Uh for proposition to go up at our next uh our next uh time of voting in May is there any other discussion surrounding this I I will say this it’s it’s been a long time coming it’s been a long time coming and I think it’s it’s um an awesome
Awesome way for us to give um our students our students our Scholars our students um another Avenue and another voice and so once this is done going into the new school year I think it’s going to do nothing more than enhance um this board and enhance this District so
Um we’ve heard the discussion all in favor I opposed thank you it so passes all right we’ve got through we’ve got through all the action items we’re going to move on to uh board member recognitions and our community updates um I want to invite um uh Mrs Fran

Said to him well I graduated with Pastor Williams brother so I don’t know who won you won you won I’m not talking my age oh so oh I think then slide needs to advance okay there we go hello everyone my name is Devon mcneel as you already know I’m your
Junior class president I’m here to give some information on the 2024 Prime the pre date is Friday May 24th 2024 the Friday before Memorial Day our theme is night of a thousand lights very great theme I feel like everybody would take a like into it just like
Me the location is the Villa Venia very great venue I think people will also take a lik that that too that’s very very great venue been happening there for years okay and the time of arrival is 5:45 p.m. for checkin the hour of light snacks 5:44 excuse me 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. dinner
At 6:45 p.m. serving at 8 I mean excuse me serving at 7:00 p.m. dancing begins at 8:30 p.m. ceremony at 10:20 p.m. and ends at 11: p.m. I’ll pass it on to the secretary now to give you prices for the tickets hello so our prices for MHS
Students is going to be $90 and then for outside guests it’s $95 we’re taking uh the payments in cash or money orders and for money orders they’ll be done through the post office so make sure you contact through there and then for our tickets there’s not they’re non-refundable and our
Tickets are going to be sold through April 2nd to May 9th and you need to have your prom packet done before you go to purchase tickets you would need to be approved so for a prom packet like I said they’ll be available they’re available now um from 1 we’ll be hanging
Them out you can find them in your house uh so prom packes are available for 11th and 12th graders if you are a sophomore and freshman interested in going to prom you will need to accompany a upper classman 11th or 12th grader as their guest yeah next up okay
Um at the day of prom there will be a mandatory meeting it will be held in school on the Friday it’ll be from 10:35 to 11:35 in the auditorium all students must attend the meeting if they don’t attend the meeting they will not be able to enter
Prom um if they would like to leave after the meeting they can but they have to fill out a permission s and have it signed by a parent or guardian and this would be um added to their prom packet um prom is a okay and I’ll give it to him
More so prom will be a privilege and you know that can be revoked at any time and any um any place so you have to be academically standing as an 11th or 12th grader um all passing all classes with a 65 or higher um if you are if you have been
Suspended for a longer like a long period amount of time you cannot attend if you had um a superintendent hearing you cannot attend the prom and you have to have good attendance you cannot attend if you had um issues with attendance and yes thank you thank you
If you’re trying to bring a guest outside of the Middletown District they will be having to um fill out a different um permission sheet that is not included in the general prom packet and all outside guests must be vetted for seaing information on May 1st there will be
A there will be a Google dog posted for students who to create their own group seating arrangements there are only 12 students per table like as the limit so therefore students can create a group setting a maximum of 12 students and please keep note that this school doc will like
What the last day to hand in your seaing assignment will be on May 13th and if you do not fill out this form you will have to be sitting with other people watch your table students must have the following completed form prior to submitting the the prom seaing Arrangement Google form
So your prom packet must be submitted both you and your guest must be approved by an administrator to go to prom and you must have already paid the prom fee as for um um getting to prom students and their guests cannot drive themselves the prom um they have a
Choice of options they can have a parent or Guardian filled out in the prom packet that will bring them to prom or any limousine company but also the school offers the mid city bus as a free of charge transport for students to from the high school to prom
So we will start selling tickets the AIL April 2nd the first day back from spring break so April 9th you’ll be able to you know nominate who you want for king um yes King and Prince king queen prince and princess and the 18th will be the last day to handle your nominations
Through Google form in the Google Classroom stated before and in April 23rd the nominee for the prom 2024 it will be announced on May 1st the seeing document is released May 6th is the last day to hand in your prom packets May 9th is the last day to buy prompt tickets May 13th
Is the last day to hand in the seating document the list of where you list the people for your table and May 24th is the day of prom okay so this slide contains the important links like the prom packet and everything else you would need to sign up to go to prom
Okay so for the important information from the slides from this presentation that you need to remember is that you need to hand in your prom pocket as soon as possible although like we do have a deadline for the prom packets you need to get your ticket as soon as possible
Because there is a limited guest our limit is going to be 500 people so if that fills up before the final due date of buying tickets or the sale of tickets they they will be cut short so you won’t be able to purchase a ticket I’m here to announce our
Fundraiser that we’re collectively running at the junior class Council um with Texas Roadhouse 10 um mean 10% donation night MHS uh junior class prom would like to invite you to Texas Roadhouse presid uh present this fire to 10% of your total food purchase excuse me 10 and 10% of your total food purchases
Will be donated to MHS class prom the price for holding a prom has increased as a result we’ve had to increase the pr the price of a pre ticket to offset some of the increased cost the junior class are having a fundraiser at Texas Roadhouse on the
Night of the parent uh conference night for MHS we would like all to attend this fly will be posted on our website please come out and support our students attending the 2024 prom that’s it all right thank you so much so we uh we have given everyone a
Flyer yes at your table we um extra flyers for the fundraiser can be uh that will be available right outside our security office so anyone at home who who wants to you know you probably I think you need the flyer when you go to Texas Roadhouse and you go to you know
