Why Chapters Should Apply for Awards
Surprisingly enough, we are coming to a close on the 2025–26 school year. With the end of the year just around the corner, we want to make sure that all of our chapters are being recognized for the incredible work they have done this year. Applying for awards is something all chapters should take the time to do—it’s a meaningful reflection of the year and encourages everyone to continue striving for success. And who doesn’t like a trophy?
When done well, an award submission becomes more than just an application—it’s an opportunity to reflect on your experiences, highlight your growth, and showcase the impact you’ve made as a member of Phi Delta Theta. These applications can be used on your résumé, discussed in interviews, and shared on LinkedIn to demonstrate how Phi Delta Theta is helping you become the greatest version of yourself.
Earlier this week, Phi Delta Theta General Headquarters hosted an Awards Information Webinar to answer questions, go through the application process, and promote competitive submissions.
The Process Isn’t as Intimidating as You Think
One of the biggest barriers to applying is the belief that the process is too complicated or time-consuming. In reality, most applications are designed to be straightforward and manageable.
A few things to keep in mind:
- You don’t need to start from scratch—many of your experiences are already worth sharing
- The application is about reflection, not perfection
- It’s okay to take it step by step
If you’re unsure where to start, the best thing you can do is watch the recent webinar recording. It walks through the process, offers guidance, and breaks down exactly what’s expected so you can feel confident moving forward.
There’s an Award for What You’re Already Doing
One of the most overlooked truths is that you don’t need to change what you’re doing to apply—you just need to recognize it.
The awards packet includes a wide range of opportunities that reflect different aspects of leadership, service, scholarship, and involvement. Whether you’ve led a major initiative, supported your chapter behind the scenes, or consistently shown up and contributed in meaningful ways, there is likely an award that aligns with your experience.
Take a few minutes to review the awards packet. You might be surprised at how many categories you already fit.
Take the Next Step
If you take anything away from this, let it be this: your accomplishments are bigger than you think. Your chapter’s story is worth telling—and this is your opportunity to tell it.
Applying for an award isn’t about being the “best”—it’s about recognizing your growth, your impact, and your potential.
