The Bible say if anything about Greek letter organizations I’m sure it doesn’t well the Bible doesn’t first the Bible doesn’t speak about that the Bible does however speak about idolatry right that’s good and that that starts in the book you know of Exodus God lays out the

Law and thou shall have no other God before me right and so anytime your focus and your energy Your Allegiance is towards something greater than God than God it becomes problematic right which then leads to or not greater than God anytime Your Allegiance goes to anything

Other other than God that’s what I mean yeah but you make it greater than God I think that which leads to I think the problem because some people are predisposed in their own insecurities their search for identity that when they become a part of these organizations it

Defines and they worship it and so I say this all the time so when one of the things that we do we Mentor a lot of people so when people come up to us to talk to us about joining Greek letter organizations one of the first things that I do is really

Trying to get a sense of who they are and who they believe themselves to be right like do you know who you are what are you about um what are what are your goals your dreams your aspiration what role will this organization play in your life is this something that you feel

Like will Define you because that’s a problem is this something that you feel like will give you your identity that’s a problem is this something that you feel like you need or do you which is a problem or do you feel like you can be value added to these organizations you

Know these are service organizations you know built for you know service scholarship um Sisterhood Brotherhood and so if you can understand that and you feel like this is ADD like value added in terms of your life to the amazing things that you’re already doing or to the organization itself then

That’s a fundamentally different approach than believing that this is going to Define you or be the end all be all to who you are and what you represent in life yeah and you know one of things I think that’s very interesting too I think a lot of people

You know take a very legalistic approach one to the Bible right and the Bible says very clearly in second Corinthians the the the letter kth the spirit giveth life sometimes we become so legalistic like the Pharisees that we take the scripture off the page without having any context and try to address these

Addressing modern concerns with Antiquated understandings of scripture and Etc and of course again being a you know I’m a theologian I’m a nerd I study the scripture Beyond just the surface it’s very interesting to me how people you know come to a place where I’m going to denounce this because I think that

The entire thing you know is is sacrilegious or it is idolatry Etc when in fact the hypocrisy of that Jesus spoke very interestingly enough Jesus spoke about this like not about Greek letter organization but he spoke about this mindset right he say you you you Pharisees you do you tithe you do this

You do that but you don’t do this he says you have you have this hypocrisy uh that you don’t love each other you don’t do all these other things so but you don’t see what you’re doing in your other areas of life that are similar or identical exactly so you can denounce

Denounce an organization because you feel but it’s idolatry but then you will and I’m not suggesting you shouldn’t do what I’m getting ready to say please hear me well here context context context denounce agre that organization but then you will you know because you say I don’t want to you know have my

Allegiance to anything other than Jesus in this season but then you will stand up at an event and put your hand over your heart and pledge allegiance yeah to the flag right it’s like like think about that for a moment so the real issue now becomes you know is it idolatry and I

Think people make these assumptions like I know for example like there’s nothing in Omega scii that causes me to worship it I’m sure there’s nothing in deltaa that causes you to bow down or is based on Christian principles even though it’s not a Christian organization it’s built

On Christian principles so I mean I don’t yeah and and you know I think that sometimes you know people lose sight of that because they have this assumption that oh you have to bow down or you have this secret society and you have this or that you know but I think in our

Community more specifically we’ve always had social organizations that have done extraordinary things you know uh we had you know uh because frequently we couldn’t go to other places and join other groups or engage in in in you know whatever those things that we were Desiring at the time because we were

Excluded so we created our own yeah and I think I think it’s important when you read scripture and I tell people all the time I mean I’m zeist I know the Zeal people have but they get saved they have a rebirth experience and they want to throw everything out you throw the baby

Out with the bath water I’m going to just announce everything and I’m just going to be you become so rigid and so you know religious that you lose sight of relationship and you lose sight of the fact that you treat everything that way it’s how people when they go to one

Church and leave another one they then throw everything away I’ll never go that’s that’s the worst thing ever and we denounce we have this denouncing Spirit around anything that doesn’t align with our interpretation of the word of God there’s a big word uh called hermeneutic and it’s the interpretation

Of scripture and there’s another word called hubus which deals with pride and I of approach the scripture not with hermeneutical hub’s Pride like I know it and this is absolutely right I approach with hermeneutical humility that God teach me stuff and I’m constantly learning right as a student of the

Scripture and when I stand up and emphatically say these folks are going to heaven and these folks are going to hell and you know you’re right and you’re you know I have to be very careful with that and I clearly understand what the scripture says I preach it I know Salvation through Jesus

I get all that I’m saying that it’s that you kind of have be more open-minded and don’t throw the baby out if you do worship or come into an organization and you worship it you shouldn’t join it because that is problematic yeah that is wrong in and of itself this issue is

About discipleship yeah and I think though like playing both size of the fence right I can see how on occasion someone may be able to look not at an organization but at individuals in the organization right who are doing what you’re describing in terms of not doing

