Building a Future Through Brotherhood: A First-Generation Scholar’s Journey

As a first-generation college student at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, I am proud to be pursuing a degree in pre-chiropractic with a minor in public health. My short-term goal is to attend Cleveland University in Overland Park, Kansas City, where I will obtain my doctor of chiropractic. In the long term, I hope to open my own practice in Kearney, Nebraska, giving back to the community that has supported my educational journey.
Receiving the First-Generation Scholarship has made a tremendous impact on both me and my family. It has not only eased the financial pressures of higher education but also given me the freedom to focus more fully on my studies and future career. This support represents far more than financial assistance—it is a powerful reminder of Phi Delta Theta’s belief in my potential and commitment to my success.
I am deeply grateful for this award, which brings me one step closer to achieving my personal and professional aspirations. The generosity of the Foundation allows students like me to grow as scholars and leaders, and I am honored to be among those whose lives have been changed by this opportunity. Through Phi Delta Theta, I have truly become the greatest version of myself. The brotherhood has provided invaluable knowledge, leadership experience, and a network of support that continues to shape my journey. I have met countless individuals who inspire me to strive for excellence both in the classroom and in my future profession.
College has not been without its challenges. The transition into this year—with a demanding class schedule and the pressures of balancing work and academics—has been one of the toughest periods of my journey. Yet, I chose to remain steadfast in Phi Delta Theta because of the accountability, encouragement, and unwavering support of my brothers in the bond. Their belief in me pushes me to persevere, and I would not be where I am today without them.