Give this to your server as you pay your bill and make sure that you know whatever your your bill is they will take 10% and that will kick back to us to for our prom costs all right any questions yes I do have one I’m confused
$90 a person is that correct one person that’s not a couple correct and so I was confused by the $95 so I go and I bring someone from out of the district as my date then that’s the 95 correct okay correct thank you no thank you yes the price has gone up
Because you know other things have gone up in our cost so we had to up our fee sure sorry my first question is can you order can you pick up I believe you can or if you’re gonna pick up yes bring it and pick up you can call and say you’re
Yes okay but when but if you’re going to go pick up you’re bringing this with you right right okay good yeah yeah that’s what I’m asking because I know that you know sometimes the line can get really long um so if you can just order it
Ahead and if you can order your food and pick it up if you get 10% also um that would I think a lot of people would take advantage of that yes thank you um just make sure that you can’t do that uh the second question is I noticed one thing
That I hadn’t noticed before and I’m sure there have been um the rules have been in place for a long time but one of the rules was you can’t have been um suspended for more than three days in what period of time is that the goal for an event like this is
Really to try and be as inclusive as possible so the cohort principals the associate principal and executive principal really do a lot to create individual plans to make sure that everybody has an opportunity to attend provided that they’re in good standing um you know it certainly isn’t if you were
Suspended you know at the beginning of the year so they really work on a onetoone basis okay within the year basically not like in your career School career thank you have fun oh thank you and just to uh make it clear for the guest there are uh a for there’s a uh
The the for the guests if outside of Middletown have their separate um form to fill out so it’s not included in the packet and that was said but I just wanted to make sure people understand that so if someone is inviting a guest who is not a Middletown student they
Need that separate uh form Mrs somebody from an outside guess has to be invited by a Middletown student they just can’t come on their own right or of yes yes you’re correct any other questions um Mr oh Mr Pino Mr Pino Mr Pino and then Mr
Williams thank you uh just uh more of a comment than a question I know this requires a massive amount of work to arrange this and you’ve been doing a fine job for so many many years and I want to compliment the students here tonight the excellent presentation nice [Applause]
Job and it appears he students are Juniors so they may be candidates for the uh student seat on the board of education that would be awesome I remember when I went to Sunni orange I was the student trustee so I heard I was listening to this it you know good fond
Memories of of being in that position so yes I was kind of nudging that when did you start planning this Mrs cookman when did it begin the prom no when did you start planning for this because I see all this wors oh I don’t know it’s it’s
For a while a little bit it’s been some time and but they all pitched in they all pitched in when I when I started working on it they said we want our our slides to be pretty and they kind of changeed some things up for me I I know sometimes I when I
Arrive at the meetings at 5:00 pm or a little before Mrs Glickman is still here working and so she’s really a hard worker and thank you another one of our very dedicated staff members thank you what you do any other questions okay thank you Mr Glickman and all you guys did a great
Job um a question you have a good amount of copies of these up so I have a business and I wanted to know if I would be able to get a decent amount to leaving my business CU there’s a lot of walk-in traffic right in the middle of
Town um my gosh yes okay I just want to make sure yes you could take the stack that’s on the table I got you all right we’ll pick up some of the ones that we left on the seats I don’t know Mike I don’t know get the word out yep
Absolutely thank you so much U yes one more thing oh there you are I just want to say wonderful job everyone I was just wondering if any way we can support you guys outside of um you know supporting um uh the finances of of of ordering from um the um Roadhouse up and
Do you might need um um people to uh chaperon that’s the word I’m looking for we would love for you to come to our prom yes it’s a lot of fun it’s going to be great I’ll be there yeah yes and your wife too and I stay and clean up
Afterwards too oh yes especially when we had it here in the gym remember 2021 yes we can have that conversation okay all right thank you any other questions I think we’re good all right thank you so much thank you so much everybody for having us did an amazing
Job thank you so much to my junior class officers we’re going to uh we’re going to move on to our uh Community updates from the Board of Education uh you know I’ve asked everybody if we could if we could expedite and and um be brief so
I’m going to start over at this end of the table with Mr Mitchell Williams uh thank you Mr President um for the community reports I just want to just uh congratulate all the young people for the great things that have been going on in the district as well as
Uh far as with academics and as well as sports but right now I just want to highlight Mr Ste Stefan mie for being number one in the state it was just such a great time celebrating him and watching him win and then he ran to his dad the whole town
Was caught up in the moment yes we were just congratulations to the great uh job that uh Crystal and Stephenson have done with that young man um I also want to highlight the women’s empowerment evening which was great I heard nothing but great things about it um I think
That just getting the young people in involved in building that camaraderie and empowerment is just a great thing um also in the community we had uh a men’s game night um which men we came and we played games and it was a nice time Kevin wit was there good seeing you and
Uh we will be doing that monthly just for us to just come together play games have a good time and Saturday this Saturday we have MHS versus Middletown Police Department in basketball that’s Saturday from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. please come out and support our youth
And uh that’s all I have awesome thank you sir going over going over to uh Miss Romero as always I want to commend um principal brookens for doing a great job I will second what Mitch said about Stefan he did an amazing job and congratulations to the parents you’re
Doing great things for your son um and that’s it for today thank you thank you Mr rero Mr Pino okay I’m going to be brief because a number of people want to see the State of the Union M tonight so I was going to compliment stepan also
And that’s the first time since I believe 1998 that we’ve had a state wrestling champion and stepan has a full scholarship to Sunni at Buffalo you be and what very well deserved uh another event that that’s coming up that our students will be performing in is the or
