G land I’m a model actor Talent coach but more importantly I’m a community advocate and I am a member of Delta Sigma Theta sorority I am also a legacy member of Delta Sigma Theta meaning I come from a line of Delta women so welcome welcome so tonight is going to
Be very interesting because like I said we’re going to be highlighting and talking about the divine nine which is encompassing about what is it uh four sororities five sororities and four fraternities and their you know I just want to kind of give you guys an opportunity to maybe
Ask some questions and then we’ll leave we’ll lead out into our breakout discussion from there so taishe you said you had a bunch of questions and I’m so happy you led with I always wanted to be a Delta I hear that a lot anytime I am somewhere introducing myself you know I
Am uh sharing with them like how I got started and and when you know we always share when we when we pledged in uh our chapters and definitely some highlights of our time together when when we were coming up and I grew I pledged when I was in my undergraduate studies it’s
Usually women who are a part of advanced organization not organizations but um Educational Systems so I apologize Cal State Hayward in the East Bay in Spring 1998 it seems like such a long time ago I am considered to be a great grandmother because I brought in my own line as well as
Um still pay honors to my sorority sisters as well as my profits and it was such a beautiful experience for me I didn’t grow up with a lot of sisters you know and my family and I definitely desire to be a part of the black college
Experience but I grew up in the Bay area and we didn’t have that I wasn’t able to be in the South so now that um I sought the opportunity I actually got my first exposure from one of my cousins at a wedding and the wedding was
Such that they had her in the middle and they have surrounded her with all of her sorority sisters and they sung this beautiful song to her and they just serenaded her with this experience that I was captivated by and I was young at the time so I was like what is that and
How do I join and then it was followed up by a book Henry Louis Henry Louis Graham wrote a book called our kind of people and from there I learned about all the sororities and really just black Elites in general which really opened my eyes to kind of like the life I wanted
For myself in a generational curse breaker coming from humble beginnings so this was my idea my first exposure to Dr Sigma Theta and I did my research and I selected Delta Sigma Theta and I sought them out and here we are today so taishe
You said I wish I was able to join if I had the opportunity it would have been Delta and tell us about that experience tell us because you still do have an opportunity you know yeah and those are one of my one of my questions I was
Going to talk to you about that as well okay so my story um I don’t remember if you remember uh Dr Camille a couple weeks ago we were talking about uh the school systems and I had mentioned how bad I was in school um so getting back to that so yeah when
I was in elementary I was about fifth grade I wasn’t bad I was bad I won’t go into details about the stuff yeah so I did I was on the verge of getting expelled from school um and I was just not that bad but it’s okay
And so I I mean I just I didn’t really care like I felt like you know I was just growing up to just grow up I didn’t really see any future in myself and it’s crazy to think that now but um so there was this lady she was a teacher she
Wasn’t my teacher but she was a teacher at our school and she fought it was like three of us that were on the verge of getting expelled and she fought for us to stay and she kept checking on me and I’m just like you know why does she care so much
Um and she was like you know I want you to join this program and so I’m like I don’t know but she’s like you know I want to talk to your parents like we’re gonna get you into this program and she was like if I have to pay for it I will
And so I was like wow okay well so then she talked to my mom and it was a program called jabberwock yeah and so um it was it was really great it was a great experience I got to meet new people I got to learn about the sorority which is the Delta sorority
Um and that that just really that was a big highlight for me like I still remember her name was Belinda Watkins she was a sweet lady like and I don’t know why she just kept picking me and kept checking on me out of all the students at the school but it was like
Wow like somebody really like outside of my you know my parents and stuff like somebody in this school system actually cares about me um and so I ended up winning second place it was a pageant we did and um it was like it was a great experience and then not to mention my
Great-grandmother was a Delta mother and so when she found out about me doing this pageant she was so excited and she’s like you know you should really look into this keep doing it and so like they introduced us to like some of the order ladies in the sorority and so I
Kept in touch with them and I was like I really want to join and then when I got to college I wanted to my goal was to start at Blinn and transfer to um a m Texas A M however at that time the Deltas were what is the word they used they were
