Letter from the President
Dear brothers and friends,
I am honored to share the remarkable progress the Phi Delta Theta Foundation accomplished in 2023. We are thrilled to announce that we awarded over $1 million in educational grants and scholarships to our members for the second consecutive year, marking a historic milestone for the Foundation that is a testament to donors’ generous and building support for the last sixty-five years.
I am deeply grateful for your unwavering support of Phi Delta Theta, which has enabled us to achieve goals that once seemed impossible. Our research revealed that the Foundation’s first Board of Directors in the 1960s hoped to eventually award two Phis a $1,000 scholarship annually.
Twenty years after the Foundation Board established that goal and was flourishing, the Board successfully petitioned the IRS to be allowed to grant scholarships and use funds raised to grant monies for educational programming. At that time, the goal was to support the Fraternity for the chapter consultant program.
Now, with your help, we have far surpassed that goal. Our educational programming has flourished beyond the initial objective of supporting the Fraternity’s chapter consultant program. In 2023, we granted $622,869 in scholarships, the most of any fraternity foundation. We provided $659,782 in support for various programs, including the Kleberg Emerging Leaders Institute, Shaffer Honors College of Leadership, Ihlenfeld Online University, and McKenzie Family Presidents Leadership Conference. Phi Delta Theta granted more educational scholarships than any other fraternity foundation in 2023, and we are looking to do it again in 2024, thanks to your support.
In 2023, the record-breaking support for our Phi Delt Fund of over $1.1 million and additional dollars totaling $3.4 million inspired by all aspects of our brotherhood. This included hundreds of donors rallying around the Fraser Family to honor our fallen Michigan Beta Chapter President Brian Fraser, who turned tragedy into triumph by establishing two scholarships in his name. Our donors also celebrated their lifelong commitment to the Fraternity and competitive spirit by competing against one another in our record-breaking Giving Day and beating all other Fraternities in the Giving Tuesday competition we won in our first year of participation.
I invite you to read the stories of these efforts, our students, and fellow donors and reflect on your positive impact on their lives. Your commitment to Phi Delta Theta Fraternity has enabled us to fulfill our mission of advancing the education of our members, and for that, we are eternally grateful.
Gratefully, Yours in the Bond,
Sean S. Wagner, President
