My journey to joining a sorority began long before I even considered recruitment. In high school, I was always more of an extrovert and was very involved in extracurriculars. From sports to clubs to work- I was consistently keeping myself busy. For me, being involved is not a requirement, but more of a choice. Being involved helps me feel the most successful, motivated and fulfilled that I can. I knew in college, I wanted to continue that same level of involvement and find a community where I could grow, lead and connect with others.
I was open to joining a sorority given its reputation as one of the well-known college organizations. And I had heard about sorority life through my older sister, a proud member of Pi Beta Phi. Still, I was not quite sure if it was for me. I was already a student-athlete on the track team which allowed me to quickly connect with so many amazing people and find my place on campus.
Having a strong support system made the transition to college life not only a lot easier but more enjoyable and welcoming. Track is rewarding and gives me a sense of purpose and motivation, but I am used to doing more. While I love the experience that athletics provides, I still wanted to broaden my college experience beyond sports and seek new opportunities for leadership, personal growth and connection.
After some thought, I decided to take a chance and follow what felt right for me by going through formal recruitment during the spring of my freshman year. The recruitment process was exciting and eye-opening, introducing me to an entirely new side of college life that I hadn’t even realized I was missing. I ended up joining Delta Delta Delta (Tri Delta) and now, as a junior, I can confidently say that I am so grateful I didn’t stop looking for ways to fulfill my experience. This decision shaped my college journey and it pushed me to continue seeking new opportunities for growth. I had found confidence to expand my involvement even further in places like my campus’s Panhellenic Council, taking on leadership roles within Tri Delta and becoming an active member of organizations like Women in Business.
Sorority life has given me lifelong best friends, shaped me into a stronger leader and opened doors to countless opportunities. Immediately, I bonded with my chapter members, creating deep friendships that I know will last a lifetime. The leadership opportunities I have gained are unparalleled, offering me experiences I couldn’t have found anywhere else. Since joining my sorority, I’ve grown both personally and professionally in ways I never expected.