Will be helping is the March 23rd Kanas pancake breakfast held at Middletown High School it’s going to be from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. and it’s going to be pancakes and all the trimmings they have Raffles it’s a very nice uh morning uh the kuas the uh the Key Club will be
There serving uh the quanis Club Middletown quanis Club supports the Key Club in both the high school and middle schools the Honor Society Middletown Honor Society will be there as well as njrc I have two more minutes left and I think next time I’m going to start out
With I want to do it tonight I’m not going to do it now I want to start off with the excellent uh uh program that Nicole brookens had at the Twin Towers on uh black history is just great and I’ll talk about that next time since we’re a little pressed for time awesome
Thank you Mr Pino M uh Mr bison thank you Pastor Williams everyone knows where I was last Saturday I was down at Goan for the OM competition and all I can say is that we can be very proud of the three teams that competed we had uh monhagen
Division 2 their problem was on the drive-in movie theme we had two teams from the high school a robotics team as well as a I think it was called The Rocking World detour that was a division three this is the slides from monhagen the judges even get involved because it
Was a drive-in theme so that was one of the judges um one of our students Route 66 they did all of the scenery um was all created by the students our students again they were just absolutely amazing a judge speaking to the group you can see the one in the middle
Is playing her violin they uh were able to manage to get that into their scheme I and that’s the team couple of people there that really aren’t team members but we won’t say anything very important people though our superintendent and our assistant superintendent um I I have to give the
Kids a tremendous amount of credit as well as the coaches this is not a one- day a week meeting these kids start in back in October to try out and they are working continuously until this presentation as well as the coaches it’s not just a one day a week for the
Coaches either um there’s a budget $120 they’re allowed to spend on their Mick that’s why you see many of the things being handmade I will not tell you what their automobile was but it blew my mind the creativity to get that automobile to move and mo monhagen is going to
Syracuse April 12th and 13th uh one of the things where we um and all teams the spontaneous is very very difficult we were top in the creative part and I think we lost a half a point there was a half a point difference between first and
Second um it just was uh I can’t say enough it’s been uh my pride and joy since being on this board and it will continue to be so I thank everyone who participated and for this district for supporting our om teams thank you thank you Mr yes good
Evening um I was part of a culminating activity at the high school Black History Month um presentation where we exposed Scholars to um college campus life which involved uh sororities and fraternities uh it was a good turnout um we had quite a few um students that came
Out to get information um it’s otherwise known as the divine nine we had six of the divine nine um and actually um quite a few of the um teachers and and administration are members uh including um that group right there picture is worth a thousand words we had several
Members there and um it was a nice turnout um what do organizations that’s my organization Ali Alice the first black organization it was um established in 1906 and again um um we were the first so it was um our our model was uh first of all Servants of all and we
Transcends all so um other organizations followed after that um some of the highlights that we really talked about was that when we went to college we did not know if anything not much at all about uh fraternities and sororities and what they do is um they Advocate and support
Scholarship community service and just building leaders and so again um it was just a wonderful experience and um we was just happy to be able to roll it out to the students thank you oh one more thing um I wanted to acknowledge also the chamber singers last night who was
At um uh the night before at um the mayor jod Stephano’s U state of the city uh I think that picture might be coming up they did a wonderful job um representing our Middletown School District there they go yay okay thank you thank you sir um uh Miss uh Paula
Bloom now thank you uh thank you um Mr Freddy Williams good evening um like to salute uh Stefan once again and the whole mree family I was in the uh Board office the day after was it the day after and oh it was like two days after
Yeah a couple days after and it was awesome to see um a lot of people within the District employees and um coming to congratulate um Mrs Crystal mere and uh it just showed like it had that Village feel you know when everybody comes together and celebrates together and I
Thought that was really cool while I was there maybe for an hour I seen like five or six people from the district come in and congratulate you guys and I just want to salute you guys again for a job well done raising a great young man
Besides him being a beast on the mat he is such a great young man and um we just want to give you guys a a shout on that thank you yes that’s it agreed great absolutely I think we all agree we all agree um and congratulate um Stefan and
The moner family and um Middletown the coaches the coaches everyone we we we we celebrate them and uh uh you know and just real briefly um we we’ve been blessed we we’ve got some wonderful great programs but our athletic programs are really wonderful um our academic programs are wonderful we we have we
Have um uh scholar athletes that are excelling um we have they’re going they’re going to uh sections they’re going to States they’re going to Nationals they’re going to different places and so we celebrate all of them and at a later time in the year we’re going to we’re going to be celebrating
More of our more of our athletic groups so um that’s all I have to to say um tonight because we’re we’re um we’re trying to to expedite so thank you thank you everybody one thing yes I just wanted to comment on the all district chorus last night at the high school phenomenal to
See the high school students come on do their presentation under Mr Bennett then the Middle School came on and the high school stayed and so then we combined those and then we brought on the elementary schools and to see from grade three or grade four up to 12th grade and
Their voices all combined it was extremely moving phenomenal presentation I think Mr wit was going to put some pictures on the school district’s um homepage so uh thank you but it it was phenomenal to that to that note also um while you’re talking about the course the previous night um the orchestra the
Orchestra ra um all district Orchestra also um performed and did the same did the same thing so um Kudos that’s what I’m saying we have so many wonderful programs here and um I mean from music they said there are 800 kids in our Strings program 800 just remember this for those of us
That have been here for a little while on the board myself Mrs Blum now Mr Pino um Mr Bon um you remember um just just eight years ago we were at 400 and we thought that that was phenomenal so watch this program this program is growing a Strings program that is
