This was a vision by by one of the BRS to you know bring all us authors together as an artist you know and putting out a literary piece you want to be around more authors just like yourself and that are better than you because it makes you better as an artist
This here just it it it touched my soul today and uh I’m just I’m I’m so excited it’s hard to even get the words out but just seeing a group of us men uh from the same environment and and guys just being successful being given back to
Society those things are important to me so very proud of that you are watching sgtv socially good television just being part of this panel of my fraternity brothers and Friends it was very inspirational to see eight brothers come together on a project about books reading during National reading month as mentioned at the
Beginning you know reading literacy is uh crucial in our community and it starts with having books that are easily accessible and so kids at are younger ages could read and really enjoy enjoy it and make it a habit so I’m glad to be part of this project definitely feel
Blessed when thinking about this um kind of the vision was to just see not only eight men that are authors but eight black men that are authors and then eight fraternity brothers that are authors like we wanted to show that you know a lot of people have ideas about
What fraternities are what they do what they don’t do and those type things but we really wanted to show the intellect and how we involve ourselves in the community um through this program and I mean just to be able to see um eight men up there with their books that theyve
Worked on that they’re hard on they’re all part of the same organization from different communities but kind of from the same mind space just gives other the whole idea was to kind of uplift others and give them the ideas that not only did these guys do it but I can go out
And do similar things as well I know their story I know what they do for their occupation I know what they do you know in the community and if you really listen to what was shared today every single one of us the books have something to do with our occupation but
Beyond that it has a lot to do with our stories in life the book is but a product of the story and and that that’s what resonated with me about all these brothers that’s why anytime they ask me to do anything I’m with them it helps contribute to the the cultural
Responsiveness that that that we have as a responsibility as educator well myself I’m an educator but that as we have as black men in this community through this organization it it it means the world for a uh Brothers of Omega sci-fi and just brothers in this community contributing to the cultural
Responsiveness of young inspiring young black people to recognize the importance of literacy it was an anomaly I must say um a very pleasant surprise to see uh Brothers going Beyond um the the classroom um we don’t have enough of them in our classrooms either but to see
Eight accomplished uh Omega men who have written books of substance uh to inspire and motivate us uh that’s why I’m here I heard a lot of um interesting information today about the process of actually writing a book getting a publisher an editor but more importantly just getting your thoughts out there
They just start making that first step start putting it on paper um and then start organizing it later on don’t wait and as I said it earlier Tony Morrison said when you can’t find a book that you would like to read then you need to be
The one to write that book everybody has a hook great songs have a hook um you have the lyrics and then and what carries a song is usually the hook and so again if if a if a a literature piece is has the right hook uh targeted to a
Specific audience I think that’s one way that we could kind of get uh through the community of of books so you have a number of authors that are here you have a number of authors that are out there in the you know in the greater Universe
If you will your own hook your specific hook but then um connect with others who have U literature in mind that’s a kind of common Hook from a community [Applause] perspective thank you for watching sgtv and remember to share this video
