The University of Georgia Greek Life Office extends congratulations to Julian Bolanos and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated on receiving the Liza Burke Community Spirit Award at this year’s H. Gordon & Francis S. Davis Student Engagement Awards.
According to the UGA Engagement, Leadership, and Service Website, “This award celebrates individuals or student organizations who profoundly and positively impact their peers, campus, or community through their dedication, character, leadership, and creative thinking. Recipients of this award will have demonstrated outstanding work and achievement in creating spaces and/or events that spark joy and enhance community in and around the UGA campus.”
Both Bolanos and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. demonstrated a passion for and commitment to their communities and campus through their award applications and essays.
Bolanos’ involvement in both his fraternity, Alpha Tau Omega, where he served as the chapter’s philanthropy chairman, and UGA Miracle, where he will serve as the 2024-2025 Executive Director, has allowed him to serve his community and assist in leading numerous philanthropic projects.
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated hosts several events each year, such as the Miss Black University of Georgia scholarship pageant, to generate scholarship funding for chapter members. Additionally, the Zeta Psi chapter promotes various programming initiatives among members and received the Chapter of the Year Award within the southern region as a result of their efforts.
Individuals and organizations who receive the Liza Burke Community Spirit Award are also awarded a scholarship. This was the inaugural year for the award, making Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and Julian Bolanos the first individual and organization recipients.
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. says they will use the scholarship to “continue fostering community, spreading joy, and leaving a lasting impact on the lives of our members and those we serve.”
Bolanos says he plans to utilize his scholarship by “paying for medical school applications.”