Growing in in a in a district that is predominantly black and brown that some years ago they said it would not work in this District but it has excelled and soared and so um kudos to all of our wonderful programs Mr Perino real quick when we started that started that
Program in 2007 yes sir sir and as you mentioned uh president Williams people said it’s not going to work in this District uh students are going not going to take advantage of it uh parents aren’t going to encourage the students but they were wrong to today as you
Mentioned I heard the number was 770 but I’m not going to equival about 30 30 students uh so yep it’s a a great program and the uh individual who started the uh program is uh is still with us uh today uh so so so congratulations to all of our programs
So don’t thank you everybody let’s move on to our public participation um opportunity to address the board the board will designate a portion of its meeting agenda to public comment for a period of up to 40 minutes each speaker will be allowed up to four minutes the public is not permitted to discuss
Topics or matters involving specific individuals speakers must sign in prior to speaking and speakers are not permitted to seed their times time to other speakers is there anybody tonight who would like to take advantage of this opportunity to I’m sorry say that again and yes please please and um uh uh
Miss Miss Romero would you please read that same uh statement in Spanish please yeah thank you um thank you is anybody who uh like to step up to the podium and have there four minutes going once twice well thank you everybody thank you everybody we’re going to move on uh we
Have no letters tonight um we will have a letter at the next at the next board meeting um but U moving on we’re going to turn into the hands of our superintendent uh Mrs Amy ceden for our superintendent updates good evening thank you board of education for giving us this opportunity
To present to you our budget proposal for um the instructional component of the budget which takes up about 58% of the total budget so just an opportunity to see some wonderful images of our young people and our staff across the district um a reminder that always all
Of the work that we do is connected to our strateg IC plan which is deeply rooted in the board’s Mission um vision and values um to remind the community our strategic PL plan which was presented back in um the fall in year two um focuses on five main tiers communication
A multi-tiered systems of support or mtss attendance the domains of safety and a new code of conduct and continued educator development so each of the components of the budget that we present have tethers to the Mission Vision and values and our strategic plan priorities as we begin um to develop the
Budget um this is a slide that you see us kind of talk about the budget development process each time just to continue to remind you that when we come before you tonight we’re just the voices that are here present but that the budget is coming together um as a result
Of many many opportunities to dig into our community our our schools our programs um our families our young people and that comes in many different um fors it comes in PTO meetings it comes in um you know Board of Education members and the Outreach you do in communities and in spaces um meetings
With elected officials our families um the professionals that we advise with in our audit committee our financial advisers um the survey data that we gather um Family conversations um what our actual academic data is telling us right that all is used to drive um the decisions that we make around budget
Development again tonight’s component is instructional and is 58% of the total budget and when we are sitting down um in early fall to plan out um uh what we are going to be considering uh these are the budgeting assumptions that we bring to the table um that includes the
Consumer Price Index which you’re hearing everybody talking about about um nationally as you know the tax cap um our mandated TRS um and ERS components and then health insurance premiums and it’s important to note that um we made a significant shift um this winter um and
Went from um s being self-insured um to uh joining with a Consortium with the orango health plan uh in addition bosei services are again mandated or contra actual salaries um we have this year the voter approved bosis Capital project which is a component for us to consider as we’re
Thinking long range planning and our commitment to that as well as um the governor’s budget right so Foundation Aid and what’s important to note there is that we have for two decades been um significantly underfunded and yet again we find ourselves in that same space um
This year uh we were promised um if you can go back about two years that we would become whole um and so you know after we are you know spending close to two decades where we are significantly underfunded um you know it’s disappointing that we are you know um
Just beginning to dig ourselves out of the repercussions of being um significantly underfunded for so many years and now here we stand before you again um you know uh we could never have predicted where we would be as a result of the academic social emotional and mental health needs um from the covid
Pandemic and we are already starting out with the governor’s Proposal with a $2 million short based on um what we planned for which was to be fully funded so what that icon there number nine is representing is that um you know in our district right that $2 million is a
Significant amount of of money um we are doing everything we can to dig into um the budget with a fine toothcomb to make sure that we can continue to meet the promise that we made to this community with programs and services all by seeing some um fluctuation with our enrollment
You know if you look at our enrollment month to month you see that it is some months down a little bit and then other months up a little bit so generally speaking what we are communicating about our enrollment is that we’re pretty stable um but where we’re not seeing
Ability is in our high cost student enrollment we are seeing that where the students are increasing in enrollment is through our enl and sswd or special education um young people which is what we call our um high cost enrollment student um number 10 is um you know
Again like we’re just going back to um significantly underfunded mandates so while the um New York State educ ation Department puts in place um you know mandates for a school district uh but then lacks the funding to appropriately support that and then this we’ve identified just one example um there are
Many um this one is the zero emission buses but it runs the gamut and spance academic outcomes as they increase academic outcomes or standards for us to meet a gap for us to close um there isn’t funding that um is always associated with that and um you know our
Young people have significant needs and different districts require different things and so for a small City School District like ours um uh being underfunded is um a dramatic impact okay thank you M green um so now we’ll dig a little bit into the actual numbers of the budget um as we were