Like suspended and troubling yeah yeah I thought there’d be like a better word so there was suspended and I was like oh that’s such a disappointment and then I ended up transferring to uh University of Houston instead of uh a m so then it was like I didn’t have the opportunity
But yeah that was one of my biggest questions because I did hear that even though you’re not in college you could still join absolutely I mean as long as you have completed your four-year you know um post I was gonna say Graduate Studies but um educational studies Advanced Studies
If you will you become eligible and even if you decide to go on into a master’s program or something like that we are very much open and wanting to recruit and invite our educated sisters who are interested in furthering the cause and being a part of The Sisterhood and being
Another one of uh someone that was standing in the gap for another young lady or young A Younger You Know princess who’s coming up in the rings that need guidance and so we’re always open and welcome to that and I will definitely get with you offline about
That and so will miss you then what do you think Miss Julian um what do I think yeah what comments or responses or maybe support or words of affirmation would you give to someone like taishe well um you have to first understand that I come from a Greek household
Um and so both my parents were Greek um and all of my brothers and I are great um and I think Generations before but it was more about it wasn’t about being Greek it was about standing for whatever the organization stood for so the men in my family as you
Know Deltas tend to be associated with cues but the men in my family were all Alpha men so when I pledged and I went over my first sweater had a house on it and the house had dstfia and people would say why do you have that on your sweater and I said
Well that’s what my house is so I’m gonna honor that so because not for the sake of Black Elite for the sake of opportunity for the sake of community for the sake of building a better place is where my background comes as it relates to Greek them um
I’ve had to fight so much in my life against what people deemed elitism because of the opportunities that I was exposed to and I’m just one of those that’s like you’re exposed to with long format you’re not supposed to give it back you’re supposed to do something with it
And you know but because I spent a great part of time trying to help people understand that I am Delta because I have a Delta heart I live with the mindset of serving others of teaching others of giving to others so you know um I pledged undergrad chapter so I this
Will be my 50th year since I was made with Delta um and you know whether I’m Financial not for non-financial whether I come and go depending upon where I live I always live and represent what the fully with the Delta heart and the spirit of God so you know I’m just there um
Alumni chapters are everywhere Thai City so you know that’s the name of that game so even with me like graduating at another school I could still pledge anywhere else yeah I mean there’s alumni chapters that are not necessarily there are alumni City there are city-wide alumni chapters
And so they’re not affiliated with any school when I pledged I lived in Boston Massachusetts and I went to I pledged a city-wide chapter of five of the top universities in the Boston area and so the women that I pledged with there were 30 women on my line and there
Are nine ten or so still living and we do Zoom calls we chat we hit each other up we’ve come to town someplace we visit so that’s beautiful so taishe and those of you who are interested in joining any of our divine nine organizations whether
You want man or a woman you know looking to participate There’s Hope for you we are looking for you especially like uh glyn is saying if you have a heart for sisterhood you have a heart for scholarship you have a Heart for Service this is what these organizations are
About especially in this day and age where we are really fighting against racism sexism you know different adversities that our children are facing right now that we never never have to deal with we need you on the front line so so we as black Greek letter organizations join and and connect with
One another to not only support each other in these Endeavors and network with one another but we also are in the fight to help bridge the gap with poverty and just creating more opportunities but also empowerment and so you can definitely plug in and and
Experience that so but I do I want to ask if you can touch a little bit on pledging because I hear taishe talk about yeah I want to pledge I want to pledge well pledging technically is against the law and that’s probably the reason why Deltas were suspended on your
Campus when you were actually coming through but you know I had the opportunity to pledge it as an underground we don’t use the terms but on the graduate level you know there’s some different requirements inside so it’s um you will have an experience it just won’t be a school
Days type of experience with most people would Envision yeah absolutely because I kind of went through like what you were saying tashay I kind of went through multiple lines because as a child I actually went through a cotillion through AKA so the green and pink the pink and green you
Know I went through a cotillion so people thought I was going to pledge you know AKA um but through a scholarship program with them so they helped me go through college my family actually are Delta and cues so definitely felt the family I wanted to be a Delta that’s where my
