Patterson third president of Tuskegee the United Negro College Fund it’s been the organization that has helped so many young african-americans through school fundraising is crucial to all colleges and universities it’s especially crucial to historically black colleges and university private ones simply because there are not very many people of wealth in the
African-american community and if they are in many instances they are not graduates in the colleges and so therefore the only source of support for colleges and universities for many years was the United Negro College Fund so therefore the United Negro College Fund became the only organization for structure that was available to provide
Money for historically black private colleges across the board so here’s a man that founded the United Negro College Fund that has been the lifeblood for 37 38 39 maybe 40 of 22 black colleges who we would not have that many private colleges today if Patterson had
Not come up with the unit Negro College Fund so he started that but he also gave us the Tuskegee R this is a man that we all ought to honor in more ways than we have and Alpha Phi Alpha is proud to say that he was one of us
As general president of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity I am pleased to congratulate United Negro College Fund on their 75th anniversary Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity UNCF have been partners for 75 years his founder Frederick Douglas Patterson was a member of our fraternity and for 75 years we are pleased to be partners
And even today we are looking forward to many young people receiving scholarships from this great organization having served as the 11th president of st. augustine’s University I know firsthand what it means when young people can receive the great news that they have received a grant a scholarship from UNCF
And truly can remain in college and see their dreams become a reality so Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity shall always be a partner with UNCF and we congratulate this great organization for their continued work and look forward to partnering with them for years to come