Discussed a little bit earlier this is the biggest component of all our budgets about 58% it’s going to be a little bit over $150 million um you know we have over 750 um uh teaching staff members um and this includes this budget here includes like our transportation our computers field trips Athletics um
Theater um psychologists guidance counselors special education regular school um it runs a gamut of a lot of things ctec um so this this component takes a lot of time and a lot of effort and a lot of really digging in and listening of um what people want like do
They want field trips do they want do we need more Transportation do we need more staff do we need more service is from bosis so this one um it’s a big uh chunk of the budget and so I feel pretty good now that I’ve actually got to this point
Um so you’ll see in some of them uh the inservice training you’ll see some of them will have like a big negative um number it doesn’t mean that we’re cutting stuff it means we’re just realigning um to a proper code um so that because the state um State
Education department requires us to have certain codes for certain services so we’re just realigning we haven’t cut any services in this budget at this moment so as you can see our regular school uh increased um a little bit over 9% to about $73 million that includes all our
Um uh teaching staffs K through 12 includes our um you know fed art music all those types of things as well and then special education is increased a little bit over 3% that’s our in District occupational education um about 133% the B’s charges uh we’re sending
About 450 students down to CCH a year uh and so that’s um you know that cost increases every year with bosis uh we have our special schools which is winter school and summer school um so we have a little bit of an increase there uh although some of our grant funding will
Take care of some of the um summer school this year that’s why that number is a little bit lower than it normally has been in the past um our instructional media um and computer assisted technology um if you look at the fine lines in the detailed budget uh
The computer syst didn’t grow much because we moved some some money out of there uh we had some position shifts and things like that so we were able to save a few bucks there um one of our big things here uh is our guidance Services um we actually
Had like a little bit of a decrease and that’s just based on um people moving around inside the district um health services that continues to grow for us we’re adding nurses and and staff like that um RNs more full-time staff to help the um the growing demand of students
Needs in the nurse’s office um we have Psychological Services our social work Services pupil Personnel Services um they all saw a little bit of an increase other than the pupil personnel and that’s really just moving money um moving positions to different allocations right we haven’t caught anything and just really digging into
What the salaries and what their needs are in that department um our co-curricular activities um that stay the same our inter Scholastic uh has grown a little bit we’re adding more teams we’re adding more uh bus transportation for those teams and we actually added stiens for
Those um those coaches that are able to go on and participate in after season um play our people Transportation has grown a little bit um that’s usually run by the CPI um but right now we feel that that includes all special ed programming and um Regular Transportation um and then our tuition
And transfer to food service and transfer to a special Aid has all stayed the same our to our transfer Food Services is a couple things one is I think probably 15 years ago the district committed to buying boards head C cuts for the district so the district said
We’re going to allocate some funds the other part of it is we need to allocate funds U for all the free and reduced um applications that they manage and so we provide that type of funding for them so that’s why we we that’s why we keep that
Number at that uh level right there so when we do all get through the whole instructional budget we’re at about 152 mil 630,000 6 $34 up 5.9% from last year’s budget and really a lot of it is contractual U some of it is um you know adding more field
Trips or doing some different things inside the um budget and if we look at over the past year the amount of staff that we’ve hired um has really increased and that’s what driving the budget for us right now so um that’s what I have there okay you do that yes yep
Um I just want to go back to one side though just to sort of highlight what Mr Tuttle was talking about in terms of like relating um the budget code to the services and needs we have like if you looked at this slide here and saw our
Social work services and you’d see um the you know large increase right that is because we are putting so much money to connect to the Gap that exists for the mental health needs that our community um you know has made a commitment to support so that’s how you
Bring in the Strategic plan priorities the needs of our young people and then the budget that’s how you connect it all together um so what we just want to highlight here is that we want to thank the community that has participated in um our community engagement um coming up
Next we have um a virtual lunch break option so if you can’t join us for an in-person meeting but want to dig in the budget ask some questions um get a recap we um invite you to use your lunch break to join us virtually um and if you would
Like to come meet Mr and I in person um we’ll be here the same day on April 10th um right here at the high school and the media center at 6 p.m. so we hope you join us for one of those um opportunities you can ask any question
You want don’t forget that we still have that email address Budget ecm.pdf um capital in benefits and then we’re just giving you kind of a look at what the timeline looks like moving ahead as we lean closer to um super Tuesday which is May 21st we just wanted to give you an
Opportunity to thank our um Board of Education our Board of Trustees um and our community um for their continued support um and remind um Everybody why we are here as Mr Tuttle spoke about earlier um the increases in our inter classic athletic budget and this is the perfect example up here Middletown came
Through the this year with an all female wrestling team which is a brand new team and something you should be really proud about and then just some other examples of um our academic programming um and uh Fine Arts and then just to remind the community that the board will be hosting
Their meet the candidate night on uh May 15th at uh 7M where’s that located here that is going to be here in the library media center awesome um are there any questions yes yes ma’am sorry Pastor uh on the um special schools 2330 that does not include an
Alternative school is that correct just that’s summer school and winter school right now so right now what we’re um we still have grant money for summer summer the summer school so we need to fund a little bit uh through the general fund as well so thought about for next
Year uh superintendent ceden yes absolutely okay the other thing under tuition is that for students that we have in our district that may be transported for various reasons to another or is it for our students with special needs um the tuition um which number are you talking about this one