Heart was that’s where my family was the cues and Deltas so when I went to ECU the same thing happened with me Deltas were suspended off the yard so I could not they were suspended for five years so that meant yeah the entire time I was going to be in college I
Would never get the opportunity you know to do Delta I wanted the experience as an undergrad because I knew as a graduate that experience would be different I wouldn’t experience crossing the line I wouldn’t experience The Sisterhood of going through it together um because I wouldn’t experience living
In the house with my sisters and having the mothers and all those things I wanted that experience because I’ve heard all about it throughout my life right so who was the next best thing on the yard right and then like with Glynn she had a shirt she’s used to the Deltas
And the cues being on her shirt but no she didn’t have doctors and Alphas deltas and apples was on her shirt right but she was used to her family having deltas and cues it was different we had the rose and the kappas and usually was the akas and the camera you know
You never know depends on what your house is so your house could be divided or different just depends on who’s on what the partner who you’re paired with and a lot of people didn’t understand that so we had the kappas and the rose together and the experience was
Wonderful so you could pair with who you feel like is on the yard you connect with the most that experience once you graduate we you know the step teams you know um go through the different lines on the on the party side um you know everybody want to go to the
Parties right you know when undergrad is the parties and stories you know so that was the best thing about being an undergraduate crossing over wearing you know the whole six weeks of because like Dr Camille we don’t call it pledging you know you can’t do that
Um probate you could use that word it’s just certain things you could not use on campus um we had to wear all black you know you get waking up at night you know things that you go through um but you had your sisters there you know when your sisters couldn’t wake up
You had you know it’s just a lot to this game that Sisterhood trust each other no this is who you’re going through it with wearing masks because nobody knew that you were on the line right nobody could know until the scratches is over right you know nobody’s like what’s going on with you
Your family your friends like why are you sneaking off doing this why we can’t see you until that mass comes off at the end right and it’s like what so you stepping you watching you marching you’re doing your thing so of course that’s the exciting part but you still
Have that opportunity as a graduate so like Dr Camille said if you have those credits you’ve graduated there’s a chapter in every city and it’s usually multiple chapters of China multiple chapters in the city you just have to find the one that you connect with the
Most just go in find out what their service is and a lot of times it depends on what that Community is doing certain things you would connect with within the community what are they doing if they have an outreach program um if there’s certain service agreements they’re doing if it’s certain program I
Mean it’s just so many things that different chapters are doing within the community that you may connect with like certain Drive um into certain um I know like our communities do like the Foster programs where you connect you know Big Brother Big Sisters you know different things so certain things you connect with
Definitely find the one in your community that connects with you um meet with some of the the sisters that are there because there might be certain ones that you connect with there and then see do your research and then sign up you gotta pay dues definitely is expensive right definitely unless
It was involved so you know annual dues um every year once you become a lifetime member you know hey you know like I’m pretty sure you’re good I wish you know so there are things that you definitely can do even though you don’t get that experience and yeah you know my
Aunts and uncles they did ride my tail on it like yeah you could have waited to become a graduate and did it but me I wanted that experience I went with the next best thing so you do what’s best for you but it’s not over you still can
Do it most definitely and just to give our audience a heads up on the list of the divine nine of course we’ve got Delta Sigma Theta sorority Incorporated yes we have Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority Incorporated we have Sigma gamma rho so we’re already Incorporated we also have
Who else do we have Zeta five beta Beta Phi Beta um sorority Incorporated and you have a Q sci-fi you know make a Sci-Fi fraternity Incorporated we have Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated with what are the other ones Napa Alpha Psi I should know that’s my
Ex-husband so my London is a legacy for Kappa Alpha Psi that they also have red and crimson and cream colors as well and we have the Iota yes Iota Iota Phi Theta Fraternity Incorporated and what we’re missing um the sigmas the voice signals yes yes exactly uh Phi Beta Sigma Phi Beta Sigma
