Philanthropy Without Limits: Supporting Sisterhood Across Panhellenic

My sorority tie to our philanthropy looks different from a lot of my sisters. When going through Panhellenic recruitment, you are given so many opportunities to learn and watch the impact philanthropies have on each sorority.  Some of my Panhellenic sisters felt a tie to the philanthropic cause they saw their future chapter dive into during the Philanthropy round of recruitment.  A lot of girls in my chapter felt connected to Kappa Delta through being a former Girl Scout, but I never had that experience. I was drawn to the strong emphasis on confidence and how that inspired their philanthropic efforts. I am an example of a sorority sister who didn’t have a direct tie to their philanthropy but still found a way to be just as excited as someone who may have a connection with Girl Scouts or Prevent Child Abuse America.

A special experience Kappa Delta offers its members is serving two different philanthropies. Kappa Delta partners with Prevent Child Abuse America (PCAA) and Girl Scouts of the USA. Philanthropy is one of my favorite aspects of Kappa Delta because we get to live out our strong value of inspiring confidence with the youth of America. The beauty of supporting two different philanthropies is that we can see change directly and indirectly through our efforts as a chapter. This may look like helping Girl Scouts earn badges and feel more confident navigating areas in life that may be unfamiliar to them. Or it can look like creating fun philanthropy events supported by our friends, families and students to support our local PCAA shelter.

Kappa Delta is a sisterhood built on building confidence and inspiring action. Kappa Delta sisters take the motto “Go Confidently” with us in all aspects of our lives. We live our lives inspiring and encouraging that same confidence in the people around us. Between the strong emphasis on building confident and safe homes through PCAA and the idea of hands-on work with the local Girl Scouts, I was captivated by Kappa Delta’s service in their community.

When you receive your bid card, go through the initiation process, and eventually participate in your chapter specific events, you don’t have to give up your passion for other sorority’s philanthropies. Philanthropy round of recruitment gives you a broader insight on chapters who fundraise for such great causes. As a Panhellenic community, we all participate and help other chapters reach goals to support their individual causes. This looks like buying philanthropy dinner tickets from a few friends in the same chapter, sending out flyers to spread the word and confidently supporting each chapter’s philanthropy!

The confidence that we encourage goes beyond our chapter and philanthropies. Kappa Delta inspires confidence throughout the Panhellenic community and on campus. Confidence is not limited to the Kappa Delta, PCAA or Girl Scout experience and that is why we try to touch the lives of so many with our sisterhood. “Go Confidently” can look like attending other chapter’s philanthropy events, helping a friendly face in the classroom, complimenting a stranger on their outfit, supporting a Girl Scout cookie booth, paying for the person behind you or exuding confidence in anything and everything you do, big or small.