Right so that’s really for that’s for staff so in other words if they go to training PD uh contractual stuff inside the administrator’s contracts and things like that we paid their tuition to go to those courses okay so you now I thought it was something so thank you for the
Clarification there okay that’s okay anybody anybody else go Mr fro yeah no go ahead turn your um turn your mic on yes sir I know we have a number of components a number of groups that work with us in the district uh one of the groups that I understand provide valuable Services educational
Elements is that in the instructional budget or is that in the uh administrative budget yeah it depends on the type of PD or the support they’re utilizing but that’s also a Bose service so we receive Aid back on that so it’s a coer that goes through bosis okay so we get uh
That is closer then yeah so we get Aid back on on that okay yeah what is the cost of that it would depend on the budget line or the particular category that you were referring to um they provide um for example um they provide uh a personalized learning um Fellowship
Support and we have 130 Educators enrolled in the personalized learning Summit so um you couldn’t look at that uh by a per person but more like the whole year work that they’re doing with that group I’ve heard many good things about that uh group coming in so thank you you’re
Welcome awesome thank you um and you got you got you got the next um Mrs adoma is coming at this time good evening tonight we want to to share with the Board of Education and the community some experiences that our fifth graders had an opportunity to participate and with our Scholars and
Staff at monhagen Middle School Twin Towers Middle School and Midtown high school we are fortunate to have about 10 teachers working in working on their administrative internship with us this year two of these administrative interns are John fby and Paul fitland Mr fby is a project Le the way teacher here at
Midtown high school and Mr boyland is a math teacher at Twin Towers Middle School they are both part of the educational leadership program at Long Island University together they worked with elementary middle and high school staff to improve the transition of our fifth graders to the middle school with a trip
To miltown high school in December and to hear about the eighth graders and to hear from a graders about the Middle School experience about two weeks ago or last week and so I’m going to turn over to Mr Whitland and Mr fenby uh president Williams superintendent Cen Board of Ed thanks
For allowing us this opportunity to speak about these events that we organized um so the first one we’re going to speak about is a fifth grade high school trip um so we really decided to organize this to um give opportunities for vertical alignment for our Scholars um
In here we see a picture of the midi the marching mid’s drum line that welcomed each middle or Elementary School fifth graders as a arrived at the high school and on the bottom you can see Dr Connell one of the stem instructional leaders at the high school addressing in this room
Right here all of the fifth graders from Carter um so first of all the idea behind this event was we wanted to include all the fifth graders from all four elementary schools which involved us planning three different days one for William a Carter one for Maple Hill
Along with the annex and one for Presidential Park uh Elementary um and we we wanted to introduce the scholars to this High School environment because there’s amazing facilities here including this room here the collab space the broadcast Academy and we really wanted to give a a wow factor to these fifth graders to
Show them what they have to look forward to up here in the high school and we wanted to motivate those fifth graders to Aspire to set goals about their educational future so in order to do that we decided to kind of Center this around the academies that are offered up
Here which growing up in this area working in this area for while is truly amazing what we offer the kids here at the high school and we wanted to give the fifth graders a chance to um see that and experience that to give them that uh that future to look forward to
Um and from the beginning we decided we did just want to tell them about these acmis or what’s offered for them but we wanted to create uh interactive sessions where these fifth graders got to work alongside um high schoolers that are in theis so they can experience and see
What it’s like to uh take part in these academies and now Mr fenby is going to share exactly what these fifth graders did with the high schoolers so first of all all the academy stations were completely student Le the teachers were there just to facilitate the High School Scholars
Really took control and led the stations for all the elementary a Scholars so first of all I was part of the engineering Academy which is a RIT r Chester Institute of Technology accredited program as the high school students go through the program they receive RIT credit uh here in the
Engineering Academy we explored Math and how it is interconnected with engineering we began this the session by explaining to fifth graders in the elementary school you learn how to do math here in the high school especially in the engineering Academy you learn why we’re doing the math we did this by
Exploring a CAD program creating 3D modeling using 3D modeling software to create solid models of objects following this Mrs Miss Jess Guthrie in the computer science academy uh she showed this is It’s a Sienna College accredited program here the students the High School Scholars led the elementary age scholars in a
Block-based program to create a game using a platform jumps she also had a station set up where the younger Scholars got to explore snap circuits it’s the picture on the bottom right following that downstairs from where we are now in the broadcast Media Center uh the broadcast Academy led by
Mr Michael Jones which is a program accredited through Mount St Mary downstairs the younger Scholars were able to put on a mock news report by filling in for different stations including camera we can see some Scholars on camera on screen talent and stations inside the control room while
They were waiting their turn to enter the control room Mr Jones had a screen setup but the younger Scholars were able to view video projects from our entrylevel video production course in the media center here miss Martha Brunell ran the biomedical Sciences Academy that’s another program credited through
Rit in our biomedical Sciences Academy Miss Bernell had different substations set up for Scholars to experience aspects of possible biomedical careers among these were lap laparoscopic surgery simulation VI handling different bones and everyone’s favorite was dissecting a sheep eyeball one thing I learned Miss Bernell goes to the butcher
Couple days before these events and she would buy the organs so the students would have them fresh uh lastly the Contemporary issues in education Miss Angela Robinson this is a course accredited through Sienna uh in this our future Educators led many lessons to the fifth grade Scholars these lessons included typing