Fraternity Incorporated so five fraternities for sororities encompasses the Divine It’s usually the sigma gamma rows are our brothers are using the Phi Beta sigmas because they’re blue but you know the yard definitely some um connections there so yeah so one of the things that um
That really struck a chord with me and I will say and you guys can ladies can let me know if you agree but for me the experience helped me to overcome a lot of adversity in my life from those experiences I feel as though it prepared
Me for real life it prepared me for you know the bosses that didn’t receive me or ostracized me or maybe tried to make my job a bit harder it prepared me for you know even women black women in general sometimes too like on the campus who were not as friendly or dealing with
Many different types of personalities and how to overcome you know conflicts it prepared me for so many things what were some of the things that you feel was a big benefit to either review coming through the organization oh that’s a good one I think leadership definitely was a good
One especially when it comes to depending on what type of business or jobs just knowing people in your upline that went through just having those references of people that would help you in leadership no matter where you were you had someone that you can call on either if it was interviews knowing
Someone because you know in this day and age it’s not about what you know for sure but that’s always been the case yes this is really always been the case you know I I think that for me especially because I pledge the Citywide chapter and I went as did I and
I went to um a predominantly white undergraduate women’s college so for me well pledging was never a non-option I mean it wasn’t like I had to I just never thought that I would never not do it so it was as soon as I was eligible age I did but
For me a big part of it was having the opportunity I mean like I said I went to a white predominantly white college so my to have an opportunity to work for the period of the Pledge initiation time where like-minded women like-minded black women and strong you know intelligent um leader type women
Help all of us learn because in a lot of ways buy from your big sisters you had the opportunity to be guided into even you even though you didn’t know that’s what it was at the time you were dealing with Big Sisters if you will teaching you forcing you to work together
In spite of the fact that you all all come with the same package you know what I mean and that’s something when you’re working with different personalities you know um figuring out how you work together I think it’s probably one of the greatest things you get out of
Being with the sorority is is seeing the power of women working together being able to make change Back on what you just said miss Lynn um because I went to a predominantly white school as well and compared to a HBCU being that you had that fraternity sorority that Sisterhood Brotherhood on that type of Campus being together with that Sisterhood Sisterhood and Brotherhood as us together because we were already
Kind of segregated in a way people didn’t understand you didn’t have a place people always looking at you differently that brought you together you had a place you knew that you had like-minded people you knew even though at a hvcu that’s always there it’s someone there but it’s also going to be
Some adversity because there’s so many people that look like it right so it’s like you feel like oh I have a place it’s okay we’re good we’re good but it’s still going to be people that’s going to have some jealousies it’s always something right because it’s nothing different everything is always
But there you already kind of like I don’t know I don’t know so now you feel a little safe I have a place that I always know I can go to so when I can talk to so you have a safe haven you know I like that you mentioned that
Because that was the reasons why these organizations were were even thought of to begin with way back in you know 1913 1908 1911 and because of the need for uh African Americans who were coming through these college institutions to have some type of community a network someplace where they could belong and
Have psychological safety because everywhere else we were excluded yes everywhere else we were not allowed to really participate in the regular Greek letter organizations which were just really established for the time that they were in college so the difference between us and them we established our organizations to last a lifetime and
That’s what Miss gilin is referring to when she says you know out of all of her line sisters they were all able to connect with each other and be a support to one another and that’s beautiful especially I recognize that even in my own chapter of Epsilon new Citywide
Chapter in the Bay Area you know some of our uh Lines by profite line uh there was nine of them on their line they’ve been together since the Inception of them Crossing and they’ve experienced life with one another divorces with one another deaths breathing birthdays um um having babies you know like
Celebrations of music life every aspect of life The Sisterhood has been there and even through death you are recognized you are honored and you are celebrated no matter what once again once once a once a member always so whether undergraduate or graduate chapter you become
Um what you are and that is who you are and so the best of you and that Legacy gets passed on so even for you taishe you have a son right yes yes so even for your son your son will have the opportunity because you will expose him
