or the gutter is straight Bull and if you want to ask somebody ask the mother that you know what I do okay all right
Listen listen just be fair fair conversation Larry no no no no no let’s be fair let’s be fair and real you say you keep it 100 know how I get down how 32 I ripped you RI mik I RI you you you ask any ever see me bomb anybody and you
Anybody that don’t know me I keep gang I don’t I don’t say you no you trying to say I’m a bum I ain’t no bum no I that your is mild it’s mild you know what you know what you know what you doing now you’re a provocator you know how to inite
People ain’t nothing mou about my people look at you you was at the mall put you out with your H dog and guess what and guess what and guess what you can say what you want to say you can say what you want to say you calling me a m comic
Is totally off so you’re a strong I’m a beast I’m a beast I said it before I’m very I I’m a big fan of Donell Rollins I think that he’s very very talented as a comedian but I have never seen a guy a comedian so damn sensitive like for a guy whose
Job is basically to make fun of the things that he see or put things into perspective in a funny way uh he’s extremely sensitive and I I just don’t understand what’s going on in the world of comedians right now it just seems like there’s a lot of Envy animosity
Between The Comedians and I I guess it’s just the fact that when you decide that you’re going to be the comedian your your your primary focus is to make people laugh and you also want to make people laugh the hardest you want people to look forward to seeing you I feel
Like there’s a lot of Envy when it comes to comedians because some of them probably feel like the ones that are up top the ones like the Kevin Harts the Chris rocks the Dave Chappelle maybe they feel like they’re funnier than those guys and I just feel like maybe
Everybody’s journey is not the same Journey like these guys worked really hard to get where they need to be be that as it may maybe they fell into a comedy club where the right person was there on that particular night they saw them and they helped them Elevate their
Career regardless everybody’s story is different and I feel like when I hear like some of these stories from some of these comedians out there you know I just feel like there there’s a level of Envy uh that they have towards other Comedians and I just don’t understand it
Like I don’t know if these guys are just that sensitive or it’s just the fact that they’re just you know mad at the the world in general but Donell Rollins I I’ve seen this before you know I’ve seen him going to breakfast club quite a few times and of course the Breakfast
Club DJ mvy Charlamagne just hilarious who uh just recently became the host you know but envy and Charlamagne in particular like they make fun of Donell Rollins and it just seems like it’s just a it’s just a long running rib here like he doesn’t get the joke but everybody
Else does could y’all stop this [ __ ] sir stop what could y’ stop the [ __ ] stop what on son come on son come on son what you talking about yo this [ __ ] ass is in my seat son his ass is man I I ain’t [ __ ] with this [ __ ] son are supposed to
Be I’m not [ __ ] with that [ __ ] son don’t likees in the seats you’re here to get asses in seats can Carolines all weekend you want asses in all those seats in that com can we get a serious conversation no no let’s have a serious conversation that’s not serious keep get
It away from me son get away from me son and they just come up with these different elaborate ways to just try to tick them off and just make him come out of self and it he just Falls for it every time but I just think that Donell
Rollins to me is dealing with uh self-esteem issues like it just shows you that doesn’t matter like how successful a person is no matter how much money they have no matter what they have going in their life if they deal with self-esteem or you know they got doubts about themselves you know it
Comes out and he just strikes me as the type of person that may was the type of person that maybe got made fun of you know he he talks about his looks he talks about how you know he’s not the most attractive guy and all that kind of stuff I feel like that’s
What people say to kind of deflect and and try to like you know it’s almost like with with B rabbit right Eminem on Eight Mile right when Papa do was about to hit the mic he he beat him to the punch he told him everything that you
Know about himself so he had no bullets in a clip to try to unload on him right because he basically told everybody his truth so I feel like when it comes to Donell Rollins he says those things about himself because I guess he wants people to feel like oh man that stuff
Don’t bother me but the simple fact that he constantly brings that up and how sensitive he is when it comes to certain things when people question his comic comedic ability when people say that he’s not that funny when you know people say that you know he’s not a headliner
Like he is he is ready to talk he is ready to talk he’s ready to express Express himself he’s ready to say the things uh that need to be said you know to try to let everybody know how great he is and look I just feel like if
You’re great you know you’re great there’s no need for you to go out here and try to go 15 20 minutes to tell people how great you are and how people just hating on you so I don’t understand why Daniel Rollins just allow these Comedians and allow people to just
Constantly uh just get in his head like that I mean he is a very successful comedian he he mentioned in his interview with The Breakfast Club how uh his his uh Comedy Special A new day was ranked in the top 10 and U for the fact that you have all those different shows