And uh thematic readings what I found really impressive about what Miss Robinson did a the day after this event in her classroom she had her own students self-reflect on their lesson and do uh domain four the Danielson rubric and it’s a great example of connecting education to real world
Experiences uh big thank you Mr guy Johansson the marching mid’s director the teachers I mentioned our custodial staff here at the high school mid city transit for getting the students here uh High School administration Mr Billy Donahue Miss Dr Len Williams a lot of sit down conversations with those two
And my mentor Dr Norville Connell was more than just a district assigned Mentor he’s a blessing to this district and he’s a man I aspire to be someday as you all very well aware of how important he is all right so some some key takeaways uh from this event number one first and
Foremost that really struck me is how amazing our middle school or sorry our High School Scholars truly are uh being a middle school teacher I teach 8th grade so they leave just as they’re kind of maturing into young adults and to see some of my Scholars now in 9th 10th 11th
12th grade like the amazing stuff they were able to do with these fifth graders um it really shows that they’re they’re articulate they’re knowledgeable and just an inspiration to our young younger um fifth graders this the fifth grade Scholars were truly inspired and excited I heard from many colleagues in
Elementary schools that the kids were talking about this for days after saying I want to be an engineer I want to be a nurse stuff like that so it really it really inspired and excited them and some of the fifth grade teachers actually had their kids write letters to
The High School Scholars and Mr fby handed that out to them and just what they wrote to them was was truly uh truly amazing also something I didn’t plan on we didn’t plan on but um was cool was elementary teachers some of them said when they were here I never
Knew all this was here they had been in elementary school their whole life teaching and they didn’t not their whole life but their whole career and they didn’t realize the amazing opportunities theems everything that there is up here so that was a good uh a good takeaway
And also we have an amazingly supportive professional staff here from working with uh Mr Doma who gave us a lot of advice and guidance to the uh High School administrators Dr Williams and Mr uh um donu yep the teachers the security the clerical um and the custodians all
Here at the high school are amazing they were so supportive and helped us make this uh successful and then for this event finally we collected some data being a math guy being a data guy uh I like looking at this stuff so we asked the fifth graders after they visited
What was your favorite experience um you can see some of the results there and I think it would be cool as they go into Middle School maybe ask them again and again to see how those Trend shift and see how that translates into what they
Aspire to be or what they enroll in in in high school so that was the high school trip and then um the next thing that we thought was kind of a natural uh extension of this I partnered with one of my colleagues Erica Fiero she’s a social St teacher at Twin um lorine
Anderson a student support specialist at Twin and keran Miranda an Ela teacher at monhagen we decided okay these kids were just inspired and wowed by the high school but they now got three years of middle school so we wanted to bring eighth grade panels panels of eighth
Graders to the fifth graders to now speak to them what they need to do what the expectations are at the middle school so then they can access these eies and you know we decided Scholars learn best from each other I think as any of us who are parents know we can
Tell our kids something time and time again but then they hear it from a friend and that’s when it really clicks for them and we saw saw that during these panels as well um and we wanted the eighth graders just like the high schoolers inspired them we wanted the
Eighth graders to inspire our young scholars so first up here is uh some pictures from the panel uh we brought Twin Towers to William a Carter because William a Carter generally those kids go to Twin Towers um and just briefly how we picked these Scholars we didn’t just want the
Kids that were the high academic achieving we wanted a true representation of everybody at Twin Towers so we had students who were athletes um students who may have struggled in sixth grade and have turned it around students who may have gotten in trouble and then again turned it
Around we tried to really get a true representation so fifth graders could kind of see themselves in in these Scholars um up next is monhagen went to Maple Hill as long as as well as we brought the a couple Annex students over to Maple Hill um and as you can see a
Few pictures from there and really the structure we we had for this was we prepared questions in advance we had the eighth graders prepare the response and practice them and at the event we had a couple moderators miss brookens the principal from Twin and Mr Thornell the guidance counselor from monhagen they
Started each event off um giving the expectations for Middle School talking about a few things that the kids should know and one thing they made sure to highlight was the importance and this goes to our strategic plan of attendance so they really emphasized to the fifth
Graders you got to be here to succeed and they showed a slide where every panel eighth grade panel member had either had perfect attendance up to that point or maybe missed one or two days of school to really drive home the point that these kids who are successful are
Here to learn day in and day out um and then we brought both twin towers and monhagen panel to Presidential Park because typically Presidential Park will feed both uh middle schools and one thing I want to highlight we made sure to do was bring some students who spoke
Spanish to speak to our Spanish speaking fifth grade ERS um and it was I was kind of off to the side kind of just watching all this but I did notice one um elll class when our Spanish-speaking student spoke they their eyes just lit up and they were just wrapped with attention to
Listen to him give his experience of coming to the country a couple years ago how he had to get used to it and how he’s become a success in Middle School um and then finally at the conclusion of of our students sharing their answers we gave them the opportunity the fifth
Graders as questions as well so they came up to the mic asked some questions and our eighth graders answered them so overall it was a fantastic event um the fifth grade teachers like I said before came up to me afterwards came up to us and said um that again they told their
Kids this time and time again you got to come to school you got to do this but to hear it from the eth graders they really the fifth graders took it to heart so we’re hoping that has an impact as they now transition into sixth grade um and
Then some thank yous fifth grade teachers for bringing our the kids to the high school bringing them to the um panel the eighth grade teachers for allowing the eighth graders to go down to the elementary schools Mr Joel Joel Grant at William a Carter he was our uh
Guy who set up the mic and everything and at first I’m like oh are you a tech guy I actually had a son a few years ago and he said no I’m not a tech guy I’m a student support specialist but this is
