Group life in the Light-Community of Figueira The Light-Community of Figueira understands group coexistence as an opportunity for growth and development of virtues in each collaborator. Founded by José Trigueirinho in 1987, it is a school of everyday life, oriented towards the common good and bringing challenges that teach cooperation, collaboration, flexibility and mutual understanding.
Here we live a communal life. Usually those who are here or seek to serve and help, collaborate with Figueira, they feel an inner calling, they look for something new, something different, a new life. Because here we seek to find that which is sacred. Life here at Figueira is a sacred place.
So, we try to find these new patterns for new humanity. Our life in group is like this: before I used to say that I had, that I was independent; I had a job, my own house, my way of life. Then you stop thinking about yourself,
You come here to help your neighbor, to help others. Because in the Light-Community of Figueira and in other communities, culture, the way of living is the way of peace. It is what unites, not what separates, that brings people here. And what is the thing that unites people?
If we look at the point of convergence, for example, of religions, the point of convergence is love, which is the moral basis and also the core of life. So that’s how in daily practice it is not simple, it is not something that is ready, it is a dynamic daily practice.
Being in Figueira, you are invited to live and learn about love, brotherhood, service to the kingdoms of nature. This life, this archetype is what we seek to live here. Because each of us brings our culture, our history, our race, our records. And where does peace exist within group life?
When we are an empty glass. When we come at least close to a law, which is the law of neutrality, the law of love. That is not a law focused on a situation or a being. It is centered on love. So many times your wants will be dissolved for the greater good,
Because often there is no way for them to prevail. So many times you have to do the work of renunciation. And that is also living in harmony and fraternity. I remember that once I was with José Trigueirinho, we were talking and I was having a few crises. I remember him saying to me:
“Listen, are you participating in the rhythm of the area? Are you participating in the rhythm of the community?” And I remember that at that time I was participating in some activities and I left out others, I didn’t do them and I really wasn’t fully participating in the rhythm of the community,
And I answered: “More or less José” and he told me: “So, if you participate in the rhythm of the community, you will not have these crises.” The universe has a rhythm. There is the day, we have the sun, the night, the stars, and to a certain extent we should follow that rhythm.
There is a schedule where we have the instruction, we receive the talks, the instructions of Christ, of Mary, all of this is a great blessing. It is a great blessing for us to be here. Because outside we would not have the conditions to be able to evolve in this way,