To the black Greek letter organization so that he can be aware hey when you get to College you will also have a safe space for you to plug into whatever resonates with you best and so it’s just a beautiful experience for us to be able
To have by us that was created by us and it’s it’s relevant and we’re talking about leaders real leaders that are in our organizations for example um Angela Bassett she’s a Delta and she’s just been you know recognized for her work in wakanda um what are some of the famous
Sororities that uh famous women that you might have in your organization Fantasia just crossed and she’s right here today in North Carolina women’s empowerment tonight that I should be at right now I love it women all over the place in politics in Corporate America um all across the board that’s another
Beautiful act the vice president of our country yes yes right the vice president you know is an AKA and I mean and presidents of large institutions even black Greek letter organizations um uh uh hbcus they’re the presidents of hbcus so I mean it’s it’s it’s it positions you talk about leadership
It prepares you for leadership but it also positions you to be a leader in the world and Steve Harvey is a proud yes they are they’re so rambunctious y’all the cue they’re so like so alive extended family members that yeah definitely you know my my neighbors down from when
I grew up in junior high school and high school are dogs you know and they’re like even at our ages they’re still yeah I want to add that threats and sororities are not for everybody especially if especially when you may look at it from a different perspective you know that’s
Where I I I I really like to look at it and represent for people that it’s not about a class of people it’s about a mindset of people and you know it’s really about people coming together originally at a time when you had to make a way
You had to make your way to begin you know to straighten the path a little bit we all love the Rivalry that we have you know but we all love one another in spite of the little rivalry you know something just friendly competition is everyone considered a rivalry like if
You’re a Delta and you see a sgro that’s considered rivalry or are some of y’all like yeah let me say type 2 the word is not rivalry less less less clear that up yes it’s not a rivalry it’s it’s yeah it’s it’s a it’s a dig you
Know it’s competition rather when we on the step competition that’s when it’s rivalry competition competition okay but you know there are things like in my church my church is filled with aka’s and I was like some doses up in here and I looked up and then I started but the akas were
Kind of Unified and there were a couple of people that you know we’re we’re whatever their levels are you know long-term lifetime members you know we would have pink and green napkins and some Affair and we go what what we got the pink and green okay all
Right right so who and I realized that there were so many Delta women in my church so we kind of formed our own little group so at my church we have the first church ladies of DST so we plan things together or when we recognize something at church
Even at this point we’ll buy ads based on who’s a member of the AKA or who’s a member of delta or who’s a member of you know a Friday so we push each other to push each other to do more for whatever we do in service right and we will come together though
Oh yes definitely come together right yeah right multiple questions as I said earlier um have you ladies experienced going to different campuses and were there any similarities and differences that you’ve seen with the other fraternities and sororities on different campuses I mean well I will say I think my mind
Is still stuck on the Rivalry thing um only because only because we kind of started you know Delta and AKA started off as one organization prior to us branching off and it was really just about a a difference in focus a difference in focus in terms of you know one wanted to
Be more into a socialization Social Club whereas Deltas wanted to be more about um getting one of the right to vote the work and so I think that when you go to other campuses it it really depends on the individuals who’s a part of the the
Group at the time like glyn is saying you know it’s the mindset what type of mindset are you having because that is going to Encompass the spirit it’s going to encapsulate the spirit of the organization so you want to recruit members who is going to have the vision
And the spirit of the original Founders who’s there to do the work because some people will join these organizations taishe for the wrong reasons let’s just you know as we say address the elephant in the room no pun intended but anyway um that’s our unofficial mascot so
That’s why we kind of like elephants as Deltas but uh some people will join these organizations just to be seen with the letters and not really about the work and so once they graduate then they don’t oh oh okay but some people will definitely join because of what they think
The organization is about it’s about the appearance of being a part of the organization um again like the party aspects oh I want to party I want to be a part of that what it looks like like you can go to some campuses and there we know about colorism
