Expressions and to be inclusive and connected to our community today we’ll focus on culture dBase Greek organizations now Greek life is the cornerstone of college organizations everywhere whether for an Honors Program or social gathering for Chinese and sororities pride themselves on creating leaders and promoting scholarship coach
The base Greek organizations day as far back as the 1900s these fraternities and sororities were created to support people of color and their respective cultural identities each organization belongs to a Governing Council National pan-hellenic Council was founded in 1930 with nine respective organizations the multicultural Greek organization or a
Council was founded in 1998 with eleven respective organizations here at MSU we have our own multicultural Greek Council which holds all five Cosi based Greek organizations on this campus Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated was founded on the campus of Howard University in 1908 since then were charted on the MSU
Campus in 1996 while maintaining the highest grades out of all Greek organizations they participate in mentoring programs across Wichita Falls def Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated was founded on 19 in 1913 on that same campus in Washington DC they were charted here in 1995 now DST was the first organization of the
National pan-hellenic Council to charter a Greek organization here at MSU DST has a program that mentors young women in preparation for making them more well-rounded name the Delta gyms now Kappa Delta Chi sorority incorporated was founded in 1987 on the campus of Texas Tech University Katie Cal was later chartered here in
2006 the chapter has a mentoring program based out of bar wise leadership academy named the little penguins now Omega Delta Phi fraternity incorporated which is near and dear to my heart was founded on the same campus and the same year as katie car ten years later we’re trying here at MSU
Now OD five is the largest culturally based fraternity on the campus of MSU they also have a mentoring program here in bar here in Wichita Falls at bar wise named young Knights that focuses on academics in preparation for the professional world finally we have Sigma Lambda Alpha Sorority Incorporated which
Was founded in 1992 on the campus of Texas Tech I’m sorry Texas Woman’s University and we’re trying to here two years later now SLA who was founded as a historically Hispanic organization at one point in time were entirely filled with Caribbean students here at MSU now
All five chapters make up about 12% of the entire Greek community here and only 1% of the entire and graduate undergraduate population but the council together has the highest GPA amongst the entire Greek community and prized themself on maintaining high numbers of community service now the council themself feels like they’re trapped
Inside of a branded box by what is seen on TVs and movies closely based Greek organizations find it very difficult to stray away from the stereotypes there are shown that we speak more focused on stepping strolling and not more focused on the societal side but later we’re going to hear from the MDC
Council here at MSU on how they feel about their Greek organization and their council as a whole take a look we are students from diverse backgrounds we are leaders from different countries and islands we are unified fighting for equality amongst our fellow peers we are scholars with the network built
By generations before us we raise awareness spreading love to one another we are our community giving back with service and philanthropy we are phenomenal we don’t just wear the letters and jackets but we are a part of something bigger we are not paying for frames but creating a legacy bread with values of

M issues mgc council the mission of the mgc council here at MSU is to showcase culturally based fraternal organizations and showcase our community service and devar’s also our academics and also just be a support system for students of minority background okay know yourself you joined us Sigma Theta
Could you tell us about when you joined how’s it shaped your life so far I joined out Sigma Theta first because of course my mom was a charter member at Baylor and so it was always in my life all the influential women that I knew when I sat down and thought about it
They were all deltas so I of course I want to be like them and here we are right now as far as membership each organization does it differ each one has their own separate requirements but what is like the base pour requirements for joining an organization in mgc join organization in
Mgc first of all you have to have your academics together so you have to have a at least a B GPA which would be about a 2.5 also you have to have hours of previously completed community service we like to have people who are dedicated and who see the importance of serving in
Your community right and that’s a big thing giving back to people who probably don’t even have the same experiences Asian right now what our future of goals 4mg see anything as far as numbers or academics or anything like that mgc has a big goal this year of making
Sure that we are stepping out from that stereotype that is hangs over our organizations about that we are only there for partying strolling and stepping we want to make sure that you know that we are here to serve our community and sort of community specifically of Wichita Falls so that is
A big goal for us and that’s something that like I said is really needed not just in Wichita Falls but around the country as well not just for Costa Greek organizations but for all Greek organizations to step out of that comfort zone and give back to those who
Don’t have the same opportunities that we all have and of course Greek Week you know that’s something that all Greeks on this campus look forward to it coming up what can we expect let’s come with events things like that this year is going to be a big year for Greek Week
Here on M issues campus we are all teaming up because this is this is how we show that no matter what council you belong to no matter what your background is this is where we come together and show what Greek organizations were basically founded for in the first place
So we will all be working together intertwining our councils making sure that we reach a big number of those who are not even Greek we want to make sure we reach them that they know that that we’re here to support them also so there would be big things we have
Of course like our fill day where they get to watch us compete against each other and we also have different community service endeavors that will be open to the student body well of course look out for Greek Week that’s coming up because if I’m not mistaken
All of it men she was invited to come out on watch you know field day and all the different events and of course don’t be afraid to approach anyone of as far as the mgc council you know don’t be afraid to speak to someone and just ask them about their organization and what