And all those different uh things going on on Netflix and you are in the top 10 that’s a testament to uh your hard work and your dedication that should be enough and I get it man you you always want the agulation you always want the congratulations you always want people
To talk about how great you are it’s just human nature right when you get up every single single morning and you put everything that you have into what you’re doing we very passionate about it you want people to respect your hustle I I understand that wholeheartedly 100%
But you cannot allow people to have that much power over you and I just feel like darell Rollins has has people with unlimited power over him so I just hope that he can just one day uh just not allow his emotions to get the best of
Him and just be happy with what he has going on because I mean you got a you got a son or you got a wife or you got a A comedy special uh you know you basically uh have the the support of arguably the greatest comedian of the
Modern era in Dave Chappelle so you got a lot of things going for you so why would you you concern yourself with Corey hul and Corey hul is is extremely funny you know he’s a funny guy um and I follow Cory hul not so much as uh you
Know as Darnell Rollins but uh Cory hulum you know I’ve seen him on wilding out I’ve seen some of his standup specials I do feel like he is an acquired taste uh I do feel like is one of those Comedians and he may not say it
Uh but he’s probably a guy who feels like he deserves more than what he’s getting right now and he if you look at some of his comedy specials uh yeah he he’s definitely underrated as a comedian and when you watch guys that you feel like are in that position and they reach
Like a certain level where they can basically just put out anything and people are going to show up like when you reach that iconic status like people are going to show up regardless if you’re funny or not for example like Chris Rock like Chris Rock could call a
Comedy show right now like a popup comedy show and everybody’s going to show up because it’s Chris freaking Rock same thing with da jaelle like same thing with with Kevin Hart people are going to show up and I just think that some of these comedians that have been
Out here for a long time like the fine loves like the Cory hoks uh these guys feel like they got a raw deal they feel like they’re just as funny as some of these other guys the only thing that’s separating them from them I’m talking about the the the lower level comedians
Or what people perceive as the lower level against the high level is the opportunities and you can tell that you know even though I feel like he he believes some of the things that he’s saying it’s not coming from a place he wants to create change is coming from a
Place of animosity and envy and look I can’t even get mad at him for that because that once again that’s just human nature like when I do podcasting I put everything I possibly can into everything that I do every podcast that I put out I try to give
110% and try to let everybody know how passionate I am about what I’m doing and I do see some other people people out there uh that I feel like you know get attention and I wonder to myself sometimes like I’m just as good as them why can’t I get that level of attention
It’s just human nature right and sometimes you know I can’t get upset about that that’s one of the reasons why you know I say that you know I try to pray and you know try to meditate to try to not get in my own head and realize
That this thing is a marathon not a Sprint and I just think that Cory hulum just feels like maybe he got the raw end of the deal from time to time maybe he is happy with his life he’s happy that he can roll up to a comedy uh club and
Be a headliner and he can get these opportunities be on wilding out and all these other things that he has going on but a part of him probably feels like he deserves what Chris Rock has deserves what Donell Rollins is getting deserves what Dave Chappelle is getting and you
Know sometimes that that’s a hard feel to swallow when people are just passing you up and you know he’s a different type of cat also you know he’s not willing to play the game some some guys are willing to grin and bear it to try
To get where they need to be right they they try to you know get in certain circles and they they decide to like kind of go along to get along until they get certain levels of power where they can actually make decisions and that’s fine um but maybe Cory hul he doesn’t
Strike me as a guy that that wants that right he’s not the guy that’s going to uh bend the knee so to speak right he he’s the guy that wants to do things his way and there’s nothing wrong with that but I I learned that people that have a
Little bit of a rogue personality those people that that kind of March to the beat of Their Own Drum sometimes they don’t get uh the opportunities because people feel like they are that that uncaged animal right you can’t reel them in you can’t hold them down but it’s
Also the method to their Madness right it’s a reason why they’re so successful because they don’t care I mean you look at C Williams right now like C Williams went on a club sh Shay with Shannon Shar and talked for about three hours and he told his true and you know everybody
Just saw it right but if you look at cat Williams C Williams is just as funny as some of these other top comedians out there and there was a time when Cat Williams uh was one of the top comedians in the entire world especially like during the time like the the mid uh