So that in and of itself may be a turnoff but I caution about judging an entire organization do based off of your interactions with a handful of people or one or two people here and there like there are always and will always be individuals who do the right thing for

The wrong reason right and so you have to be mindful of what you’re judging are you judging the action or are you judging the whole you have to just sort of be be balancing you you have to be mindful of the contradictions that we all can be subject to you here you are

Denouncing this and I have seen people do this and people I don’t I never join a you know Greek Le organization it’s it’s it’s hypocrisy it’s worship and then you know you go to happy hour and you’re holding a hinding it in one hand with the cross around your neck you know

This is like completely crazy right and so I think it’s just or you’re unhealthy right like the Bible talks about you know not being gluttonous you know making sure that you’re taking care of your body taking care of your temple it’s all the same it’s no different you’re just sort of

Choosing what you’re going to denounce but if you’re going to denounce that then you should be the healthiest person you should not be drinking alcohol in a gluttonous way um you should what else like you should praying three or four times to they should be like I mean the

Real issue is we’re walking this thing out an our relationship of Jesus Christ and the issue is we are doing this this this um topic for you today not not to convert you one way or the other we’re just trying to expl a conversation we understand let’s have this conversation

Let’s have this discussion let’s put it all on the da in terms of what the various viewpoints may be yeah and you don’t have to send us you know a dissertation in the comment section you know breaking it all downa says this how can you be a man of God say all that

Attack stuff know that’s you know nobody’s going to read it right it’s just a tag it’s the same stuff let’s have a real conversation about how can we see both sides of this argument and how can you then decide for yourself for yourself you know it’s like it’s the

Right thing for ex like we know I mean I preach y’all to a Congregation of 30,000 people and worldwide to Millions don’t you think I know that Easter is about Jesus getting up from the grave right and just because my kids could take a picture with the Easter

Bunny right you think that I don’t teach them also about Jesus right and the resurrection but I allow them to have fun and do that because they know that because I put that as a priority it is about Jesus and his resurrection and than Christmas and Santa but you people

Go there oh it’s a pagan and it’s know that Jesus is the reason for the season when it comes to holidays and Christmas however they do take a picture with Santa Claus like what’s the difference like you take Santa out you just too because you become too legalistic you’re

A Pharisee your kids grew up not normal we had all of that and still grew up normal love the Lord live that we’re very grounded very grounded man clearly have a love of God a Love Of Christ put God F put him Center in every single

Thing that we do but we know how to balance that with a sense of of normaly and fun and enjoyment and yes still enjoying the life of living like a Christian you just said something though balance yeah as Believers we’re called to be more balanced right and two things

I’ll say about that like Jesus says you’re the salt of the earth the salt loses its Savor it’s good for nothing to be put under the foot of men like salt and you know salt must be given in moderation Sometimes some of us are so salty nobody want to be around us you

Run people a press up we can be just watching the basketball game and then you want to bring up Isaiah 54 we’re just trying to watch the game people that I have disciple evangelized too I played ball with these guys I’ve been in situations I never had to crack open the

Scripture and walk down the Plan of Salvation I lived it in front of them I showed them what the love of Jesus Christ was and then that then created a conversation and I just sprinkled the salt every there then you go in just like salt salt salt salt and that’s why

You’re and the second thing Jesus put relation ship yes over rules he came in to dismantle rules imagine all the people go back and read about all the people that he engaged with that it was against the rules woman the woman at the well the one with the ISS your blood you

Know the people that you sit with Sinners he’s like wait a minute this is what I came to do how then can we be light if we always around light we have to be in place we can become light and show people illuminate them and bring them into relation

That’s what’s so important and I just think it’s it’s it’s just healthy for us to really understand that there’s some of us out here who are a part of these organizations who love the Lord who are doing this in a way that we believe is healthy we believe that it can help

Others bring the love of Christ with us right in the midst of it absolutely and so we want you as you listen to this to make sure you understand that we’re not taking your feelings for granted your thoughts your deep convictions acts 17 says it this way and Paul goes on from

Mars Hill and sees those folks worshiping an image to an unknown God whom they ignorantly worship that is the essence of idolatry Paul says it’s him I declare unto you I believe wholeheartedly that you can have a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ be grounded be part of these

Organizations and these organizations do not define you nor do you worship them I bow down to none but one his name is Jesus Christ and I serve and I’m using any organization that is lifting up my community lifting up Humanity whether it’s Delta whether it’s Omega whether it’s Capas Alphas whatever it

Isue whether it’s other organizations in our community that’s doing NAACP to whomever whatever whatever if you are helping my community helping us become better I want to rec connected to you and that’s what it’s all about right abely I love that at the end of the day

So hey hey if you got issues with it then do what you going to do ask for us you going to keep loving Jesus I’m going keep rocking my Omega stuff and I ain’t worshiping it because guess what this is not greater than the Cross of Christ
