Spring Break: Living Our Values When It Matters Most

Spring break is an opportunity to rest, travel, and spend time with brothers. However, it often places members in unfamiliar environments, creating opportunities for unsafe situations. Living out the values of Phi Delta Theta does not pause when classes do.

Phi Delta Theta holds the safety of every member of the Fraternity as well as the individuals they interact with, in the highest regard. Before you hit the road with your brothers or fellow classmates, here is your reminder to stay true to our values and make safe choices.

Don’t Tarnish the Badge

The badge represents our shared commitment to the Cardinal Principles. Don’t Tarnish the Badge is more than a campaign—it is a call to action. It challenges every member to step in, prevent dangerous behaviors before they escalate, and protect one another in moments of vulnerability. Upholding our standards away from campus is just as important as upholding them at school.

Good Samaritans Act Immediately

Phi Delta Theta’s Good Samaritan Policy reinforces a simple expectation: when someone needs help, you call for it.

Acting as a Good Samaritan means:

  • Calling 911 immediately.
  • Staying with the person in distress until emergency professionals arrive.
  • For instances involving a member(s), reporting the incident appropriately to RealResponse.

In an emergency, every moment counts. Hesitation can cost time, while courage can save lives.

A New Way to Speak Up: RealResponse

This year, Phi Delta Theta strengthened its commitment to member safety by partnering with RealResponse to implement a secure, two-way anonymous communication platform across the Fraternity.

RealResponse allows members, families, volunteers, and campus partners to confidentially and anonymously share concerns about a member or members by seeking guidance via text message or email. The platform enables early intervention, swift response, and proactive prevention — before issues escalate.

Spring break often brings unique situations. If you are unsure about something, need guidance, or want to raise a concern, use the tools available to you.

Lead Wherever You Go

Whether you are traveling with brothers, friends, or family, remember:

  • You represent Phi Delta Theta
  • You are responsible for your decisions
  • You have a duty to care for those around you

Asking questions early protects you and the people around you. Acting quickly in emergencies protects lives. Holding one another accountable protects the Badge.

Spring break should create memories you are proud of—not moments you regret.

Through open dialogue, shared accountability, and the courage to intervene, we continue building a safer, stronger brotherhood for generations to come.