2000s you know when you know I was around college and you know just getting out of high school you know C Williams was that guy right I mean you know all these different standup comedy specials that he had and he was that guy and you know when you decide that maybe you know
What they’re asking me to do I don’t feel comfortable with when you start to like make those type of decisions and you start to March to the beat of your own drum you know some people don’t like that they they they probably label you as difficult they they call you uh you
Know a person that you know it’s hard to get along with you know I I tried to give them opportunity but they don’t want to take it so when you have that mind frame and then you see other guys out there making and you feel like you’re just as funny just as talented
It’s it’s a tough pill to sallow but all in all man I just hope that both of these guys uh find peace in their life I hope darell Rollins uh learns to not be as sensitive as he is I hope that he just realized that he’s a dope comedian
And everybody’s not going to like you like you can go out there you can give out turkeys to the homeless you can go out here and give backpacks to to kids going back to school you can give out Christmas gifts on Christmas time and people gonna still be wondering and
Saying oh man they just doing that for a full while they just doing that just to try to get attention what what’s the real motive behind that right so you can never please everybody right you you’re always going to have some detractors so I just think that Darnell Rollins needs
To understand that everybody is not going to like you and as far as Cory hul you know like I can understand his frustration as a comedian being out that long and maybe feeling like you deserve like certain things maybe not getting it and maybe that’s the reason why his
Content is so good because it’s coming from a place of passion and anger and we know that that’s the kind of things that move the needle right now in podcasting it’s about shocking takes hot takes if you will right that that’s the thing that’s moving the needle people want to
Know everybody business being in everybody business want to get see videos where people are telling somebody off right and uh you know that’s the reason I feel like maybe some of his content is so impactful because even though you know he probably is not doing this for nefarious reasons there there’s
Levels of uh anger and frustration inside of him that that’s coming out in a passionate way and uh you know it’s causing him to like be able to be as successful and maybe that’s what he needed maybe that was what he needed was that chip on his shoulder in order to
Kind of push himself to the Forefront and get that attention that he deserves but these two guys are going to figure it out hopefully they you know hopefully uh they can bury the hatchet and you know and you they ain’t got to be best friends or anything like that but
There’s there’s enough comedy for everybody but I want to talk a little bit about something that I seen I was uh checking out YouTube um a couple of days ago and there was this pastor I want to make sure I get his name right his name is Bishop wooden and uh he talked
About uh the divine nine now for those that may not know what the divine nine is the divine nine is uh the nine fraternities and sororities right the the African-American fraternity and sororities mostly you’ll find that hbcus right you got alpha alpha you got alphaa
Alpha you got the Deltas you got the the omegas you got the kappas you got the sigmas the Zetas the sigma gamma Ro and you got the iotas which you know I am I am a member of IA Theta I cross with spring of 2007 OG Ohad but but
Bishop wooden um talked a little bit about uh fraternities and sororities man and he had a very controversial take about fraternities and sororities check this out the other day allowed what is called the divine nine that’s right that’s right that’s to Worship in the sanctuary of his church I wasn’t there
And I would have never known anything about it had he not posted it just as I’m being streamed right now um I realize that and people have something to say and my position is people have miles you can say what you want to that’s I don’t want to speak up for me I
Don’t have to fight my battles God does that but the Christian Church used to believe in the Divine One cesh Atlas feus centor manura Apollo Thor shakina Divine n consist of 16 total Gods I didn’t think that that was but one the greatest verse of scripture in the Old
Testament it’s called the Shima it says know ye Israel that the Lord our God is one God Amen the whole new testament I said the whole Old Testament I mean the whole Old Testament is based on that passage so as you can see uh Bishop wooden did not
Roll any punches here right he did not roll any punches and uh he gave his opinion about what he felt about fraternities and sororities and talking about how they you know how fraternity and sororities worship Idol Gods right um worship them you know and you could
Tell like some people got up and they walked out because there was a part where he was like um you know y’all can at least sit down for the word cuz people were just I guess that upset um first and foremost uh I I know this
Bishop wooden said uh in his sermon that uh he didn’t join a fraternity of sorority which clearly he did not U he he did not join a fraternity or sorority because if he did he will understand that fraternity and sororities don’t worship anything right I I mentioned I I