So there are some campuses where you will see that kind of Separation where like and it’s still some that I see now like the aka’s you might see colorism where you see it’s more of the light skin or the akas and then some of the
Zetas are more of the dark skin and then you have the kappa’s you know you might see the colorism aspect but a lot of times you go to other campuses and they’re all mixture yeah it’s nothing so sometimes so it just depends so sometimes you might see those type of
Differences but other campuses no it’s nothing it’s all together what do you think Julian um it’s been so long since I’ve been from campus to campus what I always recognize is that whatever sorority you’re in no matter where you are you can show up I mean I find myself I have my tags
I have a license plate holder that reflects that I’m a Delta so you know I find the fact that there’s camaraderie if you drive down the street and pass somebody and they’re flat they’re wearing that your sign you know you stop you greet one another
Um no we could be out and come from different places to you know to be for example at a March a women’s March and then all of a sudden you see a sea of red and white or a sea of blue and gold or a sea of you know and when it’s the
Cream whatever right when it came to voting when there was one sister who part members from every single group together so they could do a particular step to encourage people to vote so you know the fact that we can just we can come and go I mean we can organize yes
You know we throw up we throw out a whistle throw out something and everybody knows we’re in the house and a lot of time it just has to do with because every year remember when you’re on a campus it depends on who they vote in as that President so you really have
To think about again who’s that leader and how they’re leading the group so yeah mindset because if that leader is not looking at it as yeah we’re going to look at who we who are we letting in because again you can put in that application to be a part of that group
But who are they letting in are they looking at oh I just one of my friends I wanted to be a part of that or they letting in actual leaders people who really are there for service then that becomes a problem so that’s when you see the differences on
Campuses a lot I didn’t think about it like that that’s why I said you really have to vet and see I mean The Graduate where you want to be yeah we’re still people still human beings and they’re still that factor within all of us yeah you know yeah and hopefully being a part
Of your sorority or fraternity and working with good leadership and holding on to the founding principles yes allow you to continue to just it is who you are at heart it really is who you after a while it becomes who you are at Heart It has nothing to do with what chapter you
Belong to what dues you pay what dues you don’t pay what you know how much you do it’s really about a Delta heart you know um an an AKA heart um a say to heart it’s your spirit it’s you know sometimes you might not be able to be
Financial but you can find Chapters you can find people and hook up and work together and do stuff together so there’s one thing about them there’s not a country you can go to I don’t think at this point where you won’t find some chapter of that’s true
I was just going to mention that to you Lynn yeah I’m happy you said that Sora because um the beauty of being a member is you can plug in anywhere um you can go to Africa and plug into a chapter there even you just participate in their chapter meetings as a guest
Um any kind of programs that’s a part of our programming uh thrusts you can plug in and support you don’t have to be Financial you can always volunteer you don’t even have to be a member to volunteer I mean a lot of how we all got started was volunteering with the with
The ladies on the campus to see what’s their personality what’s the energy are we meshing do I see myself as being a part of this group are they open to receiving my ideas in my contributions and so you’re right it is about the heart and the spirit and the intention
Set behind being a part of these organizations right I love that I wish I would have known that I didn’t know you could just like go uh volunteer I used to get nervous because I felt like there were certain things that people were just supposed to know about fraternities
And sororities and like I felt like I would be the one that for example would walk in between a line or something do something crazy you know so I used to always get nervous like should I even walk up to somebody and ask them for information or am I gonna go wrong for
That no no there was a line leave them alone but you know beyond that you know that would be the first place is find Deltas where you are if that’s what you’re interested in find find Deltas where you are and then you will find what chapters they’re affiliated with or what chapters they
Know to direct you to because even the chapters may have take on a different personality or you may decide unlike even though my line my line as a city-wide chapter in undergrad had 30 people on it um but a lot of the grad chapters have I’m just not you know the capacity I
Belong to their food and so especially on the south I’m coming from California so this is a little bit different my line was eight so the South was always larger yeah well my line was sturdy but that’s because we were Citywide coming from like eight or ten schools but most undergraduate chapters