Kind of what I do on the side so for him to give that his time up to set up the microphone set up the sound system was fantastic the custodial staff Mid City Transit give a shout out to uh Diana Sherman we had to email her a lot just
To organize all the buses and she was fantastic so uh amazing support there and finally all of the Elementary Administration teams um here at Middletown you guys got a great admin team and uh they’re doing some great things and that is it any questions great idea nice job guys awesome
Thank you very much and I just want to say that um you know I really appreciate um the opportunity for this team because they have sat on the strategic planning committees and our families um our young people and our Educators in year one talked about wanting to know more um
Wanting to have additional opportunities for field trips which we counted this as well a field trip to our inside um experiences was great as well as um opportunities to see andar about programs earlier so it’s so exciting to see that feedback um from our families um and our young people and our
Educators now be birthed into the actual um action so really um a great amount of appreciation for you thank you thank you guys thank you so much and while we are on the topic of feedback um we have concluded um recently our scholar perception survey
Um but our just about about to head into um our school culture and climate survey and so um tonight I’m just going to give you a quick um View at um the difference between our scholar perception survey and our culture and climate survey um this is the third year um that we will
Work with our partners at um tripod education um to put out to our community an opportunity for them to share their voice with us um we want them to have us um have them help us shape our future um by using their feedback on this culture and climate survey to directly connect
To our strategic plan um for next year and our actions that we work conclude um the year out this year with so the culture climate survey is research validated um and is directly connected to improvements in teaching and learning school climate student agency and professional learning um so this slide just really
Talks about the differences um I didn’t want folks to have survey fatigue or feel like we were serving them on the same topic multiple times so I wanted to make sure to call out with this is that um The Scholar perception survey was um dialed in at kindergarten through grade
12 and really specifically honed in on what it was like for our young people to be in classrooms with our Educators right this culture and climate survey is open to everybody in the school community so you don’t have to have a young person here to understand the
Value of the asset of a school district in your community and so we want the voice of everyone all you have to do is um be a resident or a taxpayer um to the school community and we um you know provide you with access to the survey it
Will capture a large amount of data um from a diverse um set of stakeholders um Scholars will will participate in this but this is not K12 this is grades 5 through 12 and that’s just based on the research around the questions that we’re asking where the vality lies in that and
It begins at grade five um so the questions that will be on this survey and again this is the third year that we are implementing this culture and climate survey in the district um and so it’ll be nice to have um some trends that we see come out of the multiple
Implementations um and just really best practices we believe that um our young people our Educators our staff and our families are good observers we value and trust their voice and that multiple measures over multiple years provide us with a really good data set to create actions um just survey Administration
Will be the week of March 18th um our young people in grades 5 through 12 will take it in their Ela classes our Educators and staff have access to the survey beginning um tomorrow the official window is tomorrow through April 12th and our family and communities have access beginning
Tomorrow through April 12th as well we would be excited to come to the community in the spring and share out the survey data like we’ve done um in previous years and then what I put on um the tables of the Board of Trustees was a few of these hoping that you can put
Them in places that you visit frequently um within the school community so that folks have access to the survey as well as they’re on the seats here in the board meeting and then the communications team will put all of this information to begin sharing it out on our website and our Facebook
Page and the communications team created a really quick video um if we could just go to the video just um to talk about the importance of our community using their voice to help shape our future hello Middletown Community it’s time to make your voice heard and help
Shape the future of our schools last year your feedback brought incredible changes this year we’re partnering with tripod education Partners to dive deeper and we need you whether you’re a scholar educator parent or Community member join us between March 8 and April 12th and Scholars get ready to share your

Join in Access the link during the dates listed below and let’s make a difference together thank you for participating and for helping us grow see you online so a letter went out to families with information on where to access the link again is on our Facebook page um the
District website um and you can access information off of um the QR code here and if we could just go back to the slide presentation really quick I thought I had one more slide um I wanted to just put out a save the date there but I’ll put it out um uh via
Email again just to announce um our Special Olympics which will be coming up um later um this year we are a host site for this incredible event for the second year um so mark your calendars I’m excited to bring that event here for the county um and have our teams uh compete

That came around throughout um um the colleges and in um in organizations that have been supporting kids on on campuses um I also just wanted to I didn’t take the time to acknowledge um the principal um Dr lyette Lynette Williams and her staff um as well as um Miss
Merchant um and and and the staff that participated in this program we had Miss Thomas um I believe she’s a robotic teacher here at the high school U she also has a step team and and um that’s also symbolic of uh these fraternities and sororities because it emphasizes the

Right um right away um but in light of the uh the presentation tonight especially as we’re going through this budget season um I I want us I want us as a board to consider um uh reinstating Our Fair funding um committee maybe under a different name maybe un but um
But with the same Mission with the same Mission as we move forward I think that is is going to be vitally important um especially considering um the the deficits that many districts are going to find themselves in and if we if we think that it’s bad this year um I I
Suspect that over the next couple of years it’s going to get a little bit worse so I just wanted to throw that out there for everybody okay if there’s nothing to thank you she one day she’s going to let me get it out first when I she’s