Am a member a proud member of iify theeta fraternity Incorporated there was not a time when I was going through the process did anybody ask me to honor and praise anything right uh they didn’t ask me to honor and praise the centur you know they didn’t ask me to do that right
But it is just a symbol and of course I’m not going to tell you about that but you know but everybody has their their their rituals and there’s there’s meaning behind certain things and certain practices within fraternity and sororities that only members know right and when you’re on the outside looking
In and you don’t have any experience about this you might end up sounding like you know Bishop wouldn’t is like saying that you shouldn’t have no other God before you I absolutely agree with that right because I believe in God I believe in God I I go to church I’ve been in church
My entire life you know growing up I was in church right but I just feel like people just need to understand that it has nothing to do with devil worship idol worship or anything like that people get into fraternities and sororities number one uh for opportunities right opportunities to be
Able to serve their communities and also for for connections like let just be real like joining a fraternity of sorority can possibly help you find a job get opportunities in this world you know from different individuals that may be a part of the organization you Ed you know
Like I just feel like that was a little bit of a reach and it was definitely coming from somebody that didn’t know anything about fraternities and sorties and I I understand that there are people out there that find religion and then all of a sudden you know they denounce
Their their organizations which I completely do not understand like I do not get it right because I never seen an organization in my humble opinion I ain’t never seen nobody worshiping any uh logo go uh any mythical being that they had so that that was just absolutely ridiculous and
This is one of the main reasons in my opinion why people don’t go to church anymore is because you have judgmental people like Bishop wooden out here who are just judging people and then they’ll probably try to sit up there and try to you know hide behind a word and say it’s
Scripture I ain’t never read a a scripture inside of the Bible talk about uh joining Greek fraternity and sororities and Greek organizations I ain’t never seen anything like that but I did see in the Bible talking about loving your neighbor I did see in the
Bible that we all have sin to come short of the glory of God I did see in the Bible where they say judge not let ye let ye be not judged I I do see in the Bible where I only know that two people in an entire Bible were perfect and
There were job and Jesus so how in the world can somebody sit up there in a pull pit and say that they’re actually preaching gospel but at the same time they’re judging individuals about situations they know absolutely nothing about about and the crazy thing about it is you’re actually preaching about Jesus
But if you look at it it’s the same reason why Jesus got crucified is because people did not understand Jesus and who he was they he did not understand it they rather just take it with a grain of salt they basically made this this cocking M story about Jesus
Tearing down the temple right like is just absolutely ridiculous so you’re actually you’re you’re actually teaching people about an individual who was crucified and judged by people that didn’t understand him and didn’t even meet him right just heard about him and it’s the same exact thing what they’re doing when it comes
To fraternities and sororities it it is absolutely ridiculous once again this is the reason why the churches are empty this is the reason why you have a disconnect between the older generation and the younger generation you got the older generation that feel feels like at times and I’m just being honest they
Feel like they know everything and they don’t feel like they can learn anything from anybody young but you have to be able to have these type of conversations and as long as you have individuals like Bishop wooden who put themselves at the top of Mount Si so
They can look down on everybody you’re going to constantly have problems when it comes to the church and I’m just sick and tired of like you know ministers trying to say that they actually quoting scripture and they they’re following scripture no you’re not you’re basically judging individuals you know like you’re
Judging individuals and you’re judging people based on things that you know absolutely nothing about he didn’t join a fraternity it would be one thing if he actually joined one he seen some practices he didn’t like it and then you can have you know a gripe about it
Because you actually seen it but you you made an entire sermon off hear sake maybe he’s upset maybe when he said that he he had opportunity to join a a fraternity maybe he just start like he did or maybe they rejected him so he got
Upset and maybe this is a vengful uh you know word or anything like or something like that but I don’t know what it is but all I know is you’re not going to be able to you know get people into the church when they feel like they being
Judged look you you can tell people that they’re wrong you know that there’s nothing wrong with that but at the same time there there’s a way of doing it and uh when you don’t know something about something and you’re still preaching about it as if you do you sound
Ridiculous uh to me it’s a slap in the face to everybody out there that that really works hard to try to find connections uh within the church maybe somebody in there is lost maybe somebody in there is misguided but I can tell you this you’re not going to be able to