They may have 30 to 40 people on a line they maybe have a hundred members in the chapter or when you go to The Graduate chapters they could have 500 600. members you know I mean once you pledge you’re always adulter so you can be anywhere and find them yeah
Because he’s like yeah I got a lot okay yeah I do I do need to use Google because it’s been a while since well it’s been a four or five years since I graduated so a lot I did all of my research and in college so now I’m like oh I don’t
Remember anything now but yeah I definitely want to get into that um but last last one I guess I’ll just keep it short and simple since we’re running out of time you ladies know all of this the uh signals and sounds for each fraternity and sorority yes absolutely just because of the party
Life and nightlife um for me strolling was a real big outlet for me a way for me to have fun and have pride as well as I love dancing and I really wasn’t I’m a club type of person I really just would go to the parties with my sorority sisters and
We’ll just stroll all night so that’s the line that you would see those settings it becomes a friendly um as as Julian would say a little rivalry a little competition but really just as having pride in our organizations and wearing letters and having fun and so you get to hear
Everyone because we’re all right behind each other going around and around and around me so there’s chance there’s the signals there’s the calls there’s all these things that you just naturally um for me and from my perspective and my experience I learned right away so absolutely and we don’t know each other’s
Everything the only things that we know are the things that they make public right oh so y’all have like the the ones that like yeah like we have our secret handshakes you know you have your handshake and things like that so like um distress signals yeah each other stuff like
But like like Dr Camille you go to the party you know who’s coming in because they don’t have that call so you’re gonna let you know before and about to do they stroll so you move out the way everybody screams out part like the random you would do the respect thing
You spread out the way so they can do their thing so you know what’s about to happen so that’s the respect Factor that you don’t know about absolutely thank you so if you never do somebody else’s call that’s disrespectful and things like oh okay gotcha or there’s you know you know a
Non-member we would say um you know an individual a non-member we wouldn’t never we wouldn’t like to see any non-members do our yeah or where even our our colors or letters to our events things of that nature it’s like if you’re coming to volunteer you want to maybe just wear black no no
Colors at all um think you know think that because we’d be picking up on it and we’re keeping tabs and we’re like let me see how she behaves let me let me see yeah stuff I need to know right if you do get a chance then that might be stuff that
Will give you a hard time for down the line just just cause um but outside of that it’s a beautiful experience again it’s just to help you understand how to have teamwork how to overcome adversity and how to stay focused on your goal from your your own personal achievements as well as you
Know the conscious black collectives achievements as well so oh my God he said I’m Petty I’ll do it I’m always chiming in talking again smack underneath I feel like I would do it but it would definitely be on accident yeah and then we also have our
Own like they have you know she said you know elephant in the room we have our you know our symbols and mascots you know have different names for those so you’ll catch those things too so you can kind of walk in a person’s house and kind of say oh you
Must be in Delta yeah yeah I’ve done that a few times when I was growing up when when I was in junior high school high school my neighbor our very best friend you know our neighbor my mom was a Delta Andrew was a Delta but she had a pinky
Green house and that confused me things when we first met I would go over and I and I would start talking and I’m like Andrea you must be and she go girl no I am enough and I was forever stomped by him yeah or pink and green house you know
Yeah my best friend is a pink and green she’s an AKA so even though there is like the friendly competition the friendly rivalries um at the end of the day we’re all sisters and you know we would draw to each other’s personalities and it doesn’t matter what letters you are so
Um I’m always very grateful for The Sisterhood and the camaraderie that we have amongst all of us when it’s time to handle business baby we will organize ourselves to yeah we will fill those rooms we’ll raise that money we will save our kids so yeah I love that I love that yeah
We’ll definitely marry each other Definitely Greeks will marry uh other black Greeks because they understand you know there’s just that level of understanding and we’re all just connected in together so it happens yeah but um but not all the time not 100 of the time it’s not a requirement so let
Me just also put that out there but yeah this has been a very engaging discussion I’m so very happy and grateful to have had you missed silver or gland Grace is with your presence thank you so much for all the excellent questions um it was very thought-provoking and I
